GL Recaps Week of February 12, 2007

Friday, February 16, 2007
It's the day of Alan and Doris's wedding.

At Cedars, Coop asked a distraught Ava if Alan-Michael was awake yet. Meanwhile, A-M had regained consciousness and appeared confused after he glanced at a newspaper announcing Alan's marriage to Doris. As Coop started arguing with Ava again in an attempt to defend his actions, Frank interrupted and told Coop to cool it, noting that his behavior only drives Ava further into A-M's arms; Ava agreed. Everyone went to A-M's bedside and much to their surprise, he called the fall an accident, claiming he dropped his cell phone and didn't blame Coop for anything. Then he told Ava it looked like he had a wedding to attend. Later, A-M confided to Ava that he couldn't feel anything in his legs. He was paralyzed and couldn't walk. Ava told him she was there for him.

At Towers, Alex was appalled at Alan's decision to marry Doris, who she called a blackmailer. Then she suggested he just call the whole thing off and visit his son in the hospital before the entire family was ruined. Meanwhile, Remy applied for a security job for a "high-profile wedding" but he told the interviewer to call him Jim, not Remy.

An emboldened Beth approached Doris, who was preparing for her big day. Beth poked fun at Doris's white, princess-like dress and asked where her tiara was. She claimed she was happy to share the misery of being a Spaulding, then snarked that Doris probably wanted cash as a wedding gift. Meanwhile Lizzie gazed at herself in the mirror, dressed in her ugly bridesmaid gown. She poured herself a drink as a very happy Ashlee entered, psyched about the gorgeous gowns they got to wear for the wedding. Ashlee told Liz she was excited for the "wedding of the year" because she was glad to be part of the Spaulding family. Liz snorted in disbelief, as being a Spaulding isn't quite what it's cracked up to be. When Liz suggested that Doris was just after Alan's money, Ashlee disagreed and told Liz she was sorry she's so bitter.

At the Lewis house, Cassie spoke out to ghost Tammy again, promising that she wouldn't disappoint her. When Josh asked Cassie about what was in her pocket, she claimed it was a recipe but it was really a newspaper clipping about Alan and Doris's pending nuptials. Josh suggested he and Cassie take a trip to Chicago to get their minds off of things, but Cassie declined claiming that she needed to plan for a trip like that. Concerned, Josh confronted her, knowing that she was being haunted by the thought of Alan's wedding. Cassie left and when she didn't return, Josh looked concerned.

The wedding party prepared for the occasion: Lizzie sat at the bar drinking, Alan looked dapper in his tuxedo and took a shot to calm his nerves and Doris and Ashlee reveled at themselves in their "beautiful" dresses. Then everyone gathered at Towers for the ceremony. Alan was shocked to see Lillian in attendance. She said she was only there for Lizzie, then called Alan a monster. Beth showed up with Rick on her arm. Liz drunkenly walked down the aisle, then Ashlee sang a song about love (very amusingly) as the guests watched and listened in horror. Meanwhile, Remy (dressed as a security guard) lurked in the background observing the scene. Suddenly a deranged Cassie interrupted screaming at Alan, calling him a murderer and saying "You know what you did!" Then she pulled out a picture of Tammy from her purse and shoved it in Alan's face. She completely lost it before Josh rushed by her side and pulled her away. Once outside, she apologized to Josh and asked him how she knew he was there. Meanwhile, a mortified and humiliated Alan plead for Doris to call off the wedding but she refused. Alex, Beth, Liz and Lillian looked on in disgust. Alex pulled out her flask and took a sip. The reverend continued the service and Doris delivered her vows, calling Alan a good and decent man who loves his family. In turn, Alan said he'd love, honor and cherish Doris. They exchanged rings and it was official. Alex took another swig from her flask as Doris pulled Alan in for a big elaborate kiss.

Josh told Cassie they should go back home so she could get some sleep. She replied, "I wish..." Then ghost Tammy appeared yet again and told Cassie she couldn't sleep yet because she hasn't finished what she had to do. Meanwhile, back at Cedars, Ava returned to A-M's room with a gift basket but he was gone.

After the wedding ceremony, Beth told Rick she was more humiliated than angry and stormed out. Lillian had a brief heart-to-heart with Liz, who wondered if she'd be hated for showing up to the ceremony. Then an enthusiastic Ashlee saw Alex on the balcony, called her "aunt Alex" and asked her for "Spaulding lessons." Ashlee showed Alex that she had business cards made up proving her name as a Spaulding; Alex was shocked. Alan told Doris he was stepping out for a smoke, while Remy continued to look on. In the elevator, Alan smoked his cigar and mused to himself that even he was surprised that he'd "done it again." Ashlee wondered where everyone was, including Lizzie, as she rallied the single women together for the bouquet toss; Beth suddenly reappeared. As Doris gave a trite speech/toast about her wedding, Alan stumbled back into the room and fell on top of Doris, who looked on in horror as her hands were covered in blood; he'd been shot.

A depressed Cassie lay on the couch alone and took a few of her pills. After RJ called her, she glanced at a photo of Tammy, adding: "Nothing will be perfect again, not as long as you...." Then she left the house. Meanwhile at the Spaulding Mansion, Remy grabbed Lizzie from behind; she screamed for him to let go of her, came after him with a letter opener and then the duo went around and around, fighting about mistrust and blame for Tammy's death. Finally Remy asked Lizzie if she was going to let Alan get away with what he did, then reminded her that her own daughter was gone forever. He explained that it wasn't her fault and he knew she was innocent, but she shouldn't just sit back and watch Alan walk away a free man. Miss Spaulding broke down in Remy's arms. He asked her to help him get Alan. She didn't agree, but she also didn't say no. Remy left and asked her to think about it ... for Sarah.

At Outskirts, Buzz and Olivia shared their romantic evening at the bar over beers and chicken wings. Then Jeffrey and Frank arrived post-custody hearing and told them about the news of Gus and Harley losing Sydney. Suddenly, Cassie wandered in, much to everyone's surprise. She screamed at Frank, wondering why he wasn't out looking for Tammy's killer. Everyone present was visibly concerned. Then Cassie proclaimed that Tammy wants justice and the only way she'll rest is if Alan pays. Later, Cassie downed a shot while Jeffrey and Frank tried to talk some sense into her and asked her if she'd seen a doctor about her condition. Then she said she wanted revenge, and in front of Frank, suggested that she might hire someone to do some "work" for her. She decided to walk home after she had another vision of Tammy.

Back at the mansion, Lizzie was startled and visibly freaked out when she spied Cassie glaring at her menacingly from behind a window. After Liz opened the door, Cassie claimed that they needed to discuss Tammy (whose ghost had also appeared by Cassie's side). When Lillian arrived after hearing the commotion, Cassie said she refused to leave until Liz gave her some answers; Liz called her crazy. Lillian attempted to talk an angry Cassie down and admitted to her that she hated Alan just as much as Cassie did. That wasn't enough for Cassie; she wanted Alan dead. Before Cassie left, Lillian assured her that Alan's bad karma would catch up with him.

Mallet showed up at Towers, where he believed a crime had occurred but Dinah had set him up for a special Valentine's Day date. They officially made up over the Remy/shower snafu and canoodled in front of the waiter. Later, Dinah's credit card was denied when she tried to pay the tab. After a young, attractive diner told Mallet she was a huge fan of his from THE LAW, Dinah (jealous as always) started auctioning off Mallet's clothes to several of the women at Towers who were eager to get a piece of Mallet. Finally, Dinah was able to pay for dinner with the money from Mallet's clothes. Then Mallet received a call from Lizzie, who begged him to help her. He spoke to Remy, who was drinking at the bar. Mallet told Remy he needed to calm down as he was lucky to be free after what he did to Gillespie. Remy countered by suggesting that Mallet and his police crew should be at Alan's wedding ceremony. Meanwhile, back at home, Dinah called the bank and was shocked to find out that her accounts were empty.

Ava walked in on Coop throwing Alan-Michael over the balcony. A-M was rushed to the hospital and into surgery. Ava was shocked at Coop's actions and demanded to know what happened. Coop tried to plead his case, letting her know that they were fighting over HER; Ava told him the whole thing was stupid. Later, Buzz, Jeff and Liv met up with Coop and Ava at the hospital. Frank arrived and started questioning Coop about the accident. Ava left to check on A-M, but Jeff grabbed her and reassured her that she did the right thing and said that she didn't have to deal with everything by herself. Jeff suggested to Liv that one of them should stay with Ava, then they both admitted they had become close enough to Ava that they genuinely cared for her as their daughter.

At the end of the episode, Ava found out that A-M had suffered a spinal cord injury; the doctor said it was too soon to tell if he would be paralyzed.... Lizzie agreed to wear an ugly dress to Alan's wedding.... Cassie pondered the fact that justice might indeed be served, then Tammy's ghost reappeared again, this time vengefully, to remind Cassie that Alan's wedding to Doris means he not only gets to live, but might also have more children, while she remains dead.

This special episode is called Hurricane Katrina: After the Storm.

In this documentary-style episode of GL, the entire cast and crew spent a week with the Hands On Network volunteering to help rebuild homes ravaged by Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast. Hours of tape from the adventure were edited down to share with GL fans. After Executive Producer Ellen Wheeler rallied the cast together to surprise them with the news, everyone was delighted and overjoyed to be able to help. They arrived at their Hands On camp in Biloxi, Mississippi and were greeted by a group of volunteers who shared how dire the situation still is, 18 months after the hurricane, and explained who they will be helping and what they will be doing to rebuild the houses. The cast was split into three different teams to work on three different phases of reconstruction: The Stud House, The Framing House and The Finish House.

Most of the cast including Stephanie Gatschet (ex-Tammy) and Nicole Forester (Cassie) were overcome with emotion when they witnessed the devastation and met the families they were helping (all of whom chose to not flee during the hurricane). Everyone was very eager to get to work and immediately performed a task: hauling installation, hanging dry wall, assembling cabinets, sweeping, drilling, etc.

At the end of Day 1, everyone was pleased with their progress and amazed at their own construction skills and use of various power tools. They headed back to their modest, barracks-style camp where they spent the night in bunk beds. The next morning, Rob Bogue (Mallet) and Michael Dempsey (Alan-Michael) prepared breakfast for the 150 volunteers present.

Gatschet and Michael O'Leary (Rick) spent a day with local school children, reading and playing a game of dodge ball, while others remained at the construction site, working and joking around. Others spend a day painting murals at another local school. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Keifer (Blake) was proud to have overcome her fear of using a nail gun!

Having decided just completing one of the houses wasn't enough the GL set designer and several cast members took at trip to various stores to additionally furnish the inside of the home for its owner.

Later, the cast took a tour of New Orleans's 9th Ward to witness even more devastation and were overwhelmed with both sadness and disgust, vocally expressing their amazement that it appeared as if nothing had been touched since the day of the storm.

As the week came to a close, the cast was stunned at the progress they were able to make on each home. Then everyone gathered at The Finish House to greet the home owner Ro Manning as she entered. She was overcome with tears and joy.

At the end of the episode, Robert Newman (Josh) made a speech about how proud he was of everyone, thanked the Hands On Network and shared Reverend Ruthledge's poem, which was broadcast at the beginning of GL in it's early years about brotherhood and giving back. Kim Zimmer (Reva), Gina Tognoni (Dinah) and Beth Chamberlain (Beth) were among several cast members who gave final emotional comments about their experience and how it had changed them forever as the Hands On volunteers thanked them for their efforts and said they were pleasantly surprised that the GL cast exceeded all expectations for the week. Then the cast encouraged all viewers to volunteer on their own to help those in need, in the Gulf Coast and beyond.

Zach and Jude presented a big box of Valentine's Day chocolates to Harley, who was more concerned with the Daisy/Sydney situation. As Harley reminded Gus that they could lose both of their daughters, she received a call from Daisy's school saying she'd been missing from campus. So Harley headed over to Outskirts bar, thinking her "druggie" daughter might have been there recently. After the bartender told Harley, The Cop, that he didn't serve to minors, she begged him to tell her, as Harley The Mother, if Daisy was ever at the bar at all. He let her in on the meet-up/date with Donovan.

Bubbly as always, Ashlee gave a sullen Coop a valentine and eagerly asked him if he knew she was going to become a Spaulding. Coop was disinterested, claiming "sometimes it just plain sucks." Meanwhile at the Spaulding mansion, Lizzie was shredding her own valentines. When Ashlee entered, she was hurt that Liz didn't accept her valentine and wasn't buying her sour attitude, so she literally picked her up and dragged her to Outskirts. Once there, Ashlee told Liz she understood how sad she was to have lost Jonathan, the love of her life (Ashlee's, too!), but she needed to move on. Then Ashlee introduced some random guy to Lizzie, who realized she'd been duped and set up on a special blind date. The three sat down, had a few drinks and Ashlee quickly left Liz alone with Jamie, the date. As Miss Spaulding tried to leave, Jamie listed off his quality personality traits in attempt to lure her back in; it worked, but Liz added a self-disclaimer: "Don't say I didn't warn you." Lizzie started spilling her life story (mostly about Jon, Sarah and Tammy) to Jamie, who eagerly listened because it was, surprisingly, all news to him. As Liz continued to share her side of the story, she broke down and threw a glass against the bar, wailing about losing Sarah; Jamie hugged her.

When Coop spotted a laughing Ava with Alan-Michael at CO2, he seemed visibly peeved. After A-M left, Coop suggested Ava meet him after his shift for dinner. She didn't want it to be a "V-Day" date, but she reluctantly agreed to meet him at Towers later anyway. Meanwhile, A-M ordered champagne and pink roses to surprise Ava.

Daisy, who attempted to look seductive (but more like a call girl) in a slinky strapless dress and gobs of makeup, approached Donavan's door at the Beacon. She asked the skeevy attorney to strike her testimony from the record so that Harley and Gus would have a better chance of getting Sydney. He started bartering, wondering what she'd be willing to offer in exchange. As Daisy put his hand on her thigh, he smirked: "That's a solid offer, but are you willing to go higher?" Then Harley burst in, chided Donovan for taking advantage of a child and threatened to have his license taken away. After Daisy admitted the meet-up was her idea, Harley kicked Donovan in the groin and stormed out (with Daisy, of course). They had a mother/daughter fight as Harley tried to get it through Daisy's thick skull that what she was doing was wrong. Then Harley resolved to just let it all blow over. Once back at home, she lied that Daisy was at the library, but Gus didn't care as he was patiently waiting for her return so they could open Judge Green's ruling together; They were denied custody of Sydney. Harley broke down after Gus said they were being forced to hand over the baby today. Later, Gus and Harley met Sydney's uncle on Main Street to hand her over. They rambled on, overprotective about Sydney's special needs: her lullaby, carrots, a music mix. After her uncle said he'd love her like his own, they finally handed her over. A heartbroken Harley was touched when she saw that Daisy was hurt by her actions, apologizing and attempting to do right by her mom (finally!).

Ava saw A-M at the office and he offered to take her to Towers; she agreed. At Towers, Ava met up with Coop, who nervously presented her with a cute little bouquet of flowers. They stumbled and fell on each other just as A-M walked in; Coop was shocked. When A-M said that he had made reservations for him and Ava, she was stunned. She thought he was just giving her a lift to the restaurant. Then Coop and A-M started fighting over Ava, who was so fed up that she stormed out. Later, back at the office, A-M continued to try to woo Ava with champagne, but she angrily let him know she just wanted to do her job. Then Coop arrived, demanding to know where Ava was. A-M snarked about Coop and Ava's "grief" sex and Coop lost it. Ava returned to the room just in time to see Coop throw A-M over the balcony.

Back at the Spaulding manse, Lizzie tore out a picture of Alan from a frame and shredded it, seething, “It should’ve been you!”

After the custody hearing, Harley lashed out at Daisy for lying to her about knowing Tammy's killer, dating him AND doing drugs. Daisy tried to convince her mom that she wasn't a druggie; Harley said she was just angry about the lies and the fact that now the truth would likely prevent her from gaining custody of Sidney at all. Meanwhile, Gus and Jeffrey met with Donavan in an attempt to fix the damage done from the hearing, but Donavan said there was no way they'd be able to keep Sidney now, warning that they better not even think of skipping town with her. Jeffrey tried to reassure Gus and Harley that the judge could still possibly grant in favor of them, but they didn't buy it. Upset, Daisy apologized because it was all her fault and offered to leave so they could have Sidney; Jeff said it wasn't a bad idea. Later, Harley was heartbroken when she looked at Sidney and told Gus she was mad at herself for the nasty things she said to Daisy. Gus realized that if Sidney was handed over to her biological uncle, she'd get a proper home and life, but Daisy didn't have anyone else to help straighten her out so he let Harley know that if he had to, he'd choose to to keep and protect Daisy. Daisy, meanwhile, was using her fake ID to order a beer at Outskirts, where she ran into Donavan. They started flirting and Daisy offered him anything he wanted if he'd just drop the case against Harley; He told her to meet her in his hotel room to negotiate.

At the Spaulding mansion, Beth was angry that she couldn't get in touch with Jeffrey to work out details of her pending divorce. When Doris entered and overheard Beth's phone conversation, she told Beth it was useless to try to stop the divorce; Alan was going to marry her regardless. Then, with an eyebrow cocked, the DA threatened Beth by saying she had the power to prosecute Lizzie for Tammy's death should Beth try to create more trouble. Doris reminded Alan that he'd spend life in prison if he decided to change his mind about marrying her.

Josh came home to find Cassie was missing, so he called her. She said she needed to see Reva, who was at Outskirts with Billy. Later, a frazzled Cassie asked Reva if she has been "talking" to Jon because she has visions of Tammy and speaks to her all the time. Reva was visibly concerned and asked Cassie if she had told Josh about her Tammy visions; she hadn't. Cassie admitted the visions made her wander onto Alan's property more than once, then said that "Tammy wants justice". After Cassie left, Reva surmised that Alan would likely get away with his actions.

Back at the Spaulding manse, Beth made one last plea to Alan, begging him not to marry Doris. She said they could make the marriage work, because even though it started as a "business transaction," their relationship grew into something else. With a cold stare, Alan informed Beth that their future together as husband and wife was an illusion, adding that the marriage died with the death of their baby. Then he brought up Beth's affair with Rick and reminded her that he'd never forget her betrayal. Fed-up, Beth agreed to sign the papers, but warned Alan to start sleeping with one eye open. Then, she refused to hand over her wedding ring to Doris, noting that a shackle would be a more appropriate symbol for Doris's new, twisted union with Alan.

At Towers, Josh and Cassie had dinner. Josh gave her Tammy's friendship bracelet, which Cassie had stowed away. He encouraged Cassie to wear it in Tammy's memory because that's what she would've wanted. As they hugged, Cassie froze when she spied Doris and Alan enter together. Josh tried to get her mind off of the couple, suggesting a vacation away from Springfield. When the waiter brought over a bottle of champagne for them, courtesy of Alan, Josh lost it and railed at Alan for his lack of remorse and insensitivity toward Cassie, then poured the bottle of booze all over Alan and screamed at Doris. Humiliated, Alan asked Doris if they could leave the restaurant but she refused. A haggard Beth showed up at the bar, ordered a stiff martini and looked on in shock and disgust as Alan reluctantly gave Doris a huge engagement ring. When the DA said she wanted a big ceremony, Alan wearily suggested they keep it small and simple, but Doris wasn't having it, claiming it was her first marriage and she deserved to have it done up right.

Once back at the Lewis pad, Josh was concerned about Cassie, who couldn't rest or sleep without the aid of her pills. After Cassie was fast asleep, Reva paid Josh a visit and tried to tell him about all the intense things Cassie had told her, but he quickly ushered her out, claiming he needed to take care of Cassie. Reva, who appeared to be both worried and saddened, reluctantly left then quietly said to herself, "Happy Valentine's Day, Bud."
