Weaving a Tangled Webber

— By Heather Filemyr

1976
Heather Grant (then Georganne LaPiere, half sister of pop icon Cher) arrived in Port Charles and landed a job as nanny to Diana and Peter Taylor's daughter, Martha, using a forged letter of recommendation. Heather hoped the position would help her land a rich husband, someone like Dr. Jeff Webber. To separate Dr. Webber from his wife Monica, Heather anonymously sent Jeff a letter that Monica had saved from a former lover — his brother Rick. Heather saw her opportunity and she and Jeff began a "no strings" sexual relationship. Heather discovered that she was pregnant with Jeff's baby shortly before he attempted suicide. Jeff survived a life-saving operation.

1977
Mary O'Brien took over the role. Jeff asked Heather to give their baby to him for him and Monica to raise. Heather refused and faked a suicide attempt to win him over to no avail. Heather plotted to sell the baby to the Taylors for $10,000 so that she could start a new life. Monica asked for a divorce from Jeff and, hurt by the rejection, Jeff asked Heather to marry him. Before they could wed, Heather's ex, Larry Joe, revealed her schemes and Jeff took back his offer. After giving birth to a son, Steven Lars, Heather took off for New York City with $500 of Jeff's money hoping to begin a modeling career. In an attempt to raise money for a career in Hollywood, Heather agreed to the illegal adoption with the Taylors, but after her shady lawyer took his cut, she was left with only $1800. Jeff showed up in New York, hoping to bring Heather and the baby back to Port Charles, but Heather lied and told him that the baby had died. Jeff proposed anyway and Heather accepted.

1978
One of Jeff's patients, Lana Holbrook, attempted to kill Heather. Heather and her son, whom the Taylors called P.J., grew closer. Heather and Jeff wed but their happiness was threatened when mobster Cal Jamison revealed that Steven Lars hadn't died in New York. After finding a death certificate for Steven Lars, Jeff accepted that his son was truly dead.
