OLTL Mortimer Alex
Mortimer and Alex (Thom Christopher and Tonja Walker)
— Sue Coflin

Cult Of Personalities

Carlo Hesser/Mortimer Bern (1992/1997)
In 1992, Alex Olanov (Tonja Walker) made over Carlo's look-alike, Mortimer (Thom Christopher), to be the spitting image of the "late" Carlo so he could help her control Carlo's empire. Mortimer then began acting like Carlo, even going so far as to become obsessed with Carlo's one-time flame, Renee. It was then revealed that he was actually Carlo's twin brother. He eventually got tired of the act and left town. In 1997, Carlo was supposedly killed for real. But when Mortimer came to escort Alex out of town, many wondered if he was actually Carlo.

OLTL Mitch Natalie
Mitch and Natalie (Roscoe Born and Melissa Archer)
— Steve Fenn/ABC

Mitch Laurence (2002)
In order to worm his way back into Viki's family, Mitch (Roscoe Born) pretended to be religious zealot Michael and wooed Viki's daughter, Natalie (Melissa Archer). When Nat learned the truth, she tried to get out of the union, but Mitch wreaked havoc for her and her mom, as well as sister Jessica and half of Llanview. Eventually, Mitch was found murdered — supposedly by Jessica — but the case was never officially solved.

OLTL Rae
Rae and Asa with Renee (Linda Dano, Phil Carey and Patricia Elliott)
— Steve Fenn/ABC

Rae Cummings (2001, 2002)
On July 4, 2001, Rae (Linda Dano) had a bizarre dream in which almost everyone in Llanview switched identities, including Todd and Viki and R.J. and Bo. The next year, Rae became Asa's (Phil Carey) court-appointed psychiatrist; she also confessed that she wasn't really a therapist; she'd stolen a diploma from her friend, "Ray," and the name had been spelled wrong. After she was exposed as a fraud by Asa, she blackmailed him into marrying her by threatening to reveal what he'd told her in their "sessions." She soon granted him a divorce and obtained a legit psych license.

Todd Manning (1998, 2003)
In order to prevent Téa from having him prosecuted for taking her hostage in 1998, Todd pretended to have DID, like his sister, Viki, assuming such personalities as Miss Perkins (the school marm) and Tom (the innocent). Eventually, he and Téa reunited, but at their wedding reception, Starr accidentally played the tape revealing that he'd been faking DID. Todd left town and Téa filed for divorce. In 2003, after being presumed dead, Todd (Trevor St. John) returned with a new face and called himself Walker Laurence. Blair (Kassie DePaiva) fell for Walker and married him. When the truth came out, she slept with Kevin, then had a violent sexual encounter with Todd and had him arrested for rape. She recanted after learning that she had a brain tumor that might have affected her memory.

OLTL Christian
Cristian Vega (David Fumero)
— ABC

In 2004, Cristian (David Fumero) was presumed dead after being taken hostage by mobster Flynn. The next year, however, Cristian returned from the dead and revealed that he'd been kept prisoner on a boat; he was also displaying erratic behavior, especially when talk concerned the recently murdered Tico Santi. Cris soon confessed that he was actually an impostor — and he had pulled Tico's life-support plug. The "impostor" was sentenced to life in prison, but then John learned that the confused man was ... the real Cristian. However, Cris asked John to keep this info a secret because he didn't want his wife, Natalie, waiting for him while he was serving time.
