ALL MY CHILDREN Timeline

Blasts From The Past

— By Mara Levinsky

Get ready for the January returns of AMC's Angie and Jesse with this indispensible timeline, and check out the 12/25 Digest for the inside scoop on the comebacks of actors Debbi Morgan and Darnell Williams!

1981

Opposites Attract: Jesse (Darnell Williams) and Angie (Debbi Morgan) were drawn together from the start.
— ABC

Rough-and-tumble Jesse Hubbard was spending most of his time hanging out at Foxy's when he became acquainted with good girl Jenny Gardner. They formed a fast friendship and Jenny got Jesse to agree to resume his studies. Jesse's uncle, Frank Grant, invited him to come live with him and Jesse accepted, only to nearly burn down the house with a lit cigarette.

1982

Almost Paradise: Liza's (Marcy Walker) obsession with Greg (Laurence Lau) led to trouble for Jesse.
— ABC

Frank, a doctor, introduced Jesse to Angie Baxter, a fresh-faced aspiring physician from a well-to-do family who was juggling med school and candy-striping duties. Though their wildly different backgrounds created tension, they shared an immediate connection and attraction and soon began dating. Her family, especially her father, Les, disapproved of the match. Jesse, meanwhile, was rather upset with Liza Colby for making life difficult for Jenny. (Jenny, you see, was with Greg Nelson, the object of Liza's affections.) When Jesse threatened to expose Liza's manipulations, Liza falsely accused Jesse of rape, so he fled to New York, where Jenny was, and got there in time to save Jenny from a sleazy porn producer. Jesse headed back to Pine Valley and Silver Kane turned him in to the cops. Jesse's trial prompted Jenny to return home and Jesse was exonerated. He resumed his relationship with Angie and was crushed when a stroke claimed Frank's life.

1983

Young And In Love: Angie and Jesse in a rare moment of happiness.
— ABC

Angie and Jesse were very much in love, but she refused to consummate their relationship out of wedlock. Jesse proposed; they eloped and became lovers. Angie was terrified to reveal her marriage to her parents and panicked when she discovered that she was pregnant. Due to a misunderstanding with Jesse, she decided to seek a divorce without telling him about the baby. Jesse was stung when Angie announced that she wanted out of their union. When Jesse uncovered the truth, he told Angie he wanted to raise their child together — but Les had already arranged for the baby, a boy, to be adopted. Working together, Angie and Jesse tracked down their son and kidnapped him, hiding out in Sea City. Jesse named the baby Frank, to honor his late uncle, and the couple exchanged vows again.

1984

Summer In The City: Jenny (Kim Delaney) and Jesse had a big city adventure.
— ABC

The kidnapping charges against the Hubbards were dropped and the young parents struggled to stay afloat financially. Jesse got entangled with a shady loan shark and was devastated by the death of Jenny. Jesse pursued a musical career and became duet partners with Yvonne Caldwell.

1985

Boy Meets World: Pat (Lee Chamberlain) supported Angie when she welcomed son Frank.
— ABC

Jesse landed in Yvonne's bed. Jesse's half brother, Eugene, put more strain on his marriage as Eugene stole from the hospital and pinned the crime on Jesse. Jesse managed to prove his innocence — and Eugene's guilt — and so impressed the Pine Valley Police Department that they offered him a job. Angie, meanwhile, was having troubles of her own: She was being sexually harrassed by one of her med school professors, Dr. Voight. Angie bravely reported his behavior to hospital higher-ups and Voight was canned. And in time, Angie forgave Jesse for cheating on her.

1986

The couple and young Frank enjoyed a rare respite from domestic turbulence.

1987

Out Of Tune: Jesse's dalliance with singing partner Yvonne (Vanessa Bell Calloway) was a dark time in the Hubbard marriage.
— ABC

Yvonne returned to Pine Valley with child and claimed that Jesse was the father. Jesse swore it wasn't so (it wasn't) and Angie believed him. Yvonne decided to give her child to an illegal baby-selling ring and Jesse went undercover to bring down the outfit, teaming up with Travis Montgomery. Jesse was stunned when he learned that the evil mastermind at the head of the operation, Mr. Big, was actually his own father-in-law, Les. Les held a gun on Jesse and they struggled over the firearm just as Angie arrived on the scene. As the men scuffled, Les fell to his death. Jesse was hailed a hero, but Angie couldn't view him that way. In fact, she kicked him out of the house. In other news, Angie (by now a doctor) grew close to one of her patients, Cindy, and had to give her a terrible diagnosis: She had AIDS. Angie turned to Jesse for support.

1988

All Together Now: The last family portrait of Angie, Jesse and Frankie Hubbard (Z. Wright).
— ABC

Angie poured her heart and soul into Cindy's care. A group of bigots set fire to the Hubbard home in their disgusting efforts to drive Cindy out of town. Jesse and Angie held strong in the face of this crisis, but their togetherness was tragically short-lived: He was fatally shot while on duty. Before he died, Jesse managed to tell Angie he loved her one last time.

1989

Gone Too Soon: Angie was heartbroken when Cindy (Ellen Wheeler) succumbed to AIDS.
— ABC

Grief-stricken by the loss of Jesse and the death of Cindy, Angie found solace in the arms of her colleague, Cliff Warner.

1990

Doc Holiday: Angie's relationship with fellow doctor Cliff (Peter Bergman) wasn't built to last.
— ABC

Angie ended her engagement to Cliff so that he could reunite with ex-wife Nina. She resisted the come-ons of physical therapist Cal Cummings, who then took up with her mom, but he dumped Pat when Angie decided to give him a chance. Angie felt guilty for Pat's dashed hopes but got over it ... only to find herself drawn to another fella, cop Derek Frye.

1991

Theory Of Relativity: Angie (then-Saundra Quarterman) and Pat both had eyes for Cal (Count Stovall).
— ANN LIMONGELLO/ABC

Angie chose Derek over Cal, but the relationship didn't last because Angie came to the conclusion that she had never really gotten over Jesse. She moved to California with her son.

1993

Angie settled in LOVING's Corinth with Frank, who briefly became mixed up in a gang. Pine Valley was just a stone's throw away, but it carried too many painful memories of lost love Jesse for Angie.

1994

When a tornado hit Pine Valley, Tad was rendered comatose. He received a visit from Jesse's spirit, who urged him to fight to survive. Tad did. Angie, meanwhile, fell in love with Charles Harrison. She suffered from aplastic anemia, a life-threatening illness, but was saved by a bone marrow donation.

1995

Quick Fix: Angie dumped Charles (Geoffrey Ewing) not long after they married.
— DONNA SVENNEVIK/ABC

Angie got engaged to Charles, but her eye roved to mysterious newcomer Jacob Foster, who was the spitting image of Jesse. Jacob and Charles worked together to nab a rogue FBI agent who had come after Jacob (he'd witnessed a mob killing). Angie tied the knot with Charles but, recognizing that she had fallen in love with Jacob, divorced him. She and Jacob moved to New York (and THE CITY).

1996

(Big) Apple Pickers: Angie, Jacob (Williams again) and Frank (Alimi Ballard) settled in New York City.
— ANN LIMONGELLO/ABC

Angie opened a free clinic and married Jacob.

1997

Everything's Jake: Angie wed Jacob in 1996.
— ANN LIMONGELLO/ABC

Angie and Jacob adopted a baby girl, Cassandra.

2001

Spiritual Guidance: Jesse and Tad (Michael E. Knight) in 2001.
— LORENZO BEVILAQUA/ABC

Jesse's spirit returned to Pine Valley to help Gillian finish up her worldly business and to provide counsel to Tad.

2002

Jesse and Angie's little boy, Frank, returned all grown up and followed in Angie's footsteps by practicing medicine at Pine Valley Hospital. He didn't remain in town long, but before he left, it was revealed that he had fathered a little boy, William, with Liza's half sister, Mia, who had given the baby up for adoption without telling Frank that she was expecting.
