BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL Interview

Two years after marrying in Hawaii, Harmon and wife DeAnna welcomed their first child together.

Kidding Around

— By Devin Owens

On May 10, Winsor Harmon (Thorne, BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL) and his wife, DeAnna, welcomed their first child, Winsor Harmon IV. Soap Opera Digest caught up with the proud papa to see how fatherhood was going.

Soap Opera Digest: So, how is this daddy thing so far?
Winsor Harmon: Great. I'm surprised how calm I am at being a new dad. It's still wild, but I'm not as nervous as I thought I'd be. You go to the hospital and they suddenly hand you a baby; then, it's, "Bye," but you're going, "Hey, where's the manual?" That's when it sinks in that you are on your own. I thought I was going to freak out, but it's been going really smoothly.

Digest: Any other surprises?
Harmon: The lack of sleep. I always heard about that, but you don't understand until it happens to you. I had just gotten over my caffeine addiction, too, but I'm definitely back to drinking coffee. I'm also surprised by the amount of diapers he goes through. As soon as we know his diaper is wet, off it comes. We're doing disposable diapers, so we have quite a stockpile.

Digest: Are you using a nanny or a nurse?
Harmon: No. We do everything ourselves. I am not comfortable about leaving him with anybody. He's either with me or my wife. I haven't been working a lot lately, so I get to be with him, which has been great.

Digest: Who does he look like?
Harmon: He has blonde hair and blue eyes, so he looks like his old man all the way. My wife is like, "I'm the one who carried this child for nine months and he has nothing of me." It's like looking at my own little Mini Me.

Digest: Do you think he will be a football player like you were?
Harmon: I wouldn't be surprised. You can really tell he's all boy. He's this little muscular thing. Both his mother and I both have broad shoulders, so he certainly looks like he's built for football. He has these big round shoulders and looks like a little weight lifter. I'm already putting him in little muscle shirts.

Digest: What kind of baby products are you using?
Harmon: We use everything that's unscented. We sterilize everything, and nothing stays in the refrigerator for more than 24 hours. He's going to be healthy. I'm on a macrobiotic diet, but I'm not going to go that overboard. We just make sure that everything he eats is as chemical-free and natural as we can find.

Digest: Because you're both Winsor, do you have a nickname for him?
Harmon: We're calling him Sonny. That was actually my nickname because my father was Winsor II, but everybody calls me Winsor now.
