I mentioned this in a thread, but thought I'd bring it up again, because I think it's important. I don't know what we as viewers can do about it, but if this subject were to get to the networks somehow, I don't know, maybe.
Where I live at in Northern California, 3 soaps are played simultaneously. I know not everyone is a fan of all soaps on ABC, CBS and the only one on NBC; however, if the networks could air OLTL, ATWT, and Days at different times, perhaps we would see improvement in ratings. I don't understand the idea of airing all three of those soaps at the same time. I know about tivo and being able to watch episodes later on the internet but that doesn't save our stories. JMO
I have to wait until evening & watch on soap net. I wish soap net showed soaps on weekends but instead its old re-runs of 90210.
Soapnet does air soaps on weekends, in the evenings; unless something has changed in the last couple of months.
didn't they stop airing Days on the weekends? beacuse on NY time DOOL used to be on Sunday night from 1-5 AM now its AMC
In the evenings (Mon -Fri) Soapnet starts off w/ AMC at 7 est. Then OLTL, GH then Days.Weekends I can watch GH on Sundays all week in a row. The rest come on in the middle of the night (on the weekends)...I'm way to old to stay up.
Is SoapNet one of the reasons ratings are declining for our shows and that they are at risk for being canceled?
Soapnet could very well be the reason behind ratings decline, just like viewers can watch episodes on the internet; however, I have found watching episodes on the internet need help, ie; skips in a scene or stopping right in the middle of a scene to go to an extremely loud advertisement; that, by the way I have not found a way to fix on my own yet, and scenes that don't quite match up with what the actor is saying and doing. Sorry for the rant. Anyhow I do not have soapnet, but that is a very good comment on reasons why soaps are suffering from low ratings.
Some days I wish I had a Neilsons Ratings box!
I don't think the ratings are due to Soapnet. Back in the day women took care of the kids and the household. I don't know any housewives. Women have to work and come home and take care of the kids and cook and clean. We are living in a two income household society. I love my Soapnet.
Some of us, at this time, don't have the luxury of a two income household; I would like a ratings box also. Gonna have to research the possibility.
Some of us don't have the luxury of cable or tivo. We have to make do with the somewhat-trusty VCR. This whole didigtal tv signal really throws my recording of shows off. Basically limited to one show per day!
That sucks. I did not know VCR's had trouble taping with all the new HDTV we all "were required to upgrade too". Sorry to hear this. And no, I'm not being sarcastic.
Yeah, when the digital coverter box is run into the VCR and I want to tape shows, The VCR has to tape channel 3 (or 4 depending on how you set it up) and the DCB is set to the channel you want to record. Now if you work nights like I do, and sleep in the afternoons and evenings, you're pretty much limited to one show per day unless you want to set an alarm, get up to change to DCB channel and go back to bed. Eventually when I have some spare $$$ and nothing else to spend it on, I'll upgrade my electronics and hopefully eliminate this pesky problem.

Here's show my time zone's line up is:1100 - CBS - Y&R1130 - ABC - used to have Loving/The City and Port Charles1200 - NBC - Days - ABC - AMC1230 - CBS - B&B100 - CBS - ATWT - ABC - OLTL - NBC - used to have Another World and a couple others I never watched200 - CBS - GL .....well, I guess not anymore - ABC - GH - NBC - used to have Santa BarbaraMy watching/fandom always went in network waves - I'd watch all of CBS or NBC soaps etc. The only ones I never got into were B&B, OLTL, Passion and Sunset Bit....Beach. If one show got boring or something interesting was getting going on another, I'd switch over. I wouldn't stay loyal to one show or network of shows if they weren't entertaining me. Right now I'm into GH but even with that I come and go based on storylines. Last time I left because it looked like nothing was happening between Matt & Maxie (and I loved Jason Cook & Kirsten Storms togethor on DAYS ). Months later, nothing is still happening with them as a couple and Matt in general. I missed out on the first Karaoke night as a result, but I got to see Spixie's almost wedding and Jason in an pink tie!
