ONE LIFE TO LIVE Features

Never Trev

— By Lauren Flynn

In my three years as a Digest editor covering ONE LIFE TO LIVE, I have never had the pleasure of interviewing Trevor St. John (Todd). But whenever I ask newcomers who they'd most like to work with, the answer is a resounding St. John. From his knack for improv to his comedic timing, he is often praised by co-stars new and old. Here, Trev, is what they're staying about you.

Trevor St. John Bree Williamson
Play Nice: St. John manages to make Bree Williamson (Jessica) crack up on set.
— Steven Bergman

"Trevor makes me laugh all the time and I can't hold it in. Once I got in trouble because we had to tape the scene like the four times, because Trevor kept doing this one thing that made me laugh so hard. He had to turn me around really fast and go, 'What'd you do?!' and every time I just could not hold it together and then Frank [Valentini, executive producer] finally came on the speaker and was like, 'Kristen, stop laughing!' and then afterward he said, 'I'm sorry, I just thought that would scare you and not make you laugh,' and it worked! Bree [Williamson, Jessica] laughs a lot with Trevor, too."
Kristen Alderson (Starr), September 2008

"He's a lot of fun to play with. He doesn't try to repeat something if it's been successful in the past; every time is the first time. How is working with him different from working with Roger [Howarth, ex-Todd]? There's something more boyish about Trevor. There's something a little younger, maybe a little more goofy. I mean, Roger was playful, but in a different way. I think the thing about Todd that sort of infects whatever actor plays him is this holding back of himself, which is very attractive to Téa."
Florencia Lozano (Téa), November 2008

"I think Trevor St. John should get an Emmy nomination, but he unfortunately took himself out of the running. I enjoy his work; I think he's very organic and spontaneous and very consistent."
Kamar de los Reyes (ex-Antonio), March 2008

"Trevor and I have not shared any scenes together. We were talking about that yesterday. We shot our first scene and we didn't even have lines together, but we sat next to each other at the funeral we were shooting and I turned to him in the middle of the scene and I said, 'I'm Jared,' and he said, 'I'm Todd.' It's not going to be on camera — the cameras weren't on us — but we've become friends and we realized we've never worked together, and I think Jared and Todd should definitely butt heads. I know he always makes interesting choices and I think the world of him as an actor."
John Brotherton (Jared), June 2008

I think he's a brilliant actor. He makes the most interesting choices and he's actually one of the actors I've been studying since I've been there. He has a carefree mentality while he acts but he's doing the work. It's obvious he knows what he's doing."
Brandon Buddy (Cole), August 2007

Trevor St. John Kamar de los Reyes BethAnn Bonner
Whole Lotta Love: OLTL's Trevor St. John (Todd) receives praise from co-stars past and present, including Kamar de los Reyes (ex-Antonio, r.) and BethAnn Bonner (ex-Talia).
— Steven Bergman

"I think they have an idea of what they want to do with my character, but they're testing chemistry with other actors. I had some good scenes with Trevor a couple weeks ago. It wasn't even written — it's just what you bring to the table — and we just changed the blocking a little bit. When it airs, you might know what I'm talking about, but I don't think they'll go down that direction, although I wouldn't mind working with him [laughs]."
Farah Fath (Gigi), November 2007

"I was testing with Trevor St. John and at one point in the script, I touched him, and for somebody [Marty] who hates him that much to break the physical boundary, he was kind of shocked that he lost where he was in the scene and I was like, 'Oh, yeah.' I think he's so beautiful and awesome on the show and I was intimidated. So Trevor was in the rehearsal hall downstairs waiting to go in to blocking, and I was like, 'Hi, my name's BethAnn,' and he was like, 'Trevor.' And I was like, 'Will you run these lines with me?' I knew them inside and out but it was him, and I got through a line and started laughing and acting like a total dork. And because I did that, when I got up to the floor, I felt more like equals and I got over it."
BethAnn Bonner (ex-Talia), September 2007, on meeting St. John during her screen test for Marty

"I was shocked that Trevor St. John wasn't nominated [for a Daytime Emmy]. Absolutely floored that he wasn't nominated! I just think that he is the show, so that's very odd ... it almost ruined my nomination."
Dan Gauthier (ex-Kevin), May 2007

I'm sure he's(TSJ) a nice guy in RL but that doesn't mean he knows how to play Todd.

I love that the actors he works respect his talent and him. They weren't just talking about how he is a nice guy but his talent. Now if only he had a role good enough to play instead of Todd Manning

I wish we could see a little more of Trevor in Todd.the nastiness of Todd gets on my nerves sometimes.

Good for him! I however, do not care for his style of acting-always a smirk. He plays the character way too arrogant and punky for me.

I would be shocked if he was nominated! Bring back Roger Howarth! The imposter does not understand the character of Todd!

Trevor is an excellent actor and has made the role of Todd his. I have totally forgotten Roger what's his name. I have watched OLTL since it started and he makes the show.

Thanks for posting this article. It was a great read, and wonderful to hear all the nice comments Trevor's co-stars had to say about him. I love Trevor, and his portrayal of Todd. He's my reason for watching the show.

Thank you so much for doing this! I have been wanting to compile comments by Trevor's co-workers just like you've done here. It is nice to know that so many of them respect and admire his work--as well as the man! I'm glad that you included Florencia Lozano. I love TnT! Trevor IS SUPERB in the role of Todd Manning and he is the reason that I tune in to OLTL! TPTB need to sign him to a long term contract ASAP. Dan Gauthier put it best when he commented about Trevor and said that "...he is the show!" Please do a Part II to this feature as there are many other co-stars who could be included, among them the following: REG (ex-Evangeline), Shanelle Workman (ex-Sarah)the last actress who portrayed Paige, Josh C. (Hugh Hughes) HBS, JPL, Mark Lamura, Melissa Archer, and more! I'm still very upset that Trevor has not been awarded the Best Actor EMMY because he's earned it. To me, Trevor St. John IS without a doubt the BEST ACTOR ON DAYTIME! Thanks again for the article. I

TSJ should get his own sitcom. He would be good in comedy but he is not Todd.

I love Trevor St. John as Todd he is so cute. I thought Roger looked ugly anyway this guy is so hot and his scenes with Tea are even hotter.

I love the character of Todd and I love Trevor. The way he plays Todd is incredible: funny, a bit arrogant, a little crazy, yet somehow you can't help but love him. He just pulls you in... he is the main reason I watch. I mean I liked the former Todd but Trevor has made him my favorite character now and makes me go Rodger who??? Not only is his acting brilliant but he's so hot!!! And he doesn't put weird stipulations in his contract for no love scenes which you have to have in daytime. I hope Trevor sticks around for years to come... as long as he does OLTL definitely has an avid viewer in me.

Trevor is not only the best actor in daytime; he is one of the best actors in the world. Everything appears effortless to him, like LeBron James going up for a layup or Roger Federer hitting a forehand winner. He has mastered the art of acting, so much so that he doesn't even act anymore: he just does. He's capable of terrifying, riveting, humoring, and tantalizing viewers with his genius. Roger Howarth was a great actor, no doubt, but Trevor has transcended acting and has fully realized the character of Todd. I agree: Trevor is OLTL.

I think Trevor is the sexiest actor in daytime television. He has got the bad boy down pat. If he ever left the show, I dont think I would watch it anymore. That would be the ultimate meeting him in person.

Love Trevor St. John. I was a huge TNT fan during Roger Howarth's fantastic stint. I am absolutely amazed to say I like the current TNT as much or even better with TSJ and FL. Their chemistry is on fire!
