here's my take on it Patrick should be found no memories at all and in his wallet is a picture of Kendall and the boys and he do not know his name nor the people in the picture an when he sees Marty he does;nt know her nor cole so he had another life and family on the East coast and do not remember who they are so Marty is his first family and Kendall is his second family
