Y&R Week of October 20, 2008
Monday
Lauren and Michael discussed River's case and how River blew his bail by trying to escape. Eden came downstairs and announced that she was going out. When they asked her where, she answered "around," which raised Michael's suspicions. Eden accused Michael of resenting her presence, but he explained to his sister that he wanted their arrangement to work out, for their father's sake. Michael then told her that he now believes that River is innocent. He urged Eden to behave herself, noting that everything she did would be scrutinized. Later, Lauren and Eden bonded over a shopping trip.
At Newman Enterprises, Nick and Victoria worried about Nikki and her plan to make it look as if Victor were in Brazil. Nick feared that Nikki would be caught and thrown in jail. Just then, Nikki arrived in Genoa City and insisted that she had no problems getting home, thanks to Paul. Nick suggested that he be the next one to leave town because he had more viable and less suspicious reasons — like business trips — to be traveling.
Heather informed Adam that Victor was in South America, but managed to get away. Paul then arrived and asked to speak with Heather about Victor's case. Heather was upset with him for lying to the Feds in Brazil. She accused him of doing so to help out Nikki. Paul apologized, but Heather wouldn't hear it and stormed out. She went to question Nikki about Brazil, but Nikki refused to answer anything without her lawyer present. Heather suggested that Nikki give her attorney a call so they could get started. Michael soon arrived to be Nikki's lawyer... Victoria confided to Nick that she didn't think Victor killed Walter, but Nick suspected that he did.
At the Abbott mansion, Sharon questioned Jack about why he'd gotten a credit card charge for a particular motel. Jack pretended that he was the victim of identity theft, not letting on that he and Adam were dealing with their forgery plan at the motel. He then went and cancelled the card.
Adam informed Jack about Victor being in South America. Adam and Jack then met again to work on their scheme involving Victor's forged diaries.... Sharon told Nick that Jack was adjusting to the idea of her working for Newman again. They then discussed Noah and agreed that he was behaving well. Noah ran into Eden at Crimson Lights. He again asked if she was going to the school trip in Paris, but she wasn't planning to.
Victoria thanked Paul for helping out Nikki.... Nick informed Victoria that Victor and Sabrina's French chateau had been burned to the ground.... Nikki and Michael were shocked when Victor called Nikki. Nikki pretended it was Nick calling. Victor implored her not to interfere in her case. Nikki put Michael on the phone with him. Heather realized that Michael and Nikki were speaking with Victor. Vic demanded that Michael put him on the phone with Heather. He demanded that Heather listen to him.
Tuesday
At Jabot, Cane discussed business with Billy, Jill and Katherine. He wanted to launch several new lines at once, but Jill suggested they take things slowly and only launch one at a time. Cane reminded her that he's the CEO, then left with Billy. After, Kay admonished Jill for hovering over Cane, but Jill noted that Katherine does the same thing to her.
Billy and Cane sat down for lunch. Billy noted how unfortunate it was that they lost Lily as the Fresh Face of Jabot. Cane agreed that he missed Lily. Billy then questioned his brother about Chloe. Cane admitted that he couldn't remember sleeping with her, but the DNA test proved that he could be her baby's father. Billy praised him for stepping up and taking responsibility as a future dad. They then discussed how Jill will fight for her children. Billy admitted how weird it was knowing that Cane was the real Phillip III, but Cane noted that the young man whom Jill had believed was Phillip was more of a son that he was. Billy then warned Cane to be more
aggressive when dealing with Jabot. "In this town, sometimes you have to get bloody," he warned. "I don't have any problems getting bloody," replied Cane. "I just don't want to have to draw it from my family, okay?" Cane was surprised that Billy was being so laid back about him running the company, rather than Billy. Billy confessed that he's afraid of commitment, of any kind. Cane suggested Billy help him with the company.
At the Abbott mansion, Gloria called Jeffrey and pleaded with him to come home. Jack questioned her about getting dumped. Glo called it a "marital misunderstanding." Jack feared that if she and Jeff split, he'd get screwed over in his plan to win back Jabot. Gloria assured him that Jeff would return. Still, Jack wanted to jump on taking back Jabot and accused Gloria of not holding up her end of their deal. He demanded that she get Katherine's stocks ASAP.... Kevin showed Kay a new computer program. After,
Glo reminded him that she needed his help in tricking Kay. Kevin didn't like the idea of hurting the woman who was John's best friend.... Later, Jill and Jack ran into each other at Crimson Lights. Jill taunted Jack about being unemployed; he teased Jill about Gloria and Kay becoming friends.... Gloria went to see Katherine. Glo insisted that Kay had left her a message, but Kay denied it. Gloria feigned concern and played back a doctored phone message
from Kay, asking Gloria to see her. Kay again refused to give Glo her Jabot stock. Gloria was unfazed and reminded Kay of all the "senior moments" she'd been having — and insisted that Kay promised her five percent the stock. "I am just fine!" Katherine yelled. Gloria pressed on about the stock and called Kay "cruel" for keeping it from her. Gloria then kept insisting that Kay offered up her stocks and noted that something was wrong with Kay. A
confused Katherine agreed to let Gloria take her to a doctor. First, Glo handed her a document to sign.... Kevin warned Cane not to trust Billy.... Cane told Jill he wanted Billy to help him at work, but Jill noted that her other son had a "complicated past." Meanwhile, Billy complained to Jack about Cane being in charge of Jabot.
Paul found Adam waiting for someone at a motel; Adam explained that he had a friend visiting from Kansas. Adam accused Paul of following him.... As Nikki, Michael, Victoria and Nick looked on, Victor spoke with Heather on the phone and told her to leave him and his family alone. He also insisted that he didn't commit any crimes in Mexico. Victor then announced over her speaker phone that Michael is no longer his attorney and wouldn't know anything about his whereabouts. After that, Newman hung up. Later, Nikki
realized that Heather was trying to trace the call and stomped on the chip in the phone. Heather compared Victor to David, calling both killers. Victoria and Nick tossed her out, but Heather wasn't fazed. She vowed to find Victor and have him prosecuted. After, the Newmans and Michael discussed the chateau burning down and it possibly being arson. Nikki insisted that Michael tell them everything he knows about Victor, now that he was fired as the lawyer. Michael confirmed that Victor was in France.... Adam told Heather about how Paul had questioned him about his activities.
Heather then filled him in on Victor calling. Heather again vowed that Victor would be found. Paul then warned Heather that he suspected Adam was up to no good, but Heather was still furious with Paul for helping Nikki in Brazil.... Nick planned to make it seem as if Victor were in Buenos Aires. Meanwhile, Michael told Nikki that he didn't think Victor was guilty of murder. "He's just destroying himself," Nikki whispered.
Wednesday
Gloria was about to have a confused Katherine sign over her Jabot stocks. Kay signed the first two letters of her name, but they were interrupted by Jill. Jill didn't think Kay knew what she was signing, which angered Kay. Jill didn't care; she ripped up the contract and told Gloria to stay away from her mother. Glo was furious and promptly called Kevin to complain. She wondered if he could do something to make it look like her full name was on there. After, Jill questioned Gloria about her scheme and Glo insisted that
it was Katherine's ideas. Jill again warned Gloria to stay away. Later, Jill told Kay that she wanted to have her mother see a specialist about suffering from possible dementia. She then requested that Kay hand over her car keys. Jill was alarmed when Kay called a taxi and disappeared. The scene cut to Kay drinking. Uh-oh.
Nick and Phyllis kissed and cuddled at Restless Style. Phyllis showed him the latest magazine layout and assured him that everything was going smoothly, even with him doing double duty at Newman Enterprises. Phyllis was annoyed when Amber arrived for work and began kissing Daniel. Nick urged Phyllis to let them be. Nick jokingly suggested another way that Phyllis could fight Amber. Instead, Phyllis took the passive/aggressive approach and apologized to Amber for getting in the middle of Amber's "extremely, extremely public confession on the radio." Amber gleefully informed Phyllis that she was now living with Daniel. Phyllis tried to stop them by noting that there was no closet space. "It could be a crack house crawling with rats and I wouldn't care," Amber sweetly replied. Daniel thought this was romantic, but steam was coming out of Phyll's ears. Nick tried to keep her
calm.
Amber and Daniel invited Jana and Kevin for dinner at their place.... At their home, Phyllis and Nick spent time with Summer and continued to discuss Daniel. Nick advised her to let her adult son live his own life.... Jana asked Amber if she'd noticed Kay having memory lapses and recalled how Kay had forgotten where her car was. Amber then questioned Kevin about Kay's behavior. Jana took Kevin outside and again wondered if he was involved in the car being moved. Kevin apologized for lying to her and promised it wouldn't happen again... Later at home, Amber and Daniel enjoyed their first night living together.
Michael visited River in prison and showed his father a 40-year-old photo he obtained from the bombing site. River began to identify some of the people featured and explained how he knew them. Michael pointed out a particular woman in the photo, but River said he didn't know who she was. Michael urged him to remember because he felt having a female witness would help the case. Michael then realized the woman was Gloria and wondered why she was looking away. River recalled that she was tending to a little Michael, who'd just removed his pants. River explained that Glo had left before the rally and didn't know anything that happened firsthand. He didn't want Gloria involved in the case, but Michael believed she should testify. He called his mom to meet up with them. Later, Gloria stared at the photo and reminisced about her old friends. She recalled it being the last day before the big
rally. River kept trying to cut Gloria off; Michael accused them of hiding something and demanded that they come clean. Gloria began to talk, explaining how the group was supposed to have set off a confetti bomb, not a real one. She noted that River's best friend Marshall Tenney was the one responsible for the bomb. There was then a flashback of the '60s, featuring a younger River, a 4-year-old Michael and a younger (and very blond) Gloria. In the present, Glo told Michael that he was a huge part of what happened next. In the flashback, the hippies rallied as a younger River insisted that they use non-violent means in their protest. Young River explained that he had a son and didn't want Michael to live in world filled with violence. In the present, Michael was touched.
Thursday
At the prison, Gloria and River continued to fill in Michael on the rally
they'd attended 40 years ago. In the past, River urged his fellow hippies to
use nonviolent means, but his friend Marshall argued with him. In the
present, Gloria recalled getting a bad feeling about their protest. She
declared River's speech about not using violence to be "beautiful." Gloria
then began yelling at River for not having come home with her and Michael
that day. She was furious with him for deserting them and broke into sobs.
River looked crushed, but felt Glo had the right to say that. He apologized
for ruining her life. Back in the past, Young Gloria begged Young River to
come home with her. He promised that it would be his last rally and after
that, they and Michael would be a family. YR then said good-bye to adorable
little Michael. YR and YG kissed before he left. In the present, River
explained to Michael that since Glo hadn't been there, she couldn't have
vouched for him. Later at home, Michael told Lauren that it was overwhelming
to think of his parents as these young, idealistic people. Michael wanted to
find Marshall so he could testify.
At Crimson Lights, Colleen got a call from Lily, who'd just returned from
New York. Billy overheard and asked Colleen if he could hang out with them
at Indigo.
Also at the coffeehouse, a pregnant Chloe reminded Esther that she's "Chloe"
and not Kate. Chloe was annoyed when Esther put her hand on Chloe's belly.
Chloe also didn't appreciate the baby outfit that Esther brought for her.
Eager to leave, Chloe told Cane that they're going to Indigo. Cane didn't
feel like going, but she insisted on going to that club, explaining that she
had a "craving" for it. Cane found this hard to believe, but gave in and
agreed to go with her.
At Indigo, Tyra informed Neil that she'd dealt with a customer who couldn't
pay for dinner, so she comped him. Neil joked that the money would come out
of her paycheck. Soon, Lily arrived and Neil told her that Tyra and Ana are
staying in town. Lily was thrilled. Lily then shared the details on her trip
to NYC, including how she and Olivia had gone to see a particular musical.
Karen soon joined them and praised Ana for being funny and special. Tyra
asked Karen if she and Neil were going to have kids, but Karen wasn't so
sure.
At the coffeehouse, Noah asked Sharon to sign his permission slip for his
school's trip to France. Sharon was pleased that he was getting to go
overseas. She left to get some files for work.... Lauren told Eden that she
and Michael were letting her go to France. Eden was nervous about being so
far away from her dad, but Lauren suggested she put together a picture diary
of Paris for River. Eden went to hang out at Crimson Lights. There, she
joined Noah and informed him that the Baldwins are letting her to France.
Noah was puzzled when Eden admitted that she was still hesitant to go, given
everything happening at home. Just then, Sharon called Noah, but he ignored
the call. Sharon found Noah in the coffeehouse and he gave her lip, in order
to look cool in front of Eden. After, he apologized, then asked Sharon why
girls can be so fickle in their feelings toward boys. Sharon explained that
sometimes when they play hard-to-get it means that they really do like
you.... Eden came home and told the Baldwins that she does want to go to
France after all. Michael told his sister that he found a new lead in
clearing River.
Neil, Colleen and Billy were upset for Lily when Cane arrived at
Indigo. Things became awkward when Ana asked Cane if Lily told him about Ana
and Tyra being back in town.... Lily and Colleen then chatted about the
online dating site Lily joined; she encouraged Colleen and Billy to log on,
as well.... Cane and Chloe shared a tense dinner. Karen and Tyra prevented
Neil from hassling Cane. He was interrupted when Olivia arrived. Lily joined
them and was surprised to learn that Liv had been Karen's doctor in New
York. Later, Liv and Neil caught up and discussed Lily being heartbroken
over Cane (or as Liv called him, "That Aussie guy.").... Coll wondered why
Lily didn't leave the club, but Lily assured her that she'd be okay. To
prove it, Lily went to say hello to Cane.... Billy accused Chloe of
following him to Indigo; she explained that she'd overheard him talking
about the gumbo at the club and had a craving for it.... Karen and Liv
whispered about something medically-related that Karen didn't want Neil to
know.... Billy informed Chloe that he was interested in Lily, and asked
Chloe to help him out. She agreed to team up with him. Meanwhile, Lily told
Cane that she thought Billy was "fun." Cane replied that he didn't trust his
brother, but Lily told him to butt out.
At the prison, Gloria thanked River for getting her off the hook with
Michael. She apologized for not helping him all those years ago. As Glo
left, River flashed back to being a family with Young Gloria and Little
Michael. In the present, Michael, Lauren and Fen presented a similar
portrait as Michael left to get information on his dad's case.
Friday
Adam went to meet the forger, Frank. Adam called Jack and asked why he wasn't at the meeting; Jack replied that he was going to be late and told Adam to take over. Jack then lied to Sharon that he was running errands, including getting a new water heater.... Meanwhile, Adam met with Frank. Frank was upset that Jack didn't show and wasn't sure he could trust the guy. Frank called Jack, who said that he'd only give Frank the money if the
forger gave Adam the diary. Later, Jack and Adam met with Robert, the editor; they explained that they couldn't reveal where they got the journal. Later, Adam and Jack argued; Adam feared that if the forgery were find out, he'd get blamed for it. Jack reminded him that they were going to make a fortune, and that even if Victor returned, he couldn't prove that he didn't write the diary.
Nick stopped by the Restless Style office and gave Phyllis a special anniversary gift. He wanted to spend some romantic time with her, but she was busy. She agreed to give him five or 10 minutes. They were interrupted by a call from Sharon, who wanted to talk to Nick about Noah's trip to Paris. He explained he couldn't chat; she wished him a happy anniversary and hung up.
Jill was upset when Katherine forgot about her doctor's appointment. She was even more upset when Kay revealed that she'd driven herself. Kay didn't think anything was wrong with her and accused Jill of trying to put her in a home. Jill assured her that she wasn't trying to separate Kay from her family. Kay admitted that having "senior moments" was frightening. Jill gently encouraged her mom to see a doctor. Jill revealed that she'd made
another appointment for her that day and was going to drive Kay herself. After Jill left for a meeting, someone called Kay. Later, Kay went out and Jill didn't know where she was.
Victoria and Nikki worried about how Victor was doing. Vicky wished he'd come home, but Nikki thought he was better off being on the run since the authorities were after him. Meanwhile, Heather eavesdropped on them via a bug. Meanwhile, Nick found a bug in his and Phyllis's home and rushed to warn Nikki.... Phyllis gorged on pastries and moaned in a sexual way about "getting some sugar," as a disgusted Heather and the authorities listened.
Heather had them turn off the Phyllis/Nick bug.... Nikki and Nick talked outside of the Ranch. Nick revealed that he had a plan to continue throwing off the authorities. He then returned home with Nikki; he and Phyllis staged a conversation with Nikki where Nikki told Nick that he needed to meet Victor in Buenos Aires.... Victoria admitted to Sharon that she didn't think Victor cared whether he was hurting his family. She blamed herself for him
leaving since she'd pushed for him getting a psych evaluation. Sharon assured her that she did the right thing.... Victor prayed in a church.... Heather suspected that something was amiss with the Newmans because she found it hard to believe that Victor would suddenly ask for help.... Nick informed Sharon that he was leaving town and wasn't sure when he'd be returning. First, she had him sign Noah's permission slip for his school's Paris trip. She noted that both of them had to sign it. Really? What about the kids in Noah's class who come from single-parent homes, Noah's school?
Anyway, Sharon admitted that she had fears about Noah being far from her.... Victoria came to the Newman Ranch and Nikki held up a sign, warning her that the home was bugged. Nikki then opened a box that had arrived from France. It was full of things salvaged from the chateau fire., including a Faberge egg. They wondered what the significance was... In the church, Victor went into the confessional and began to confess his sins.
