DAYS Recaps Week of April 9, 2007
Friday, April 13, 2007
At University Hospital, Dr. Parsons told Nick that if the Salem PD calls again regarding the hairbrush, he should inform them that the lab has more pressing priorities. Abby showed up and Nick confessed that he'd tampered with police evidence. Abby advised him to return the stolen brush to the lab, but he countered that if he did, Chelsea would be sent to jail. Abby noted that Nick is her pal's moral compass, so he shouldn't go off-course. She suddenly suspected that Nick is so worried because he thinks his girlfriend is guilty.
A box-toting Chelsea arrived at the Brady home, where a loving "welcome home" note was taped to the front door. Before she could go inside, Billie came along and asked her daughter to return home with her. Chelsea turned down her mom, who resorted to mentioning that she stood by Chelsea when Bo and Hope turned against her. Chelsea pulled out her own guilt ammunition, bringing up her mother's drunken sex romp with Nick. She saucily asked if Billie and grandma Kate had ever shared men. Chelsea released Billie of her motherly duties, saying that perhaps they can one day be friends. She gently explained that Billie just isn't a good influence and living with Bo and Hope will be better for her. Ms. Brady added that from now on, she's just Billie, saying that her real mom is the woman who raised her. Chelsea made it clear that she wasn't trying to hurt Billie or totally cut her off; they parted amicably.
At the state hospital, Dr. Kraft talked to Steve about his lack of appetite, he pointed out that she brings her own lunch from home and doesn't eat the cafeteria "slop." He challenged the doc to take a bite, but she declined. Steve jumped to his feet for a rousing One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest moment, getting the other patients all whipped up about the icky food. Dr. Kraft was not amused, but Steve calmly argued that the patients need to be treated better and deserve decent food and "basic human rights." Foley the orderly arrived and was all too eager to put a halt to the hubbub, but Kraft had him hold off. Afterward, she suggested that Steve file his grievances through the appropriate channels, but asked him to please stay off Foley's case. When Dr. Kraft left in response to a page, she forgot her laptop, which Steve was pleased to see had Wi-Fi. Steve got one of the patients to distract Foley while he hopped online to order pizza. Mouth-watering talk of thick-crust, veggie lovers, extra cheese and brick oven ensued (prompting the recapper to remember that she forgot to eat lunch). When he couldn't come up with a credit card number, a smirking Steve made the order COD. Afterward wacky singing and dancing ensued, until Foley returned. When the orderly tried to get rough, Steve issued a warning, but Foley didn't back down. Foley was about to take a swing at Steve, but they were interrupted by the arrival of boxes of pizza, which led to joyous looniness from the patients. Steve made a crazy facial expression and taunted Foley with some sort of Popeye-sounding utterance.
On the island, Gabby filled in Belle on her wish to leave with them, offering to babysit Claire. Belle asked for some time alone with Shawn, then promptly argued against allowing Gabby to tag along. Shawn accused Belle of behaving as if the situation is a romantic triangle. Belle responded that they don't know Gabby well and brought up seeing a baby carriage in the islander's room. Why wouldn't she tell them if she'd had a child? Belle asked. Shawn said he'd leave the decision up to her. Belle shared her concerns that Gabby wants Shawn, but he swore that the interest is not mutual and that once they got off the island, Gabby would be on her own.
Back at University Hospital, Nick admitted to Abby that he doesn't know what to think about Chelsea's story. Just then, Chelsea sailed in and planted a kiss on her beau. Dr. Parsons broke up the moment to ask about the missing hairbrush.

Hope arrived at University Hospital to visit Kayla, who was ready for release. When Hope noticed the bouquet of yellow roses (Steve and Kayla's special flower), EJ slithered in and announced that they are from him. Kayla confronted Wells with her suspicions that he was behind her car accident; she bravely declared that she's not afraid of him. Hope also had harsh words for Wells; when he sarcastically asked about John's condition, she started swinging her arms, but he held her at bay. Next, he inquired after Shawn. "Don't ever say my son's name again," the mad mama ordered. Kayla and Hope presented a united front of frostiness and EJ finally took off. Once they were alone, Hope told Kayla that EJ obviously has an interest in Shawn's whereabouts; she fretted over not being able to get in touch with her son to warn him.
On a floor below Kayla's room, Bo walked in as the police officer guarding Steve was asking for crossword puzzle help. Bo saw through Steve's glib talk that he spent the night tucked into his hospital bed. Bo produced the bar of lye soap, noting that it can be used to raise body temperature, happens to be in stock at the state hospital and was found in the ambulance that transferred a feverish Steve to University. Backed into a corner, Steve reluctantly admitted to Bo that he'd used the lye soap so that he could get to the hospital and check on Kayla. Bo chewed out Steve for attacking EJ and placing himself in more jeopardy. Hope showed up, explaining that she needed to speak to Bo. They went into the hallway, where she filled him in on EJ's questions about their son. After the Bradys hurried from the hospital, Bo told Hope about the phony electricians who'd slipped into their home, and surmised that EJ was spying on them in order to track down Shawn.
On the island, Belle and Shawn made plans to leave. Gabby rushed in to warn them that the sheriff was there, but it was too late because the sheriff strolled in right behind her. He showed them a flier advertising a $250k reward for the runaways' capture. The sheriff noted that there are hundreds of those fliers around the island and that things are getting too hot. He returned their fake passports and warned them to get off the island ASAP. Shawn and Belle argued about what to do. Belle was determined to find a job on the island, but Shawn didn't like that idea. They were interrupted by Gabby, who returned with baby Claire. He showed her the flier Philip had distributed. They discussed the need of a boat and cash. Gabby offered her savings to Shawn, then asked if she could leave with them.
Kayla visited Steve and took him to task for taking so many risks and pushing her away. Steve's cranky facade began to crack, he seemed moved by her words. She asked if he had even a little belief in them, but Steve advised her not to read too much into his actions. Kayla said that she was going to tell Stephanie about what's going on, then she left to call their daughter.
At the apartment complex, EJ ran into Will and offered a bundle of cash for help with downloading camera phone images. EJ manipulated Will by appealing to his techno-geek pride, so the teen relented and set up the equipment. Once Will was gone, EJ watched via his laptop as Bo and Hope conducted a sweep for bugs hidden at their place. He could hear every word as they whispered about how they'll be careful if Shawn gets in touch with them. As they badmouthed Elvis and his pricey threads, he gleefully chuckled.

At the Brady house, Bo and Officer Cooper couldn't find any sign of the fishy electricians (Philip and EJ, who had sneaked in to install a surveillance system). After the uniformed cop left, Chelsea and Nick showed up, at Bo's request. When he brought up the fire, a nervous Chelsea started to defend herself, but Bo explained that he believes her claim that she was framed by Willow.
EJ, bearing a bouquet of yellow roses (the very nerve!) slipped into Kayla's darkened hospital room and talked in a menacing fashion to the sleeping patient. Meanwhile, Steve was rolled into University Hospital's ER with a high fever, which unbeknownst to the hospital staff was really due to the lye soap trick he'd pulled at the state hospital so that he could get to Kayla. A police officer stood guard in Steve's room, if by "stood guard" you mean he sat with his back turned to the psychiatric patient and read the paper. Steve requested an aspirin; the officer obliged, but warned: "no funny stuff,” before leaving for the nurses’ station. While the policeman was gone, funny stuff indeed ensued. Steve pulled out pills from the mental hospital and dropped them into the officer’s bottled water. Upon his return, the officer was soon snoring. Steve began to strip down and quickly strolled out of his room in the cop’s uniform, while the dupe slept in Steve’s bed, a blanket pulled up around his face.
Lucas was on the phone making plans for himself and Sami to spend the following evening in the honeymoon suite of a lavish hotel. Sami burst into the room to report that Kayla was in the hospital. Before she rushed out, Lucas told her he had a romantic surprise. When Sami got to University, she was surprised to run into EJ and wondered how he’d heard of the accident, since he's not family. He again reiterated the whole plan for the next night: She'll meet him, they'll jet off to get married. She told him that she'd break the news to Lucas about the baby's paternity and the marriage. When Wells questioned Sami’s sincere romantic interest and warned her not to play him for a fool, she uttered breathy reassurances. When EJ was gone, Sami finally got to visit Kayla, who was now awake. They were interrupted by Steve, who lovingly tended to his “Sweetness.” She implored him to return to the State Hospital, fearing that he’d get in trouble, but he insisted on finding out how she got hurt. She recounted how she swerved off the road and asked why Steve cares since she’s “nothing but a thorn in [his] side.” He tenderly noted how much she’d done for him. When Kayla brought up EJ, he retorted that he’s not under EJ’s control and stormed off to set things straight. When Sami returned, Kayla was on the phone and about to narc on Steve for his own good because she feared he might kill EJ. “What if he did?” asked Sami (taking the all’s well that ends Wells approach). Kayla said she didn’t care what happens to the nuisance, but she wants to protect Steve.
Back at Bo and Hope’s house, Chelsea squirmed when her dad brought up how long Willow will rot in jail, but beamed when he invited her to move in with the Brady bunch. Bo added that he wants to work on their father/daughter relationship. Once Bo stepped outside to take a call, Chelsea jumped for joy, but Nick brought up the incriminating hairbrush. It turned out Bo’s call was from Kayla, who tipped him off about Steve. Bo took off. Chelsea asked Nick to let her enjoy the moment. He hugged her, but was still nervous. Chelsea fiddle-de-deed the idea that Bo will find out the hairbrush at the crime scene really belongs to her since Nick tossed it. He looked sheepish, but kissed her.
At Lucas and Sami's apartment, Will came in and Lucas told him about his Aunt Kayla. Will asked about all the papers his father was looking over, Lucas explained that its evidence to prove EJ is embezzling. When Lucas was out of the room later, EJ showed up and Will greeted him with a sarcastic barb, but let him in. EJ asked a technical question about camera phone images and Will essentially sent him to a generic Radio Shack. Lucas entered the room and coyly said he needed to speak to EJ about some numbers that didn’t add up before he goes to the SEC. The men engaged in a cat-and-mouse game. Lucas threw around the word “fraud,” while EJ grumbled about Lucas’s rudeness. Lucas threatened that his nemesis better steer clear of Sami or else he would send the cooked books to the SEC. After a cryptic reference to hw fate might interfere with Lucas and Sami’s wedding, EJ slithered across the hall to his own apartment, but was accosted by a gun-toting Steve, who warned him to stay away from Kayla and forced him into the apartment. The sound of someone getting punched could be heard.
Sami came home and found her fiancé beaming. Lucas gleefully announced that EJ would not be coming around anymore. She freaked, asking what Lucas had done. She ranted about how dangerous EJ is and said the only way to stop him is to “put him in the ground.” Lucas asked if she meant that she wants to kill him, but she shrugged it off as just an expression. The couple embraced and kissed.
Across the hall, Bo arrived at EJ’s door. Wells answered holding an icepack to his jaw, leading a smirking Bo to note that EJ probably already knows that Steve’s on the street. Wells denied it and slammed the door in Bo’s face. Bo called Kayla to report that EJ is sporting a bruise, but said that since EJ didn’t say anything, they can hopefully sneak Steve back to the mental hospital so that nobody finds out he escaped. As Kayla wondered where he could be, Steve was back in his bed at University Hospital. The groggy cop, now fully dressed again, awoke in a chair and asked how long he’d been out. The patient told him not to worry, “It’ll just be our little secret,” he assured with a sly grin.

Kayla complained to Bo, demanding to know why EJ is still a free man even though she collected evidence against him in Italy. It's not enough evidence to prove that EJ helped illegally obtain John's kidney for Stefano, explained Bo, who refused to just go with his gut since that has backfired on him in the past. He also warned his sis to tread carefully because EJ is dangerous. Kayla insisted that she'd keep trying to put EJ behind bars until the cops get off their "lazy butts." In the meantime, EJ was on his cell phone, giving orders to a henchman. Philip walked up and asked if Wells was putting out a contract on someone.
Marlena visited Steve at the mental hospital. She brought up that she'd discussed his case with Dr. Kraft, which prompted Steve to gripe about doctor/patient confidentiality. When Marlena concluded that Steve was brainwashed, he scoffed at her.
EJ and Philip donned overalls to disguise themselves as electricians and walked right into the Brady home, which is under post-fire renovation. They met Peter Martin, a worker, who was immediately suspicious of the duo, despite EJ's backward baseball cap, which just screamed average Joe. When the real worker left, the sneaks got to work installing Billie's security system. Outside, Peter muttered to himself that something is wrong and pulled out his cell phone.... Kayla and Bo wrapped up their argument and she sailed off in a huff. His phone rang, it was Peter, who reported that something fishy is going on with the two electricians.
A contrite Kayla, who was on the road, left a message for Bo to apologize for her harsh words. Menacing headlights glared from behind as some tailgater leaned on the horn.... Bo showed up at the house, where Peter filled him in on the would-be workmen. Bo instructed Peter to call 911, then pulled his gun and stealthily entered the house. Meanwhile, Kayla swerved off the road.
Back at the hospital, Marlena proposed another treatment for Steve: deprogramming. He dished out the witticisms, including the mock complaint that his HMO doesn't cover deprogramming. Marlena resorted to the old "The-Steve-I-Know" argument, which led him to say that he's not the Steve-She-Knows. Doc Evans stood her ground, but Steve snarked that he's not a science project and kicked her out. As she turned to leave, Marlena laid on the guilt about doing it for Kayla's sake and what they had all meant to each other, then departed. Steve seemed to be affected by her words. When she left the room, Marlena received a call. "Oh no, poor Kayla," she said. At the Brady house, Bo started to look around when a cop showed up: "It's about your sister." A lurking Philip listened in from his hiding place on the stairway as the officer explained that while responding to the call, he learned that Kayla was rushed to University Hospital. At the same time, Marlena reported the news to Steve. He asked for twenty dollars for the "vending machine," which Marlena handed over before departing with a frown. Once alone, Steve summoned Hector, an orderly, and asked how he'd like to make twenty bucks.
Afterward, Philip and EJ sat at Chez Rouge, back in their regular garb and sipping bubbly. Mission accomplished, EJ showed Philip images of the Brady house via a cell phone cam. Kiriakis toasted Bo, hoping he finds his son. He then warned EJ not to hold out on him if he gets word of Shawn's whereabouts. EJ asked if Philip was threatening him, Philip said that if he was threatening Elvis, he'd know it. EJ swore he'd stick to their deal, but haughtily advised his partner in crime not to ever assume they are equals. Then he slithered away.
Hector returned to Steve with a bar of lye soap. Steve took off his shirt and tucked the bar under his arm. At University, Bo sat by a bandaged Kayla's bedside. He was apologetic over their squabble. Fuzzy, but agitated, she mentioned "the lights." Bo lovingly shushed her, telling Kayla to sleep and that everything will be okay. Marlena arrived and Bo informed her that Kayla has a concussion, but will be okay. He explained that Kayla was run off the road, Marlena suspected EJ was behind it and chastised Bo about the cops taking too long to nab the fiend. Bo maintained that EJ will be caught and related his earlier discussion with Kayla. Talk turned to Steve, who Marlena sadly said that he's not the man they knew. But maybe he is because at that moment, Steve was using the lye soap to raise his temperature to 104, ensuring that he'd be taken to University Hospital. "I'm coming Sweetness," he said.

Kayla visited Steve at the hospital. She happily told him about an e-mail from Stephanie, who had reported that she's fallen in love. Steve was dubious since Steph had only been gone for a couple of months and he seemed to think Dayton wasn't rife with romantic potential. Kayla explained that she was there so that Steve could reply to their daughter, whom she promised not to tell about his institutionalization, as long as he continues to see Dr. Kraft. Kayla transcribed Steve's response, which was quite cautionary. When Kayla noted that she'd been more encouraging, Steve scoffed at her rosy view. As she started to talk about how things worked out for them, he interrupted to say, "Look where I am; see me as I am." When a teary Kayla turned to leave, he urged her to walk away for good, but Kayla vowed that she won't give up on him. Steve suggested she be more realistic, Kayla countered that he be more optimistic.
Philip confronted EJ over hiring Willow to burglarize Bo and Hope's home. EJ explained that he'd wanted to install Billie's security system in the Brady house in order to snoop on them. Philip worried that EJ will hurt Billie by kicking her to the curb once he gets what he wants. EJ brought the conversation back to their mutual desire to track down Shawn. Philip had some conditions, among them: Billie mustn't get hurt and if EJ finds Shawn first, Philip has to be filled in right away. EJ took a dim view of Kiriakis's demanding tone, but asked how they'd get into the Brady house to install the security system. Philip suggested they walk right in by pretending to be workmen.
At Mythic, Lucas faced off with Kate over the cooked books and warned that if EJ goes down, so will she. He threatened to call the SEC, but Kate ordered her son to keep his mouth shut. Kate argued that EJ would wriggle out of things, and she and Lucas would both get burned. When he vented about everyone letting EJ get away with things and how he's always around Sami, Kate charged that Lucas is really just angry about Sami. Lucas denied it, but Kate insisted that something is going on between EJ and her son's fiancée. He retorted that she's just jealous of Sami because she's beautiful, smart and gets away with things and added that he won't end up bitter and alone like his mother and Philip. (Ouch!) After Lucas stormed out, telling her to go to hell, Kate called out that Sami will break his heart.... EJ came by the office, where Kate informed him that he'd received urgent calls from Italy. EJ stepped outside to call a henchman and chewed him out over the security breach when Kayla got into Stefano's room.
Celeste again warned Sami that offing EJ is their only way to get rid of him. She made Sami agree aloud — and with conviction. Sami lamented that her meeting the following evening with EJ must begin on the dot or else, but she has a 6 p.m. appointment with Lucas to take photos for the newspaper and feared she'd get to the cabin late. Celeste recommended that she keep her plans with Lucas and once at the cabin, lie to EJ that Lucas had dumped her and that she'd been abandoned by her parents and even Will. "Truly make him believe that he's all you have," Celeste advised. Sami continued to balk at the thought of committing murder, but Celeste stood firm. Sami asked how they would do it, with a kiss said Celeste, who pulled out a lipstick. The lipstick was laced with a heavy narcotic, but if Sami wears enough lip balm, it won't affect her. After he passes out, Celeste said she'd burn the cabin to the ground, with EJ inside. Celeste said that she'd avenge Alexandra's death and Sami would have a good life with Lucas. When Lucas returned home later, he was greeted by Sami, who wore a sexy blue nightie and high heels. Cooing and smooching ensued as she loosened his tie. They fell to the sofa, but Lucas pulled back to acknowledge his pre-wedding jitters and asked if things would work out this time; she assured him things would be fine.
Philip phoned Billie and said he was going to come over to check out the security system, so he could set it up at Titan.
