Coming In On Q

— By Colleen Cusick

1977
Dr. Alan Quartermaine (heir to ELQ Enterprises) arrived at General Hospital and immediately tangled with Dr. Monica Webber.

1978
Alan realized he couldn't leave Port Charles as planned and confessed his love to Monica. The rest of the wealthy Quartermaine family - his crusty father Edward, sweet mother Lila, and spoiled sister Tracy - joined him. Alan married Monica.

1979
Monica gave birth to Alan, Jr. (A.J.). Tracy married DA Mitch Williams but they soon divorced. Tracy tried to prove that A.J. was Rick's son from his secret affair with Monica, so her own son Ned would be the sole heir to the Quartermaine millions.

1980
Alan tried to kill Monica and Rick three different times after he discovered their affair and thought that A.J. was Rick's son. Edward tricked Tracy into revealing her ruthlessness by faking a heart attack and watching her withhold his meds from him. He banished her from Port Charles. Monica and Alan decided to divorce. Alan learned A.J. was indeed his son and forced Monica to reconcile. Edward's niece, Alexandria Quartermaine, arrived in town.

1981
Alan had an affair with Susan Moore and she became pregnant. Alexandria joined forces with Tony Cassadine to steal the Ice Princess diamond. A.J. fell ill, bringing Monica and Alan closer together. Susan gave birth to Alan's son, Jason. Monica demanded sole custody of A.J.
