Todd, Blair, Marcie, Michael and Starr got ready for Tommy's initial custody
hearing. Marcie and Michael hoped Rex had some dirt portraying Todd as a bad parent. The McBain's attorney showed up and reviewed what Rex had come up
with to hurt Todd. Ms. Brown thought Rex's discovery would "cut Todd off
at the knees." Marcie feared that attacking Todd would also impact on Todd's relationship with Starr and Jack.
Michael asked John to baby-sit Tommy during the court hearing. Outside of the courtroom, Starr approached Marcie and said she was so sorry about all this. The DNA test proved that Todd was Tommy's biological father. Todd was ready to take his son, but not so fast. Marcie's lawyer said she had enough evidence to prove that Todd was an unfit parent, "especially since Mr. Manning has already tried to kill the child." Rex left a message for Adriana saying he felt bad about what was about to happen.
Todd asked his daughter if she thought Tommy should be with him or the
McBains. Starr replied that she was very fond of Tommy and Mrs. McBain, adding
that she felt bad that Mrs. McBain would have to lose her son. However, she concluded that Tommy was Todd's son, not Mrs. McBain's. Todd smiled at his
daughter and gave her a warm hug.
Talia admitted to Bo it was rough being back in New York for 9/11. She
recounted her memories of that day in 2001. Bo shared some of his
post-Vietnam feelings with Talia. She wondered if she had taken more
risks, she might have saved more people. "Maybe one more," she said wistfully. Bo tried to assure her that she was a driven, successful, caring cop.
Natalie was horrified when she woke up next to Jared Banks. Jared teased, "I
got the whole thing on video." Natalie wouldn't accept the fact that they
may have had sex. Jared assured her that they had not, and offered to get her some aspirin for her hangover. Natalie dropped in on Jessica and told her sister about her evening activities. She explained that she had seen John and Marty kissing. "I can't stand her," she said of Marty. Natalie added she had spent the night with Jared Banks. Uh-oh, thought Jessica as her eyes widened. Natalie said that though she had very little clothes on when she woke up, he promised her that they had not had sex. Jessica headed to Jared's and promptly hit him when he opened the door.
Langston and Markko argued about the Starr/Marcie conflict regarding
Tommy. Markko had brought her to the gymnasium so they could kiss, but Cole
broke it up. The three kids hoped that Mrs. McBain would be able to
keep Tommy.
Nash told Jessica he thought Jared was the kind of person he'd like to be in
business with. Jessica paled at the thought, and tried as subtly as she
could to talk Nash out of it. Nash wondered why she was attacking Jared.
Jessica couldn't believe Nash was defending him.
In the steam room, Cristian encouraged Antonio to look ahead to better times. It was clear that Antonio was still very angry at Nash. As timing would have it, Nash showed up and told Antonio that he thought things would work out with Jared as his business partner. Nash hoped that one day he and Antonio could be civil. A still-bitter Antonio intoned, "Hello and goodbye, Nash," and Nash exited the steam room.
Tuesday
John did some babysitting and had a hard time feeding Tommy. Marty dropped
by and was quite amused by "Uncle" John sporting a poncho. She brought John a book of how to make paper airplanes and a ream of paper. Marty got all flustered and tried to leave, but John gave her a
heartfelt thank you. They went on to make some paper airplanes. John and
Marty talked about parenting. "You'd make a good father," she assured him.
Marty tried to explain their kiss the night before. "I crossed a boundary," she said, but then John kissed her to keep her from talking.
Jessica barged into Jared's motel room and demanded that he stay away from
Natalie. Jared agreed but wanted something from Jessica in return — a job at Buchanan Enterprises. "I'm offering you a chance for true peace of mind," he reasoned, adding that she might lose her husband and daughter if she didn't get him a job at BE. Later, a confident Jared began ordering office furniture.
Nash tended to a hung-over Natalie, who apparently reeked of alcohol. He
wondered where Jessica was. Nash decided it was "time to score some points
with the sister-in-law who hates me." Natalie said that if Jessica was
happy thanks to Nash, then she was happy. Nash kept pushing to find out why
Natalie had gotten drunk. Natalie admitted she had seen Marty and John kiss, and that triggered her drinking binge. She added that though she cared
for John, she didn't care for what had happened to their relationship. Nash
said he had to watch Jessica and Antonio together a lot. Jessica returned to
find Nash and Natalie bonding. Natalie headed home and Nash continued to ask
his wife why she had gone to work. Jessica lied and said she was making sure the newspaper was covering the custody trial fairly.
The McBain's attorney began to list all the horrible things Todd had done to
Tommy's mother, Margaret. "Ruling in his favor is like giving that baby a
death sentence," the lawyer surmised. Todd was enraged at the accusations that he had hurt Tommy. The attorney read a report that Todd had tried to strangle Margaret when she was pregnant with Tommy. Todd began to look very serious. The attorney added that Todd had put his unborn child at risk at least three times. What, she wondered, would happen if Todd became enraged today and happened to be alone with little Tommy?
Blair exploded when the attorney requested psychiatric examinations for "Mr. Manning's other two children, Starr and Jack." Marcie wondered if they should back off, but the lawyer thought this was the only way they could keep
custody. Starr asked if she could take the stand to show the courtroom what
a good father Todd was. Todd wasn't keen on the idea, saying he wanted Starr to
go home. "I don't want her to hear this garbage" he said to Blair, who
offered to take Starr home. Starr told Michael and Marcie, "My dad is not
the person you say he is." Marcie explained that they where just doing what they had to "for our son." Todd's lawyer wished his client had leveled with him about trying to kill Margaret. "They are trying to paint Margaret as a
normal pregnant person," Todd explained. Todd's attorney admitted that
Michael and Marcie had a slight edge. The judge told the courtroom that
Todd's past behavior was horrific. The judge then gave the floor to Todd.
Rex and Adriana told Dorian and Roxy that they were moving in together.
"Beats being pregnant, right?" Rex quipped. The four of them enjoyed an
evening over beers at Rodi's. (Note: Dorian is not a frequent patron of that establishment.) Blair and Starr showed up and immediately made fun of Dorian being there. They also picked on Dorian's Roy-inspired hairstyle. However, the levity ended when Blair realized that Rex was behind Marcie's lawyer getting all that dirt on Todd. Dorian held a Cramer family meeting, where she called out Adriana's
boyfriend. Blair told Adriana she had to make a choice — either you
are with us or with Rex. "If you are with Rex, I am not going to have
anything to do with you," Blair announced to her stunned cousin.
Wednesday
Marty and John kissed again. John worried that he hadn't heard from Michael yet. Marty was going to head home but John asked her to stay. Tommy started to cry and John didn't seem to know anything about changing diapers. Much to John's relief, Marty offered to help. They agreed that Tommy was a sweet little boy. Marty showed her ineptitude at throwing paper planes and they almost kissed again, but Michael and Marcie returned. Marty left and Michael told his brother, "It looks pretty good that we may be able to keep Tommy."
Bo visited Lindsay behind bars and brought her son Will along to surprise
her. Lindsay teared up but was very glad to see him. Bo got a kick out of
Matthew's "Free Lindsay" T-shirt. Bo explained that he had to put his
feelings aside when it came to arresting Lindsay. She begged Will to go home, meet a nice girl and have lots of children. Lindsay tried to convince
her son that her life was over. Will reminded Lindsay that she still had one
child and was sure that Lindsay would beat these charges. Lindsay pleaded
with Will to leave but he refused. Bo came by and walked Will out. Lindsay
was thrilled to see her next visitor: RJ. He, too, had words of encouragement, but Lindsay seemed resigned to her fate — a life behind bars.
Rex and Roxy watched the Cramer family meeting from the bar. "They are
trying to turn Adriana against you," Roxy hinted. Roxy got weepy when she
told Rex how sorry she was that she had been such a bad mother. Rex assured his mother she had been fine.
Earlier at the courthouse, Todd asked to be sworn in (even though it wasn't actually necessary) before he made any testimony about what had happened between he and Margaret. Todd explained that all his attacks on Margaret had been in self-defense. He added that Margaret's death was no surprise. "After everything that crazy b---- did to me, she deserved it." Todd recounted to the hushed courtroom that Margaret had drugged and raped him and that, yes, he almost killed her, but because she was carrying his child, he didn't murder her after all. Judy went after Todd. "You wanted [the baby] dead as much as you wanted his mother dead, didn't
you?" she asked. "Yes, maybe I did," Todd admitted to a shocked audience. Judy brought up the fact that Todd lead a gang rape in college. The judge
warned Judy she was going too far. "My clients [the McBains] have been the epitome of good, upstanding citizens," she reminded the court. Judy then rattled off a list of Todd's most recent crimes. A frustrated Todd accused the McBains of stealing his son. He
got snippy with their attorney and knocked over a few chairs. Blair and
Starr returned to the courtroom and reassured Todd that he had a good heart
and was a good father.
Adriana wasn't that interested in being a Cramer woman if that meant having
to choose between family and Rex. "What has the family done for me?" Adriana
retorted, as she began to list all the unpleasant things Dorian had done to her lately. Adriana thought Tommy should be with Michael and Marcie. Blair fumed. Starr said she was sorry for everyone involved. Dorian added that Tommy was not Blair's child and therefore, "you have no say in the matter whatsoever,"
she reminded her niece. Adriana told the group that she couldn't take the Cramer side in this. "Todd is a disaster," she stated, getting Blair and Starr all worked up. Blair reminded Adriana that if Rex did anything else against
Todd, "he'll have to answer to me." Blair and Starr left Rodi's. Adriana
almost slipped and said she had known about Tommy for a while, but she
covered. Dorian figured it all out — that both Adriana and Rex had known the truth. Dorian sat them down. "Blair and Todd must never know that you
knew about the McBain's baby. Blair will tell Todd and hell knows what you
are in for," Dorian warned them.
Nora was horrified to see that Matthew was wearing a "Free Lindsay" T-shirt.
RJ popped in and wanted to ask Nora a favor on behalf of Lindsay. Nora
wasn't that glad to hear that. "Don't do this to me, RJ," she said. RJ hoped
Nora would take it easy on Lindsay. "She's different now. She's not the same
selfish Lindsay," he explained. Nora didn't think that the fact that Lindsay
had lost her daughter made it okay that she murdered Spencer Truman. RJ
reminded Nora that "you still have your daughter." Will showed up and asked
Nora to please drop the charges against his mother.
Thursday
An upset Todd told Blair how the McBain's lawyer had dragged him over the
coals. "I don't think I can do this legally," he told his startled ex-wife.
Blair warned him against it. She urged him to show the court how he had
changed and called Jessica for a favor. "My niece — the one with the two
personalities," he laughed. Todd grew angry at the situation and asked Blair, "Whose side are you on?" Blair reminded him she was on his side, but told
him that Michael and Marcie couldn't have children on their own. She was
taken aback at Todd's suggestion that they just give him Tommy and they adopt
another one. Blair surmised that, "The biggest problem we have here is you." Todd remained frustrated. "I don't know how to beat this. How do I stay under control when I have to listen to what I did to Marty over and over?" he asked Blair with a pained look in his eyes. Todd left the courtroom, but managed to thank Blair before leaving. Soon afterward, Blair and Todd both remembered something. "Of course!" they said, independent of each other, and both rushed off.
Nora reminded Will that his mother had committed murder. Will asked Nora to
assign someone else to the case. "You have a long history with my mother,
all bad," Will noted. "I'm not out to get your mother," she assured Will.
Nora hugged him, saying it broke her heart to think of him alone if Lindsay
went to prison, but she had a job to do. They both wished Sam (Will's dad,
Nora's ex) was there. Nora got a call saying it was time for Lindsay to go
back to court and make her plea.
Michael returned home to relieve his babysitting brother. They
talked about the trial. Michael felt bad and hoped they hadn't ruined the
relationship Todd has with his other two children, Starr and Jack. Michael
added that he thought Lindsay, if she did it, committed Spencer's murder to
protect Tommy. John thought Nora was confident about getting a conviction. Michael worried what might happen if Marcie found out how long he had known the truth about Tommy's paternity. John didn't think the truth would come out.
Michael countered by worrying that as John made the connection between Rex and Michael, maybe other people would too. Nevertheless, he expressed his gratitude for all of John's help. After a hug, John headed home.
Marcie paid Lindsay a visit and did her best to cheer Lindsay up. The suspect wanted everyone to stop worrying about her, however. "I don't deserve to go free. I don't regret what I did or why I did it," Lindsay said to a startled Marcie. She asked Lindsay if she had known about Tommy's paternity for a long time, as Rex had. Lindsay's lawyer showed up and stopped the conversation.
Marcie promised that no matter what, she wouldn't let Todd take Tommy away
from her. "That's my good girl," Lindsay said, finally smiling. Marcie
headed home. Lindsay was surprised to see Blair outside her cell. "You help
Todd," she said smiling, "I'll help you." Meanwhile, Todd dropped in on the
McBains. "I want to know how much it's going to cost me if I want my kid back. I can give you enough money for 10 babies." Michael and Marcie couldn't believe what they were hearing.
Layla was clearly hurt that Adriana didn't tell her she was moving in with
Rex. Adriana promised she'd pay her part of the rent until she found a
replacement. Rex thought Vincent should move in with Layla. Vincent didn't
think Layla was ready for that. Layla wondered if Vincent thought she wasn't
worthy of moving in with. Vincent squirmed. Layla said she was serious about him moving in, and then they could take the next step by shopping for rings. "Are you playing me?" Vincent asked. Layla assured him that she was indeed kidding him and she wasn't ready for a live-in relationship. Sarah overheard their conversation and decided she should be Layla's new roommate. Cristian told Sarah that booking bands was no different than delivering drinks to customers.
Starr poured water on Brittany to get her off of Cole. Brittany made a dig
about Todd stealing "Mrs. McBain's kid away." Brittany brought up all the
bad things Todd had done. Markko encouraged Brittany to get a life, but
Brittany said she enjoyed making them crazy. Starr said there was nothing hurtful Brittany could say, as she'd dealt with people gossiping about her family since she was three. Brittany's parting words were, "No matter
which way this court case goes, you'll lose." Langston complimented Markko
on what he said. He kissed her goodbye. Starr admitted to Langston that
she was clearly torn about the Tommy situation. "If the McBains win this
case, I'll never see him again."
Friday
Paying them a little visit at their home, Todd threw money at Marcie and
Michael in an attempt to "buy back" baby Tommy. To Michael's surprise, Marcie seemed ready to negotiate a price. She was able to convince Todd to go up to a staggering $10 million, explaining to a dumbfounded Michael that they really needed the money because they were, in effect, broke, and that this would be the best thing for Tommy, saving their son "a lot of hurt down the line." Todd then went ahead and wrote out a check,
which Marcie promptly ripped in half while she smiled and informed him there was no deal. She and Michael then kicked Todd out of their home, letting him know in no uncertain terms that they could — and would — use his check against him in court.
Jessica met with Natalie at Buchanan Enterprises. After some chitchat
about their mother's spur-of-the-moment jaunt to Paris, they discussed the "Jared situation." Jessica surprised her sister by expressing an interest in hiring him to work at BE. Natalie remained adamant that she did not want Jared anywhere near the company and interrogated Jessica as to why she had
suddenly changed her mind about hiring him. Jessica claimed she just wanted
to keep Jared out of Nash's hair, but Natalie didn't buy it. Eventually,
Jessica admitted that Jared was blackmailing her and that if she didn't get him a job at BE, she would likely end up in jail. Meanwhile, Jared and
Nash talked business at Rodi's, with Jared going on and on about Asa's
impeccable business sense. He eventually went on his way, but left his cell phone at the bar. The bartender handed it over to Nash, who was dismayed to find
pictures of Jessica on it. Jared returned to the bar and was less than
thrilled to see that Nash had looked through his phone.
Sarah expressed interest in being Layla's roommate, now that Adriana had
moved in with Rex. Unconvinced, Layla asked Christian whether he thought
Sarah would make a good roommate, based on his experience living with her. He said she was neat and considerate as a roommate and rushed off, but not before
Sarah could thank him for painting her in a positive light. He told her that
she could repay him by drawing in a top-notch client. Sarah agreed. After much deliberation and a few threats, Layla gave Sarah the okay to move
in.
Blair vowed to help Lindsay beat the charges if she agreed to help Todd win
back his child. Lindsay was clearly disgusted by the offer, Todd not exactly
being Father of the Year. Blair said she could testify Lindsay killed
Spencer in self-defense and offer, at the very least, reasonable doubt
that Lindsay had killed him in cold blood. Lindsay brushed this off and said she didn't care what happened to her, her only concern was that Tommy stay with people who loved and cared for him. Blair accused Lindsay of being cruel and
wicked and then tried to appeal to Lindsay's maternal side but,
nevertheless, Lindsay stood firm in her belief that Tommy did not belong
with Todd. A disgruntled Blair left and met up with Todd at the bar, where
he told her about the incident with the check and asked her to help him win
Tommy back by marrying him. Again.
At the courthouse, Nora went over her closing argument for Lindsay's case,
but was interrupted by a visit from Will, who asked her to go easy on his
mom. Roxy staggered in and tried to sell a thoroughly uninterested Will a
"Free Lindsay" T-shirt. Meanwhile, Nora chastised R.J. for lying to Will
about Lindsay's ability to beat the charges against her. Soon, Lindsay was brought into the courtroom, where she found a room full of her supporters, all
wearing "Free Lindsay" T-shirts. She shocked all of them with her "Guilty" plea.
