ONE LIFE TO LIVE Interview

Treadway is thrilled to be back with his OLTL castmates.
— Lisa Rose/SOAPnet

What's up, Doc?

Weekly: The ratings are up, so...
Treadway: I wouldn't want to be in these writers' and executive producers' shoes right now, because they have to make some seriously hard choices and decisions. I am sure that it wasn't an easy decision to get rid of somebody like Suzanne Rogers or Matt Ashford (ex-Jack; now OLTL's Stephen) on DAYS, and on our show the people that have been lost. But they are hard decisions that because the sign of the times they unfortunately need to made.

Weekly: And now you're working with Matt.
Treadway: Yeah, it's great. I have watched him for years over on DAYS. He is an awesome actor.

Weekly: What's the story with Nora?
Treadway: Troy is definitely a suspect. I don't know if Nora believes that it might be Troy or not, or if she is hoping that it is not Troy. This is Nora...being so good, and this being the man that she was once in love with, that would be tough for Nora to accept...that he is the serial killer. I think Nora has conflicting emotions. She has conflicting reasons for coming to visit Troy.

Weekly: I know the fans want to see you with Catherine Hickland again.
Treadway: With Lindsay? Well, I think I do have some scenes.... I would hope so. I love working with Catherine. Now she has got stuff with David Vickers, right? He is a great actor, Tuc Watkins. I would love to have scenes with him. Now let me ask you this: Would you rather see Troy as the good guy, or the darker Troy, like when he left?

Weekly: I think that it is always interesting to have somebody who is a little of both. Not the good doctor completely, but a real person, somebody who has this mental anguish and this history — and fights it. Not a cartoon criminal.
Treadway: Right. And not a cartoon hero either. I like the flawed aspect of Troy. I like the fact that they are trying to make him as humane as possible. If you are in an insane asylum, it is very easy to write the character as a one-dimensional bad guy. They are not doing that at all. It is a real challenge for me to to find the humanity, as well as that psychosis, the dark side of Troy and to try and weave both together. The writers have been doing a good job so far.

Weekly: I just hope you are not the serial killer. It is just hard to overcome that on daytime.
Treadway: Yeah, that is a tough one to fight back from.

Weekly: You can be a rapist, but I don't know about a serial killer.
Treadway: You can definitely do the rapist thing, but a Son-of-Sam- type of thing doesn't get him any love triangles. Hopefully not, but we will see what they have planned. Whatever they have planned, I am sure we will try to tell it as best as we possibly can. Hopefully it will be a good ride.
