Shane complained that nobody ever listens to him and lamented his loss of Phoebe, and noted that nobody cares about what happens to him. "No one's even going to care if I'm dead, whether I live or whether I die....so, to hell with everybody. I'm done," Shane declared, as he prepared to shoot himself. Ridge intervened, and the two struggled over the pistol. Stephanie and Ashley heard a gunshot while still inside Ashley's lab. Stephanie thought the noise was the freight elevator. Ridge was horrified as Shane stood up and then collapsed from a mortal gunshot wound. Ridge ran to call the police but hesitated when he picked up the phone as he recalled his trial for the shooting of Grant Chambers, and how the judge showed leniency then but warned he would go to prison for life if ever convicted of another gun-related offense. Ridge then closed the door to his office and assessed the situation. Back at her lab, Ashley waited for Ridge while he stuffed Shane into a garment bag. Stephanie left a message for Ridge on his cell phone as she walked to her car in the garage. From inside her car she spotted Ridge dumping the garment bag in his car and speeding off. Stephanie buckled up and sped after him in hot pursuit. Ashley looked for Ridge in his office and decided to wait there for him. Stephanie was aghast at how fast Ridge was driving. Ridge parked at a desolate location along the harbor and dragged the body/bag onto the pier. Stephanie watched and wondered what could be in the bag. Stephanie received a call from Ashley back at his office asking if she had seen Ridge. Stephanie covered and told Ashley Ridge had a business emergency. Ridge dragged Shane's body/bag onto the Marlin, and started the boat's engines with the key he remembered was inside the coffee can. As Ridge took the boat out to sea Stephanie wondered where in the world Ridge was going. Once out to sea, Ridge weighted Shane's body bag down and tossed it overboard into the water.

Taylor eagerly met Nick for dinner at a restaurant. Nick told Taylor how Shane had stopped by the office and Nick threw him out. Lt. Baker saw them at the restaurant and said hello. Taylor told Lt. Baker about how Shane has been harassing her. Lt. Baker wondered if Shane's interest was truly unwanted. Nick got annoyed at Lt. Baker's inability to do anything and resolved to take care of Shane himself. Taylor thanked Nick for trying to get through to Lt. Baker on her behalf. Nick told her he'd join her at home after he made a pit stop at the Marlin.

Rick spoke to Taylor about his and Phoebe's disagreement over whether Taylor or Brooke belongs with Nick. Rick pleased his case that Nick is still in love with his mother. Brooke arrived and overheard Rick and asked him to leave so she and Taylor can settle things amongst themselves. Brooke informed Taylor that she knows Taylor is not pregnant. Brooke pleaded for Taylor's help to prevent an all-out war between Rick and Ridge. Taylor begged off of any "peace plan" Brooke is trying to cook up between Rick and Ridge. Brooke insisted that Taylor help her to get Rick to see the good in Ridge, and reminded her of Grant Chambers and how Ridge stepped up to protect Rick during that time. Brooke asked Taylor for her professional advice: Should she tell Rick what Ridge did for him years ago, or not? Taylor warned that bringing this up to Rick now would be devastating to him emotionally.

In her lab Ashley reviewed a past "chemistry" lesson when she fondly recalled a night of unforgettable passion with Rick while in Paris. Ashley's amorous daydream was interrupted by Stephanie, who wanted to compliment her on all the fragrances she's been developing for them. Stephanie inquired about the dinner Ashley was planning to have with Ridge, and suggested that maybe she arrived in Ridge's life at the perfect time. Ashley tried to politely dampen down Stephanie's expectations where she and her son are concerned. Stephanie then inquired if there was another man in Ashley's life now — perhaps Victor Newman? Ashley politely called Stephanie on her prying. Stephanie made overtures to get to know Ashley better.

Elsewhere at Forrester Originals, Ridge advised Shane not to do anything stupid while Shane kept his pistol trained on Ridge. Ridge's comments only provoked Shane further. Shane taunted Ridge at gunpoint, and asked Ridge if he's ever had to live out of his car. Shane expressed envy at Ridge's life and wealth. "You've got a freakin' jet man — I've got nothing!" Shane declared. Ridge called Shane a loser and told him there a lot of people a lot worse off than he is. Ridge shifted tactics and tried to sympathize with Shane, and shared some of his own personal troubles. Ridge offered to help Shane if he put the gun down. Shane asked him what kind of "help." Ridge said not to worry about it. Shane unraveled and said if he can't have Phoebe then nothing else matters, and became angry when Ridge proceeded to pick up the phone to summon "help." Shane demanded that Ridge put the phone down. Ridge finally complied. On the Marlin, Phoebe lamented how obsessive and insistent Shane has become in wanting to see her. Ridge told Phoebe Shane would have followed her to the boat if he hadn't stopped him. Ridge threatened to get a restraining order placed on him if he bothers Phoebe again. Phoebe felt grateful for her father's protection.

Ridge called Ashley at work to apologize for kissing her. Ashley said it was fine, they're both adults. Ridge asked her out for dinner. Ashley agreed and asked him to pick her up at the lab. Brooke entered and inquired who she was making dinner plans with. Brooke was stunned when Ashley told her Ridge. Ashley assured her it wasn't a "date," just two friends sharing a meal. Brooke said she was happy Ridge has a friend in Ashley but warned her how vulnerable Ridge is right now. Brooke then detected a definite attraction for Ridge on Ashley's part. Brooke warned Ashley not to rush into things.

Shane begged his boss by phone for one last chance to prove himself. He promised to not let him down and vowed to come through this time. He then held up a photo of Phoebe and kissed it. "This is for us," he muttered.

At Forrester Creations, Jackie, Storm and Donna were gratified by the success their hard work has generated. Shane barged in on their meeting and made a sales pitch for his waste management and recycling business. When Storm told him they already had a waste and recycling vendor Shane exploded, then apologized. Nick walked in and shut down Shane's presentation. Nick reiterated his demand that Shane stay clear of Taylor and Phoebe. Shane told everyone to go to hell. Nick grabbed him by the collar and threw him out of the office. Shane attacked Nick in the elevator but Nick punched him out and sent the elevator downstairs. Brooke arrived to visit Nick. She expressed her condolences to Nick for Taylor not being pregnant, but told Nick she's not sorry for them, because she knows he really wants to be with her. Nick said just because he and Taylor didn't get pregnant yet doesn't mean they want to stop trying. Nick told her he and Taylor have set a wedding date. Brooke was surprised that Nick really loves Taylor that much. She asked Nick to allow himself to think about what they could have again. Nick rebuffed her latest attempt to get him back.

Shane called Phoebe frantically and told him the account he had hoped to get fell through today and he desperately needs her help. Ridge and Phoebe listened to him on speaker. Ridge intervened and told Shane to stay away from his daughter. Shane flipped out in his car and stared as Phoebe's photo. Shane surprised Phoebe at Forrester Originals and pleaded for her to have a change of heart. Shane exploded when Phoebe didn't tell him what he wanted to hear. Phoebe asked Shane to leave or else she'd call security. Shane told her he still loves her and walked out. Phoebe called security and told them that Shane was leaving the building and is never allowed to return. Shane doubled back to talk to Phoebe again, only to find Ridge, not Phoebe, in the office. Shane blamed Ridge for turning Phoebe against him with his lies. Ridge told Shane to leave the building and leave town ASAP or he'll call the police. Shane freaked out and insisted all he ever wanted to be was a friend to their family. As Shane unleashed his tirade onto Ridge he pulled his gun on him.

Taylor kept her eyes closed as she waited for Nick to announce the results of her pregnancy test, but poor Nick couldn't make heads or tails of it. Taylor opened her eyes and examined it, and was upset to realize she wasn't pregnant. Nick tried to console her. Taylor told Nick how important it is for her to be able to give him his first child. Nick reassured her things were OK and that everything will happen in due time. In light of the negative test results, Taylor offered Nick an out in their relationship, which took Nick aback. He sternly insisted that what he wants is Taylor, not Brooke. Taylor pointed out that he didn't have a choice when Brooke broke up with him, but now that she's begging him to come back he does have a choice, and she wants him to make it. Nick agreed maybe it was wise for them to take a step back and reassess things. He pulled out his PDA and showed her a date on it: "This is our wedding date. How does it sound?" Taylor was overjoyed when she told him yes.

Stephanie told Brooke if she wanted to learn the results of Taylor's pregnancy test she should ask herself. When Brooke decided to go visit them Stephanie was horrified. Stephanie offered to call and find out if Brooke promised to leave Nick and Taylor alone. Brooke agreed to do so but only if Taylor was preggers. Stephanie called and tried to pump Taylor, who was in no mood. Nick grabbed the phone out of her hand and hung up on Stephanie. Brooke surmised from Taylor's bad mood that she's not pregnant and was delighted at the prospect that Nick is still free to have what he really wants — her. Stephanie was exasperated by Brooke's one-track-mindedness where busting up Nick and Taylor was concerned.

Shane annoyed Phoebe by approaching her again, asking her for her support. Shane told her he's desperate to get his confidence back, and asked her if her family could pick up a recycling account to help him at his job. As Shane begged for her professional and personal assistance, Ridge arrived on the scene and confronted Shane, asking him if he's stalking his daughter. Shane defended himself to a skeptical Ridge, who told Shane it would be best if he left Phoebe alone. Shane rammed into a waitress and knocked over her tray as he stormed out of the restaurant. From his car Shane scribbled a note he had planned to leave for Phoebe. When he saw her leave the restaurant he opened his car door to chase after her but was stopped by Ridge. Ridge leaned into Shane's car through the driver's window and laid down the law, declaring that Phoebe is off limits and threatening to make Shane's life a living hell if he doesn't agree to leave his daughter alone. While Ridge berated Shane, Shane reached for a pistol on the passenger seat.
