ATWT Recaps Week of July 17, 2006

After Maddie's heads-up, Gwen wasn't happy about Will throwing his newfound cash Jade's way. Gwen argued that money was the root of all evil. (Actually, it's "the love of money," but we quibble.) Will then claimed that she had nothing to worry about with him and Jade. Will brushed off Maddie's paranoia and Gwen groused that it would've been nice if he'd run his plan to fund Jade's digs by her. Will described his hug with Jade as a "nothing hug," and Gwen was glad to hear it. "I know there's no way you'd ever lie to me again." Gwen and Will twinkled about life as collegiate marrieds. "We can share the last strand of spaghetti, Lady and the Tramp-style," Will mused. They could get some pasta for tonight: "Woof!"
Lia taunted Maddie, saying she and Casey were planning to skinny-dip at the country club pool. Maddie called Casey, but Lia hung up the phone. Lia then tried to entice Casey with a "hot, steamy shower." Weepy Maddie snagged a knife from the counter inside Crash.... At the club, Casey turned down the offer to shower with a very topless Lia, but he followed her to the showers and told her to grab her stuff so they could go. He pulled away, when she dropped her towel and got under the spray.
Outside the cottage, Simon bounced back from Mike's punch, snarking, "I love what you've done with the place." He told Mike and Katie that he was flush with cash and sticking around. Simon explained to the Kasnoffs how he'd struck oil in Australia and was a "simple innocent businessman." Mike and Katie questioned Simon's motives about partnering with Carly. Katie pleaded with Simon to stay away from them. "I don't want to have to run into you around town and make chitchat," she admitted, choking up. She un-choked when Mike emerged from requesting a background check on the Aussie, sniping, "Back off, is that clear?"
Jack ushered Luke into the OPD and, naturally, Damian sauntered in to manipulate the situation. Luke explained his sense of being an outsider to Damian, wishing he could go to a galaxy far, far away (Oh, wait, wrong Luke!). Nearby, Jack told Damian to make sure Luke stuck around till Holden arrived for the arraignment. Later, Holden learned that Damian had pushed through Luke's arraignment without him. Holden snarled at his "Super Dad" routine. "Dad, lay off Damian!" Luke ordered. Holden tried to point out Damian's schemes to Luke, but it didn't work. "Don't even put this on Damian! This is all on you!" Holden admitted he'd made mistakes with Luke. "I want you home," he whispered. "Come home." Luke apologized for drinking and driving but he couldn't quite face all the baggage right now. Damian just barely kept his victory dance in check and suggested Luke, "come back to Malta with me."
At the Lakeview, Carly's credit situation warranted contacting Lisa. Lisa informed Carly she'd take a personal check. No dice. Well, did Jack know she was in a bad way? "This is my problem, not Jack's!" Carly cried ... as Jack walked in. Carly wasn't thrilled that Lisa had called Jack about her "cash-flow problem." Jack tried forking over the dough, but Carly wasn't havin' it. She'd find a way to pay for the champagne. Carly told him, "I appreciate you coming to my rescue, but you don't have to do it anymore!" She offered to work off her tab by washing dishes, thus boggling the minds of Jack and Lisa. Lisa wasn't sold on Carly's idea (apparently her dishwashers are unionized) but Carly refused to take no for an answer. "I won't offer my help again," Jack warned Carly, softly, before she went off to the kitchen. Carly thanked Lisa for being an Ethel to her Lucy and helping her finish the dishes. They decided to finish the bubbly, too. But what would Carly do to make ends meet? Naturally, Simon strolled in....
Lia heard footsteps and re-invited Casey into the shower. But, lo, it was a figure clad in black, wielding a knife. Oh, no! In a gory, slo-mo scene that was Psycho meets Fatal Attraction, Lia sank down against the tile ....

Mike hasn't forgotten that Katie's house began life as the Frasier Cottage, her dream home with Simon. To that end, he was hoping to make some renovations (a deck) to turn it into the Kasnoff Cottage. He then guided her into a sort of Zen introduction to wood texture, while also laying out his plan for their perfect future.
Carly got an e-mail from "some big shot" who wants to back her new company and excitedly called Katie to tell her about her upcoming meeting with the mysterious benefactor-to-be at the Lakeview — to her surprise, it turned out to be Simon. "You are a dead man, Frasier," she snapped. "Yeah, I've heard that a few times before," he responded, before admitting that he overheard her conversation with the bank officer and he believes her business has potential. He offered to invest, but a skeptical Carly wanted nothing to do with him, because she suspected him of trying to win back Katie, who she described as "a very good friend." He insisted that he was just putting down roots in town and furthermore, he doubts she'll ever get the money she needs from anyone else. She rejected him once more, then tattled to Katie, who was also suspicious of Simon's ulterior motives and ran off to tell Mike before someone else did. She was too late: Simon showed up at his old stomping grounds, where a shirtless Mike was hammering away. Upon hearing Simon's plans to stay in town, Mike didn't waste much time in punching him again. That's when a waiter delivered some celebratory champagne that Carly had ordered prior to seeing Simon, but her card was rejected and cut in half by the waiter.
Maddie was waiting with Eve and Henry for her bail to be set when she asked for a cell phone to call Casey. But her siblings strongly discouraged that idea, saying that the lawyers had forbidden it. Eve first blamed Henry for what's happening, then apologized to Maddie for letting Maddie down and promised to stick around for awhile. Meanwhile, Casey joined Lia as Margo followed up with questions about the vandalism of her car. Together, Margo and Casey urged Lia to drop the charges against Maddie until she finally relented, noting that she's still scared of Maddie right now. Margo promised to keep the other girl away from Lia, and also forbade Casey from seeing his ex. Margo then elicited a promise from Maddie that she would get counseling and stop seeing Casey. Lia then cajoled a reluctant Casey into agreeing to meet her for a midnight skinny dip with her at the club.
Gwen and Will broke it to Jade that they would be moving into their own swanky place now that he has his trust fund. Will bristled when Jade noted that they were now "rich." When she somewhat insincerely congratulated them, they realized that Jade was now homeless. Gwen offered to put in a word with Carly, but Jade respectfully declined. In private later, a genuinely concerned Will tried to give his former one-night-stand some cash. She saw his offer as a bribe, but Will sincerely said that he knows that Jade is too good a person to ever tell Gwen what happened between them and convinced her to take the money. They ended with a hug, which Maddie walked up on. She angrily demanded to know what was going on, but Gwen interrupted, Jade took her leave, and Maddie was too distracted by her zeal to find Casey anyway. She did try to tell Gwen that Will and Jade looked guilty, but Gwen gently suggested that perhaps Maddie misinterpreted things. She also urged her not to go after Casey, but Maddie wasn't in the mood to listen and started dialing her ex. Next, she ran into Lia, who called her a "nutjob." Inside Crash, Will proudly told his wife that he did "a good deed in [her] honor," which made Gwen a little insecure.
Lucy had some good news for Holden: Lily's baby is out of the breech position. Neither of them had heard the bad news yet: Luke crashed his car while drunk driving (in spite of his stolen kidney). Jack found him and phoned Holden, who rushed to the scene in time to see his son get arrested. Before a livid Holden could really get into his argument with Luke, Lucy called to say that Lily was back in danger. Enter Damian, who agreed to go to the police station to help out Luke.

As Carly learned from Mike and Katie that Simon was back in town, the Aussie was at the Lakeview being dumped by an annoyed Vienna, who got a passionate kiss from him before leaving for more exciting locales. At the cottage, Katie confidently told Mike that she thinks Simon has finally moved on. Meanwhile, Carly arrived at the Lakeview for a nervous meeting — in full view of Simon — with a loan officer about her proposed design firm. She was devastated to be turned down because she had a bad credit rating and no husband to co-sign, and called Mike and Katie to report the bad news. Simon listened intently and watched her leave. Carly then went back to the cottage, where Katie and Mike interrupted their romantic night to comfort her. Mike offered to help out, then told her she had "about five more seconds of self-pity left." Katie assured her that there's surely some risk-taking visionary out there who would jump at the chance to work with her. At the same time, Simon picked up Carly's discarded business card.
Henry, along with his sister Eve (with whom Maddie apparently lived in Chicago), showed up to support the teen at the police station. Together with Margo and Dallas, they finally coaxed Maddie into confessing what happened to her in Chicago: she was drugged and raped by an unknown assailant at a frat party. All she could remember (but she didn't tell them) was someone saying "It was fun." Margo wouldn't let them take her home — Maddie was charged with criminal destruction of property.
Luke's date came on to him and offered him alcohol. When he turned her down, she suggested they just talk instead. They were interrupted by Kevin, who came outside hoping to borrow a condom, which Luke couldn't provide. Once he went back inside, Luke took the bottle and started drinking. Meanwhile, Holden and Damian got into it at the hospital with Lucy trying to mediate, when Bob interrupted to report the baby is in breech, which could cause serious complications — including death — for Lily and her child. Holden insisted on finding Luke immediately, but Damian didn't know his whereabouts. But after a brief kiss with his date, an inebriated Luke had driven off, continuing to drink while having flashbacks. Lucinda left her grandson "a very strong message," while Holden stayed with Lily and Lucy warned Damian not to put her in the middle of his battles with Holden again. In his car, Luke listened to Lucinda's voicemail and crashed.

Luke arrived for his secret visit with Lily at the hospital, which Damian admitted he'd arranged with Lucy's help. At Java, Lucy stalled Holden by joining him for a cup of coffee to "catch up." She phoned Damian to warn him that Holden would be on his way soon, but also to say that she feels uncomfortable about keeping Holden and Luke apart, because she still believes that the father and son should talk. Lucy urged Holden to reach out to Luke, whose speech to his comatose mother indicated that he and Holden simply had a misunderstanding about each other's feelings. Damian then seemed pleased to learn that Luke had plans to go on a double date with Kevin (and two girls), so he gave him money. Holden arrived soon after and had another tense moment with Damian, who defended his actions to Lucy.
Maddie didn't remember trashing Lia's car, but was about to tell Casey the truth about her troubles when Margo and Dallas arrived and demanded details about the crime scene. Casey told his mother what happened as Jade told Gwen that Maddie lied about the fire. Casey defended his ex-girlfriend, who was arrested as Lia sobbed and fretted about Maddie being after her because she's jealous. Casey didn't know what to think, and told Gwen that he wasn't that interested in Lia and that he'd "go back to Maddie in a heartbeat." At the station, both Dallas and Margo tried to get Maddie to open up. She had another flashback, this time of a knife, then of Lia kissing Casey. Margo then told Maddie that she believes Maddie was sexually assaulted. A shocked Henry — along with their other sister, Eve — showed up.
Paul announced his intention to keep Emily away from their child, but she claimed she wasn't worried. Paul then confronted Dusty, who stood by his decision to honor Jennifer's wish by letting Emily off the hook, as Susan urged Em to "make the most of this fresh start," also in Jen's memory. The mother and daughter then joined Cass for a celebratory drink. At the Lakeview, Em ran into Henry, who was delighted to hear of her release. She also took a moment to thank Dusty, but he said he would never forgive her. Meanwhile, Meg begged Paul to drop his vendetta against Emily and concentrate on their relationship, or else he'll lose her. Dusty met with Barbara, who said that she would do one good thing every day in Jennifer's memory, and told him about Will's trust fund. He told her about Emily, which angered Babs. Dusty insisted that it was what Jennifer wanted.

Will and Gwen discussed their money woes at the coffee shop. Luckily Barbara stopped by then, and revealed that she was going to turn over his trust fund that day. Jessica brought over the papers, but Will still didn't believe he was going to get the money. Barbara signed the paperwork and wished them all the happiness in the world. Gwen had no idea what to do with all that money, but they finally decided to look for a new place to live. Will suggested they start a charity in Jennifer's name to benefit sick children. Gwen headed to work.
Jade came into Crash as Maddie was pointing a large knife in Casey and Lia's direction. Maddie managed to distract Jade, as she tucked the knife into her bag. She stormed out when she saw Lia hug Casey. Outside, Maddie slipped into another vague flashback. When she came to, she found that she was stabbing the seat of a car, Lia looked out the window, and was shocked to see Maddie destroying her car. Casey tried to pull Maddie away, but she pointed the knife at him, screaming, "Don't touch me!" over and over. Maddie fell to the ground, clutching her bleeding hand. Casey tried to calm her down, while Lia, Jade and a recently arrived Gwen watched.
Katie and Mike tenderly kissed and talked about how happy they were to be home. They headed out to the Lakeview for dinner. Also at the Lakeview were Simon and Lucinda who were catching up. Simon managed to avoid Katie and Mike, and later told Lucinda that he was going to make Oakdale his home base so he could make money. Later, Katie and Mike returned home and received a package from Simon, containing Katie's original ring that she lost on the island. Katie thought this meant that Simon was going to let them move on with their lives.
Emily pleaded not guilty at her competency hearing. Dusty refused to cooperate, so the charges were dropped, until Paul stepped forward and ripped open his shirt to reveal his gunshot wound. Cass told Emily to keep quiet about the wound, since most people assumed that Paul had attempted suicide. The judge still dropped the charges because there wasn't enough evidence to convict Emily on anything. Susan and Emily celebrated Em's freedom. Paul told her that he wouldn't let her hurt their child.
