At Wyndemere, Rebecca found Nikolas and told him that the launch was ready to take her back to the mainland. He apologized for having too much to drink the night before, then asked if she thought he was grieving too much over Emily. She said yes, then asked Nik if he wanted to help paint her room at Kelly's. Later, Nik showed up at Kelly's, in clothes obviously not meant for painting, and he had no idea that he was supposed to tape the moldings and windows first. Nik progressed with painting, albeit slowly, and Rebecca asked him to help move some furniture around. While lifting a bureau, Nikolas strained his back. "I know just how to fix it," Rebecca responded. "Lie down and take your clothes off." Rebecca then gave Nikolas a back massage.

At his office, Spinelli fantasized about being a real gumshoe and poured himself a shot of orange soda from a flask. Maxie burst in, saying she needed Spinelli's help but he advised her to save her breath. Maxie swore that she had a real case that needed to be solved, stating that Couture had stolen Crimson's fall shoe line exclusive. Maxie vowed she wouldn't pull any punches when it came to her job but Spinelli still refused her request. Lulu burst in and swore that Maxie was telling the truth. Spinelli remained skeptical and was hurt that Spinelli didn't believe her. Lulu told Maxie they should find Sam and ask her to take the case instead. Back at the office, the girls squabbled over their predicament when Spinelli entered and took the case — for Lulu's sake.

Lucky showed up at The Haunted Star to question Ethan about a string of petty robberies. Luke spoke up saying that he was Ethan's alibi — and possibly his father. Lucky noted that the con man's getting conned. Lucky wanted to know what Ethan's real plan was and the boys nearly came to blows. Lucky was furious at his father and ordered him not to tell Lulu about any of this. "He is not family!" Lucky shouted before storming out. Tracy arrived and pointed out the DNA test results must be in. Ethan asserted that he didn't want to know if they were father and son but Luke left for G.H. and Ethan followed. At G.H., Luke announced to Epiphany that he's ready for his DNA test results. They all went to the conference room, where Luke asked Epiphany to read the test results aloud.

Jason showed up at G.H. to welcome Michael back to the hospital. Patrick came in and said if Michael has any hope of waking up, the procedure has to happen immediately. While Jason was still visiting, Elizabeth came in. They discussed that Jake's birthday was the next day and stated it would be a miracle if Michael woke up on Jake's birthday.

At the nurses' station, Matt asked Patrick why he moved up Michael's surgery. Patrick claimed that the clock was ticking. With Jax present, Dr. Henson arrived to say she was heading back to Europe and would operate on Michael when she returned. Patrick pointed out Michael's latest tests and stressed that the surgery must happen now. Dr. Henson was angry and accused Patrick of going behind her back. She demanded he remove himself from the case. Jax sided with Dr. Henson but Jason was hesitant after hearing Patrick's warning, citing that Patrick had saved his life in the past. Carly arrived from the airport, telling him she got tips on how to proceed safely with her pregnancy.

Lucky arrived at the hospital and apologized for being late for their meeting to talk about Jake's party. Liz vented about the Michael surgery drama and was so grateful for her second chance.

Patrick pleaded with Jax to let him perform the surgery on Michael but Jax refused. Meanwhile, Jason spilled about Patrick's theory to Carly, who was faced with making an immediate decision about Michael.
