ATWT Recaps Week of May 15, 2006

Friday, May 19, 2006
Maddie tried to return the condoms, but the druggist wouldn't accept them — just as Casey walked in! He apologized for running off and wanted to talk, but Maddie figured he wasn't interested in dating a virgin and fled. Casey tracked her down. Maddie feared Casey still has a thing for Gwen, but Casey insisted it was just business. He said sex has caused him problems — his son died and he never even knew him. He wanted to "get close" to Maddie, but didn't want to ruin things — condoms are not foolproof. She's his girlfriend, but they can't do anything that would get her pregnant.

At the library, Jade encouraged Will to buy a research paper online. She called up a Web page faster than conjuring a porn site, and showed him a paper on ecosystems. He was skeptical, but Jade told him to just change some words to personalize it. He relented and gave her his credit card. Gwen walked in precisely at the moment Will thanked Jade for saving his life. Gwen jokingly asked if she wrote his paper? Will introduced the women, and Gwen offered to help Jade with her housing problem. Will quickly suggested Gwen's old place over Bert's garage. Jade said she'd check it out. Gwen praised Will's hard work and told him they're going to need caps and gowns to graduate.

Paul left a message on Meg's machine promising he is getting divorced and relinquishing any claim to Emily's child, so they should go to Fiji. An anguished Meg listened while washing dishes. Paul found Jessica having breakfast, and she had his legal papers handy. Paul insisted relinquishing custody gives him a new start. Meg replayed Paul's message while looking over the Fiji brochure. Jack walked in and observed it's hard to love someone. Why "start over" with Paul? Things won't change with him. Meg tried to defend Paul, and insisted she knew what she was doing. At hospital, Hal defended sending Emily for mental health evaluation as Dusty freaked and called it "special treatment" from her ex-husband. Emily then revealed she's keeping her baby — much to Dusty and Jennifer's horror. Dusty figured Paul planned to impregnate Emily as a plot to keep her from going to jail. Dusty insisted Emily wasn't mentally ill, and he cannot forget what she did to him. Meanwhile, Meg told Jack the Snyders were lucky to grow up with in a loving family instead of with the Stenbecks or Tenneys. Paul and Carly need Meg and Jack, and the Snyders need to care for someone.

Speaking of Carly, Katie told her that Nick may have been involved in hiding evidence — and produced the other St. Christopher medal from the box. So whose medal was stolen from evidence room? They sussed out the medal in the box is Mike's, which means the one found with the body can't be. Katie remembered Nick sent his medal to a jeweler to fix the clasp, so they started calling shops. Katie pretended to be Nick's wife and asked the jeweler to bring the medal over. When he did, Carly recognized a notch in its side, identifying it as Nick's. That means Jack found Nick's medal with the body. Nick wasn't clearing Mike, he was covering for himself! The gals wondered about the lab report mentioning DNA "consistent with Mike," and vowed to find out what that means.

Paul ran into Dusty and Jennifer, and was stunned to learn Emily was being evaluated. Paul insisted he's signed away any rights, but Dusty was convinced Paul would be raising the kid with Em before the year is out. Jen blasted Dusty for getting angry over an innocent baby. Dusty revealed that when he thought he was dying he thought of Jen, so Jennifer offered him a deal: If Dusty concentrates on Jen and Johnny, she will cut all ties with Paul. Meanwhile, Emily looked over her new quarters and despaired. A nurse summoned her for the doctor just as Em started mooning over the sonogram. She hoped the baby will be a girl, but how can she give it away? Emily went to her appointment just before Paul walked in to drop off the divorce papers. He spied the file, and couldn't resist looking at the sonogram — just as Emily returned.

In the park, Dusty asked J.D.: "How would you feel if I married your mom?"

Which two actors did Casey use to illustrate Maddie's romantic preferences?

Will has a 10-page Biology paper due tomorrow, which he was starting to work on at the library, when Maddie arrived for some emergency advice. "Am I hot?" she asked. He was weirded out, and refused to answer on the grounds of his being married. After she filled him in on some backstory, Will was shocked (shocked!) to hear that Casey did not want to have sex with Maddie. "I'm sorry Maddie, that's not Casey," he said, kind of laughing (awesome), but then assured her that Casey’s crazy about her. "Maybe I should just cut my hair and dye it blonde" because that's what guys like, she shrugged. "Yeah, that's why I'm working my butt off and buried in schoolwork: because I'm attracted to a hairdo," he said, before suggesting that he's the last person to give romantic advice and urged her to talk to Casey. A grateful Will had just politely turned down Maddie's offer to help when Jade sauntered up to do the same. Her idea of help involved buying a paper online. (Meanwhile, who ever heard of writing a term paper for Biology class?) Later, Maddie went back to the P&G product-placement drugstore to unsuccessfully request a refund or exchange on the opened boxes (!) of unused condoms, which she said were for her brother. Casey caught her there.

Carly dropped by Hal's to give Gwen a dress that she'd made her. "I realized I've been spending way too much time doing things I'm not supposed to and not nearly enough time focusing on the people that really count, like you," said Carly, who gave her sister some advice about Will's jealousy regarding Casey, then doomsday prophesied that unless Gwen found another job, her marriage could be over. Thankfully Gwen realized that was a bit overdramatic, although she did sadly note that if Carly and Jack can't keep it together, it makes her worried about her own marriage, especially with all the school-work-family-shelter stress. Of course, she also denied doing anything on her own part to jeopardize her marriage while flashing back to The Moment with Casey. After Carly left, a disappointed Gwen found Will's cap and gown order form in the trash.

Katie called in sick so she could spend the day with Mike, who had already made plans to go fishing with Nick. "There's nothing sexier than a man coming home smelling like trout," she said before giving him permission, while also noting that she's suspicious of Nick. They had a whispered argument about Nick's possible involvement in evidence theft in which he defended his cousin, who wasn't at all fooled when he came downstairs and asked whether he's causing problems for them again. The Kasnoffs reassured him that he's always welcome in their home. After the men left, Snickers had a total freakout (to some jaunty music) which we didn't really get to see because Katie's back was to us but which ended in Katie knocking over a box on the desk — and finding another St. Christopher medal. So now a bunny is doing work that the Oakdale P.D. hasn't. Katie's next step was to summon help. And who ya gonna call when you need to think of a scheme fast? Why Carly, of course.

Jen, Dusty and Johnny were strolling along, enjoying the fresh air "outside" on a sketchy-looking bridge (that may be the same one Meg was on when she threw Dusty's wallet in the river), but he was preoccupied by Emily’s imminent arraignment, which he was hoping to see (perhaps planning to throw tomatoes and give her the evil eye from the gallery). She tried to talk to him about how unhealthy it is not to put his kidnapping behind him, but Dusty's still got a touch of post-traumatic stress disorder or something, because he's determined. A supportive Jen had no choice but to join him.

Henry was urging Emily to trust him when Hal arrived to take her to her arraignment. That's when a bearded Cass (Cass! With a beard!) showed up to sexily order Hal to uncuff Emily, because he got a court-ordered postponement of the arraignment, so the judge has time to ponder the level of her psychosis. Hal and Tom scoffed at the notion that Emily actually thinks she can beat the rap by pleading insanity because they — having both been entangled with Barbara at times — apparently see absolutely nothing insane about her recent actions. Oh no, she's not a nutcase at all. Actually, Emily (against Cass's smooth advice) tearfully insisted that she deserves to be punished, but that she'd been walking around in a fog since Paul dumped her, and she feels like something's really wrong with her. Tom didn't buy it; he wants her in jail. Daniel then bounded in and gave his mother an awkward yet cloying hug. He doesn't want her to go to jail either, but she told him that she needs more time to get better, "like a time out." Poor kid with the crazy mommy — this freckled little redhead is another Will waiting to happen. Hide the mouthwash! Daniel then took off, Henry gave her a quick dose of comfort, and even Hal was kind of nice before Tom and Cass returned with the news: She'll be in the hospital for a 30-day evaluation period. Dusty showed up just in time to hear that. "You're not getting away with this, sweetheart, you can trust me on that," her victim Post Traumatic Stress Disorder'd in that low growl that he has. "She belongs behind bars and you know it!"

Will asked Jade what she was doing on the bridge and she said she knew his marriage was in the tank. Jade blasted him for telling Luke to come out to his parents. Will said he was trying to help Luke, and Jade called them both spoiled rich boys. Jade said she overheard his argument with Gwen and reassured Will that Gwen loved him. Will asked her about her family and she said they didn't care about her. Will left. Meanwhile, Casey showed up at Hal's to talk to an angry Gwen about the club. She revealed she and Will fought about their trip to Chicago and that Will missed his bio exam and now won't graduate. Casey wondered how Gwen became the bad guy in Will's messed up life story. Gwen said Will was upset that they fell asleep together but she said he was really stressed out about them living at Hal's. Casey reassured a tearful Gwen and he told her he had to go because Maddie has a big surprise for him. Gwen urged Casey to tell Maddie how much he likes her, and thanked him for listening to her. On Casey's way out, Will showed up. Gwen tried to explain why Casey was there and Will wondered how it got that crazy between them. Gwen requested a "do-over" and reassured him that she wasn't going anywhere. Will said he wanted to be more like Gwen — open and honest — and he was going to try. He said he wanted to graduate and for them to get an apartment on their own, and then they kissed and made up. Back at the library, Jade called her dad and was upset when he told her not to call again. She turned out the light, then made her bed on the floor behind the stacks.

Maddie arrived at Lisa's and set the mood with grapes and by draping a scarf over the lamp. She took out a little pink teddy, then had a black and white, silent daydream of what could happen. When she asked Casey about protection he replied, "This is your fantasy. You deal with the props." Maddie rushed out to buy condoms at the drug store, where she ran into Tom. Maddie panicked to make sure that Tom didn't find out what she was buying and then quickly left. Casey showed up at Lisa's to find Maddie in a teddy. Casey stepped on a grape and didn't like the jasmine musk smell, and informed Maddie she didn't have to do all of this — he was just happy hanging out with her. They started making out until Casey slammed on the breaks again. Maddie wondered if she did something wrong, but he said it wasn't her and took off without telling Maddie why.

Henry visited Emily in the hospital and told her that the cops had his money now. Emily apologized and Henry feared they would link the money to BJ. Emily reassured him that she wouldn't rat Henry out to the cops. Hal showed up and arrested a tearful Emily for kidnapping and told her she would be taken to jail tomorrow. Henry asked to stay with Emily to comfort her and Hal allowed it. Henry was shocked to hear what Emily was going through with the pregnancy. Emily insisted she changed her mind on her own. "Does the baby get its own cot in prison or do you have to share?" he pondered. Emily said Susan was going to raise her baby until she gets out of prison as the thought of Paul and Meg raising her child made her crazy. Henry told her to fight the charges for her and her baby — she really was crazy and she should use it to her advantage! Hal ran into Tom at the drug store and told him he had just arrested Emily. They talked about Daniel, and Tom said they had to be prepared for Emily to be hit with the maximum sentence.

Paul showed up at the farm to talk to Meg but found Emma instead. Emma said she couldn't help him as Meg looked through the window. Emma told him to go take care of his pregnant wife and leave Meg alone so she could heal. He left and Meg defended Paul to Emma. An upset Meg went outside for some air and ran into Paul. He asked Meg to run away with him. Paul revealed that he was divorcing Emily and relinquishing all rights to the baby but Meg wouldn't budge. Paul said he was in love with her and begged her for another chance. Meg said she wanted to go to Fiji Islands and Paul produced a brochure on...the Fiji Islands (then revealed he had brochures on lots of different locales). They shared a lighthearted moment and Meg said she would think about it as Paul walked away.

Gwen found the note about Will missing his bio exam as Maddie walked up to the house. Will came outside and panicked as he couldn't find the note, then left for the library. Maddie asked Gwen if guys are turned off by girls who make the first move. Maddie beat herself up for kissing Casey and driving him away. Gwen was stunned when Maddie asked her how to turn Casey on. Gwen said she didn't want to think about her experience with Casey. Maddie apologized, and said she just wanted Casey to want her. While Maddie made a list of things to do/get (candles, protection, etc), Gwen brought up Will's missed bio test and Maddie urged her to talk to Will about it. Gwen found Will beating himself up on a bridge and they discussed his lying about the exam. Will said they were now even — Gwen forgot to tell him about her trip with Casey, including him falling asleep on her shoulder. They got in a fight about Casey and their living arrangements. He blamed her for staying at Hal's, then her taking a job that his mother arranged. Gwen said she would never compromise his happiness for hers. Will wanted them to be on their own and happy. Gwen replied that she didn't know they were unhappy and she can't read his mind. Gwen took off, and Jade showed up and put her hand on Will's arm. Meanwhile, Casey met Tom at Java and reassured him that he and Gwen did not have sex in Chicago. Casey asked him how to say "no" to a girl. He said he was really into Maddie and didn't want to blow it. Tom wondered if this was a PR move so his parents would trust him again. Casey was insulted and said he was trying to do the right thing. Tom suggested Casey talk to Maddie about it. An impressed Tom gave Casey some of his privileges back and left. Lisa told Maddie she had to go to a hotel convention for a few days and Maddie was relieved Lisa didn't forbid her from having Casey over to the apartment. Maddie called Casey and invited him over to Lisa's place, adding she had a surprise for him.

Luke showed up at the library with some of Jade's stuff to forward to her new address and was surprised to find her still in Oakdale. Jade said she wasn't leaving and he had to deal with it. Luke wondered what she was up to but she said she wanted to make money and get her life back together. She then taunted him about how Lily feels about him being gay, but Luke insisted Lily is coming around. Jade called him a liar and Luke regretted ever getting involved with her. He threw her a box of her things at her and stomped off.

Lily met up with Lucinda at the hospital and they celebrated Lucinda beating cancer. Lucinda sensed something was wrong and Lily revealed that Jade and Luke are no longer together because Luke thinks he's gay. Lily was surprised when Lucinda wasn't surprised. Lucinda pointed out Luke's recent behavior and Lily wondered how she could be so calm. Lily feared Luke could get hurt and Lucinda told her to be grateful that her family could handle this. Lily blamed herself, then said she wished she didn't know. Lucinda told her to love Luke for the way he is. Luke came upon their talk and asked his mom what she wanted him to be. Lucinda gave him a big hug and told him she is cancer-free, then left them to talk. Luke told Lily that Jade plans on staying in town and accused Lily of not being able to touch him or look at him. He then stormed off.

At the police station, Mike asked Jack not to stick up for Carly. Nick insisted that he has a medal that looks like Mike's and he didn't steal the medal from the evidence room. Jack said Mike was still the primary suspect in the murder investigation. Katie accused Carly of hurting Nick and Mike to get her husband back and that Jack was buying into it. Katie and Carly almost came to blows, so Mike, Katie and Nick walked off and Nick reassured them that he was going to be okay. Carly thanked Jack for defending her but Jack told her they had to stop finding excuses to be in each other's lives. Carly said she didn't like to see how this case was getting to him, especially because they both believe Mike is innocent. Jack said they had to let each other go and walked away. Katie confronted Carly and said they had a score to settle. Carly backed down and Katie wanted Jack off the case. Carly told Katie not to punish Jack for what she did, and warned her to keep an eye on Nick. Katie said Nick was more trustworthy than Carly and insisted that Nick didn't take the medal. Carly replied that it was just a little too neat and that somehow Nick had all the answers. Carly warned Katie not to lose her husband, then departed. Back at the cottage, Mike asked Nick if he took the medal out of the evidence room, and accused Nick of thinking that Mike was guilty. Nick said he was sure Mike would be acquitted and they shook hands.

Paul begged Meg to move in with him, but she insisted that Emily's pregnancy changes everything. Paul tried to reassure her that he was going to put her first, but Meg told him she couldn't risk getting hurt again and she couldn't compete with a baby. Paul declared that Meg was all he wanted and added that he didn't ask to be a parent. Meg announced that they were over and Paul left. Emma showed up and comforted a tearful Meg. Meg filled Emma in on the pregnancy development, then the bellhop showed up for Meg's things. She told him she wasn't moving after all, then Emma invited Meg to come back home. Meg accepted but said she had things to do first. Emma took off and Meg was haunted by memories of Paul. Paul knocked on her door and asked to come in.

At the hospital, Susan hoped Emily wasn't having the baby so the judge would go easier on her. Emily maintained she wanted the baby and Susan promised to help. A police officer showed up to take Emily but Susan insisted that Emily was too weak. Susan went to take care of it, and couldn't believe Hal ordered the arrest. Bob showed up and Susan told him that Emily has decided to have the baby after all and asked Susan to take care of the baby. Meanwhile, Emily had a nightmare where Paul and Meg took the baby from her. Susan comforted Emily and told her it was a bad dream. Paul walked into the room. Emily informed him that Susan was going to look after the baby, and Paul revealed he was going to give up all his rights to the child. Paul insisted he was just trying to do the right thing by everyone — including Meg. Emily said Paul couldn't be trusted. Paul told her he had contacted a lawyer and left. Susan came back into the room and Emily told her it was over. Susan said it was great news — Paul was out of their lives forever! But Emily didn't look so sure.

Will woke up Gwen when she fell asleep at the library. Will was clearly still annoyed with how much time she was spending with Casey, who showed up and said he needed Gwen. They talked about booking a band at Crash and Casey wanted Gwen to talk to Lisa about it. Will told Gwen to go, so Gwen and Casey took off. Maddie showed up and asked Will if he was okay after she saw him slam a book shut. Will confessed that he missed his bio exam but reassured Maddie he will take care of it. Maddie realized that he was annoyed about Casey and Gwen spending so much time together. Will came home and the note from the teacher about his missed bio exam fell out of his pocket. Gwen returned home and reminded him they needed to order caps and gowns, then asked how he did on his bio test. Will told her the grades weren't posted yet. Gwen left to pick up some food and Will threw away the cap and gown info. On her way back, Gwen found the note from Will's teacher. Back at the library, Casey found Maddie and wondered if she still had a problem with him and Gwen spending time together. She grabbed him and kissed him. Casey wondered what was going on and she dragged him back into the stacks and kissed him some more. Casey cooled things off and ran out, leaving Maddie perplexed.

Mike and Katie got amorous and he discovered Katie's honeymoon plans. Katie realized Mike thinks that Nick had something to do with the missing St. Christopher's medal. Katie reassured Mike that they would go on their honeymoon at some point. Meanwhile, at Hal's, Carly found the medal in Nick's jacket and returned it just as Nick walked in and wondered what she was doing with his jacket. Carly said it fell on the floor and she thanked him for saving Parker's kite. Nick called Carly on being mad at him because she thinks he stole the medal. Carly said she had to go and told Nick to wait for Hal. She left and Nick pulled the medallion out of the pocket. Nick called Mike and asked him to meet him right away. Carly showed up at the station and told Jack that Nick has the medal. Jack blasted Carly for compromising the investigation. Carly realized she just couldn't win with him and said he couldn't ignore what she found out. Nick overheard and wondered what Carly was talking about. Nick warned Jack not to railroad him and pulled the medal out of his pocket, just as Mike and Katie walked in. Mike said it wasn't his medal — and that their grandfather gave each male Kasnoff a medal for graduation. Mike, Katie and Nick blasted Carly for wrongfully accusing Nick — again &mdaash; and playing by her own rules. Carly looked like she was about to cry as Jack told them to back off her.
