Young and Restless Recaps

Y&R Week of February 18, 2008

Monday

Phyllis, Nick, Sharon and Jack had a working dinner about their new magazine project. There was a lot of positive talk about Nick's new workspace. "This is the place where everything is going to be happening," Nick crowed, as he shared that he already owned the building. Oh, really? The rest of them were surprised. Nick raved about the natural light. They continued to talk business and planned a visit to Ashley at Forrester in Los Angeles. (Hint: There's a crossover coming.) It was agreed that Sharon would also have an office for her foundation in Nick's building as well.

Eric and Eric Jr./Adam sat by Hope's bed. She was in a lot of pain but she didn't want any medication. "I don't want anything clouding my mind," she said. She begged them both to listen to her. "I need to know that you are both going to do what I asked of you," she whispered, barely getting the words out. Hope explained that she had forced Victor to stay away from them. She added that Victor could have taken her son away from her, but didn't. Victor Jr. wasn't listening and claimed that Victor didn't want them. Hope's dearest wish was to have the two of them together. Victor promised to stay close to "our son." Victor Jr. said he didn't need him. Hope was fading fast. Victor Jr. told his dad he wanted to stay focused on Hope, and he didn't want to open up to his father. Victor Jr. was wary of any attempts Victor made to forge a bond. Barely breathing, Hope remembered her romance with Victor and the birth of their baby. Victor Jr. came back to his mom's side. Hope said that having her son and Victor there "was everything I need." She told her son that it was very unselfish of Victor to stay away all this time. "He always kept track of you," she noted. "I can't love somebody I never knew," her son replied. "Relationships take time," Hope admitted. She began to say goodbye to her men. "Please make peace with each other. Take care of each other," she begged. The nurse showed up and took Hope's vitals; she was dead. Victor Jr. wept. Victor thanked the nurse for all she had done.

Kevin continued to slowly poison his mother as she watched. "Do you know how much I trust you?" she asked. Kevin thought there was enough in her to show up on tests. Gloria grumbled about Jack and Sharon being in the way of her scheme to frame her husband as her would-be murderer. She worked on the guest list for the poisoned dinner party. Jeffrey arrived and asked if Kevin was living there now, and accused them of planning his demise. Once they left, Jeffrey screened the entire meeting mother and son had just had. He thought their plan was pretty darn clever, "indeed." At the coffeehouse, Gloria panicked that she had left her purse (with the poison) at the house. She had, and Jeffrey was delighted when he found it. Gloria rushed home and found the poison safe and sound. Jeffrey hinted to Gloria that she better be nice to him or he might find the need to hurt her. Gloria was delighted to hear him say those words, though she covered well. Jeffrey and Gloria left the room, with Gloria holding on to her purse for dear life.

Jack, Sharon and Noah came home to find the house a total mess. They saw Gloria hunched over in pain. Sharon suggested they order a pizza, as "they have the kitchen for two hours." Sharon straightened out the living room, with Jack and Noah's help. Gloria appeared at the front door, complaining about her cramps and looking for her car keys. Sharon found them and Jack sent her on her way. "You are not going to drive us out," Jack vowed.

Amber hoped her night with Daniel wouldn't ruin their friendship.

Tuesday

At Hope's place, Victor lamented how weird it was to be there without her. Vic Jr. claimed there's no reason for him to stay around. Victor said he'd like to stay for her funeral. Victor asserted that he remained a part of Hope's life, even if he wasn't visible to Vic. Victor asked Vic if he needed any help with the arrangements, but Vic said no, the service would be small and intimate. Victor suggested that Vic return to Genoa City with him. Vic said he'd go back to New York after all the arrangements have been taken care of. Victor recited Vic's educational and career past. Vic declared that he worked and earned his way to where he's gotten so far. Victor told him he respected that. Victor said Vic is the kind of man he'd hire at Newman Enterprises, and noted he could hire him at twice his current salary. Vic insisted he could get to that point on his own. "But you'd get there faster with me," Victor suggested. "Think about it." Vic rejected Victor's claims that he gave a damn about Hope over the years. Victor insisted he'd prove it and show Vic a lot of things he doesn't know. He expressed a sense of responsibility toward Vic and a duty to fulfill Hope's dying wishes. The elder Newman insisted there's a lot he can teach Vic, but Vic dismissed him. Vic picked out the clothes and jewelry Hope should be buried in. Victor noted that the necklace Vic picked out for her to wear that she loved was one he had given her a long time ago. After the service Victor asked Vic once more to think about his offer. He asked what Vic plans to do with the farm. When Vic said he planned to sell it, Victor said he'd like to buy it and put it in Vic's name. Vic was taken aback by his father's offer. The two hugged briefly before Victor departed.

Nikki tried calling Victor, and left him a voicemail letting him know the kids are getting worried. Victoria complimented J.T. on how sharp he looked in his suit for his first day at work. J.T. doted on her and their baby. "I hate leaving you both," he sighed. J.T. wondered where her father went, noting that he won't be there for his first day of work. Victoria urged J.T. to go to work and focus on his new job. Likewise, J.T. told Victoria to enjoy her time at home and not worry about rushing back to work. J.T. suggested they look for a house since they'll soon outgrow their current place. The two kissed sweetly before J.T. headed for work. Victoria brought the baby out to meet Nikki, who asked Victoria if J.T. was honestly excited about his job. Victoria confirmed that he was. Nikki urged Victoria to relax and enjoy her time at home, but Victoria remained eager to return to work ASAP. Back at home, Victoria e-mailed Sabrina to catch her up on the events of her life over the past several months. Victoria reminisced about their fun times in Florence. After sending the e-mail she tended to her baby. J.T. returned home from work with lunch for Victoria. He noted how lonely it was at work and suggested that Victoria try returning to work and bringing the baby to the company daycare center. "I love you," Victoria beamed as she kissed her husband.

Amber visited Katherine at her request. Katherine said she wants Amber to become her assistant and help her write her book. Amber said she'd love to, pulled out her pad and pen and began to take notes. Katherine said there's one thread that ties her whole life together. "Love," suggested Amber. Over tea, Amber asked Katherine if there was a guy she was crazy about but they're "just friends" but she wants more, what should she do? "You're asking me?!" laughed Katherine, who told her she's got to give up on Cane. Katherine warned Amber that being lonely isn't a reason to get involved with somebody new. Amber insisted there's more to it than that. Katherine joked that Amber still has a lot of growing up to do. Amber then began to take notes for Katherine's memoir. Their conversation was interrupted by a call from Victor, who informed her that Hope passed away. A tearful Katherine expressed her condolences. She told Amber she needed to end their session for the day. Amber offered her friendship to Katherine before showing herself out. Nikki arrived after Katherine called her to break the news that Hope died and that's where Victor has been. Nikki wondered aloud what happened to Victor and Hope's son, and explained the arrangement they had about him. Katherine reassured Nikki that she is the love of Victor's life. Nikki questioned why Victor let her slip away then. Katherine speculated that Hope's death would change Victor's life dramatically. Nikki insisted it won't change hers.

At Crimson Lights, Jana suggested to Amber that she's fallen hard for Daniel. Amber became annoyed by Jana's comments and declared she was taking a vow of celibacy. Jana said she experienced forced celibacy in prison and warned that it leads to madness, and suggested she go for it with Daniel. But Amber dismissed her and her advice. Nikki called Nick on his cell to inform him of Hope's death and Victor's whereabouts. Nikki suggested the two of them reach out to Victor, but Nick expressed his doubts. "Every time you reach out to him you get your hand chopped off," he warned.

Neil welcomed Nick back to the office. Neil said no one had a clue where Victor was. Nick told Neil about the new magazine he's launching and explained how he'd like the "Beauty of Nature" line to be the foundation for their ad base. Nick offered to promote the line through big features. Neil said he liked the idea but cautioned that Victor probably wouldn't because Jack is involved. Nick suggested he probably wouldn't approve even if Jack weren't involved, but Nick said that Victor would never pass on a good business opportunity. Nick offered them a deal "that would make your head spin," and handed Neil a prospectus. Neil promised to review the prospectus and get back to him. J.T. arrived and Nick expressed his surprise at J.T. actually following through on his plans to work there. Nick advised J.T. to keep his guard up with Victor, but J.T. scoffed at Nick's advice.

Wednesday

Neil called Nick to tell him that Beauty of Nature is now on board as an advertiser. Phyllis asked Nick why he wasn't that enthusiastic. He said it's because his dad is back in town. Phyllis suggested that he might have an opportunity to reconnect with Victor now. Nick remained obstinate about reaching out. Phyllis asked him how he'd feel if Summer didn't want to talk to him in 30 years? She lamented that she can't bring Nick and Victor back together. Nick told Phyllis he loves her but doesn't want to have this conversation with her again. He wanted her to focus on their daughter and the magazine.

Gloria and Kevin had tea with Michael and Lauren. Michael said he'd been in Korea and tracked down Jeffrey's girlfriend. He said Jeffrey was planning to relocate there with Gloria's money. "After he ships me off to prison," sniffed Gloria, who questioned the legality of it. Michael said as her spouse he has the legal right to do whatever he wants with their shared assets. Gloria invited them all to dinner at her place. Michael and Lauren reluctantly agreed. Gloria told Kevin she hated lying to Michael. The two reviewed their game plan for the dinner.

J.T. checked in on Victoria and found her asleep with the baby on the bed. He put the baby to bed in his crib. The phone rang and woke up Victoria. J.T. answered and it was Victor, who wanted to come by and say hello. Victoria said she'd rather step out for some fresh air, and said she'd meet him at the club. Victoria told J.T. she was glad her dad was finally back home. At the club, Victor welcomed Victoria, and said how lonely he felt coming back to an empty house. Victor told her all about his son by Hope, and told Victoria that he made him an offer to work at Newman. Victoria questioned that decision. He defended it by citing Vic's achievements and qualifications, and asked Victoria if she'd support him if he came to Genoa City. She said she's caught up on business matters she missed while she was in her coma. Victoria suggested that he and Nikki split up because of the stress over her medical crisis. Victor insisted their problems had nothing to do with her. Victoria surprised him by saying she'd be returning to work next week, but he said if it made her happy he'd be delighted. Nick and Phyllis arrived. Nick expressed his condolences to Victor about Hope. Victor told Nick about Vic and how fabulous he is. Nick and Phyllis joined Jack and Sharon and shared the good news about Beauty of Nature. Victor returned to the office and Neil updated him on things, including Brad's departure. Victor called Vic and left him a voicemail to check in on him. Vic packed his bags and left the farm.

At the Abbott mansion, Sharon showed Jack a spy cam she discovered on the shelf in their living room. They speculated as to who was spying on whom. Jack used his laptop to review the recording from the camera. They saw Jeffrey handling a bottle of something in Gloria's purse. They couldn't tell if he was stealing or planting something. Jeff entered and said it's his turn to have the living room. Jack made Jeff an offer: "How much money will it take to get you to convince Gloria to move out?" Jack offered almost double the market value of Jeffrey and Gloria's half of the house: $5 million. "Too low," Jeff sniffed, as Gloria came home. When Jeff and Gloria stepped out Jack replaced the spy cam and they observed the dropper bottle of liquid in Gloria's bag that they spied Jeffrey handling on the spy cam. Gloria told Jeff she's hosting a dinner party. Jeff told her about Jack's offer and said he planned to take him up on it. Gloria refused. Jeffrey said either they sell the house to Jack and move out to a new place or he'll send her to jail. Gloria flipped out. Jeff relocated the spy cam to the dining room. "Tonight will be a very interesting show," he chuckled to himself. Gloria and Kevin finished prepping for the dinner party as Michael and Lauren arrived. As the party got underway Gloria added the poison to her martini.

Nikki ran into Victor and offered her condolences about Hope. She then informed Victor that Victoria and the baby moved back to J.T.'s loft. Nikki said she planned to move away from the ranch ASAP as well. She asked Brad and David to finalize things so Brad can leave Newman and come to work at Jabot immediately. Brad expressed his enthusiasm at doing so. Cane welcomed Brad aboard at Jabot. Brad asked Cane if he had a few minutes to pick his brain. The two agreed to meet later for a drink. When they did, Brad asked Cane about the political lay of the land at Jabot. Cane's advice was just "to be nice to everybody." David expressed his concern to Nikki about Brad. Nikki assured David that Brad would be a good fit for Jabot. She suggested it would be helpful if David wasn't so suspicious about everybody.

Thursday

Victor rejected Neil's pleas to consider advertising in Nick's new magazine. "In this case, you were wrong," Victor sniffed. Neil tried to tout the business strengths of the magazine, but Victor refused to get involved in any way. Brad paid a visit to Victor and tried to rattle his rival's cage. But Victor remained a cool cucumber, and seemed unfazed by Brad's attempts to goad him.

Nikki called David to say she was working late and they decided on a late dinner at home. Victoria doted on baby Reed at home while J.T. was at work. She sent Sabrina another lengthy e-mail. Afterwards Victoria brought the baby to visit Nikki at the office. Victoria shared that Victor had told her about Hope. She told her mother how Victor invited Vic Jr. to come work for him at Newman. Nikki was skeptical that he'd take the job. Changing gears, she asked Victoria how she was feeling. Victoria said she was okay and not to worry, she's taking things one step at a time. Nikki suggested Victoria has the postpartum blues. Vikki revealed she's going back to work next week.

Paul met with Heather and Maggie to rehash the dead ends they've reached in the Ji Min murder case, and how Jack can no longer be considered a suspect. Paul and Maggie gave a defeated Heather a pep talk. Daniel noticed that Amber was spying on their conversation. Daniel and Amber discussed their tryst. Amber encouraged Daniel to ask Heather out; she claimed she's not looking for anything more from Daniel than friendship. Daniel agreed and went to talk to Heather, who agreed to join him for dinner. Amber seemed hurt that Daniel took her up on her offer. Meanwhile, Daniel and Heather flirted over dinner, and she surprised Daniel by inviting him back to her place for a nightcap.

Phyllis, Nick, Jack and Sharon tried to brainstorm names for the magazine, and came up with Restless Style. Neil called Nick with the bad news that Victor killed their deal, but wished Nick well with the magazine. Jack and Sharon shared a tender moment as he thanked Sharon for putting up with everything that's been going on. Then Jack gave Nick a pep talk and told him not to let Victor get him down. After Jack and Sharon left Phyllis had to calm Nick down and stop him from going over and giving Victor a piece of his mind. But Nick decided to go anyway. He told Victor he's passing on a good business opportunity just to spite him and Jack. Victor told him not to flatter himself, and questioned what Nick knew about the magazine business. J.T. stopped by to see Victor and asked his permission to make certain upgrades to their security system. Victor expressed his admiration for his work ethic. J.T. told Victor of his plans to buy a house for Victoria and their family. Victor noted it would be hard getting a mortgage these days, so he suggested J.T. buy Nick and Sharon's old place, and offered to advance him the money for it. J.T. expressed his gratitude.

Phyllis and Victoria got together with their babies. Victoria asked how the magazine was going. Phyllis encouraged Victoria to join them but Vikki declined, saying she belongs at Newman because her dad needs her. Nick returned home and also asked Victoria to join them at the magazine. Then Nikki dropped by to check on everyone.

Gloria played hostess at her farce of a dinner party. Jeffrey announced the huge offer Jack offered them to move out. Michael urged Gloria to "take the money and run." Gloria admitted their dinner was takeout, not home cooking. Michael, Gloria and Kevin tried to rattle Jeffrey's cage by discussing Korea. Jeffrey admitted he had a girlfriend there, but said she was an ex. He admitted he sends her money out of sympathy because she's poor. While Gloria and Kevin prepared dessert, Jeffrey went to get coffee. While preparing the "dessert" Kevin gave Gloria enough poison for their plan. They returned and ate dessert. Afterwards Gloria suggested they all retire to the living room. As Gloria stood up she stumbled. Everyone asked if she was okay. Gloria said she was feeling lightheaded and took a seat on the sofa, then collapsed onto the floor while Jeffrey remained in the dining room eating, unfazed.

Jack and Sharon dined out after coming home to witness Gloria's dinner party. They speculated on the contents of the liquid bottle in Gloria's bag. They then agreed to fly to Los Angeles to meet with Eric Forrester. Jack got a call on his cell from his lawyer with good news: he's no longer a person of interest in Ji Min's murder.

While on a business call, Victor turned around to see Vic Jr. standing before him in his office. "Well, I'll be damned," Victor uttered.

Friday

Jack and Sharon came home to an empty house with the dining room still left a mess, and wondered what happened and where everybody went. Michael confronted Kevin about Gloria's illness. Jeffrey brought Gloria home from the hospital. Gloria and Kevin seemed surprised that she wasn't sicker. Privately Michael and Lauren grilled Kevin about Gloria's illness. Jack asked Jeffrey if he's given any consideration to his offer. Jeffrey said he's thinking about it. Sharon suggested they check the spy cam, but it was gone. When the coast was clear, Gloria sneaked out of the house to meet Kevin. They were at a loss as to why Gloria didn't get sick. Sharon caught Jeffrey checking on the spy cam in its new location. Kevin tested the poison and discovered it was water, while Jeffrey caught Gloria sneaking back into the house. Jeffrey told Gloria he knew about her poison plan. Gloria denied everything until Jeffrey explained how he switched the poison with water. "You wanna play games? Let's," Jeffrey challenged.

J.T. talked to Victoria about buying Nick and Sharon's house. Victoria said she likes the loft, but J.T. reminded her of their needs for the future. Victoria was happy at the idea of living next to her father. Nikki arrived and Victoria and J.T. told her of their decision to move. Nikki said she and David would take a suite at the club while they house hunt. Victoria told Nick about her and J.T.'s plans to buy the place. Nick was happy and gave them his blessing. Victoria told Nick how isolated and alone she's been feeling, but said she was looking forward to going back to work.

Phyllis and Nick reviewed their plans for the magazine's office. Phyllis teased that Nick is sexy and full of energy now that he's working for himself. Meanwhile, Victor welcome Vic Jr. to his office. Vic said he's interested in that job offer if it still stands. Vic said he took a leave from his job at the bank in New York so he could have a trial run at Newman. He clarified that he's not there to make up for lost father/son time, but simply as a career move. He added that he'd prefer to go by his middle name, Adam (and hide his relationship to Victor), so people won't get the wrong idea. Victor was amused and agreed to Vic's terms. The two took a tour of Newman Enterprises. Vic was impressed by their operations. They agreed that Vic would start tomorrow and begin by learning each department. Victor gave Vic plenty of reading material to get acquainted with the company. Vic declined his offer to stay at his ranch. Victor called Vic's hotel and told them to give him their best suite and service and bill Newman for the room.

Phyllis tried to warn Nikki and David about Brad, but Nikki assured her that Brad has earned her trust. Nikki told David that Victoria and J.T. are buying the house. She added that his friend Walter had called and left a message for David. David seemed unnerved and told Nikki that he's not a friend, just a pain, and would prefer to not speak with him. At the hotel bar, Phyllis ended up taking a drink next to Vic, who said he was new in town for a new job and was looking for friends. He invited Phyllis for dinner. Phyllis laughingly showed him her wedding ring. Vic apologized, saying he hadn't noticed. The two engaged in light banter until Phyllis' dinner order was ready. At home over dinner, Phyllis told Nick that "some new guy in town" hit on her. Victoria brought the baby to see Victor, who dropped the bombshell that "a new executive" would be replacing Nick — his son.
