Babs Blabs

— By Tonya Lensch

Do you think they need to bring in a new love interest for Barbara? No one on the canvas seems to be the right fit for her now.
A.M., New York
I think so. He would have to be a strong man — younger, preferably (laughs). Barbara always seems to be attracted to men who turn out to be cons. Clearly she has a real problem in that area, leaning toward men who are not right for her.

How did starring in Hello, Dolly! change you as an actress?
Cindy, Ankeny, Iowa
It's going back to my roots after so many years off doing my day job and being a mom. It has reawakened all those early yearnings that I had as a young actress [about] what I set out to do. Now, to step in and do roles that I never thought would come my way, is humbling and so exciting. And there's some more stuff coming up, too, that I can’t talk about yet!

What is the hardest part about doing love scenes on a soap opera?
Erin Mays
Just making sure that nothing gets exposed. I'm happy to say it's been a while since I've done one. I don't miss them at all.

What is it like seeing husband Mark (Pinter; ex-Grant, ANOTHER WORLD, ex-Roger, ALL MY CHILDREN) and daughter Kelsey in The Sound of Music in Syracuse, N.Y.?
D.M., Cortlandt, N.Y.
It's been fun. We were up there opening weekend, and they got a foot and a half of snow! It was an adventure getting there and getting home. Morgan and Georgia were funny, because they've never seen their dad interact with any other actress that he's had to kiss. And, of course, Captain von Trapp and Maria get married in the show. After the first kissing scene, Morgan, who is almost 16, said, "Well, that was a little awkward." And Georgia said, "It sure was." And I said, "What are you talking about?" And they said, "Well, you are right here."
