1993-95
Nikki lost the baby when she rushed to prevent an argument between Victoria and Victor and tumbled down the stairs. She didn't tell Jack that Victor had played a role in her fall; when he learned the truth and that she'd been protecting Victor, Jack realized she'd never love him in that way. Meanwhile, Victor left town and was presumed dead. In reality, he was on a farm in Kansas and had fallen for the blind owner, Hope Adams (Signy Coleman). Victor came home when he heard that Jack was trying to take over his company.

Victor wed Hope, who soon gave birth to Victor Newman, Jr.; the union only lasted about a year. Nikki became engaged to Brad.

1996-98
Just as Nikki and Brad (Don Diamont) were about to say, "I do," the bride got a call reporting that Victor had been shot. Nikki was upset when a recovering Victor refused to stay with her and instead went to visit Hope in Kansas so that he could get some peace and quiet. He returned home all set to propose to Nikki, but then learned that Hope's new husband, Cliff, had died. When he went back to comfort her, a miffed Nikki impetuously tied the knot with her gynecologist, Dr. Joshua Landers. Later, after Joshua walked in on Nikki and Victor kissing, he made Nikki choose between them. She chose Joshua and Victor got hitched with Diane Jenkins.

Soon, Joshua's crazy ex, Sarah/Veronica, came to town. She shot Nikki and killed Joshua. When Nikki was on her deathbed, Vic got a quickie divorce from Diane so that they could wed for the second time. However, the union was invalid because his and Diane's divorce was declared illegal.

1999-2002
Diane divorced Victor, who was finally free to be with Nikki. He was presumed dead in a plane crash, but was actually being held hostage by crazy Chet and Chet's girlfriend, Ramona. She helped Vic escape and Chet was killed during a fight. When Victor returned home, Nikki grew wary of his friendships with Ashley and Ramona. Nikki wanted to have another baby, but he refused. Angry, she got involved with Brad again. When they broke up, Brad wed Ashley, who gave birth to a daughter, Abby ... and kept the father's identity a secret. Victor became furious with Nikki when she bailed out a flailing Jabot in exchange for a board seat. Meanwhile, Diane was impregnated with Victor's sperm and gave birth to a son, Christian. Later tests proved that Victor wasn't the father. Nikki eventually admitted to switching sperm samples. He and Nikki reconciled and wed for the third time.

2003-05
Ashley revealed to Brad that Victor is Abby's biological father. When Brad blabbed to Nikki, Ashley convinced her to keep the news secret. Nikki stood by Victor when he was arrested for shady business practices. Eventually, little Abby, who accidentally learned of her paternity, revealed to Victor that she's his daughter; he demanded visitation rights. Ashley, recovering from a mental breakdown after losing Brad's baby, suddenly decided that Victor was her true love, but he reminded her that he's wed to Nikki. Nikki grew close to club owner Bobby Marsino, whose brother she'd accidentally killed when she was a child, but Bobby was devoted to his wife, Brittany. Nikki recently got into trouble when she was held hostage by Bobby's former mob associates. Victor rescued her and has been helping her deal with the aftermath. The Newmans are also trying to get their lives together after the death of their granddaughter, Cassie.
