GH's Billy Warlock Treads the Boards in NYC

— By Gabrielle Winkel

He's no longer on GH. He's no longer in Los Angeles. He's changed agents. He and his fiancee Tolan Clark have put things on hold (though Warlock didn't want to comment on that directly). And he's moved everything to New York City. "It has been an amazing journey. It has been very difficult, very emotional. I had a wonderful relationship that was going through some changes, who knows ultimately where we will end up. I had to sell my home, I am changing my career, moving to a place where I have been many times, but it is not home."

Though Warlock had been steadily working on Los Angeles-based television shows since 1982 — including DAYS OF OUR LIVES (Frankie), BAYWATCH (Eddie) and GH — he couldn't resist the lure of live theater and trying his hand at life in the Big Apple. "When I was done with GENERAL HOSPITAL, that was part of the plan, to move to New York and to take my career in a different direction. My new agent liked what I had to say and I liked what he had to say, so we hooked up. I went back to L.A. and I was going to hang out there during pilot season. He called me and said, 'Listen, I have got an opportunity to get you in on a play at the Public' which is the greatest off-Broadway theater in town. He said, 'Would you want to go after it?' I said, 'Sure!' " Warlock read the script and got on board.

The play is a revival of Larry Kramer's landmark AIDS drama The Normal Heart. Though Warlock wasn't physically right for the first role he read for, they asked him to read for another part, Felix Turner, the love interest of the lead character, Ned Weeks, played by Raul Esparza. "They told me on a Tuesday and 18 days later, here I was doing this play. It has been an amazing time ... crazy!"

The Normal Heart also stars Mark Dobies (Daniel, ONE LIFE TO LIVE). For tickets call 212-239-6200 or visit www.telecharge.com.
