AMC Recaps Week of Oct. 17, 2005

Jacob Young gave a heart-breaking performance as JR accepted that Dixie was dead and she wasn’t coming back. When Tad left JR alone with Di, she asked, “Can you please forgive me?” He grabbed her by the shoulders, “I could grab you by the hair and pull you to the gates of Hell and God himself would be selling the tickets.” She didn’t want this to destroy all the progress he had made in getting over his vengeance. “You make me sick,” he said, and told Di she’d never get near his son again. Alone again with Tad, Di broke down. “This is not what I wanted,” she cried. She didn’t know where to go or what to do, to which he replied that he didn’t care. When Di apologized, yet again, Tad spat, “Sorry doesn’t begin to cut it.” With that, Di said she’d pack and leave, but before walking inside she pleaded with Tad to help JR. When Adam was celebrating over Di’s downfall, Krystal was appalled. Adam pointed out now was a good chance for someone to pick up the pieces of Tad’s heart, and Krystal assured Adam that she wasn’t going back to Tad. “I am never leaving you, hubby of mine. Your punishment is just beginning.” She went on to tell him the only man she cared about was Little Adam and she was going to make darn sure that Adam didn’t mess up his life.

When Ryan asked Greenlee to forgive him, she exploded. “You understand nothing,” she yelled. And as she recounted for him what she went through, she realized that Lily actually saw him that night and Zach knew the entire time. Ryan decided he would give Greenlee some time to make sense of all of this. “There is no hope for us, Ryan,” Greenlee sadly said. “As far as I’m concerned, you are still dead.”

Kendall attacked her husband, but he stopped her. “Shut your mouth, open your eyes and see that I care about you,” he ordered. If this was his idea of caring, she wanted no more of it and demanded he get out. Moments after he left, JR showed up and embraced a tearful Kendall. When Kendall explained how Ryan faked his own death, JR left, promising to take care of it. He found Ryan in the park and took his anger out on Ryan. “Come on, jackass! Take me on,” he yelled. (Um, he’s a lot bigger than you, JR. Want to rethink that?) After JR punched Ryan in the stomach, Ryan shook his head and said, “I am not going to fight you.” When Ryan turned to walk away, JR picked up a big stick — more like a limb of a tree — and took a swing at Ryan.

Zach stormed off to his office, where Julia happened to stop by. Apparently the rest of Garret’s organization had been rounded up and Julia wanted to thank Zach. When he said he didn’t care, Julia could see something was wrong and bugged him about it. But Zach wasn’t in the mood and kicked her out of his office. Meanwhile, Greenlee went straight to Kendall to tell her how Ryan lied, but she informed her best friend she already knew. The two shared their sorrows together (over Ryan and Zach). Greenlee told Kendall she didn’t tell Ryan about the baby and Greens eventually wondered: “Do you still want to give birth to Ryan’s baby?”

The extended Chandler/Martin/Cortlandt clans came together at the Chandler mansion for Di's big announcement. Di struggled to make her declaration. "I lied," she said, finally choking out that she's not Dixie, but rather's Dixie's half sister. Confusion spread over the faces of JR, Jamie et. al., while glee spread over Adam's. "I knew it!" he bellowed. JR didn't believe Di and demanded to know why she was lying. JR turned on Adam, accusing him of being responsible. Krystal was disgusted by Adam's triumphant behavior. Del then entered and unsuccessfully tried to pull off shock at Di's revelation. Di continued with her explanations, so it sank in to Jamie that Dixie was truly dead. Tears ran down JR's face and as the whole group wrestled with this horrible reality, Opal smacked Di across the face. JR began to unravel and tore off; Tad followed him and a sobbing JR fell into his arms.

Kendall ranted to Zach about his betrayal. "Did you lie to me or not?" she demanded. "I lied," he admitted, and explained how he aided Ryan's trip out of Pine Valley. Kendall was not impressed by Zach's rationale about how he wanted to protect her, but he continued to insist his actions were appopriate. "I'm pregnant with Ryan's baby," Kendall reminded him. "What now?" "I don't know," he shrugged. Kendall was livid with Zach for not having told her the truth before she went through with the surrogacy. "Can I make it up to you?" he asked.

Ryan warned Greenlee that he had something to tell her that would hurt to hear. She wanted them to cuddle instead, but he forged ahead, divulging that while he was gone, he wasn't amnesiac, wasn't wounded. "I lied," he sighed. "I chose not to come back to you." Greenlee remained silent while Ryan explained his reasons for faking his death. Ryan then disclosed that he'd been hiding in Erin's cabin when she visited and told Erin about her miscarriage. Greens reeled from this double whammy of deception and she tearfully cut him off when he tried to tell her why he changed his mind and came back. "You ripped my heart out," she spat. Ryan pleaded with Greens to let him make it up to her.

Amanda took Jamie's bank card to the bank and tried to get money out. When Babe observed the scene, she instructed the bank manager to call Jamie because Amanda couldn't be trusted. Jamie showed up and once he spotted Babe, he played along with Amanda and allowed her the money. Cross words between Jamie and Babe, of course, followed this.

When Krystal pointed out that Di loved Tad, she added that he loved her, too. Tad denied it, but Krystal told him to think about keeping Di's secret — for the family's sake. Meanwhile at the Chandler Mansion, David stopped by to see Di and dropped the news that Ryan was alive. He laughed when he announced that Tad figured out she wasn't Dixie. "Need help packing?" he grinned smugly. "I'm not going anywhere," she challenged. When JR witnessed cross words between the two, he jumped to his "mom's" defense. Later, Di and JR shared a tender moment as they talked about Ryan's return from the dead. JR announced, "When a miracle gets handed to you, you don't ask questions." When he left the room Di made a phone call, and by the end of the episode, Chandler Mansion was full of the Martin/Chandler family, including Tad.

Kendall wasn't quick to rejoice over Ryan's return from the grave. She knew something was up. JR promised to help her find something out and with a kiss on the cheek, he was off on a quest. Kendall went after info on her own as well and asked Lily to tell her about the night she saw Ryan's "ghost." When Lily mentioned Zach was there that night, something clicked with Kendall. Kendall assured a worried Erica she was fine and asked that until she and Greenlee told Ryan about the baby that she keep her mouth shut. Back at Kendall's home, she cornered Zach. He thought she was worried about her safety since Ryan was back and she was carrying his child. "I'm going to protect you and that baby with my life," he promised her and then gave his wife a foot massage. The mood was ended though when Kendall announced: "You knew that Ryan was alive all along."

Jack was understandably worried about Greenlee. He feared Ryan would get physical with his daughter, but Erica tried to convince him that Ryan was clearly in a different place now. Jack demanded Erica give him answers about what was going on in Greenlee's life, and she told him he indeed deserved answers. She didn't exactly tell the complete truth, though. She explained that after the miscarriage Greenlee looked into other options in carrying Ryan's baby. (There is a little bit more to that story, huh?)

Greenlee and Ryan exchanged their declarations of love. He tried to tell her "the whole story" but Greenlee wanted to be with him, not talk. They had a little dance and made a little love. In the afterglow, Ryan gave Greenlee an empty butterfly cacoon. It symbolized him emerging from his cacoon. His life began again when he held her today. But now it was time for his little announcement...

Babe stopped Di from telling JR the truth and reminded JR he should be at the funeral for Kendall's sake. As soon as JR was gone, Babe looked Di in the eyes and told her she couldn't tell him that she wasn't Dixie. At first Di denied she was a fake, but eventually came clean. Krystal joined the party and also urged Di not to tell anyone who she was. Di busted their bubble when she announced Tad already knew and was demanding she tell the rest of the family. "I'm going to go smack some sense into Thaddeus Martin," Krystal announced and headed out the door. When she found Tad at the park, she begged him to let Di be Dixie.

In Canada, Jonathan and Erin discussed Greenlee and the possibility that Pine Valley might not be forgiving. "Will Greenlee forgive Ryan?" Jonathan wondered. Erin wasn't sure, but she was hopeful.

It took longer than he wanted, but Ryan pulled Greenlee's location out of Lily and jetted off to the park. When Lily put the final touches on her speech (it had to be changed since Ryan was now, you know, alive), she headed out, too. Meanwhile, at the park, Zach and Kendall were wisely able to talk Greenlee out of telling Jack about the baby. JR arrived just in time to hold Kendall's hand before the ceremony started. Greenlee made a poignant speech, but it was interrupted by Lily who wondered where Ryan was.

Sadly, a fire on New York City's 59th Street Bridge caused a brief interruption during AMC. When regularly scheduled programming resumed, Zach had spotted Ryan and was pleading with him not to reveal himself for Greenlee's sake. Ryan was doing this for Greenlee, though, and there was no talking him out of it. He walked into his own memorial service and Greenlee, as well as all the other Pine Valley-ites, were stunned. (They must not watch soaps, because seriously, how many times has a character returned from the dead just in time to be a guest at their on funeral?!) And then, of course, Greenlee fainted in her not-so-dead husband's arms. When Erica asked Ryan to tell them how he survived and where he had been, everyone else chimed in, wondering themselves. Ryan promised he'd tell them all everything, but it would have to wait. He needed to be alone with Greenlee right now. So he did just that and took his wife home. "I have to tell you everything," he began, but she silenced him with a kiss.

Erica blamed Greg Madden for the situation Greenlee and Kendall were in, but they tried to assure her this was no fault of his; Kendall wasn't another "notch in his stirrups." This wasn't a mistake. Kendall did it for Greenlee. Greens told La Kane that if she couldn't be happy for them, she didn't want her at Ryan's memorial service. Erica promised she wouldn't go after Dr. Madden, but she couldn't tell them they were doing the right thing. As soon as they left, Erica placed an order to find out more about Dr. Madden — an order that Kendall and Greens couldn't find out about.

Ryan returned to his home and was shocked to find the photos Greenlee had displayed of him in their bedroom. After seeing the photo of Greenlee's ultrasound, Ryan got teary eyed as he laid on his bed. After their encounter with Erica, Kendall and Greenlee returned back to Greenlee's home (which was now empty). Greens immediately could tell someone had been there, though. When she went into the bedroom, Greenlee noticed the bed was messed up and Kendall noticed the disturbing shrine to Ryan. After Kendall comforted Greenlee, she and Simone took Greenlee to the park.

Jack assured a concerned Lily that he wasn't glad Ryan was "dead." When the kids went off to get dressed for the funeral, Erica returned home, disturbed when Jack brought up how great Kendall was being to Greenlee. The Kane/Montgomery clan left to go to the funeral, but Lily had to stay behind. Before she could join her family, Ryan came to the door. "Why were you dead?" she asked, then told him she knew were Greenlee was.

When JR pressed Jamie for information about why Babe and Jamie split, Jamie wondered if JR still had a thing for their ex. "You are giving her way too much credit," said JR. When the past was brought up, the boys started fighting, but there was noticeable improvement before Jamie headed off to Ryan's funeral.

Tad told Di that if she really loved the family as much as she said she did, she would tell them the truth. Di was worried what it would do to JR. When she claimed she didn't think she could tell them, he assured her that if she didn't, he would. When she told him she thought that he loved her, he replied, "I loved Dixie. She's dead." Then he left for Ryan's funeral, stating that if she hadn't told JR by the time he got back, he would. Di then walked into the Chandler Mansion and JR immediately noticed something was wrong. "What is it, mom?" he asked.

Pine Valley denizens gathered in the park for Ryan's funeral. When Greenlee saw Erica walk in she announced, "I don't want you here!" Jack demanded to know why everyone was upset and Greenlee told him that she would tell him, but he wasn't going to like it.
