Lorenzo Lamas - Rescue Me

— By Deanna Barnert

Soap Opera Weekly: Do you agree with the fans that like Brooke with Hector?
Lorenzo Lamas:: I like the idea of being with Brooke. Our scenes together went really well and in shows coming up, we have more scenes together [in which] Hector and Brooke are sharing feelings. I could see it happening. He likes her, Sam's gone and a man's a man! But I'm telling you, from week to week, it's all news to me. I just read the scripts like you all watch the show and I'm surprised by what I read.

Weekly: Hector's such an upstanding guy. What would you think if he fell in with the wrong woman?
Lamas: I don't mind if he gets duped or heartbroken. That's fine, as long as his heart's in the right place to begin with.

Weekly: Do you enjoy playing the in-house hero who's on the scene for every tragedy?
Lamas: I look forward to the action scenes the most. I love them. That's my bag. I love when it's a delicate life moment. Even coming upon the car when Stephanie crashed, I got my heart going and was right in there. Last year, when Amber's apartment burned down, that was just awesome. I want to do more of those. They're fun for me to do and fun for the audience to watch.

Weekly: What are the hardest scenes for you to do?
Lamas: The hardest scenes are the emotional scenes, like the one's I had last year with Sydney (Penny, Julia, AMC, ex-Sam, B&B) and Kayla (Ewell, Caitlin). They're the hardest because I get involved emotionally. I'm totally in them, because you have to tell the truth on camera. It's tiring. At the end of the day, I'm wiped out. Memorizing all the dialogue is a challenge for me too, because I'm coming from a whole different type of television where we do one show in five days.

Weekly: That's still hard for you?
Lamas: I'm still making the adjustment, because it started off gangbusters, where I was learning 20-30 pages a day, but over the last few months it's been very light. I'll have to gear back into it again soon. Memorizing all that dialogue is scary, but the brain is a muscle and the more you use it, the better it gets.

Weekly: Who are you still looking forward to working with?
Lamas: I've worked with hardly anybody, except at fashion shows, funerals and weddings. I can count the characters on one hand: I've had scenes with Brooke, Sam, Caitlin, Jack and Ridge. That's about it. I haven't had any real scenes with Stephanie, Eric or Taylor. We really have gifted actors here and I'd like to work with every one.
