ATWT Recaps Week Of July 10, 2006

Friday, July 14, 2006
A very smoochy Katie and Mike returned home (to the Frasier cottage, ironically) but noise interrupted them. "Simon Frasier, if you are in this house, you are a dead man!" "Did you just say 'Simon'?" Carly gasped, emerging. Lia and Casey arrived at Crash to get questioned by Margo about the fire and Lia figured Maddie had torched her sweater. At Java, Lisa told Maddie all about the arson. Jade watched the exchange. Dusty asked Barbara to watch over Johnny so he could take off for a bit. Susan and Emily came to court for her hearing and met up with a not-so hopeful Cass. (Hi, Cass!) "Prayer is good," he advised, but Dusty's testimony would be even better. In the hallway, Paul (clean shaven today!) made up with Meg after their spat the night before. Barbara rang Paul's cell and told him that Dusty wouldn't be showing so his victory was a lock. Meanwhile, Dusty arrived at the house where Emily had held him captive. Jade wondered why Maddie had lied about being at Crash to Lisa. Casey told Lia to keep her Pyro Maddie theory to herself. Mike and Katie filled Carly in on the Love Boat fiasco and asked for Oakdale news. She regretfully told Jen's ex-hubby and his current wife about her death.

Henry arrived to support Emily but Susan booted him out. The hearing began and Tom asserted that Emily had been sane when she nabbed Dusty. Temperamental Dusty flashed back on his captivity. "She deserves what she gets!" he hissed. "I've read better fortune cookies," said Cass of Tom's statements, rising. Mike reeled from Carly's news and asked Carly to stay with Katie as he took off. Lia gave her statement to Margo, leaving out any mention of Maddie and then Casey talked to Margo, "not as a cop, but as my mom." Maddie downplayed her actions to Jade, who didn't buy it. "You rode into town on a lie," Maddie snorted at the hypocrite. Cass made Emily's case, mentioning how she'd saved Johnny's life. "Honey, what are you doing here?" Jennifer's ghost asked Dusty. "We were robbed," he told her. It wasn't over, Jen told him before vanishing, he still had Johnny — who was alive because of Emily. At court, Emily spoke on her own behalf and Paul piped up to assure that he'd be taking custody of her baby. Emily told the judge that knowing the first time she held her child might be the last was punishment enough. Jade warned Maddie about "slipping into a scary, dark place." Henry came in looking for a little sibling sympathy and realized that Maddie was in worse shape. Casey confided that Maddie was acting strange and Lia thought she started the fire. Margo promised not to drag Maddie down to the station and comforted her son, urging him to make the best of his summer before college.

Henry dropped his own angst and pulled a Dr. Phil on Maddie. "Stop worrying! Everything is fine!" she lied, kissing his cheek and running off. The judge gave Emily props for her new attitude, but he ruled that she was competent to enter a plea and be transferred into police custody. Smug Paul and Meg left as Cass advised Emily to plead guilty. Carly tried to buoy Katie's spirits about Mike's disappearing act and told her about her and Jack's split and her intention to start her own business. Mike thanked Nancy for her short notice help with a surprise. Moments later, Simon sauntered into the Lakeview bar. Katie welcomed Mike home with more smooches and Carly made herself scarce. Mike said he'd realized "how precious every moment is," and gave Katie a new wedding ring. "This one never comes off your finger." Simon told the Lakeview bartender he was in town for business and pleasure. Margo found Henry at Java and let slip about the arson. Maddie's been acting "kinda differently lately," she observed, giving Henry a heads up. Maddie returned to Crash, watched Lia kiss Casey, and flashed back on seeing a knife during her attack. All of a sudden, there was a knife in her hands! Defeated Emily realized that Cass was right: pleading guilty was her best bet. In the hall, Paul gloated, telling Dusty that it was over. "Get out of my way!" Dusty growled, storming into court. "I'm the victim! And I want to be heard!" he announced.

At Crash, deejaying Casey dedicated KT Tunstall's "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" to "my girl." A lurking Maddie thought said girl was a clingy Lia! Nearby, Kevin called over his girl and her very female friend Ada to entice Luke (good luck with that, Kev). At Java, Damian kept lending a supportive shoulder to Lucy, who had Dusty on the brain. "You did nothing wrong," he assured, happy to play guardian angel and telling her that Luke needed one, too. At the Lakeview, Dusty knocked back booze. Meg warily approached him while Barbara and Johnny opened the door to Paul. Uncle Paul held milk-chugging Johnny as Barbara wondered what troubled him. At the psych ward, an orderly came by announcing "Fresh sheets." Psych! It wasn't an orderly, it was Henry. "I figured you could use a friend tonight." Yeah, Emily could use one to help her get out. Lucy was bewildered to hear that Holden had pushed Luke away. "I can't see it!" she told Damian. Ada flirted with Luke, who wanted to bolt...especially when Kevin suggested they go out tomorrow. "Kevin, I'm not into girls!" he said. Lia kept angling for Casey as Maddie moped in the next room. Henry wasn't so hot on breaking Emily out and Emily pleaded for him to help. "I have to think about my child!" Barbara and Paul talked about Emily and Meg. "If you have to make a choice between Meg and your child, you will always choose your child," Barbara pointed out. Meg told Dusty it was a "nice service," and he bitterly thanked her for her boyfriend's "drama with Emily." Dusty had the bartender set Meg up with a drink, too.

Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie" punctuated Lia snaring Casey and then lording it over poor Maddie. Kevin misunderstood Luke's pronouncement, thinking he liked women and Luke caved to playing straight the next night. Jade chastised Luke for not 'fessing up. Damian painted his abstract Snyder family portrait for Lucy, who bought it. Meanwhile, Henry pushed his cart out of the psych ward. Back at Babs' pad, Barbara promised to testify under oath that Jen didn't want Emily near Paul's child. If he allowed that, "then I'd be the kind of parent that you are," Paul realized. At the bar, Meg talked to Dusty about Paul's struggle over Emily but Dusty was unmoved. Damian kept working Lucy until she agreed to ensure Luke and Lily could get alone time. "I am not taking relationship advice from you!" Paul told his mom. Well, he ought to! Barbara knew her stuff. "Don't you back down on Emily!" Meg tried to explain things to Dusty, who told her that she, Em, and Paul had taken time away from Jennifer. Henry and his linen cart made it down to the parking garage and he swept Emily out. Plan-less, she wanted to take his car and flee. Henry handed over an envelope of cash he'd gotten from betting on the ponies. As they hugged goodbye, Susan walked up! Oops!

Lia promised she'd be good to Casey, twisting the knife. Maddie scowled as Lia then pulled Casey into a slow dance. Susan told Henry to scoot and then dressed down Emily. "If you leave this time, you've got to go through me!" She hustled her daughter back upstairs. Barbara handed a sleeping Johnny over to Dusty (hopefully sobered up!) and as Dusty cradled the boy, a vision of Jennifer came to him. "I can't do this alone," he told her. "You will never be alone. I promise," she sighed, urging Dusty to forgive everyone or at least "let it go." In the outer space of Crash, Maddie had a bunch of her wonky flashbacks and tossed Lia's sweatshirt into a trashcan, lighting it. She ran as Jade cried, "Fire!" Damian told Luke he'd have more time with Lily and assured him that he'd always have his back. Susan and Em made it back to her room safely and Susan urged Emily to keep up her strength. Paul found a tipsy and ticked Meg at the Lakeview, who assured him that she took his side in her talk with Dusty...but that Dusty was right about them. Vision Jennifer told Dusty he'd be keeping a mother from her child if he condemned Emily. "How does that honor me? Does that give you peace?" she wondered. Dusty told her that he couldn't forgive any of them and never would!

At Java, Casey refused to let Maddie bolt again. They'd get to the bottom of things now. Tom came by the psych ward looking for Emily and Susan made a "Free Emily" pitch. Too bad Emily was being transferred to jail before her hearing tomorrow! Gwen finished up her song as Emily moped in the back of the church. The minister concluded the service while, outside, Lucy told Dusty, "I just wanted you to know that somebody understands." Dusty wasn't havin' it: "If you're looking for forgiveness, you're not gettin' any." Paul sneered at "noble Emily" showing up at the service, "I know what you're up to!" Susan blasted Tom, who pointed out, "your daughter brought this on herself!" Dallas suggested they leave Maddie alone and walked off. "Can you tell me what's going on?" Casey pleaded with Maddie. "My feelings haven't changed," she admitted, but, "I froze!" And it wasn't about Dallas. "Until I can control it...I can't be with anybody." All Em was asking for was a little consideration but Paul pointed out that a jailbird couldn't be a mom. "I feel like my heart has a hole in it," Hal told Margo. "Keep your children very close, that's the message here." Margo gave him a letter from Adam. "He's worried about his dad," she said, hugging him. Then, Carly brought Parker over to talk to him. Paul told Em that he and Meg were filing for sole custody. "You're too volatile, Emily. You're no longer fit to be a parent."

It had been Jen's decision to leave, Lucy reminded Dusty, and "maybe it was worth it to her." Sorry, but Dusty still wasn't havin' it. He stormed past Emily, ignoring her. Jack took Parker outside as Hal spoke to Carly. "When I think about all the time Jennifer missed with Johnny..." Carly whispered, "thank you," realizing that he wanted Parker to live with her. This brightened Parker's day. Now if only Jack would come home, too...(Sorry, Parker). Dusty angsted over Jen's Glamour Shot instead of going over to Barbara's with everyone else. Back at Java, Maddie wigged again and Casey tried to soothe her. "I'm going to keep trying because I love you...let's just start over." The plea didn't work: Maddie ran (again). It made for perfect timing for Casey's ex, Lia, to reappear. Emily returned to the hospital and Susan gave her the bad news: "You won't be coming back here." Emily shared her own: Paul was going for full custody and Dusty "won't even look at me." At the Lakeview, Meg told Paul that Emily had a point; Jennifer had wanted him to forgive her. At Barbara's, she thanked Will and Gwen for their support and reiterated her love for her son. "I'm going to release your trust fund to you, no strings," she told Will. Why?

Damian helped Lucy don her lab coat at Memorial and then she cried about Dusty all over his über-expensive lapels. Maddie came back to Java looking for her purse and Lia gave it to her...along with news that Casey had just asked her out. Outside Barbara's, a bummed and clueless Casey told Margo and Tom that he'd struck out with Maddie. Damian pulled out the courtly handkerchief and the stops, suggesting Lucy skip work and sit poolside with him and Luke at Fairwinds. Hmmm. Meanwhile, Meg pointed out that Paul was beginning to sound like he had when he kept Jennifer from Johnny. "It is my job to protect and to defend!" Paul told her. Well, Meg couldn't live with him going against Jen's dying wishes. At the nut hatch, Emily's quiet stillness scared Susan. When Susan left the room, Emily assured her baby it would all be okay. Barbara told Will she had no ulterior motives about his trust fund. "I want you to have a home. I want Gwen to have a home," she said, adding, "Now that I've lost my only daughter, it is so comforting to know that I have such a wonderful daughter-in-law." Babs then put her game face on to let in the rest of the mourners from the church. Hal brought cider for the kids and they all raised glasses of champagne. "I would like to make a toast to my beautiful daughter, my loving child," said Barbara. "To Jennifer," they all said, and drank. At the church, Dusty sat alone, staring at her picture.

(At the very end of the show, "In Loving Memory — Benjamin Hendrickson" flashed on the screen.)

"Time is irrelevant," Simon sighed, reminiscing about his and Katie's previous island adventures — until Mike showed up! Casey met up with Margo at Java before Jennifer's service, wanting to know what his mother had found out about Maddie. At the chapel, Will startled Maddie and then Gwen tried to question her pal about breaking up with Casey. Outside, Jack informed Carly that Parker was mad at God. At the hospital, Meg found Paul grappling with both Jen's death and forgiving Emily. In the psych ward, Hal came to see Emily. "I want to thank her for being my friend," Em said of Jennifer. Dusty came back to Jennifer's empty room, thinking of her, as Lucy walked in. (Uh-oh.) Snark ensued but Kim's arrival cut it short. "We've been down a long road, you and me," Em reminded Hal, weeping over Jen. "I need to say goodbye to her," she pleaded. Then maybe he could find a way. Nearby, Paul wondered if it was the perfect time to forgive Em, noting to Meg that all the women in his life are "either dead or crazy." Carly and Jack assured Parker that he was loved and lucky and they went into church together (new ground rules in place). Inside, Nancy and Lisa comforted Barbara and Maddie dodged Gwen's questions.

Margo flashed back on guessing Maddie was sexually assaulted, but kept mum, telling Casey not to let Maddie go. They ran into Jessica and Dallas on their way out. "It got awfully chilly in here," Jessica noted of Casey and Dallas' vibe. Mike and Katie reunited with kisses and then he lowered the boom: "You're surrounded by 5-star luxury, only Simon didn't want you to know it." D'oh! Simon tried to make excuses and Katie pointed out, "he's been great since we've been here!" "Baby, he's been scamming you." Weary Katie just didn't want to hear it, preferring to just leave with Mike. But as she went to say, "See ya, Simon," she tripped over a golf ball. "You are such a worthless liar! I hate you!" she cried. In church, Maddie gave Casey the cold shoulder and Paul wistfully admired Jen's photo collage. "She used to get me through this kind of stuff," Will sighed. "That's my job now," Gwen said. Dusty's arrival set everyone a little on edge and he gingerly sat down in the first pew. The minister started the service while, at the hospital, Lucy beat herself up for Jen's death. Dr. Bob told her to get over her issues. Back at church, Kim spoke about her beloved niece and Will got up when a broken Barbara couldn't: "Jen was the best part about this family and I'm not going to say goodbye to her, not now, not ever."

"Jennifer always saw the best in people, never the worst," Paul began, just as Emily walked in to the chapel. Paul kept talking, though, about his "horrible wrong" to Jen and trying to live "by the example that she has set." At the hospital, Lucy burned from Dr. Bob's "suck it up" lecture. Maddie zipped out while Lisa was speaking and Casey caught her at the door. "I love you," he told her. "Please don't run away." "Don't touch me!" she cried, fleeing. At Java, Dallas told Jessica that Maddie was "running from the truth." (That very moment, in fact.) Mike directed Katie to the path a mere 150 yards away. "You've been a great sport, Mike," Simon noted — just before Mike punched him in the face. "Can we call it even?" Simon wondered. "It's just a warning," Mike snarled. "I always tell people what's in my heart," Hal murmured. "I love my daughter. That's all I want to say. I love my Jennifer." The minister asked if anyone else cared to speak and Dusty finally got up. "My wife shouldn't have died and everybody here knows it," he spat before stalking off. Safely at the Tiki bar, Mike and Katie snuggled, toasted to enjoying their honeymoon, and wrote off Simon. Alone, Simon found Katie's lost wedding ring. Casey followed Maddie to Java and she found herself trapped between him and Dallas. Finally, in church, Gwen sang "Stay" by Alison Krauss a cappella over a montage of Jennifer/Dusty moments (when Dusty had more hair). Dusty teared up outside and came face-to-face with Lucy.

Mike and Vienna flashed flyers of Katie around a beach resort as, elsewhere, Simon fashioned a shelter for himself and Katie. She nixed any hopes of them "spooning" in it, though. "I just want to make you comfortable," the Aussie protested. At Carly's, Will shared memories of Jen with Jade and then left for Jen's service with Gwen. Carly answered the door to Jack, who was there to pick up Parker. "You can't keep popping in like this!" she admonished. Jack boggled about Jade moving in. "She's bad news, Carly! You gotta get rid of her!" Meanwhile, Meg found Paul at Java and he shared a story about Jen getting braces. At the hospital, Hal and Barbara were horrified to realize that Dusty was sitting vigil with Dead Jen. "Dusty, it's time to finish saying your good-byes," Hal urged. The coast guard captain assured Mike and Vienna that the search for Simon and Katie was on and irked Mike by implying that "Skatie" had skedaddled together. Katie dashed Simon's hopes of their third time being a "charm." Simon offered to help look for her lost wedding ring to keep her from finding the resort. Carly was amused by Jack passing his edict. "She's got no place to go," she defended of Jade. Hal emerged from Jen's room having made no headway with Dusty. How could he and Barbara explain to Dusty that Jennifer was no longer in that bed but in their hearts? Gwen and Will arrived to an empty chapel and impulsively opted to put the memorial together themselves. Paul and Meg decided to go to Jen's service despite Dusty potentially kicking Paul's butt. Frazzled Barbara told Paul via phone that Dusty still hadn't left Jen's side. "This is all the proof you need," Meg warned Paul. "This is not the day to get in Dusty's face."

Will and Gwen picked through stacks of pictures. "I can't do this," gasped Will. "I can't pick up where she left off!" Gwen comforted her hubby, assuring him she'd never leave him. In Milltown, Carly told her soon-to-be-ex, "Oh back off, Jack! Just back the hell off. You have zip to say about what goes on here!" Back at Memorial, Paul arrived to try and convince Dusty to let Jen go. Hal was skeptical about this tactic, but he and Babs left for the church anyway. Paul stalked into Jen's room, deliberately needling Dusty. His golfer pal from last week found Simon. The Aussie made up a story about his wife and a deserted island fantasy, shooing the golfer away right before Katie returned. Meanwhile, the coast guard called off the search, needing manpower for a ferry accident...leaving Mike bummed. Inappropriately-dressed Jade arrived at the church to talk to Gwen and Will. "Get outta here, Man," Dusty growled at Paul. "Jennifer's dead. She's not coming back," Paul replied, harshly propelling Dusty out of his chair and into action (good going!). Carly set new ground rules for Jack. "You've put our marriage behind you. It's time I did the same."

Simon did a good snow (sand?) job to allay Katie's suspicions, pitching a fit about how ungrateful his ex was acting. He apologized when Katie got emotional and she relented that they did have to work together. In a Tiki bar, Mike grumbled about "that worthless Aussie snake," and piqued the interest of...Simon's golfer pal! "I think I know where he is." Carly and Jack hashed out their awkward new situation and how they were still drawn to each other. "I still feel like we're married. Like we always will be," Jack sighed. Jade wondered if Gwen could find her a new crash pad (as if this is the time for that?) since Jack wasn't so hot on her staying with Carly. She split right as Barbara arrived. "It's beautiful," Babs whispered of the chapel, hugging Will and Gwen. At the hospital, Paul's tough love (okay, tough hate) got Dusty talking. "I wish I could stop time," he admitted. "Then Johnny wouldn't grow up," Paul countered, insightfully. "Don't linger over this shell. Jennifer's moved on." Simon's golfer pal spilled the beans to Mike and Vienna even as Simon assured Katie, "I'm not going to let you down. This time is different." In Milltown, Jack likened his pull to Carly to a chocolate addiction. Parker cut short the walk down (Hershey's) Memory Lane. Paul called Meg to let her know that he'd gotten through to Dusty. At the chapel, the priest told Will that his CD player was on the fritz. Oh, no! Barbara saved the day, though, asking Gwen if she'd "sing for my daughter today?" They embraced as Will contemplated a picture of his sis. At the hospital, Dusty said one last goodbye to Jen before her body was taken away.
