Brooke sat at a bar and recalled Ridge's harsh words. A man nearby hit on her, but she turned him down. Donna, who was babysitting Hope and R.J., called Brooke and told her to come home because she needed to catch a flight. When Brooke rushed off, she caused the flirty guy to spill his drink. Ridge's words continued to echo in Brooke's head while she drove home in the rain. Donna called her sister again, pressuring her to hurry. Once she hung up, Brooke nearly got in an accident and pulled off the road. "I'm falling apart," she said to herself. Donna heard a car screech in the driveway and assumed it was Brooke, so she took off through the back so she could make her flight. It wasn't Brooke, though; it was a delivery guy, who left a package at the door. Home alone, Hope and R.J. were scared and hid behind the couch, waiting for their mom.

In the lab, Rick tried to talk Ashley out of telling Ridge about their affair. She explained it's what she feels she needs to do, and encouraged him to tell Phoebe before she finds out from someone else. "I don't think that Phoebe is going to be able to handle it," he said just as his girlfriend walked in the door. She, of course, asked what he was referring to. Before they could answer, she assumed they were worried about all the publicity she would have to do with the new soap coming out. Phoebe said she couldn't do it all if she couldn't share it with Rick. Ashley excused herself, but not before giving Rick a disapproving glance. Rick tried to stop Phoebe from kissing him in the lab. She said she's proud to be with him and has forgotten about his affair.

Stephanie suggested Ashley take Brooke's place at Forrester — and in Ridge’s life. Later, Steph informed Ashley that Brooke no longer works there, then walked out once Ridge arrived. He told Ash that moving on from Brooke is different this time around because of her. They kissed. Stephanie walked by and was happy to see the smooching duo.

At Insomnia, Carl surprised Bridget and told her Dr. Mills is retiring early so he won't be around when Taylor's baby is born and the possibly fertilization scandal to follow. Nick walked up, and Bridget told Carl to leave. Bridget's ex mentioned Taylor's pregnancy craving, scrambled eggs. She was clearly taken aback, but covered by throwing compliments Nick's way. He shared his concern for Brooke and asked Bridget what was going on with her. Bridget told Nick that her mom wants to go back to Ridge. Nick was angry and said Brooke can't be with Ridge. Bridget admitted she feels her mom is acting "different" this time around.

Rick yelled at Constantine for his part in Phoebe learning he cheated on her. Phoebe interrupted and told Rick that she doesn't want to hear anything about the "other woman" again. Rick and Phoebe sang in the recording booth and surprisingly, Constantine complimented them on their work. While on her computer, Phoebe told Constantine that Insomnia is having a Rick/Phoebe vs. Constantine/Phoebe contest.

Stephanie was thrilled to walk in on Ridge and Ashley making out at work. She suggested they take the day off and head to Catalina to get to know each other better. An eavesdropping Brooke walked in and said they had work to do; they were selecting soaps to make. Steph slammed Brooke not-so-subtly in front of Ridge and Ash while they all tested soaps. Brooke walked out, followed by Ridge. She said it might have been a mistake for her to return to work there and admitted that she had done it for him in hopes of a reunion. "I just don't trust being loved by you," he said. Though Brooke tried to make him believe that she wants a future with him, Ridge said he feels like her second choice and is moving on without her.... Ashley defended Brooke to Stephanie, and pointed out that her relationship with Ridge is just beginning. "You're not sleeping with every guy in my family — are you?" said Stephanie before walking out. Ashley called Rick and told him to meet her at the office. There, she said she can't start a relationship with Ridge as long as their lie is hanging over her head. Rick said Phoebe doesn't know she was the woman he had an affair with, and tried to convince her that nobody will tell. However, she decided she is going to spill the beans even if Rick disapproves.

The Forresters gathered around the pool for the Fourth of July. Thorne informed the family that Ridge invited Ashley and Abby. Felicia noticed that for the first time in a long time, Thorne seemed happy. At the grill, Stephanie informed Eric that Bridget had to work a double shift. "The Fourth of July is a day of mayhem in the emergency room," Steph noted.

Ridge prepped the margaritas and poured some for his parents. Stephanie pumped him for details of his date with Ash but Ridge wouldn’t spill. Just as Ashley and Abby arrived, Rick called Ash. She told him that she didn’t tell Ridge about their fling, even though she wanted to. He thanked her. Ashley said they should just tell the truth, but Rick insisted they keep it between themselves. Phoebe's appearance prompted Rick to end the call.

Ash made her way to the pool. Steph was thrilled by her presence. Ridge went inside to fix Ashley's drink and Brooke came in. "Didn’t you get my e-mail?" he asked, dumfounded. "I have Ashley here." Brooke pointed out that since they have RJ, they are a family and always will be.

At the recording studio, Constantine listened to his duet and Phoebe while back at the beach house, Phoebe was thrilled to spend the whole day alone with Rick. However, Rick wanted them to rehearse their song. He called her elegant and classy and said that Constantine's image for her was all wrong. Constantine called to say their track was "very hot." Rick took the phone and said that his track with Phoebe would blow Constantine's out of the water, then hung up. Rick feared that Constantine was out to sabotage him in order to win Phoebe's heart. Back at the pool, Stephanie wondered what was keeping Ridge. Brooke watched the proceedings from the balcony; Ridge joined her. Just then, Steph spotted Brooke. "What is she doing here?" Steph demanded. On the balcony, Brooke voiced how uncomfortable she was with "that other woman" here and went back inside.

Felicia told Ashley to ignore Brooke and told her she was doing the right thing by keeping quiet about her fling with Rick. Steph wanted Brooke to leave. "Let me leave while I still have a shred of dignity left," uttered Brooke to Ridge in the doorway. "I don’t know what happened to us and I can't even know where to begin to fix it," she gasped. Ridge suggested they needed space and advised her to drive home safely. As the poolside crowd enjoyed the fireworks, Ridge returned to be by Ashley's side.

Rick and Constantine argued over who's going to win the singing competition with Phoebe. The latter insisted he would be the victor, suggesting that Rick could "go back to your little chickie on the side." Rick bristled at his affair being thrown up in his face, then accused Constantine of having feelings for Phoebe.

Brooke paid Ashley a late-night visit. "I take it you're upset that Ridge and I are spending time together?" Ash surmised, but Brooke announced that it was only a matter of time before she and Ridge reconciled. Ashley refused to step aside and suggested that Brooke take a break between her myriad relationships to decide what man she really wanted. After Brooke left, Ashley sent an urgent text to Rick to call her.

Ridge encountered Phoebe at the pool where she was waiting for Rick to show up. Dad dissed lover boy for cheating on her, but Phoebe insisted that she had gotten past the incident — it was time Ridge did too. "Why can't you just drop this?" she wailed and then explained Rick and Constantine's singing contest. Ridge encouraged his daughter to go for her music dreams since the "fashion industry will always be there." After Ridge left, Rick finally showed up. They swam, then started to make out but Phoebe couldn't get the other woman out of her head. When she went off to change, Rick read Ashley's text and called her. She suggested they come clean to both Phoebe and Ridge about their past relationship; Rick said it was a horrible idea.

Ridge showed up at Constantine's studio and asked what the musician knew about Rick's other woman. Constantine explained the sexy voicemail he heard on Rick's cell phone and even recorded to play back to Phoebe. Ridge was disappointed that Phoebe forgave Rick in light of such proof, then asked if he could hear the message, but Constantine explained he already erased it per Phoebe's orders. Ridge went back to Ashley's place and said he was determined to find out who Rick was once involved with.

Brooke was confused when Ridge broke away from their kiss and said he couldn't do this. "Just stay here tonight," she purred. "Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could have things the way they used to be?" Ridge said he could forgive Brooke for walking out on him, but he couldn't get past the way she rushed back to Nick. Brooke was stunned when Ridge left.

Phoebe and Constantine were recording a song together when Rick showed up. His half-hearted praise ticked off Constantine and the guys started arguing again about what was best for Phoebe. Rick then challenged Constantine to a singing competition. The rules: each of them will sing a duet with Phoebe at Insomnia and let the audience decide which team has the best performance. If Rick wins, then Phoebe will come back to Forrester Originals full time. If Constantine wins, Rick will not stand in the way of her singing career. "Let's do it!" Phoebe agreed and the men shook hands on it.

"I should've known better," Ashley lamented to Stephanie about Ridge going back to Brooke, but Steph urged her to hang in there. Stephanie was thrilled when Ridge showed up and she made a hasty exit. Ashley asked why Ridge wasn't with his son. He admitted that Brooke wanted him to spend the night, but he didn't because, "I would lose you and I don't even have you yet." Ridge asked if Ashley was going back to Genoa City and she coyly said that her plans may have suddenly changed. They shared a smoldering kiss.

As Brooke was getting ready for bed, Stephanie showed up. "Get out!" Brooke ordered but Stephanie admonished her for trying to use sex to snag Ridge. Steph then chirped how her son hightailed it back to Ashley's place. "He wants to be free of you," Stephanie charged. "Face it. It's over." Brooke reminded that she shares a son with Ridge but Stephanie predicted that Brooke would wind up alone. After La Forrester left, Brooke cuddled in bed with a photo of Ridge.
