Hector's friend at the police department told him that Shane has a prior record — he was booked for theft in L.A. and there's a restraining order against him in Atlanta. Hector was pleased that he had the goods on Shane. In his room, Shane reveled in his new digs, and decided that his original plan to blackmail Taylor for $1 million is aiming too low. Out at the pool Phoebe apologized to Harry for missing their date and explained what happened with Shane. Shane interrupted their conversation by calling her on her cell phone asking for help. After tending to him, Shane asked Phoebe if she could stay awhile and keep him company. Shane complimented Phoebe for being such a nice person, with a nice smile. After Phoebe left Shane laid back on his bed and fantasized about Phoebe. Downstairs, Hector ran into Harry. Believing him to be Shane, Hector threatened him if he didn't pack his bags and split. Hector apologized when Harry identified himself. When Phoebe returned Hector asked to speak to her alone, so Harry excused himself. Hector tried to warn Phoebe that Shane is trouble. Hector then handed a disbelieving Phoebe the fax of Shane's record to look at, while Shane observed them from a distance.

Felicia told Bridget getting an abortion is a huge mistake. Bridget bristled and said she'd never have an abortion. She insisted she'd never go after her mother's boyfriend, but decided she has to tell her mother the truth. Bridget refused to do what Brooke did when Brooke was pregnant with Deacon's baby, and made a beeline for Brooke's. Brooke and Nick flirted over coffee when DONNA entered. After Nick headed out Brooke demanded to know what happened between Donna and Ridge in Europe. Donna said she returned alone because Ridge wanted to spend some more time with Steffy. Donna asked Brooke point blank if she's done with Ridge. Brooke asked why she wants to know. Donna informed Brooke that she's not sleeping with Ridge — yet — but needs to know that she's let Ridge go for good. Brooke sheepishly confirmed that she expects to have a long happy marriage with Nick. Donna was happy to hear that Brooke wouldn't stand in the way of her happiness with Ridge. As the two sisters hugged, Bridget walked in and overheard Donna reassuring Brooke that Nick would never let her down. After Donna went upstairs Bridget entered, and told Brooke she's no longer going to Africa. Bridget nervously embarked on a lengthy preamble, preparing to tell her mother the truth about sleeping with Nick. Bridget got emotional and told Brooke she's done something and she prays to God that her mother will be able to forgive her. An uneasy Brooke told Bridget to just spit it out.

As Christian reviewed Bridget's test results an impatient Bridget pleaded with him to tell her if she's pregnant. Christian handed her the results. Bridget was upset by what she read, and asked Christian to run the tests again. Christian told her the lab wouldn't screw up simple tests like this. Felicia barged in and heard Bridget say she was pregnant. Bridget admonished Felicia for barging in. Christian got a page and had to excuse himself. Felicia asked who the father was, worried it might be Dante. Bridget said it wasn't Dante, but wouldn't say who. Felicia pressed but Bridget said she couldn't tell her. Bridget finally relented and admitted the father was Nick. Felicia was aghast as Bridget recalled how it all happened. Bridget tearfully told Felicia she doesn't want to break up her mother's marriage. Bridget declared that despite her best efforts she's become just like her mother. Bridget recalled how she once condemned her mother for being a horrible person for sleeping with Deacon and having a baby with him. Bridget resolved to handle things differently than her mother did, and declared she won't make the same mess Brooke did. She declared to Felicia that she knows what has to be done.

Nick and Brooke got very passionate towards each other and began to make love in her bedroom. Afterwards Brooke complimented Nick for being such a wonderful lover. Brooke expressed her hope that Bridget could find a man to share the same kind of bond that she has with Nick. Nick told her not to worry about Bridget because she has set a new course for herself. The two got frisky and made love again. Brooke gushed how safe she feels with him because she knows he'd never betray her, and she cuddled up beside him. Nick felt guilt for his night with Bridget.

Hector told Taylor he's going to move out and live in a friend's guest house. Taylor told him he can do whatever he wants but suggested his adjustment period would go a lot better if he stayed. Phoebe returned home with Shane. Hector became annoyed when Taylor explained how he'd be staying there now. Hector started giving Shane the third degree about his background. Phoebe bristled and jumped to his defense. Shane kept his cool but expressed his annoyance at Hector's questions and insinuations. Hector accused Shane of taking advantage of his situation. Phoebe told Hector he was being hypocritical considering his own situation. When Phoebe took Shane upstairs Taylor told Hector she was going this for Phoebe, and suggested this would be a good reason for him to stay with them. Hector agreed, and resolved to find out more about Shane. Upstairs Shane marveled at the "small" guest room Phoebe was putting him in. Meanwhile Hector called a friend at the police department to do a background check on Shane. His friend faxed him a report on Shane and told him that Shane has a record in L.A. Hector waited for more details while his friend put him on hold. Downstairs, Phoebe complained to Taylor about how annoying Hector is and thanked Taylor for letting Shane stay. Meanwhile, Shane luxuriated in his new digs, and brainstormed for ways to get his stay extended.

Christian told Bridget he couldn't vaccinate her for her trip to Africa if there was even the slightest chance she's pregnant. After flashing back to her night of passion with Nick, Bridget said to go ahead and conduct a pregnancy test. Bridget asked Christian to put a rush on the test so she could proceed to Africa ASAP. Bridget waited in her office for Christian, who finally arrived with the results.

Taylor objected when Phoebe invited Shane to come live with them during his recuperation, but Phoebe bullied and Taylor to go along with her. Taylor asked to speak to Phoebe privately. Phoebe argued that they should do more for Shane than just write a check, and asked Taylor what harm would it be to let him stay with them for a few days when they have such a spacious home. Taylor said she admired Phoebe for being sweet and compassionate, but said there are other ways to help people. Taylor said she can't invite strangers into their home without asking first. Phoebe countered that Taylor did the same thing with Hector. Phoebe said she just wants to do the right thing. Taylor realized Phoebe is feeling guilt over Darla and Thorne. Phoebe insisted she needs to help Shane for her own sake. Taylor finally relented. Phoebe thanked her mom and assured her Shane is a really nice guy. In his room, Shane struggled with guilt over his plans to blackmail people who have been so nice and kind to him. Phoebe returned to tell Shane that he's welcome to stay with them. Shane told Phoebe she's the sweetest, and kissed her. Phoebe was smitten.

Nick asked Brooke what she thought about them having a child of their own. Brooke was taken aback by Nick's query. Nick said since she's the one who would be carrying the child, it's up to her, and asked her point blank how she'd feel about having another one. Brooke stalled and said loves kids, and knows she'd adore his, and conceded it could be a possibility, whether they planned for it or not. Brooke expressed concern that once Hope and RJ get older they'd have more independence as a couple. Nick said that maybe him being a biological father isn't meant to be, and said he still loves being a father to her kids. Brooke and Nick reveled in their love, as Brooke gushed how safe she felt with him, but Nick couldn't shake his guilt for sleeping with Bridget.

Phoebe called Taylor from the hospital to tell her what happened to Shane's hand. Taylor said she'd take a cab to the hospital. Bridget informed Phoebe of Shane's optimistic prognosis. Phoebe waited at Shane's bedside for him to wake up after the surgery. When Shane came to, Phoebe told him what had happened. Phoebe apologized to Shane for the accident. Phoebe offered to stay and take care of him. Shane said he'd be facing physical therapy and she didn't need to stay around and play nursemaid out of a sense of guilt. Phoebe said she'd like to stay with him if he wants her to. Taylor arrived and asked how he was doing. The surgeon arrived and said he should regain normal function in the hand after some physical therapy — though the therapy will take months. Shane was upset that he couldn't afford to be out of work that long or pay for such therapy. Taylor declared they'd pay for everything, then Phoebe offered to have Shane live with them while he recuperates.

At Forrester, Brooke and Nick discussed why Bridget is planning to go to Africa. Brooke said she wants her daughter to be happy, and knows that Bridget always runs when she can't handle something. Brooke was unsure how to proceed. Brooke asserted that Nick and Bridget would still be married if Nicole hadn't died. She surmised that her happiness came at Bridget's expense/loss. Bridget arrived and Nick informed her that Stephanie spilled the beans about her plans. Bridget downplayed her worries as compared to the problems of the children in the third world. Brooke and Bridget expressed how much they'd miss each other while Bridget is in Africa. As they hugged, Bridget and Nick exchanged knowing glances. Brooke got a call from shipping and had to step out. As Bridget prepared to leave Nick offered to walk her out, but Bridget declined. Nick suggested there are other ways of avoiding him besides going to Africa. Nick said maybe they should tell the truth about their one-night stand. Bridget insisted that doing so would only ruin both of their relationships with Brooke. Bridget said their one last night together was a beautiful goodbye to the life they could have had together. Bridget told him she loved him, but if it was meant to be then Nicole would have lived and they’d still be together. She resolved to make the best of things for herself, or at least for people in Africa who have far worse problems than she does. Bridget tearfully wished Nick all the best with Brooke, and left. When Brooke returned she told Nick that maybe it would be better for Bridget to go throw herself into something to help her get over Nick, etc.

Bridget saw Christian at the hospital to get vaccinated for her trip. Christian asked if she was pregnant, noting that the medicines she'd be on while in Africa could cause major birth defects. After flashing back to her night of sex with Nick Bridget told Christian to go ahead and test her for pregnancy just to rule it out....

Shane revealed to Taylor that he knows her secret. Taylor misunderstood and thought he meant that she had kissed Thorne. Hector entered the room. Shane recognized Hector. Hector quickly grew suspicious of Shane, who excused himself before Hector could ask more questions of him. Hector expressed his concerns about Shane to Taylor. Taylor said she thought his intentions were honorable, but Hector remained unconvinced. Taylor suggested if Hector truly thinks Shane is up to no good then he should continue to stay with her so she's not alone. Hector said he can't be there if she's going to continue to see Thorne, but reiterated that he won't rest until he figures out what Shane is up to.

Outside at the pool Shane was talking angrily to himself about handling his exchange with Hector so poorly. Phoebe happened upon him and asked him what was wrong. Shane flipped out and began this out-of-the-blue tirade about Hector and why does he have to be around, etc. He calmed down in response to Phoebe's questions. Phoebe insisted on helping him with his duties, steadily flirting while wielding the hedge trimmers. She accidentally cut Shayne's hand, which left him yelping in pain. Phoebe helped him wrap his hand in a pool towel and rushed him to the ER. At the ER, Phoebe ran into Bridget shortly after the nurse took Shane into one of the cubicles. Bridget escorted a remorseful Phoebe into Shane's cubicle, where he was being prepped for surgery. Phoebe tearfully apologized to Shane at his bedside.

While at work, Bridget flashed back to her night of passion with Nick, and then with her conversation with him afterward to keep it a secret. Eric and Stephanie arrived to invite Bridget to a party to celebrate her becoming a doctor. Bridget said the timing isn't good because she's planning on leaving to go to Africa to work in an AIDS clinic. Bridget said she has no ties in L.A. anymore except for them, so it's the perfect time to do this. Stephanie and Eric were shocked. Stephanie pressed Bridget for the real answer on why she wants to leave town so quickly. At Forrester, Nick paid Brooke a visit, and asked Brooke to join him for lunch. Stephanie crashed their lunch and informed them of Bridget's plans, and asked if they knew what was going on with her. Brooke told Stephanie that Bridget confessed to her that a part of her was still in love with Nick and had hoped that Nick would return to her. Stephanie and Brooke traded barbs as Brooke defended her daughter's actions and insisted it was for the best. When Stephanie challenged her relationship to Nick, Brooke declared that she has something in Nick she never had with Ridge: a faithful, loyal partner. Nick blanched as his guilt level spiked from Brooke's accolades.
