Nina met with a reluctant Cane at Crimson Lights to interview him for background for her screenplay. She began by asking about the woman who he had believed to be his mother — Violet Montgomery. Cane confirmed that she had died of pneumonia when he was small. He explained that his childhood was not a happy time and preferred not to discuss it. Nina then began questioning him about Amber. Cane asked Nina if really it was her OWN curiosity that was driving her to ask all these questions; perhaps she wanted to find out more about the Philip she had married? She admitted that was true, but that she was coming up with many dead ends. She confessed that she was confused as to why she could find absolutely nothing about Violet Montgomery. Cane agreed that it was bizarre, but advised her to just chalk it up to a cold trail and leave it alone. He hastily made an excuse to leave, then phoned Langley and expressed his angst about Nina's persistence. Langley tried to put his mind at ease, but Cane was adamant that he could not lose his new life. "Your wife will not stop until she finds out the truth about you, Philip!" he exclaimed.

Chloe arrived at the Abbott mansion to meet with Billy. They got into an argument after Chloe raked him over the coals. She wondered if he got Sharon pregnant on their wedding day. "What a wedding gift!" she spat. Billy claimed that he had hit rock bottom and was ready to do whatever it took to get her back. A sad Chloe replied that she didn't think she even wanted him back at all. She left, and went to the GCAC to seek advice from Katherine. Once there, she poured her heart out to Kay, telling her that she wished Billy could be everything she wanted him to be. Katherine told her that no matter WHAT she did, she would never be able to change him. She further advised her that the only person she could change was herself, and that she needed to work on her self-respect. Kay offered to act as Chloe's "sponsor" and told her to call whenever she was tempted to go back to Billy,

Billy went to the coffeehouse hoping to run into Mac. She was there, flipping through a scrapbook she had made about their relationship. She handed it to him, and they reminisced about their good times together. Billy called her out on sending mixed signals. "I have to beg and plead for every scrap of honesty from you!" he told her. "Just admit that you still love me ... don't you?" he demanded. "YES" she snapped. She quickly explained that even though she still had residual feelings for him, neither one of them was available. Billy disagreed, and confessed that Chloe wanted to end their marriage, therefore he was available. Chloe had gone to the coffeehouse after meeting with Katherine and overheard the whole conversation. Upset, she left. Katherine entered the coffeehouse to find Mac. They discussed Mac's feelings for Billy.

At the ranch, JT demanded to know why Mary Jane was on their property. She explained that she had been visiting Phyllis and was just exploring the beautiful property. JT was skeptical, but let her go. MJ left to go back to the GCAC, where she had a run-in with Paul. He admitted that he had dug into her financial background, and had discovered that she opened a bank account in Genoa City a few months ago with an enormous cash deposit. He demanded to know who had provided her with a brand new identity, fake credentials, and a boatload of cash. She told him that his behavior had gone beyond creepy, and that she now considered him a stalker. She went upstairs, and Paul headed to the bar, where he encountered Nina. They exchanged a warm greeting, and Nina explained her research about Philip's past. Paul gave her the few details he remembered about Violet Montgomery from his investigation and offered to give her the file. Nina eagerly accepted the offer, and left. Officer Gil arrived and told Paul that he would have to bring him in for questioning; that Mary Jane Benson had filed a complaint against him for stalking and harassment. Paul was stunned. Meanwhile, in her room, MJ was stroking her cat and cursing all the people who were out to get her. She apologized to the cat for smashing a bird through a window earlier in the day, saying that she had hoped never to harm another animal after what she had done to the cat. In a creepy voice, she told the cat that she was sure he could forgive her.

Victoria arrived at Jimmy's bar to meet with Agent Howard Aucker about their plan to capture the art thief. A few moments later, Jana barged in with Amber and Kevin, and they began asking questions. Amber confronted Agent Aucker and demanded that he protect Daniel. He responded that he had no obligation to do so, and that in fact he might end up ARRESTING Daniel.

In the alley behind Jimmy's, Daniel came face to face with the fake Aucker and asked for his painting back. Aucker pulled out a gun, and threatened to shoot Daniel if he didn't leave. Daniel refused, saying "I don't see you making a deal with Victoria Newman over a dead body." Aucker was cocking his gun when Victoria called him on his cell phone to announce that she was on her way. Just then, a masked man jumped Aucker and shot him with the gun. Daniel ran off just as Victoria arrived. She screamed when she saw the bloody body. JT followed her screams and arrived just after the masked man pushed a huge pile of crates onto Victoria. JT began furiously digging through the crates. He came up with Victoria, unconscious, and screamed for an ambulance. Meanwhile the masked man silently slipped back into the alley and swiped the painting. As EMTs loaded Victoria onto a stretcher, JT told Aucker that he would come after him if his wife died.
Jana, Amber and Kevin rushed to Daniel's apartment and were overjoyed to find him there. He announced that he was in very serious trouble, and cut off the electricity to the apartment and locked them all inside.
