Monday
A shot rang out on top of Llantano Mountain. Bo and the SWAT team arrested Brody. Shane tried to get to Brody. Gigi was horrified to see that Rex had been shot. Gigi started screaming for help for Rex. Bo rushed to Rex's side.
Bo screamed for the bus. "There's so much blood," Gigi cried. Bo lifted Rex up. "You are not going to die on my watch," Bo vowed. Bo, Gigi and Shane followed Rex into the ER. Gigi told Shane that Brody was where he was supposed to be — behind bars. Rex was in the ER as Shane kept nagging his mother about seeing Brody. "You don't care about my father at all. All you care about is Rex,"
Shane cried as he stormed off to the waiting room. Bo told Gigi that he knows that Rex is Shane's father. Michael came out of the ER. "He's really bad," Michael said to a devastated Gigi and worried Bo. Michael said he was worried about Rex's brain. Michael couldn't tell Gigi if Rex would pull through. Michael returned to the ER to prep Rex for surgery. Gigi said goodbye to Rex as they wheeled him into surgery. She looked for Shane and realized he had disappeared.
Dorian began screaming inside her prison cell. "I am Dr. Dorian Lord," she yelled. Addie came to visit her. Dorian begged her sister to help her before Ray takes Langston out of the country. Addie said that Blair was working very hard to make sure that didn't happen.
Brody was brought into an adjacent cell to Dorian's. He kept holding his head and reliving the past. Brody woke up and thought he saw the young Iraqi boy aiming a gun at him.
The guard told Dorian that Brody had shot Rex. "My daughter is married to him," Dorian said. She asked if the condition was serious. Addie offered to get more information. Dorian felt awful that she couldn't help Adriana or Langston because she was behind bars.
Cole walked into the Buchanan living room and saw the handshake between Clint and Ray. Clint was startled to see him. Cole asked Clint why he had brought Ray to town. Clint asked Cole if he missed his dad. Clint tried to explain it was about getting Buchanan Enterprises back into the family. He reminded Cole that his unborn child was Patrick's legacy. "We're not that different," Clint reasoned. Cole reminded Clint that Langston was his friend. "I'm going to tell Dr. Lord about you and Langston's uncle," Cole threatened. "Son, I don't think you want to do that," Clint replied, looking him right in the eye. Clint denied being involved with any dealings that would hurt Langston. "You've liked living here, haven't you?" Clint asked. "You have a wonderful future and maybe that future would involve the Buchanan family." Clint hinted that he rewards loyalty. "Is the kid gone?" Ray asked. He wanted to know if Cole was on to what they were doing. Clint reminded Ray that there was not anything anyone could do to stop him from taking Langston to Colombia.
A teary Langston told Markko and Starr that she couldn't believe her Uncle Ray was taking her to Colombia. Starr and Markko assured her that wouldn't happen. Starr thought it wasn't a coincidence that Ray just showed up in Langston's life. Markko said he would stay with Langston and the three of them would come up with a plan. "What we need is a miracle," Langston said.
Langston took photos of her friends. "We're not letting you go," Markko promised. Cole rang the door bell and Starr answered. Cole announced that Clint had brought Ray to Llanview to take Langston away from Dorian.
Michael paid Marcie a visit. She was delighted to see him. He was checking up on her after Brody knocked her out at Gigi's. Marcie invited him in. He asked what had happened with Brody. "I stupidly got in the middle of it (the problem between Brody and Gigi)," she explained. Michael looked at Marcie's injury and cleaned it up. Michael told her that Charlie thinks he still has a chance with Viki. Marcie subtly made parallels between her and Michael and Viki and Charlie. The couple began to talk around their relationship. Michael left Marcie smiling and with a little hope.
Tuesday
Cole shocked Langston, Starr and Markko with the news that Clint had brought Ray to Llanview specifically to get back at Dorian. Langston wondered why Clint let Cole tell them. They were surprised to learn that Clint attempted to blackmail Cole into keeping quiet. Cole suggested that Ray might not even be Langston's uncle. Langston couldn't believe that, but Markko and Starr agreed with Cole. "He could be working you," Markko said. "That judge could be paid off," Starr added. "I can't believe this," Langston said, shaking her head. She thanked Cole for the information but thought it was too late now that Ray was named her legal guardian. Langston didn't want to proceed without talking to Dorian first. The teens rushed to the police station and asked to see Bo or Dorian. The sergeant at the desk said Bo was busy and visiting hours were over.
Dorian begged for water — bottled water — in her cell. Jackie McNaughton paid Dorian a visit. "What can I do for you?" he asked. "You can get me out of here," she replied. Dorian explained the Ray Montez situation. She asked Jackie to protect Langston "from a criminal. I was hoping you could come up with a more permanent solution." "Once I cross that line, there's no going back," he warned. Dorian began to cry at the thought of what might happen to Langston in Colombia. Jackie asked Dorian to sleep on it. If she felt the same way tomorrow, she should contact Addie and she'd get in touch with him. Jackie left. Dorian breathed a small sigh of relief.
Gigi desperately searched the hospital halls for Shane, who had disappeared.
Bo assured her he couldn't go far. He offered to hunt for Shane, and suggested Gigi stay at the hospital. A doctor told Gigi that because she wasn't family, he couldn't give her any information on Rex's condition. Gigi said the rosary.
A locked-up Brody kept having conversations with the dead Iraqi boy. He apologized for shooting him. Shane made it to the police department and asked to see Brody. The media swarmed the sergeant's desk, so Shane made his way to the jail by himself. Brody kept blurring Shane and the Iraqi boy. "Why won't you leave me alone?" he yelled at Shane, thinking he was the Iraqi kid. "You are not my son. Go away!" Heartbroken, Shane took a step back from the bars. Bo stood behind him and comforted his emotional fall. Later, he called a much-relieved Gigi to report that he found Shane. Gigi didn't have any update on Rex's condition. "What did you do to my dad?" Shane asked Bo. "He's confused. He's really hurting," Bo explained. "Because he was in the war?" Shane asked. Bo nodded and assured Shane that Brody would be well taken care of. Bo brought Shane to Gigi. Gigi told her son that a drunken Brody had torn up the house and knocked Marcie out. She added that Brody hadn't left her any messages on her phone about a camping trip. Gigi looked Shane in the eyes. "Brody is not your father," she said.
Natalie watched Tess and Bree's bedtime moment. Jared entered the room when he heard Tess tell Bree to "say good night to Aunt Natalie" via the closed circuit camera. A surprised Tess covered, saying that they always say good night to the entire Buchanan family before Bree goes to bed. Tess laid the child down and Jared stood in the middle of the room, trying to make sense of his situation. Tess reminded him that while she'd lost the love of her life, "Natalie has blown you off." She began to plant anti-Natalie seeds in Jared's mind. She explained that Nat had trust issues and was messed up because she had Roxy for a mother. She continued to badmouth her sister but Jared told her to stop. "You are not going to trash her to me," he insisted. Tess apologized and insisted she hadn't meant it that way. She explained that she had only wished Natalie had "handled this whole thing with compassion." Jared apologized for having lost his temper. The two parted on good terms. Tess noted that she always feels lost after she puts Bree to bed. Jared and Tess (and Natalie) learned from the television news that Rex had been shot and was in the hospital.
Tess visited a hysterical Natalie, who begged to see her injured bro ASAP. "No," Tess said flatly. "I can't let you leave." Natalie started to cry when she heard Jared say that he heard from reporters that "they didn't think Rex was going to make it." Tess started to dance around, singing, "Rex might not make it,"
taunting poor Natalie. "You can't plan torture like this," she smiled.
Wednesday
Gigi told Shane that Rex was his father. Shane didn't take that news well — he refused to believe her. "Brody is my dad," Shane insisted as he began to have an asthma attack. Gigi tried to explain, admitting that she had lied to the boy for years. She told him the story of how she and Rex had been high school sweethearts, and noted that Rex didn't know she was pregnant when he left town. Shane wasn't interested in Gigi's explanation and banged around the locker doors. "DNA tests don't lie, but people do," Gigi noted calmly. "He would never lie to me," Shane said as he pleaded to be by Brody's side. Gigi begged him to accept the fact that Rex was his biological father. Shane announced he would never stop loving Brody. Gigi assured him that she didn't want to change his feelings toward Brody. "Rex tried to protect you. That's why he got shot," Gigi said. Shane attacked his mother, asking why Rex married Adriana after "you told him that you loved him." Gigi wept but quickly regained her composure.
As Rex hovered between life and death on the operating table, his family and friends waited anxiously in the waiting room. Jared told Bo he left several messages for Natalie. Jared sensed that something wasn't right and shared that concern with Charlie. A frantic Roxy fainted in Bo's arms when he told her Rex was a hero. "He jumped in front of the bullet," Bo said. Michael brought the family up to date on Rex's condition. "He's got a good fight in front of him," Michael said glumly. Bo and Roxy agreed that Rex was a tough little fighter. "Rex is the most loyal friend I've ever had, other than Marcie," Michael told Roxy as he turned and looked at his wife. Bo asked Charlie why he lied to Rex about being his dad. Bo shared that Rex had liked the idea of Charlie being his dad. "Rex is lucky having you in his corner," Charlie told Bo. Roxy lead a prayer circle.
Meanwhile, an unconscious Rex played the game SO YOU THINK YOU CAN BE SHANE MORASCO'S FATHER? in his mind. Rex wondered if he might already be dead, because the people on the game show — such as Colin and Jen — were long gone. Colin asked Rex if he was ready for his first challenge. Rex got it right by identifying Evelyn Evil as the comic book character Shane had created. The questions grew harder and Rex was booed by the audience. Rex was shocked when Jen showed up. He got agitated and almost walked out of the game. Rex lost some juice when he flubbed the question about who his father really was. His lifeline call was to Roxy, but she failed him. And that "was for the whole ball of wax," Colin said. Rex didn't think it mattered who his father was. Rex guessed that Bo Buchanan was his father. "Wrong Rex, dead wrong," Colin said as he announced that Rex had flatlined and Brody was Shane's father. In the real world, Rex flatlined in the operating room.
Natalie continued to beg Tess to let her out to see Rex, but it was no use. "I want you to suffer while Rex bleeds to death," Tess said cruelly. Natalie reminded her that Tess is all alone and "nothing you do to me will change that." Natalie implored her to think about the future. "It is so much fun to see you suffer," Tess cooed as she promised Nat she would never be able to say goodbye to Rex.
Thursday
From the airplane, a frustrated John called someone in Llanview about not being able to find Cris. John was delighted to run into his father's former partner, Peter. Peter asked John questions about the Manning secret woman case. "It's all speculation," John said. Still, Peter knew that John wouldn't drop the case. "You are John McBain. You're in it to win it," he noted. John then imagined Marty sitting next to him. He wondered if that was a sign of some sort.
Tess found Todd waiting for her in her bedroom. He wondered when Bree's real mother was coming back. Tess reminded Todd that Marty could remember the truth at any time. Todd countered that Nash married Jessica, not Tess. Todd predicted that Jessica would soon resurface. "She always does," he declared. Jared interrupted their conversation. Todd asked if Jared had seen Natalie. "No, have you?" Jared asked anxiously. Todd hadn't but did say he had just fired Jessica from her job at the newspaper. Jared wondered why Jessica hadn't asked about Rex. Tess fumbled and said she had meant to.
Marty woke up from a horrible nightmare in which she relieved her rape. She cried out for Todd, then Janet. No one came to her aid, so she tried to get out of bed with her cane. She managed to stand and started to walk. Marty walked downstairs and enjoyed the fresh air. She found Todd's laptop and typed in "Marty Saybrooke Llanview University Rape." She then pressed enter. She read about herself, Nora and was about to read about her rapists when Todd came home. "What are you doing?" he asked
Roxy wrapped up the prayer circle for Rex. Gigi told everyone that Shane knows that Rex is his father. Roxy gave the boy a hug. Bo pulled Shane over for a little conversation. He told Shane that he just received a rather life-changing bit of information. Shane didn't think Bo knew what he was going through. "I know a lot more than you do. And my son Matthew he knows exactly how you feel," Bo explained. Bo agreed when Shane said that Brody was a hero and he had medals. Bo pointed out that though Rex wasn't the medals type, he did throw himself on top of Shane and Gigi to save them. "That was really heroic," Bo said. He thought Rex would deserve a civilian medal. Bo asked Shane to give Rex a chance, "and then you would know" what kind of dad he'd be. "It's not like I want him to die," Shane said.
Doctors raced to save Rex's live. Michael begged him to fight on. He soon reported that Rex survived the surgery, but he was still in critical condition. "We could still lose him," Michael confided to the stunned group of family and friends. Gigi wept in Marcie's arms. Rex was brought to his room. Roxy went in to see him. Bo followed. Adriana stood by Rex's side when his eyes flickered open.
Meanwhile, Rex's mind continued to play SO YOU THINK YOU CAN BE SHANE MORASCO'S FATHER. "What do you mean I flatlined?" Rex asked Colin, the show's host. Rex balked when Colin announced he'd lost the competition.
Rex clarified that he knew Bo wasn't his father but he wanted Bo to be his father. "He tries hard. He's willing to admit his mistakes," Rex explained. Rex vowed to be a good father for Shane. He said that directly to Shane, who stood next to Brody during the game show. Rex made it to the show's lightening round and took one last question. Colin asked what Rex would be willing to give up for his son. Would he give up Gigi, who then magically appeared in the studio audience? Rex refused to choose. The game ended and Colin left. Rex told the empty game room that he couldn't choose. He frantically tried to wake himself up and hoped that Gigi would be there when he did.
Friday
Adriana sat by Rex's hospital bed and opened her heart to him. "I still love you," she said. "I'd die if I ever lost you." Rex tried to talk. Gigi blamed Adriana for Rex being in the ICU. (Adriana, after all, was behind Brody's arrival in Llanview.) Adriana came out of Rex's room with news that he had woken up. Gigi wanted to go in and see him, but Adriana forbade it. "The doctor needs to see him first," Adriana said. For her part, Adriana blamed Gigi for Rex's condition. Bo intervened and explained that Gigi had nothing to do with Rex's shooting. Adriana made it clear to the doctor that Gigi was not to be anywhere near Rex's room. The doctor said okay. Roxy went in to see her son. "You can't keep us apart forever," Gigi said. "Wanna bet?" Adriana replied. Gigi refused to leave and dared Adriana to call security. Bo suggested to Gigi that she leave for a while. "You are weak and you are petty, and that's why Rex left you," Gigi hissed to her rival. Roxy said that Rex was trying to talk. Adriana was sure he was asking for his wife. Gigi left the floor but vowed to Rex that she'd be back.
Todd caught Marty online and reading about her rapists. She saw a photo of Todd (but it was Roger Howarth's face). "What would you like me to explain?"
he said, relieved that he didn't see his own face on the computer screen. Todd explained that though there were four men arrested, only three were convicted. (Todd flashed back to when he returned to Llanview with a new face.) Marty asked for more details about the night she was raped. "I can't believe I'm looking at their faces. I want to know everything about them...and their names," she said. Todd gently reminded her that she wanted to look forward in her future life.
Marty thought about it and turned off the computer.
Nora came home to find Dallas in Clint's bathroom. Hmmm. Clint asked Nora if she was mad. "Finding her on my couch in your bathrobe, me mad?" Nora snarled. Nora pointed out that there were many other places Dallas could be staying in Llanview. She asked for the 411 on the Langston situation and flipped when she learned that Cole was involved. Dorian charged into Nora's living room, eager to confront Clint.
Earlier, the teens told Dorian that Clint brought Ray to town to destroy her.
"Doesn't he care about my life?" Langston asked. Dorian thanked Cole for coming forward with the information about Clint and Mr. Montez. Dorian's lawyer rushed in to the courtroom. The judge asked the handcuffed Dorian why he should let her go free. A humble Dorian said she was only protecting her daughter. The judge let her go. Langston saw that Ray was in the courtroom. Dorian asked Ray if it was okay if Langston went off to school. Dorian made it clear that she knew "who put you up to this." Ray called Clint and gave him the heads up.
Vanessa, who entertained Cris in a candle-filled room, refused to let him call Antonio. Cris stormed out of her house, but she reminded him that he owes her for getting him out of jail. She asked him to bring her to Llanview, "where the three of us can be safe." "What three?" he asked. Vanessa called a young woman named Lola into the room.
Sarah showed up at the station and asked John and Antonio how Operation:
Find Cristian was going. They were stunned to learn that Ray Montez, who had some connection to a prison in Colombia, was now in Llanview. John also got some paperwork on the Marty Saybrooke accident, and reminded the officer to keep that quiet. Cole bumped into John (literally) and saw a photo of Marty in the folder he was carrying.
