BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL Features
Growing A Backbone— By Stacy China Thorne Forrester Prior to 2004, there was nothing bold about B&B's Thorne. He tolerated second-class treatment from his parents, he bowed down to Ridge in every circumstance, and he seemed destined to toil away indefinitely in a windowless office at Forrester Creations. An unlikely one-night stand with Darla Einstein was the catalyst for changing all that, however. Once Macy learned of his indiscretion and left him for good, Thorne was free to get to know the mother of his child — and in turn, he learned a lot about himself. The very things he encouraged Darla to overcome — her low self-esteem, her feelings of being second best — were the same issues he'd never dealt with in his own life. By wanting to be a positive example for her, Thorne found himself walking taller and shooting straighter. He eventually had the nerve to ask for his rightful place at Forrester, and leave the company when he didn't get it. Then he took over a sputtering Spectra Fashions and transformed it into the chic, respectable (not to mention profitable) Spectra Couture, thereby sticking it to every family member who never thought he could make it outside of the family business. Thorne proved to himself and his family that nice guys can indeed finish first — and get the girl of their dreams.
Darla Einstein Forrester The Spectras always came first with Darla — first her boss, Sally, then Sally's daughter, Macy. She didn't take a good look at herself until she became pregnant with Thorne's child. After choosing to become a single mother (after seriously considering an abortion), Darla was ready to go it alone. Once Macy left Thorne, however, she found a kindred spirit in the man who she'd always assumed had it all. She and Thorne shared a lot of similar emotions, and that gave her motivation to help both him and herself. For the first time, Darla walked tall and made no apologies. And she stood her ground when Brooke and Ridge tried to intimidate her into keeping her opinions to herself. Even after (accidentally) giving Spectra Forrester's Ingenue line, she didn't let the family's dismay get her down for long. Darla's still loveable, but she's replaced her spaciness with strength.
