GENERAL HOSPITAL Interview
Scott Reeves: The Doctor is In!
— By Joe Diliberto
In only a few weeks, Scott Reeves has made the role of GENERAL HOSPITAL's Steven Webber his own. The newest Steve is following in the footsteps of his legendary namesake, Steve Hardy, by running General Hospital as chief of staff. Reeves (ex-Jake, DAYS; ex-Ryan, Y&R) took some time to make the rounds with us.

Soap Opera Weekly: Steve's management style has been somewhat low-key; he didn't make a lot of changes, right?
Scott Reeves: No. He comes in, lays low and takes notes, assessing the entire operation. He sees the dynamics [of] how the doctors interact with each other and the patients. He doesn't want to come in and play hardball. He definitely takes into account that this place has been around for quite a while. His grandfather established quite a bit of it. But he will stand up, if need be. He will step in.
Weekly: Steve being Elizabeth's confidant is something new, isn't it?
Reeves: Yep, it's a fairly new relationship. This character was in town probably five years ago, and he's definitely taken a different turn since he's been gone. I think, actually, he and his sister have always had that type of relationship — they just haven't seen each other in a few years. But they have had it since they were little. He's always been kind of a father figure to his sister.
Weekly: How are you getting along with Rebecca Herbst (Liz)?
Reeves: I love Rebecca to death. She is one of my favorites. I've known Rebecca for quite a few years. We had immediate chemistry, because we did have a rapport before I came on the show. So it's been really such a great deal of fun to work with a great friend.
Weekly: Did you look at the work of the last Steve (Shaun Benson, 2004-'05)?
Reeves: You know, I didn't. I didn't want to come in with any kind of preconceived notions. I didn't want anything to influence my choices. I wanted to come in with a fresh perspective.

You neglected to ask about the changes to the character of Steven Lars Webber. Another rewrite by Guza and company. Suddenly, he is a trauma surgeon rather than his previous speciality. Maybe he should have done, at least, a bit of research on what the character was doing last visit. When GH needs more diversity in the cast, they cast the same type of actor and character. At least, the previous COS added some diversity to the cast. Also, the casting of Lisa missed another opportunity to diversify the cast. It would have been interesting for Patrick Drake to have a former girlfriend with some ethnicity.

So ready to see Steve on contract! I love his addition to the show, and the fact that Elizabeth finally has some family! I was a Liason fan, and knew that Scott played some music at one or a few of their events b/c he's Steve Burton's BFF. Knowing that Becky and Scott already had a friendship outside GH is what had me buying into that chemistry they so very much have with eachother. They are obviously comfortable together, and would love for Elizabeth's character to maybe go to med school. Dr. Elizabeth Webber would be sexy in a white doctor's jacket working alongside her brother!! Hope we get to see a love interest for Dr. Steve Webber soon!!
