Baby Talk With Kari Wuhrer

— By Robert Schork

Soap Opera Weekly: Was this a planned pregnancy or a surprise?
Kari Wuhrer: I'm 38 years old. I want a big family. It's now or never — and the good thing about daytime was that it's the only acting gig where you can have your family and keep your job. Of course, they can't fire you for getting pregnant on any acting job, but you can't very well audition for the sexpot in a film when you're seven months pregnant. I've tried, but it doesn't work (laughs)!

Weekly: Are you hoping for a boy or a girl?
Wuhrer: I'm hoping for a healthy child either way. I'm glad I had my boy first, and whether he gets a brother or a sister, it's of no preference. I just want a healthy baby. My husband (producer James Scura) is an incredible help. Thank God for him. He's like a dream.

Weekly: Have you picked out possible names?
Wuhrer: I know nothin'! You're getting nothing out of me. We haven't even gotten close yet.

Weekly: Well, your son, Enzo, has a great name. Is it a family name?
Wuhrer: No. I loved that name for years. He was made in Italy, so we knew we wanted to find a good Italian name. It was the only one that I wanted. Luckily, my husband agreed. When he came out, he was such an Enzo. It just suits him.

Weekly: Were you on vacation in Italy?
Wuhrer: I was shooting a movie in Romania. I did some sequels to The Prophecy movies [The Prophecy: Uprising and The Prophecy: Forsaken, both 2005] for Dimension Films, and I had also done [Hellraiser: Deader (2005)] for them, so I spent a lot of time in Bucharest. We were living in New York City at the time, and it was my birthday, so my husband set up a trip for us. I happened to have four days off, and we met in Venice. It was very romantic. It was my birthday, and he proposed.

Weekly: Your husband sounds like quite the romantic guy!
Wuhrer: Well...okay, I'll say 'yes.'

Weekly: Once he had you, he sort of dropped the romance?
Wuhrer: We'll always have Venice (laughs)!
