For years, I felt that Y&R was doing itself a huge disservice by showing one of their classic episodes on Christmas day. Why? Because the audience would ultimately be treated to a show from the golden years when its co-creator, the late great William Bell served as head writer. I can clearly remember how Bill's distinct writing style would enthrall and engross me on a daily basis, wringing every dramatic drop out of a moment so that even a knock on the door was a cliffhanger. But when Bill retired in the late ’90s, the feel of the show changed to the point that the annual classic episode was a sore reminder of how great Y&R used to be. But I'm happy to share that this year is different now that Bill's daughter-in-law Maria Arena Bell is at the helm. I feel like I'm watching the Y&R of old but infused with a whole new exciting energy. As far as that classic episode, I say bring it on!

Okay, I'm going to share something spooky, and I want you GL fans to help me out here. If my eyes are not glued to the screen while the show is on, I swear I can't tell Daniel Cosgrove's (Bill) voice apart from Tom Wiggin's (Lawrence). Try this at home and let me know. It's also interesting to note that when I admitted this to my boss Stephanie Sloane, she revealed she used to experience the same dilemma with Ricky Paull Goldin (ex-Gus) and Tom Pelphrey (ex-Jonathan). Hmmmm....

While watching Billy Miller in action on Y&R as the new Billy Abbott (he's great, isn't he?), I had to chuckle when the randy character called Sharon's interior designer "sir." That's because I'm sure that respectful term wasn't anywhere in the script. Why? During my very first phone interview with the good ol' boy from Texas (after he arrived on the Y&R set), he politely called me "sir" at the end of almost every sentence (so much so that I kept checking the date of birth on my driver's license). But I'm happy to report that Mr. Miller (there, I can exercise good manners too) also has a great sense of humor. When I called his dressing room for our chat, Billy (who used to play Richie on AMC) answered the phone with, "Cameron Mathison here."

Yipee! That's my reaction to the news that Katherine's doppelgänger Marge (the tacky, frowsy waitress) is coming back to Y&R. That switcheroo story back in 1990 — way before I started at Digest — was one of my all-time faves and Jeanne Cooper was an absolute hoot in both roles (if you weren't watching then, you missed the hilarious scene when La Chancellor had to impersonate Marge trying to act like Kay). I even sent my one and only letter of high praise to then-head writer Bill Bell, and imagine my surprise when his wife Lee personally wrote me back with a thank-you note. With their daughter-in-law Maria now as Y&R's top scribe, it's almost a slam-dunk that the next Kay/Marge chapter will be fun and exciting.

I'm not sure why you're surprised about Robin Riker's Beth looking so young, Devin. After all, there isn't much of an age difference between papa Stephen and #1 Logan daughter Brooke since Patrick Duffy's been playing the Logans' pop. So it is any wonder that Stephen's blushing former bride has gotten younger as well? Of course, I'm still trying to figure out how Storm could graduate high school in 1982 and still be older than Brooke, but I guess those kinds of age paradoxes come with the soapy territory.

Hey, Devin (Kevin) Your photo looks great. Is it current? Do you ever go out on classmates.com? I have and been able to look up several old friends. How have you been? It sounds like you have an exciting and succesfull life. Good for you. I got married in Dec. to one of the guys I dated from Los Molinos. We live in Las Vegas. He has four children (23)(21)(16)(9) and I have my 19 year old daughter. She is in college in the Sac. area. I still keep in touch with D'Lorah. We are planning to be up in RB for the 4th. We are planning to enter a float in the LM parade. The things that excite a hometown heart. My mom is still healthy in RB as is my sister and brother. My dad passed about five years ago. Would like to hear from you either at yahoo or classmates(cool site). Let me know if your ever in LV. Would like you to visit. We have a nice home with a pool. Love Janet.

i am a Y&R fan and I am sick and tired of the Cane, Chloe, and Lily drama. Why did you all put them together then separate them? Please get another decent storyline and put a end to this one quick. I am tired of Chloe and Gloria getting away with everthing. Please put cane and Lily back together quick and soon. Chloe is a real nut case who should be with Adam if anybody.

I used to watch YR for years when I was younger, but have only recently begun to watch again when I can. I was amazed to see that the Catherine character is still on and does not look that much older than she did when I was a teenage! http://www.the-restoration-express.com
