While his character reveled in the heroism of being a firefighter (until his blindness), THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL's Lorenzo Lamas (Hector) did his own good deed by lending his time and celebrity to a cause that has dropped off the radar of some Americans: Hurricane Katrina relief. Lamas made an appearance in Las Vegas to support Corp of Compassion, and took some time to recall an adventure from this past spring.

Soap Opera Weekly: Tell us about Corp of Compassion.
Lorenzo Lamas: It's an organization that raises money for Katrina relief for the displaced people who moved to Las Vegas. There are about 600-800 of these people. They provide backpacks for kids with a snack every day when they go to school. They help find the moms and dads jobs. There's a warehouse filled with everything from clothing to toys to books — donated items from the Las Vegas area that help these people who are still trying to put their lives back together.

Weekly: What did you do to help out?
Lamas: I was there on a bike show weekend, with motorcycle-related [events]. Corp of Compassion had a booth there and sponsored a concert that featured Branscombe Richmond, my co-star from RENEGADE. I did an appearance and did some television spots to get the word out. My co-star from CELEBRITY DAREDEVILS, Angie Everhart, was there. [On that show,] my stunt was a motorcycle jump. I did a ramp-to-ramp jump.

Weekly: You rode in RENEGADE and often do your own stunts, right?
Lamas: Yeah. I called my mom about an hour before doing the stunt. She said, "Lorenzo, you can't do this." I said, "Mom, I can. I rehearsed and I'm good to go." I promised her I wouldn't do any more of that stuff. But it was a great chance to work with some of the best stunt people in the business. I worked directly with Robby Knievel's stunt coordinator. Robby is Evel's son and he does these things every day.

Weekly: So would you do it again?
Lamas: I probably would, if I were asked. It was a lot of fun. There's a technique. You learn the skill and then you're confident. It started to rain about half an hour prior to the jump. There were some concerns about traction and being able to land. But it was cool, and I did it!
