ALL MY CHILDREN Interview

— ABC

Q&A With Michael B. Jordan (Reggie, AMC)

— By Joe Diliberto

Michael B. Jordan first captured the attention of ALL MY CHILDREN fans not for his killer jump shot, but because they thought his character, Reggie, might be a killer. But Reggie proved popular with fans, and eventually he was adopted by Jackson Montgomery, making him an integral part of one of Pine Valley's most influential families. In addition to mad skills as an actor, Jordan also shares a love of basketball with his slightly more famous namesake.

Soap Opera Weekly: With your name and penchant for basketball, is there a lot of confusion with that other guy?
Michael B. Jordan: There's a lot of confusion. That's why I had to put Michael B. Jordan whenever [my name] appears on credits, because he's already listed in [the Screen Actors Guild], from when he did Space Jam. So I had to change my name. It's cool, though. One time, they sent me one of his checks. It was like $20,000. Then they sent me one of his bills, and I kind of wanted to send that one back. I wish I would have kept the check, not the bill. I sent everything back.

Weekly: Have you ever met Michael?
Jordan: No, I haven't. I would like to.

Weekly: Are you surprised that your character has taken off with AMC fans?
Jordan: I'm surprised I'm getting so much publicity. Me, I'm a perfectionist. I nitpick myself and my acting. I think they like the bad character, who's kind of edgy with a good heart. He has a good side. They like when I pick on Erica, when I give Erica a hard time. I like that they have warmed up to me.

Weekly: How did you get the part?
Jordan: I auditioned. They cast somebody else, but something happened and they called me in and I auditioned again and I got it. At first it was a recurring role, a couple of episodes. Then they asked me to [go on] contract. It was a big step, because I want to go to college. Four years is good, it's a job. It's a paycheck.

Weekly: You're 16. What do you want to study when you eventually go to college?
Jordan: I want to be in business and marketing. I want to go to a technical university, something not too far, so I can commute back and forth to New York.
