The fact that AMC has so far not addressed Kendall's near rape scene, is making my blood boil....especially since Kendall is a child of rape and has a family history of her mother and sister being victims. To use this scene for shock value and as a plot point of Aiden having to comfort Kendall and sleep in her hotel room, is a slap in the face to all women who have gone through this nightmare. AMC and B&E have to be called out on it. Aiden tells Zach about Kendall meeting secretly with Ryan, but he doesn't bother to mention to Zach that Kendall was nearly raped while on her book tour by a crazed fan. Kendall must tell Zach about the attack and they should deal with it as husband and wife. This is a serious social issue and cannot be pushed under the rug by irresponsible writers and their plot driven s/ls.

ITA, Diva. This is particularly disgusting as Kendall is a child of rape, her sister was also raped, and her niece is a child of rape. It's crazy that this would not be dealt with dramatically, since under the circumstances I described, this incident would be bound to be particularly traumatic to Kendall. Of course, it would be incredibly traumatic to any woman. All this on top of the whole social issue which should be given its due. ABC should realize that many of their viewers have been victims of this type of crime, and are insulted to see it used as a casual plot point that is never even addressed as a topic on the show.

Thank you for bringing this to the forefront. AMC has for a very long time now, and especially in the past year, allowed very serious crimes to be committed by their leading characters without allowing them to suffer the conseqences of their actions. For example, Greenlee commited kidnapping but the stroke of a pen obliterated that crime . She has never taken responsibility or been held accountable for her crimes, yet Erica gets led to jail in handcuffs for a crime far less heinous. Now we have Kendall being nearly attacked but the scene is used as a plot point to allow for Ryan to catch her and Aiden in a compromising position. All My Children used to address social issues with sensitivity and grace and intelligence, but the incompetent writers they now have, use serious crimes to further the storylines for useless characters like Greenlee and Ryan without a real resolution. Rape is a violent crime against women, AMC's predominant audience, so to reduce its seriousness to just another plot point as though it's just another ho hum happening in the day of one character's life is insulting to the every audience it is trying to reach. Yet, they are very proficient at showing the tawdry skills of their actresses, such as pole dancing.Zach and Kendall must address this as an adult couple without the interference of superficial and fair weather friends and in the privacy of their own home without annoying interruptions. Rape is violent crime; not a plot point!

I couldn't agree more! I think it is appalling how lightly they have treated this incident. Kendall should have called Zach immediately and let him fly out there to help her deal with the trauma. This is a topic that should be explored in depth. I know that I am insulted by this plot point BS. I have written and emailed all TPTB letting them know how I feel about this. They had better get in touch with their audience and stop writing for the pre-teen crowd before it is too late.

ITA with the points being made in this thread. Any attack on a woman is a serious issue and should not be used as some plot point. AMC needs to deal with this issue and not sweep it under a rug -- AMC wrote this incident with Kendall so now it is time for the writers to deal with it. Kendall needs to address it and tell her husband (and family) what happened. Together they need to work through it as it does/will take an emotional toll on a woman (and utlimately affects her family). It makes no sense why Kendall would hide it. Again, the AMC writers are showing their lack of sensitivity and ability to write any kind of good stories. I can't add any more that what the posters of said here. ABC/AMC continue to show how little respect they have for women -- very sad when most of their viewers are women!

I totally agree! Kendall's attempted rape shouldn't be used as a plot point. It should definetly be addressed

Diva, thank you so much for starting this thread. As a woman and a survivor of rape I'm more than disgusted at the way this entire situation has been handled. Rape, attempted rape, violence against woman is not something to take lightly, even on daytime, especially on daytime, considering the majority of viewers are women and some are also victims of this vile crime. The character of Kendall has many deep-seated issues concerning rape. The fact that she is a child of rape, her mother & sister were both raped, and her neice is a product of rape, also added to the 10 months of hell she's been through, this should have been dealt with in a more realistic way that sends a positive message, not the negative message that is being sent.To use this vile, disgusting attact as a plot device for 2 s/l that are failing in the ratings is disrespectful and a slap in the face to woman & victims everywhere. They show Kendall being attacked, then the next day, she's laughing, hanging out with Aidan, and Ryan shows up...GMAB.TPTB better address this issue and now, not later. TPTB continue to show no respect for woman, but then again these are the same people who promote an emotionally abusive jerk as the romantic hero (Ryan), the same people that gave us Greenlee terrorizing a pregnant Kendall, kidnapping Spike, almost killing both Spike & Ian, then stalking her victims for fun and the victim Kendall is the one who continues to pay, while Greenlee is treated like the parton saint of PV with her victims singing her praises.TPTB better address Kendall's attempted rape in the manor it deserves. Woman, Victims of Rape, attempted rape, and violent acts deserve better than this....

I am totally appalled at AMC for making an attempted rape an insignificant plot point. To completely disrespect your female audience and ignore this serious issue when Kendall is a child of rape and is laughing the next day....AMC is a bad joke.

You know, the thing that sickens me the most is the unmitigated gall TPTB at Disney/ABC/AMC show to the veiwers by doing this in the first place. They know that the large majority of viewers are woman. They have to be aware that rape, even attempted rape happens every few mintues and this is a very real problem with very real consequences for the victim. Yet, they spit on the viewers with this poorly written crap.I do have to say that Alicia Minshew's portrayal was outstanding. She showed all the emotions you would expect in that scene and acted that scene out very well. Kudos to AM for an outstanding performance.Shame on Sweeney, Frons, Carruthers, Brown, & Esensten. I expect this from Frons, Carruthers, and B&E, but for Sweeney to sit back an not take action, it almost makes me cry over the blatant disrespect shown towards women & victims by TPTB at Disney/ABC/AMC....

ICA! Choosing to bring a rape scene into a storyline, just to make someone look like a hero or to justify two people sleeping in the same hotel room is beyond irresponsible, especially as you pointed out the role this violent act has played in Kendall's life. Why would TIIC think that in a medium such as daytime, who's audience is primary women, that we would find this must watch TV. Obviously they were wrong again. This needs to be addressed - I'd like to see Kendall deal with the ordeal with the help of her husband. AMC used to be socially conscious. What happened to them?

I'm glad you started this thread. Rape is such a serious issue that I'm surprised it seems to be used as a plot point. It's sad, ABCD worked so hard to incorporate the healthy heart campaign into all three shows as a way to say that they care about women. That's a strong positive message that makes me feel good. But to then not address an attempted rape on one of your most popular characters, who has a history of rape in her family, negates what points they did make at healthy heart. It makes me sad as a woman to know that a show written by a woman and run by a woman and created by a woman would be that irresponsible.

You have no idea how happy I am too see so many speaking out about this. TPTB need to be called on the carpet for this and now.I'm wondering what the editots of SOD/SOW think about this????This really isn't something that should be taken lightly by anyone. TPTB are sending a very negative, disturbing message and they have been for some time. Then again, these are the same people who see the character of Ryan Lavery as the hero/good guy, that all woman want, when a large majority of the viewers see him as an emotionally abusive monster. They are the same people think terrorizing a pregnant woman, kidnapping a child, almost killing 2 babies, and stalking you victims is okay because the victim will pay for the crimes. Greenlee is now the patron saint of PV with her victims worshipping at her feet, and she is allowed to hold Spike, sit, drink tea in Ian's home.I fear that if TPTB do not address this in the proper way even more viewers will tune out. Alicia did such a terrific job acting those scenes, it's a shame and a disgrace it was used for a plot device in a failing s/l that most viewers are not watching in the first place.

Diva, thanks for starting this post.Rape, indeed is a serious issue and should not be dealt with lightly. Kendall needs to tell Zach and they need to deal with it together. It really upset me that Aidan thought it was so important to tell Zach that Kendall TALKED with Ryan, but never thought it was important to tell him about the attempted rape. TPTB need to deal with this issue and not sweep it under the rug and forget it happened, (like the kidnapping).

Thank you for bringing this up! To have ABC and AMC treat such a serious issue with little more care than you would a hang nail speaks volumes for how BOTH the network and show seems to view women. It's an atrocity. ABC and AMC should be ashamed of themselves.

Everyone whose been watching AMC lately should know that it's important for the storytelling to be about sweeping kidnapped/maimed babies, pole dancing, chasing after someone elses wife because they can't remember the last four years, horrid promos (Real Greenlee) than to address such a serious issue like RAPE. Now how many fans have AMC lost in the last six months to year? Over a half million or more if I'm not mistaken. Please STOP with the plot points and start telling good storylines like you use to. That is SUCH a GOOD point.Though I had been complaining about the treatement of the rape storyline, I hadn't thought of it quite like that. That about says it all.

Please let me know where I can write, call or email to let tiic made aware of how serious this subject is and that it should not be treated lightly. Just because it only 'nearly' happened doesn't diminish its violence or the emotional problems that occur as a consequence. It seems they are more interested in accomodating and trying to find a place for recently returned 'real' actresses who are stuck in time warps while dumbing down characters that have grown and progressed far beyond the superficiality and juvenile antics of mere supporting parts, than dealing with 'real' social issues. Please don't let the writers, ABC or AMC get away with this by striking a pen mark through this event and making it disappear as they did with the crimes of kidnapping and baby maiming. Contact your local rape crisis center and find out what we can do about it.

ITA with you Diva, this must be addressed, because it raises much too serious an issue to just blow it off & drop it. There are many women out there who are dealing with these issues everyday & it's not fair to them not to give it the proper treatment it deserves.

Contact your local rape crisis center and find out what we can do about it. Great post.... I have contacted Disney/ABC/AMC and voiced my disgusted via, mail, e-mail, and comment line...I also contacted RAINN (Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network) and several organizations in my area....I also let my local affiliate know how disgusting, disrespectful, & repulsive I believe AMC is being by doing what they have done with this...As a survivor of rape & abuse it's sickening to see such a horrible message that Disney/ABC/AMC are sending out. They make light of a very serious issue that is harmful physically, emotionally, and psychologically to woman. They are saying that it is no big deal...This is not the first time that Disney/ABC/AMC has made light of such a serious issue. Look at how they attempt to portray the character of Ryan as a hero, when in fact, Ryan Lavery is the poster boy for emotional & psychological abusers everywhere. The idea that Kendall or even Greenlee would think that Ryan is so great is repulsive since they are his victims. Kendall is his biggest victim and is never allowed to stand up to him. sickening.Greenlee terrorized a pregnant woman, kidnapped her son, almost killed both her kids, then stalker her and victims are crucified while the baby-napping, baby-maiming stalker is placed on a pedistol and the victims worship at her feet. I cringe when I see Greenlee anywhere near Kendall's children.I know AMC is a soap opera. I know this is fiction, but when they are dealing with real life issues such as, abuse, kidnapping a child, almost killing children, stalking, rape, or attempted rape they should address this in the proper way. Disney/ABC/AMC has failed and will continue to fail until this is addressed in the manor it should be.

I agree with everyone Rape or attempted Rape should not be treated lightly and swept under the rug. AMC needs to step up to the plate and deal with storyline. They wrote it and they need to deal with a crime like that in a proper way. I am afraid with these writers we will probably not see that. They don't do justice to people who are victims just justice to the people that commit the crimes.

I agree with everyone here. The attempted rape storyline was not done to bring any socially relevant issue to the surface. It was done only to precipitate Kendall and Aidan becoming closer, both in proximity and experience, on the book tour. Using such a horrible crime as this as a plot point is appalling. But it isn't the first time we've seen this type of issue be swept under the rug at AMC. Look how many times women (especially Kendall) have been abused verbally and emotionally by others. It's an injustice to women, yes, but even more than that it's irresponsible of AMC's executives to not recognize what they've done.

What makes this especially ugly on the bear's part is the fact that if everyone of us speaking here isn't a victim of rape, we know someone who is. Every single one of us. That's how often it happens. For the writers and the show to just blow this off like so much crap is a slap in the face to survivors and the people who love them. I realize that's a pretty dramatic thing to say. But having Kendall fight off a rapist while her husband is pole-dancing, and then just brush it under the rug like it's nothing is more than miserable writing. It's irresponsible.

TPTB at ABC, AMC and Disney should be made aware of how the audience feels about irresponsible writing. The comments expressed here are a mirror of audience reaction to the present writing on All My Children and should be mailed to all those who have the power to bring about appropriate changes.

Another day has passed, another episode and still no mention of Kendall almost being raped.... Disgusting, repulsive, insensitive, and irresponsible...I keep waiting for them to address it, but each day that goes by with no mention just ticks me off more.I've stopped watching for the most part since the show is now back to being "The Rylee Hour", but I do tune in for Zach, Kendall, Erica, Tad, Adam..... Kendall's attempted rape deserves to be addressed in the proper way..... In fact, Kendall & Zach have been through a year of hell and nothing about what they went through. What an amazing s/l for TK/AM/SL/CE.... They could have Kendall deal not only with the attempted rape, but with all the emotional and psychological abuse that she's suffered since the Greenlee returned..TK/AM would hit grand slams out of a s/l like this, but instead they are stuck with propping duties and the dead weight characters...Ryan's amnesia, which makes him look like the emotional abuser we know him to be and Greenlee's neverending high school antics are more important to TIIC then this...and the ratings continue to drop.....

Anonymous

Not only was it used as a plot point ; it was used to promote the blasted "Charm" book! I `m just surprised there wasn`t a can of Campbell`s soup on the bedside table! They spun out the attack in order to give Kendall time to read out some of the more salacious excerpts from "her "work!

The other soaps for what ever reason either don't want to do this, choose not to do this, or are pressured into not doing this.As you said this is a very important social issue and whether it be a soap or a movie the public needs to know that this situation will be dealt with in the proper manner, not by revenge seeking husband, boyfriend or family member.Cudo's to you for bringing this to the for front.

It's obvious why they didn't handle it, Ryass wasn't involved. If he's not involved in a story for Kendall then it can't happen. Maybe that's why the ratings ate 1.8

I agree with both the statement, however if they are going to continue to follow a story line like this they should do the proper research and do it with the utmost taste and dignity. I realize there is not dignity in this particular subject, but what I mean is to give everyone a clear message that there are procedures to follow, and hopefully consequences to be had.Years ago an old Soap called Santa Barbara did a rape line and did it so well that one of the actress got and emmy for it.There was no vengeful lover, father etc going after revenge, they let he story line run it course, let the consequences be shown and let it die. They were one of the first show to approach this subject and the last to do it as properly as this particular subject would allow. They let if flow to a proper conclusion leaving me with the knowledge that there is a system, though it be somewhat slow it does work and there is a proceedure to follow. No other show has approached in the same way or even come close.I realize this may not be what you want to hear but I want you to know I hear you in what you say. I just say if you are going down this story line do it right and stop sensationalizing it treat it for what it is a crime on women.
