Bregman Off The Slopes

— By Deanna Barnert, Stacy China

You know the ski trip fantasy — racing down packed powder slopes, snow bunnies snuggling by the fire at the lodge. For the ski trip reality, check in with Y&R's Tracey E. Bregman (Lauren), who told Weekly about her latest vacation.

Bregman describes herself and her husband as former ski lovers who have changed their minds of late. "We skied two years ago in Big Bear and our kids snowboard, but I'll tell you, with the snowboarders that are out of control, we just get too scared. We lost our taste for it," she explains. "After the schlepping and everything we've had to do on this trip, we looked at each other and said, 'Think tropical next time.'"

Getting their kids ski lessons may have been the final straw. "You go one place for private lessons and, even though you've booked a month in advance, you have to pay every morning and stand in line for half an hour or more. No matter how early you get here, you're always late. Someone's always lost a glove. Where's the helmet? The boots take 10 minutes to get on. Nothing's ever right. It's hilarious. By the time you get on the mountain, I'm ready to cry. The first two days we were here, it was like National Lampoon's Snow Vacation. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong," Bregman laments.

"The other gimmick we love is that, after spending an inordinate amount of money to have instructors for both kids for half a day, they then tell you to meet them at the top of the mountain! What? So you have to stand in a huge line to get a $38 ticket on the gondola, then you have to stand in another line that can take up to half an hour to get on the gondola. Then you have to work your way up to the top of the mountain to pick up your child, only to do the same thing to go back. What part of this is fun?" Bregman wonders.

"Even when I was skiing, I was good for [only] three hours. By lunch I could do the run to get down off the hill and then I was done. I was never the hardcore, ski-till-the-sun-goes-down kind of girl," Bregman shares.

Considering this latest experience, it may be a while before she ventures out to the slopes. Hawaii, anyone?
