Okay, to a point, Sonny deserves this because of all his recent machinations. But, to be fair, Johnny convinced Sonny's daughter that Sonny is the very thing he despises most. A false accusation that cut so deep, Johnny might as well have stuck a knife in his heart. What's a mobster supposed to do?
Sonny set up a meeting to negotiate a truce. No other mobster would grant Johnny such a grace. They would simply whack him & be done with it.
Now, to the actual incident in question. First, did anyone else besides me notice the crossing guard behind Sonny? He dove out of sight after Sonny shot Johnny. He wasn't so far away that he couldn't hear the conversation. Second, this was the first time, besides when Sonny shot the tv, that he didn't look silly holding a gun.
Now, the investigation...Lucky was standing around that hospital for a minimum of an hour while they waited for an OR to open up to take John into surgery. Why didn't he have a kit or a CSI to swab Johnny's hand for GSR? Give us a little credit, GH!
Then, there's the prodigal dimwit, Dante. What a spell the Rat has him under! All skuzzball Ronnie has to do to shut down any independant thought in Dumte's head is mention the sainted Lt. Poletti. Then, Dumte's brain shuts down. He's so much like his father, it's nauseating. 
The only hope for this story is that unlike Dante, Lucky does actually listen to his gut instinct & his instinct is telling him Johnny provoked Sonny & he hasn't even spoken to Sonny yet. The sooner this boner of a story is ended, the better. Even if it means the 1 millionth reunion of Brenda & Sonny.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's probably going to be Franco, so that the only way Sonny gets off the hook is to have an eyewitness step forward and testify. And to get that witness to do that, they're going to have to cave to his demented demands. At least that's how I'd write it.........
Ordinarily, I'd say you're right, but while the shooting was going on, Franco was sneaking around Brenda's apartment in Rome. Although this being a soap, he could have more than just the one clone running around What I look forward to most about this story is when Dante does find that guy, not only will he be able to verify Sonny's version of the shooting, but he probably saw good ol' Ronnie's part in it too. Maybe then, Dante will grow a pair & tell Mac about Ronnie's other criminal acts of kindness (armed robbery, aiding & abetting a serial killer & God knows what else). Then, they can start the next story involving a new corrupt cop.

It is ironic that Sonny could (and I do mean could) go down for something that he really didn't do. Personally, I'm enjoying it, because like some many others, I'm tired of seeing Sonny skate. I did see a person behind Sonny, but even with rewinding I couldn't be sure who it was. I guess that's how Sonny will get off, because that person would have seen Johnny with a gun. The fact that it's at the bottom of the river makes it a he said/he said situation.As for Dante, why do they insist on ruining this character? What happened to the cop that came to town to put Sonny away? Sonny shot him point blank for being a cop. So tired of one person after another being sucked into the Sonny dimples. It made for better stories for Dante and Kristina to want no part of their father. Pretty soon the only one left that doesn't love Sonny will be Jax .
