As Sami and Lucas prepared to leave for her award ceremony, she apologized for freaking out when EJ called. Will was enthusiastic about his mom's new heroic image and wore a shirt that read "My mom is Sami Brady and yours isn't."

At the pub, Hope and Bo fretted about the Claire custody situation. Kayla popped in and Bo slipped about Steve's trip to Mexico. Kayla was furious to hear Bo sent him to get EJ. Hope told Kayla that Bo was surprised she didn't go with him because he was hoping she would keep him out of trouble. Bo confided that Steve had a few more episodes. Bo tried to get a hold of Steve, but couldn't get through. Kayla had a feeling something was wrong.

In a bar in Mexico City, Steve found EJ. He handed him a warrant for his arrest. Steve advised Wells to go back to Salem and share his side of the story. Steve told him they don't think John is going to make it out of his coma. "I can assure you, I had nothing to do with his unfortunate accident," the murder suspect said. Steve informed him that an eyewitness stepped forward, and asked EJ to at least tell him who helped him escape. A crafty EJ shiftd gears and asked Steve if he was having bad memories. Steve attacked him and demanded he tell him what was going on. Steve started screaming and some men in the bar escorted him out. "I'm going to kill you," he yelled at EJ. Wells realized his wallet and cell phone were missing. On the sidewalk, a bloody Steve smirked as he pulled EJ's belongings out of his pocket.

In the car, Max, Mimi, Belle and Shawn went over their plan to kidnap Claire. Belle visited John in the hospital to say a tearful good-bye. She turned around to see Marlena, who asked why she was saying bye. Belle explained to Marlena why they feel the need to kidnap Claire. Her mom tried to talk her out of it, but understood her desperation. "How do I help?" she asked Belle. Shawn walked in to get Belle, and Marlena told him to take care of her girls. They all exchanged good-byes. Marlena begged John to wake up. Philip (with Claire) ran into Belle and asked what she was doing there. She explained that she was there to see her dad, and asked to hold her daughter. He hesitated, but her put the baby in Belle's arms. Shawn darted out of the bathroom and threw punches at Philip. Belle and Shawn ran out with Claire, hopped in the car and getaway-driver Max sped off while Philip banged on the window.

Chelsea snapped at Kate for harassing her about wanting a loving family. She cried about her adoptive parents that died and biological parents, who have their set of problems. Kate pointed out that Chelsea isn't part of her father's family that involves Hope and their kids. Chelsea confronted her grandmother about her hatred of Sami. Roman arrived at the pub and introduced Sami to the crowd in order to start the award presentation in his daughter's honor. Chelsea asked Sami how she managed to get the Bradys to like her. Marlena arrived and informed Bo and Hope of Belle and Shawn's plan. Bo wanted to stop them, but Marlena told him not to. She noted Philip had a passport in Claire's name. Hope told Bo he would have done the same thing in that situation. Roman gave a speech about Sami. With tears in her eyes, Sami accepted her award. She thanked everyone for giving her another chance, and specifically thanked Lucas for saving her life, as well. Kate publicly put her hand out to make amends with a shocked Sami. Philip stormed in and demanded to know where Belle and Shawn took Claire.

At the apartment, Sami and Lucas got amorous on the couch. They moved on to the bedroom, but she stopped to answer the phone. It was EJ, calling from Mexico. He taunted her about their night together. She yelled at him, which brought Lucas into the living room. He asked who was on the phone. She said someone she met in Talladega. He could tell she was lying and implored her to trust him and tell the truth. She admitted it was EJ. Lucas was angry that he called, but Sami broke down in tears so he comforted her and urged her to call Roman.

Roman and Bo met up at the Brady Pub. Roman revealed that he was now acting police commissioner because Abe was on medical leave. Roman asked Bo to go to Mexico City to find EJ and persuade him to return to Salem, but Bo begged off in light of his daughter's birth. Roman asked him to discuss it with Hope, then added that he wasn't sure Lexie was being completely honest about her ID of EJ in John's shooting.

Kayla and Stephanie returned to the pub because Steph's flight was delayed. She and Kayla took a booth and discussed the possibility of Steve and Kayla having another child. Kayla said the time wasn't right. An alarmed Steph asked if something was wrong with Steve. Kayla said he had issues with his memory. Steph was relieved that it wasn't more serious. Back at the hotel, Steve had an episode and completely trashed the room, throwing furniture around and a chair through the terrace doors. He collapsed. When he came out of it, he was confused by what he had done. He called Bo. Bo came to the Salem Inn and asked what happened to the room. Steve covered by saying some kids were throwing bricks. Steve talked to Bo about his episodes and said that he needed to get out of his head and needed a job. Could he work for the Salem PD, Steve asked. Bo was wary in light of what happened at the Child Services office. Steve needled Bo, so Bo told him about the Mexico City assignment. Steve took it.

Chelsea was frustrated when she didn't hear from Lonely Splicer. Abby suggested that he wasn't interested any more. No way, replied Chelsea. "Girls like me don't come around every day," she huffed. Nick (as Lonely Splicer) finally responded, so Chelsea IM'ed back, calling him Shane Patton and asking if he was mad that she knew his real name. He said that he wasn't happy that she went poking into his personal life after he asked her not to. Chelsea insisted it wasn't her who tracked him down; it was a loser friend of hers. Nick reacted to that, told her she was the loser and signed off. At the hospital later, he looked longingly at a photo of Chelsea. Dr. Rebert (the unwitting face of Lonely Splicer) came in, spied the photo and congratulated Nick on getting some action. Nick told Dr. R about the Lonely Splicer situation, without revealing that he used the doc's photo. Dr. R urged him to tell the truth to the girl he liked, then gave him general advice on nabbing the gals. "When it comes to ladies, Dr. R knows his anatomy," he explained.

Roman went to Sami's apartment to question her about EJ's call. Sami was very agitated, so her dad tried to calm her down. Lucas vowed to protect his lady love.

Mimi reported to Max that Philip is planning to skip town with Claire. She wanted to do something, but he pointed out that they were out of their league with Victor. "I guess you're right ... I didn't think about how hard it would be," she sighed. "Nothing I ever do in my life will make it up to Shawn." Max told her gently that she made a mistake, but she insisted he not try and make her feel better. After seeing her remorse, he changed his mind and said they should try and get Claire back. They discussed the situation and wondered why the Kiriakises weren't leaving right away. Mimi realized that they must have an appointment somewhere before they take off.

Shawn found Belle at the hospital and the two lamented losing Claire. Shawn told her that Victor paid Willow to lie on the stand, then chastised himself for getting involved with the money-loving hooker. Shawn then revealed that Victor and Philip were plotting to take Claire out of the country — and that he and Belle have to do something about it. Belle cried that things were fine two weeks ago and that everything had gone wrong so quickly. The two headed to Max's apartment for a powwow with him and Mimi.

Stephanie visited with Steve and shared a heartfelt farewell with her dad. He urged her to be safe while racing cars in Dayton and commended her for following her dream. She asked why he didn't take his own advice. "You have that fire inside of yourself, too. You might want to check it before the pilot light goes out," she said. He told her that when she gets older, she'll realize that sometimes it's okay to pull back on the throttle a little bit. She urged him to explore his wilder side. He said he'd try his best to make her proud of him. They hugged and exchanged teary I love yous. "You are so much more wonderful than I ever dreamed you'd be," she smiled. After Steph left, Steve had a flashback of having an episode. He pulled out his harmonica and began playing. He looked in the mirror and stopped. "Something's not right with you, boy," he told his reflection. "What are you gonna do about it?" He kept playing, then had another episode.

Bo and Kayla dined at Chez Rouge and discussed the court case. Bo was upset that he couldn't help his son. He also shared that Shawn wanted to run away with Belle and Claire. Kayla was alarmed. Bo vowed to protect Shawn from himself and noted that Shawn had distanced himself from Bo and Hope since the verdict. Kayla offered to help out. She called Shawn. When he saw Kayla's name on the Caller ID, he told Belle that he had been avoiding his parents, so they probably put her up to calling. He picked up. She told her nephew that she and Steve are there for him and Belle. He rushed her off the phone, saying he needed some time. She reiterated that she and Steve are there for him, no questions asked. He asked her to tell his parents that he would call them the next day. Kayla left the restaurant to meet Steph. Bo stayed behind and talked to Maggie, who brought him a cupcake with a candle to honor his daughter's birth. She told him to make a wish. He sadly told her he wished John had never gone into the warehouse with EJ, that Shawn was his biological father, that Chelsea wasn't so troubled, that Zack was in the first grade and that Shawn, Belle and Claire were together and happy. She said she wished she brought a bigger candle. He blew it out.

At Max's apartment, Mimi revealed to Belle and Shawn that they had a plan to get Claire. She noted that Claire must need immunization shots and probably had an appointment at the hospital the next day.

Kayla and Stephanie stopped by the Brady Pub on her way out of town. Shawn called Kayla and asked if she meant what she said about helping him, no questions asked. She said yes. He asked her to call the hospital and see if she could find out if Claire was being immunized the next day. Kayla asked for five minutes. "I'm trusting you," he said. She called back and reported that yes, Claire was meeting with Dr. Kinnerly at 1pm the next day. He made her promise not to tell anyone he asked. She agreed. Steph said good-bye to her grandparents.

Kate asked Lucas to come home with her and recuperate but he said he was going home with Sami. She was dismayed. He told her she should be happy for him that he was happy. Kate asked him to recount his rescue. "I find it so hard to believe that a woman who weighs 100 pounds can lift a beam twice or three times her weight," she noted suspiciously. He insisted it was adrenaline. She said she thinks Sami had help — from EJ. "I don't know whether to laugh or to hit you with one of my crutches right now," an incredulous Lucas replied. The two bickered. Lucas gave her two choices: Accept that he and Sami were together or she's out of his and Will's life for good. She said Lucas meant too much to her to lose him so she promised to never bring it up again. He thanked her.

In John's room, Marlena told her unconscious hubby about Sami's heroic actions in saving Lucas's life. Sami overheard, then came in the room. Sami said she had a good feeling that something good was going to happen, then noted that Marlena seemed tired. Marlena reported what happened at the courthouse with Claire, Belle and Shawn. Sami was upset for her sister. She then gave her mom a pep talk about John. Sami admitted that she treated John badly and that she wishes she could tell John that she thinks he's wonderful. "Tell him now," Doc Evans urged. Sami made a heartfelt, tearful apology to him. "I was so busy being a brat that I never stopped to realize that I already was loved by you," she noted. "You mean a lot to me.... I love you." Marlena hugged her and praised her for being so great. Sami told her mom about the Good Samaritan Award she would receive at the Pub. Marlena was thrilled. Sami left; Marlena cuddled up to her husband and told him how she would be there for him. "I will never, ever, ever give up on you. You are my life," she cried.

Philip bonded with Claire at the Kiriakis mansion. "I may have a different face, but you know I'm your daddy, don't you?" he asked. Mimi came by and told him that what he was doing was wrong. "Your heart has turned ice cold," she accused. He admitted that losing Claire hurt him so much that he realized he needed to take care of her and be with her. "My daughter, not by birth, but by right, by love. There is nothing that will take Claire away from me every again," he insisted. She said he sounded like Victor. He replied that was because he learned some hard life lessons. He then said she was there because she was guilty about lying over Claire's paternity. She insisted she never wanted to hurt anyone. "But you did," he pointed out. He told Mimi to leave. She saw passports for him and Claire. "You're taking Claire out of the country?" she asked, alarmed. He told her to scram.

Shawn confronted Willow at Chez Rouge, demanding to know how she could lie to the judge. She boasted that Victor paid her off and that's why she did it. Shawn didn't believe her, so she pulled out her wad of cash from her bra. He called her a whore. She made him a deal: She'll come clean and get Claire back if Shawn would kiss her. He asked if it was a sick joke. He leaned in for the kiss, but she pushed him away and laughed in his face. "See how easy it is to push you around?" she mocked. He yelled at her. Maggie approached and admonished both of them. Shawn told Maggie about Willow's payoff. Maggie fired her. Willow was peeved. Shawn left, clutching his heart and lamenting that he let it all happen.

Sami came back to Lucas's room. Kate thanked her for saving Lucas's life and apologized for doubting her. "Please, take good care of him," she whispered before leaving. "Who was that nice lady who was disguised as your mother?" Sami asked. Outside, Kate vowed to herself to prove that Sami was lying.

Kate went to the mansion and found Philip's itinerary. She asked if he was leaving the country. He said yes. She advised him to stick around and wait to get full custody. He was worried that Victor wouldn't be able to buy off the judge. Kate said she couldn't bear saying good-bye to another son.... Outside of Chez Rouge, Mimi found Shawn and informed him of Philip's travel plans. Shawn freaked and said he would now play by his own rules and that he and Belle would take Claire and disappear.
