Jacqueline, a buyer for Fenmore's department store, is Nick's mother and one of Massimo's former lovers from his post-Stephanie days. She believed Massimo didn't want her or their son, so she claimed that Nick belonged to her husband, Mr. Payne. After Nick's accident, Jackie came to Los Angeles, and although she got involved with Eric, before long she ended up back with Massimo. The two married, but Jackie grew increasingly attracted to the younger Deacon. When she realized Nick was in love with Brooke, she was overjoyed that Brooke was pregnant. When she learned that the initial paternity test wasn't conclusive, she convinced Deacon to order another test. While waiting for the test results, Jackie got drunk and had sex with Deacon. They continued their affair for months, long after Deacon told her the paternity test confirmed Nick as the father.

On the eve of the child's birth, Deacon admitted to Jackie that the paternity test clearly indicated Ridge as the father, not Nick, and that Deacon lied to make Jackie happy. A mortified Jackie confessed all to Nick and Massimo, and Mass kicked Jackie out in disgust. Jackie turned to Deacon for support and resumed their relationship. Just as they were beginning to prepare for a future together after Jackie's divorce, Massimo shocked her by saying he wanted her back. When Nick, who hadn't spoken to Jackie since the paternity mess, chose to forgive her as well, Jackie told Deacon goodbye and moved back in with Massimo (since he never filed the papers, Mass was still her legal husband). Their reunion was short-lived, however; Massimo overheard Deacon and Jackie talking about their affair and lashed out at both of them. While confronting Jackie he had a massive stroke. Jackie felt a colossal amount of guilt, and blamed herself for Mass' condition.
