1996: Janet was arrested for Laurel's murder. By the time she was freed (the real culprit, Jason, was nabbed), Pierce had moved on to Brooke, making Ms. English the new target of Janet's wrath. Not only had Brooke stolen Pierce, in Janet's warped view, but she'd also stolen Laura, whom Brooke ended up adopting. To get revenge, Janet dipped into her tried-and-true playbook and schemed to take over Brooke's life, but Trevor caught on and stopped her.... Janet teamed up with Erica and Skye to bring down nefarious Dr. Jonathan Kinder.

1997: Amanda found out about Janet's criminal past and fell into the very well that Janet had once tossed Natalie. Janet came after her, but ended up falling into the well herself; Trevor rescued them. Shortly after this trauma was behind her, Amanda discovered that Janet was her birth mother. Amanda had a bad reaction at first, but eventually softened and even began calling Janet "Mommy." Trevor and Janet began a new chapter in their relationship, as well, but Tim did not take kindly to the burgeoning romance between them and did his best to sabotage it.

1998: Trevor proposed to Janet, but she said no in the hopes that Tim, who had run away, would return if she kept her distance from the Dillons. To deter Trevor's persistent attempts to change her mind, Janet hired an actor named Albert to pretend to be her husband, Axel, and staged an elaborate, fake wedding to him — while Trevor, who had found out what was really going on, planned a real wedding, with Tim's blessing. Janet finally 'fessed up to Trevor and they tied the knot at long last after Natalie's ghost appeared to give her blessing.

1999: Sophie, Janet's ruthless former cell mate, came to town and threatened to kill Trevor and Amanda unless Janet ponied up some cash. Janet complied, but Sophie pressed for more money, so a freaked-out Janet decided to take care of Sophie once and for all and lured her to an abandoned warehouse. Sophie fought back, though, and attacked Janet, who ended up killing Sophie in self-defense. Trevor showed up and when the cops came. Trevor took responsibility for the crime, but he fled town before he could be thrown in jail.

2000: Trevor's name was eventually cleared and he returned to Pine Valley to collect his wife and daughter. The Dillons left to begin a new life in Colorado.
