Steve and Kayla celebrated their recovery/reunion with Benji and his wife, Sonia. They toasted to true love. Sonia pleaded privately with Benji to give Steve what he had to give him. However, before Benji could say anything, Steve and Kayla made haste for the hospital to see an ailing John.

Alone at the cabin, Lucas had visions of Kate and Will. Meanwhile, Sami lied her way through a security checkpoint with EJ. EJ offered to help Sami save Lucas if she had sex with him. Sami reminded that if she had sex with him it would be rape. "I never let details come between me and personal pleasure," EJ smarmed, claiming he planned to impregnate her with the DiMera seed. "I like getting what I want, sweetheart, just like you." EJ kissed Sami's neck while she cried, but viewers were mercifully spared the rest of the rape scene. Afterward, Sami slapped EJ and ordered him never to tell anyone what had happened. EJ took Sami back to the cabin and helped her move the beam off of Lucas' legs. EJ claimed that if he was caught he would tell the authorities that she helped him escape and that they had been sleeping together for months. EJ kissed Sami forcefully and left her alone with Lucas.

Roman and the paramedics arrived to find John bleeding. Lexie told Roman that she saw the shooting and that she believed she saw EJ pull the trigger. But when Roman pushed her for an official statement, Lexie claimed she couldn't be sure of what she saw.

Bo stormed into the warehouse and Patrick explained that Hope was in labor. Bo called for backup and Hope had the world's speediest labor, giving birth on the warehouse floor. Patrick revealed that he had falsified the paternity test and that the baby was Bo's child. Hope glowed that they had been searching for a chance to start over. "It's just like a sign that we're meant to be," beamed Bo. "Always," said Hope (Wrong show — that's Josh and Reva's line on GL. However, it looks as though maybe they won't be needing it for a while. Perhaps a loan could be arranged.). Patrick offered to drop the assault charges against Bo but refused to testify against EJ. "I won't commit suicide," he shrugged. Meanwhile, at the hospital, John opened his eyes and chocked out the word "killer" while looking at Steve, but lost the strength to say anything further. John's heart failed and Marlena blamed Bo for John's injury. Benji tracked Steve to the hospital, kissed Steve on each cheek and handed him a demonic Tarot card before making a speedy exit.

Despite being held at gunpoint, John taunted EJ. "Stefano says jump and you say, 'How high, daddy?'" John mocked. EJ forced John to call Roman and claim that he was okay. Roman got a call from Bo and learned Hope had been kidnapped so he left for that crime scene. As all fictional criminal masterminds do, EJ decided to reveal his evil plan to John. After John's death, Bo and Steve were the next to be murdered by a secrete assassin. "I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you," EJ snarked of the assassin's identity. Meanwhile, on her way to meet Abe, Tek surprised Lexie and got into her car uninvited. Lexie worried that Abe would leave her if she was seen with Tek but reluctantly agreed to hear him out for 5 minutes. Tek made the same tired argument that if she really loved Abe she never would have cheated on him, and Lexie kicked him out of the car. Tek saw EJ shoot John while Abe called to tell Lexie that his body was rejecting the transplant and he would go blind again. Tek banged on Lexie's car window and explained that John had been shot. When he and Lexie went to investigate, EJ took off in Lexie's car. Lexie talked Tek into leaving the scene of the crime so that Abe wouldn't find out they had been together. He agreed on the condition that she pretend she witnessed EJ shooting John.

Sami worried that she and Lucas were going to die when they ran out of firewood. Lucas decided to keep them warm by having a good old-fashioned book-burning. Sami worried that EJ would come after her for setting him up with the police, and Lucas promised to protect her. Unfortunately, Lucas was in no position to protect anyone when a ceiling beam fell, crushing his leg. When Sami couldn't free him, she went to find help. She returned to their car, but couldn't restart it. Sami waved down a passing car, but when she got in, she learned that the driver was EJ. Sami begged for her help with Lucas, but he wanted to use her to get past a security checkpoint instead. EJ pointed out that Sami wasn't in a position to negotiate. He ordered her to help him or die.

Patrick took Hope to the warehouse at gunpoint. Hope begged Patrick not to put the baby in danger. When Hope called Bo, Patrick knocked the phone out of her hand, but Bo heard Hope say that she was being held in a Salem warehouse. Patrick blamed Hope for the hostage situation because she refused to leave town with him as promised. Bo and Roman arrived on the scene. Bo called Patrick, who demanded a helicopter and $100,000 in exchange for Hope's release. Bo refused to meet the demands and Patrick fired a warning shot. Patrick planned to use Hope as a human shield, but when her water broke, Patrick dropped his gun. Roman received a call that John had been shot and went to investigate.

Abby, Chelsea, Nick discussed the skeleton they found. Chelsea wondered what loved ones the corpse left behind. Chelsea fretted because she didn't know what had happened to the Lonely Splicer and wondered why he didn't want to meet her. Nick confided to Abby that he felt bad for Chelsea because she had fallen for his online alter ego. Abby counseled Nick to come clean to Chelsea, but instead, he told Chelsea that the Lonely Splicer clearly loved her and offered to help her find her online admirer.

Sami and Lucas' car broke down in a snowstorm and they sought refuge in an abandoned cabin. The pair feasted on crackers and potato chips and Lucas started a roaring fire. Lucas teased Sami about her notorious inability to make it down the aisle, but in a serious moment confessed he was the happiest he'd ever been. Lucas told Sami that they belonged together. They made love for the first time since their reconciliation. Sami beamed that she was happy that they made it through the difficult times together. Lucas wondered if Sami slept with EJ and she again assured him that she hadn't. She asked Lucas to let go of her flirtation with EJ and they made love again.

Bo plotted with Roman, Marlena and John to bring EJ to justice. John reluctantly promised Marlena that he wouldn't put himself in harm's way. Meanwhile, Hope informed Patrick that she wouldn't be leaving town with him after all. Not taking "No" for an answer, Patrick held Hope at gunpoint and informed her that they were leaving immediately. Caroline walked out of the back room, and Hope covered that Patrick had just stopped into the pub for a drink. Patrick called Chelsea for help with his plot, but she turned him down. Hope sprayed Patrick with a bottle of mace, but he quickly regained control of the situation. Chelsea called Bo and informed him that Patrick had called and asked her to lie that she saw Patrick and Hope leave town together. When Bo learned that Hope was in trouble, John offered to go after EJ instead, despite Marlena's misgivings. EJ held John at gunpoint. "I expect you to die," EJ spat. Meanwhile, Bo went to the bar and realized that Hope had been abducted by Patrick as Marlena learned that John had gone after EJ.
