Hiding the body behind a dumpster, Sharon confessed her crime to Michael Baldwin, but not to the police. Although she managed to keep anyone from discovering the corpse, Sharon began to have terrifying visions of Cameron. Grace came back to town looking for her boyfriend, Cameron. Eventually, Sharon discovered that Cameron was not dead: He and Grace had plotted to make Sharon go crazy and ruin her marriage to Nick. When the body of Frank Barritt (Cassie's biological father) was found in the sewer, all evidence indicated Sharon had murdered him. Eager for her freedom, Sharon pleaded with Cameron to help her. He agreed to help her if she would leave the country and live with him forever. She agreed, in order to prove that he was behind Frank's death. Nick managed to rescue her from the plane and Cameron was arrested for Frank's murder. Nick and Sharon celebrated their life together with the Newman family. Growing restless, Sharon pursued a career at Jabot. Busy with work, Nick and Sharon struggled to find time for each other.

2005
Cutbacks at Jabot endangered Sharon's job, and Nick offered her one at Newman Enterprises. Desperate to hang on to Sharon, Victor informed her that Nick was paying her salary under the table. Sharon was furious, but decided to leave Jabot anyway. Cassie, now 14, began dressing older and skipping school. Despite Nick and Sharon's talks with their daughter, Cassie continued to act out. At a party, Cassie got into an accident when she tried to drive a drunken Daniel home. Her injuries eventually led to her death. Nick and Sharon tried to deal with the loss of their daughter, but found themselves drifting apart as Nick walled himself off in anger and Sharon looked for comfort from a recently divorced Brad.
