Hope came home from the hospital and after she went upstairs with the nanny, Nick wondered where Bridget has been. He pointed out that she saw him spend a lot of time Brooke. "We've been spending time with Hope," Brooke corrected. Nick then set up a romantic setting in the living room with dim lights and burning candles for Bridget, which impressed Brooke, who came downstairs after changing out of that hoodie dress she's been wearing for days (Nick, however, was still in his stale duds). They started getting close as they discussed Hope's ordeal. "I'd walk through fire for that girl, and her mom," Nick proclaimed. More dreamy stares were exchanged. "You'll find that special someone," Nick whispered as they gazed lovingly into each other's eyes.

Stephanie successfully convinced Bridget of all the heartache Brooke has caused her daughter. Bridget started to fault herself again but Stephanie wouldn't hear of it. "Don't take the anger you have for your mother and turn it on yourself," Steph advised. "Move on with your own life without Nick." Bridget just got more and more depressed over her situation and sobbed when she gazed at a photo of her and Nick. "I can't believe it's over," Bridget whined. "I love him so much. He's everything to me." Bridget then had to sit down because she was feeling sick. "You don't think you could be pregnant, do you?" Stephanie asked as a look of horror came over Bridget's face.

Bridget sought sanctuary at the Big Bear cabin but was still tormented and confused. Nick tried to call her cell phone but she wouldn't answer. His voicemail that he loved her gave Bridget little comfort as she flashbacked to Nick and Brooke being tight with each other at the hospital during Hope's medical crisis. Bridget was about to leave when Stephanie unexpectedly showed up. Steph observed how agitated Bridget was and asked if something happened between her and Nick. Stephanie was upset to hear that Hope almost drowned and no one bothered to call her. She then pressed for the source of Bridget's emotional state. She reluctantly confessed her doubts about Nick and Brooke. When Stephanie angrily blasted Brooke's irresponsibility, Bridget blamed herself for getting involved with men who love her mother. "There's something wrong with me," Bridget declared but Steph insisted Brooke was at fault. "Mothers are supposed to protect us," Stephanie explained. "Your mother has abused you psychologically and emotionally...if you don't face this truth, I'm really concerned what's gonna happen to you." Bridget finally admitted that her stepmother was right.

Thomas and his twin sisters visited Hope in the hospital. The doctor entered and announced that the little patient could be released today. Hope asked if she could go swimming again and Nick declared she was "the bravest little girl." After Thomas and the girls left, Nick apologized to Hope for being negligent in watching her. "I promise I'll never look away ever again," he vowed. "We love you so much." Hope pardoned Nick and they hugged as Brooke happily watched. Nick and Brooke couldn't help but exchange dreamy looks with each other.

Bridget was devastated to observe the closeness between Nick and Brooke as they cooed over a now-conscious Hope. The doctor was optimistic by the tot's turnaround so Nick and Brooke celebrated with a loving embrace. "You and this little girl mean everything to me," he admitted. Nick left the room and found Bridget waiting outside. He lamented how tragedies like this can tear families apart in mere seconds. "Or bring them together," Bridget curiously noted. Nick urged Bridget to visit Hope while he went to make some phone calls. When he was gone, Bridget had an anxiety attack over her suspicions about Nick and Brooke. "He loves me, he loves me," she repeated to herself. "He proposed to me."

Eric informed a relieved Jackie that Hope was okay. Jackie was encouraged to hear that Nick was with Brooke. Jackie apologized to Eric for all the pain she caused by exposing Stephanie's heart attack charade but he didn't blame her for his wife's machinations. Jackie was surprised to hear that Eric no longer supported Bridget and Nick's relationship. When he stated how hard it was for any man to get over Brooke, Jackie suspected he was speaking about himself. Since Eric was going to Chicago on business, he asked Jackie to keep an eye on Bridget. Eric confessed that he failed to protect his daughter because of his feelings for Brooke. "If she loses another man to her mother, it might send her over the edge," Eric fretted.

Nick came back to Hope's room and was surprised to hear that Bridget never stopped in. Brooke started to blame herself for Hope's brush with death because she never had the spa drain properly checked. "I just want to go home and focus on the future," she smiled to Nick. They were overjoyed as Hope counted to 10, while Bridget continued to lurk outside and stress over their coziness.

Brooke was thrilled when Hope murmured, "Mommy," but was stunned to learn from Hector that Nick had saved her little girl's life by performing CPR. Brooke was encouraged when the doctor announced that Hope was breathing on her own. Without opening her eyes, the tot called for Nick. Hector advised Brooke to update Nick but she admitted that she ordered him to leave the hospital. Hector told her that Nick never left, he's been praying in the chapel.

In the chapel, Nick continued to pray for Hope's recovery. "She's the light of everybody's life," he begged. "I'll do anything not to change that. You can't take her." Brooke walked in and overheard Nick's tearful pleas. He was thrilled when Brooke told him that Hope was asking for him. "You should be there," Brooke urged.

Eric visited Bridget at the hospital where she was continuing her medical studies. He revealed his proposal to Brooke. "Just a couple of weeks ago she was talking about getting back together with Ridge," Bridget curiously noted. Eric explained that he was turned down but would persist to make it happen in order to keep Brooke away from Nick. Bridget was upset that Dad thought the worse about her fiancè but Eric pointed to the bond Nick and Brooke shared over Hope. "He loves Hope like his own daughter," Eric reminded. Bridget broke down in tears but Eric insisted Nick is still in love with Brooke. "You're my father, you're supposed to support me," Bridget wailed but Eric said that Brooke can't control the hold she has on men. After Eric left, Hector showed up and informed Bridget about Hope's near drowning. "My mother must be terrified," Bridget cried and ran to find Brooke.

Nick and Brooke were elated when Hope opened her eyes. He then begged for Brooke's forgiveness, which she granted. They embraced as Bridget watched from the hallway.

Monday, August 8, 2005
At Brooke's house, Hector discovered Hope's hair attached to the Jacuzzi drain. In the hospital, a desperate Brooke talked an unconscious Hope into squeezing her hand again. While looking through the window, Nick called for help. Brooke left the room in order for the doc to examine Hope. In the waiting room, Brooke blamed Nick for her daughter's near-drowning. "I can't stand to look at you," she blasted. "I'd love to trade places with that little girl 'cause she's like my flesh and blood...I will give her my life," he assured. Brooke told Nick he is no longer welcome around her daughter. She returned to Hope's room for an update. The doctor told her things are looking up. Alone with Hope, Brooke encouraged her to be strong and pull through. Hector walked in and tried to comfort Brooke. He informed her that the drain cover was broken and caught Hope's hair. The paramedic then explained how to prevent such an accident. Brooke blamed herself for not checking the drain. Just as Brooke was vowing she wouldn't let anything hurt Hope again, the little girl began to wake up.

In the hospital chapel, Nick had a flashback to Hope in the water. Jackie walked in and provided a shoulder for her son to cry on. He tearfully explained what happened. "You saved her life," Jackie said proudly. But Nick pointed out that he's the reason Hope is in a coma. Jackie told her son not to torment himself; it was an accident. She said Hope and Brooke need him now more than ever. Nick prayed, "Don't take that little angel. Give her back to her mother. Give her back to Brooke. Please."
