It's the day of Ashlee's big birthday bash that she planned at Company. Coop
gives Ashlee birthday wishes and dashes off, leaving her alone to patiently
wait for her guests to arrive. She talks aloud to her dog Moxie, admitting
that she's excited. She loves her new life, her new friends and her new
family; she wants it all! As time passes and her guests still haven't showed
up, Ashlee calls Lizzie wondering where she is. Then she says she hopes Doris isn't the first person to arrive.
Meanwhile, Beth, all dolled-up in a party dress with a plunging neckline,
put the moves on Alan-Michael once again, telling him that they'd make a
great team together (wink, wink). When A-M told her he wasn't interested and
that they didn't have anything to share, Beth scoffed at his feelings for
Ava and reminded him that they did share one thing: a secret (knowledge of
the gun).
Lizzie visited Alan at Cedars and admitted (with a mischievous grin) to her
comatose granddad that she didn't send out the invites to Ashlee's birthday
party, to teach Doris a lesson for meddling with the Spauldings. Then she
said that she had to do it because the Spauldings needed to stick together
and protect each other, no matter what. When Doris barged into the room, Liz
put on her her 'tude, reminding Doris that she was Alan's blackmailer first
and foremost. When Doris asked Liz what the problem was (she thought they
were getting along swimmingly), Liz complained about her taking over the
mansion; Doris told Liz to get over it and move on, but she was cut short by
Alexandra who suddenly arrived and snarled at Doris, herself. Lizzie looked
on approvingly. Later, Alex told Doris she better not go head-to-head with
her, but Doris claimed she wasn't threatened. Of course, Alex could sense
her fear and then laid into her, analyzing her life and demeaning her (in
that sly, backhanded Spaulding way, of course). Before Doris left, Alex told
her she had a plan in the works to get Doris out of the Spaulding family for
good.
Rick confronted Beth, told him that he loved her and wanted to be with her,
noting that her unborn child needed a father, especially now with Alan in
the state he is. Rick admitted that he wanted to be the baby's father, but
Beth was reluctant to agree or believe him (she still loved Alan). When he
finally said he'd do anything for her, Beth appeared touched. Then she
grabbed him and took him back to a room at the Beacon, where she went into
seductress mode. She told Rick that he was the man that was going to give
her everything she needs and pulled him into bed. After they had sex, Beth
laid across the bed with her feet up, quietly willing herself to be (or get)
pregnant.
Realizing that no one was going to show at her party, Ashlee tried
to reason that there was a traffic jam .... or they just hate her. She was
delighted when Coop arrived. She opened up to him, admitting that she and Doris used to
live in a trailer. Coop advised her to ignore how ridiculous the Spauldings were and they shared a laugh after Ashlee called Lizzie a bitch. Then Ashlee kissed him on the cheek. Later, Ashlee thanked Coop for crashing her party, but told him he could jet if he wanted; he
volunteered to stick around. After Ashlee said Ava was stupid for breaking
up with him, Coop called Ashlee "the real deal" and they danced.
Back at the Spaulding manse, Ava was shocked when she walked in on A-M, who
was standing on his own two feet. She instantly ran up to him excitedly and
wanted to know about when it happened. A-M covered, claiming that he'd been
working on it but wanted to surprise her, adding that he still needed the
chair because his legs were really weak. When he couldn't look at her
directly, it finally donned on Ava that he was lying to her, so she railed
at him and stormed out.
Lizzie visited Coop at CO2. When she let him know what she'd done to Ashlee,
Coop was appalled and sat her down for a little chat. He understood that she
had lost almost everything, but she needed to grow up. Liz complained that
no one cared that she was in mourning. She'd lost her own child, after all.
Coop said he expected better from her and hoped that she'd prove it. Later,
an upset Ava ran into Coop, told him about A-M's deception and apologized to
him for being wrong. Coop was cold when Ava said she wanted to take back her
mistake of breaking it off with him. He speculated that she wasn't through
with A-M and turned her away. Then he went to Company to console Ashlee, who
was alone with her dog at her own birthday party. Ava went back to A-M, told
him that she wasn't ready to give up on him (or them) and they passionately
kissed.
Back at Cedars, Beth told Alan that they belong together then confided in
him that he would understand her actions (presumably with Rick) and she was
doing a favor to the family. As she left, Alan's eyes fluttered open.

Jeffrey paid Cassie a visit at the farm to check up on her, at Josh's request of course. When Cassie started arguing (again) about Josh's innocence, Jeff said there was absolutely nothing he could do; Josh confessed and they had to roll with the punches. Jeff reassured Cassie (again) that everything would work out — she was safe and that's all that matters. Cassie continued to freak out about the fact that Josh was behind bars while she was free, then asked how she would live up to having someone love her so much that they were willing to go to prison to protect her? She finally resolved to stop resisting Josh's decisions, but said she would continue to battle for him and his freedom. Then she asked Jeff to start fighting dirty during the trial proceedings.
At the Spaulding estate, Alan-Michael quickly hopped back into his wheelchair after checking on the hidden gun. When Ava knocked on the door, he lied to her, claiming the door was locked because he was doing some exercises and didn't want to be interrupted. Ava gave him a hard time for hiding his weaknesses, commented on his lack of exertion (um, no sweat!) and plead with him to please not be afraid to be himself around her. When Lizzie later spied Ava and A-M together in her house, she railed at them, accused them of "wheelchair booty" and showed her disgust (in that very Lizzie way) that she totally did not approve of Ava's recent relocation to the mansion. A-M tried to talk Liz down, but she was more worried about the fact that Alan might not recover from his coma. A-M said it was over thanks to Josh's confession and they really did need to stick together, but Liz countered that the whole ordeal would never be over for her.
Mel told a stressed-out Josh that she was working on his bail hearing, but he'd be stuck in the slammer for a while. He continued to fret about Cassie and RJ's wellbeing then told Mel he was ready to cut a deal to get the trial over with, saying that his purpose was Cassie and only Cassie. Mel told him there were better ways to deal with the situation, but Josh wasn't having it. He yelled at Mel to just carry out his wishes. When Cassie dropped by for a visit, she expressed to Josh that she was willing to fight, testify and be by his side every step of the way. Josh tried to push her away, telling her to just take care of RJ, but Cassie wasn't letting up.
Back at the Spaulding manse, Doris checked off names on Ashlee's invitee list for her 18th birthday party. The mother/daughter duo weren't seeing eye-to-eye; Ashlee wanted to invite her friends and Doris wanted to invite "Spaulding-friendly" party-goers. Ashlee told Doris she wasn't Lizzie, to which Doris responded that she was glad Ashlee wasn't! (But admitted that Ashlee could still learn a thing or two from her new stepsis.) Later, Doris asked A-M to attend Ashlee's party and prepare a toast at the event. A-M reiterated that he doesn't like Doris, then informed her yet again that he couldn't care less who she was married to, but she was not getting anywhere near Spaulding Enterprises. Meanwhile, an eavesdropping Ava smiled when A-M told "Mom" that people like Ava were appreciated and absolutely necessary for the success of Spaulding. Ava later admitted to A-M that she liked the way he always surprised her with his behavior and that she completely believed in him. They kissed and decided to attend the upcoming birthday party together.
Rick and Mel made plans to meet up with Leah and discussed how amazing the love between Cassie and Josh continued to be, despite the insanity of their situation. They both admitted it'd been a long time since they had felt that kind of passion. Rick suggested they separate; Mel agreed. When the couple met again later on Main Street, Rick asked for a divorce. Mel said she hates that they failed, but Rick said he couldn't give her what she deserved. They apologized to each other, hugged and agreed to end their marriage.
Doris got together with Jeffrey at Towers to discuss Josh's deal. When Doris said she wasn't ready to cut a deal, Jeff threatened to blackmail Doris by uncovering her connection (and Alan's) to Tammy's death. O'Neil warned that she'd be left out in the street like trash if evidence against her was revealed. Meanwhile, Lizzie invited a motley crew of her friends to Ashlee's birthday party (much to Ashlee's joy). Liz said the look on Doris's appalled face would make it worthwhile. Lizzie looked at pictures of Sarah, then at one of Doris and Alan. She screamed that she lost everything because of them and couldn't celebrate a birthday party because she was supposed to be in mourning.
Finally, Jeff returned to the police station and informed Josh and Cassie that Doris agreed to a plea bargain: 2 years in a minimum-security prison.

At the police station, Marina called herself an idiot for letting Cyrus, who she recently discovered was a big-time criminal/jewelry thief, get away. Mallet assured her that she was being a little overdramatic and harsh on herself, adding that now they just had to find this Cyrus character before he skipped town.
Meanwhile at Dinah's place, Cyrus and Dinah rehashed their tumultuous history and relationship. Cyrus told her that she looked amazing, then added that if it wasn't for Dinah, he wouldn't have spent the last few years rotting away behind bars. Dinah wondered how Cyrus was already out of prison, as his release was scheduled for the following day. When he asked if she'd received his flowers, Dinah said she had, but made sure he knew that she wasn't Didi Moore, noting that Didi Moore would never return because she was a thing of the past. Dinah seemed stunned when Cyrus admitted that he loved Didi. Cyrus wouldn’t let up and tried to manipulate Dinah, who said their relationship was only a business arrangement. Finally she offered him all the money in her purse (hoping that’s all he wanted), then she told him she was broke, thanks to his thieving ways. He continued to claim that she still owed him for what she did, adding that she wouldn’t have survived all of these years without him. Dinah asked him if he wanted revenge and wanted her to suffer for putting him behind bars. Cyrus countered that it’d be a start. Later, Cyrus kicked off his shoes and made himself comfortable, much to Dinah's chagrin. Then he started quizzing her about her relationship with Mallet. When Vanessa knocked on the door, Cyrus hid while Dinah tried to push her mom out, claiming she was tired. After she left, Cyrus gave Dinah one last threat, telling her that she had to repay him and she better figure out what's most important to her.
At Outskirts, Cassie asked Reva, who’d just paid Josh a visit in prison, how he was doing. Cassie begged Reva for her help, saying that they needed to do something because Josh is innocent. Reva coldly told Cassie she needed to get Josh out herself because Josh was only there to protect Cassie, anyway. Then Reva snapped at her sis, who said she still didn't remember anything from the night of Alan's shooting (but she could make something up), and surmised that Reva probably wished Cassie was the one being held responsible. Reva said there was still another way to free Josh and as the duo made a toast with their beers, Reva reluctantly volunteered to help.
At the Spaulding mansion, Alan-Michael (still wheelchair-bound) caught Beth with HB's gun. A-M asked Beth what she was doing and asked if she shot Alan; she denied it. As they handled the gun, they both realized that the investigation would turn on the Spauldings if the police discovered that the gun was in the house (surprise, surprise) and wondered what they should do. Then when an unsuspecting Ava suddenly barged into the room, announcing she was all moved in, A-M hid the gun.
At Cedars, Mallet approached Beth yet again. She was terse, telling Mallet to leave her alone because as far as she's concerned, the case is closed thanks to Josh's confession. Mallet claimed he was just covering his bases trying to answer some unsolved questions, chiefly, "where is the murder weapon?" Then Cassie, who was also at the hospital, asked Beth how she could stand by Alan after all the suffering he'd caused. Beth admitted she didn't want to see anything more happen to Cassie's family. Cassie said Beth could help her, then suggested that Beth could rally others (Lizzie, A-M) to speak on Josh's behalf to help prove his innocence. Beth was taken aback but said she couldn't help Cassie, then quickly turned to leave. Meanwhile, Reva paid Jeff an unexpected visit, asking for his help. She wondered if Cassie would have a better chance of getting off if she confessed to shooting Alan. Jeff said he couldn't take on Reva's "case" and refused to hear her out, finally telling her to just pray that the cops find another suspect.
Jeffrey assured Olivia over the phone that his plan to get Ava out of the Spaulding mansion would work, despite her reservations. When Buzz suddenly entered the room, he grabbed Liv's phone, said "Bye Jeffrey" and hung up. Liv acted upset that Buzz assumed she was on the phone with Jeff, but Buzz wasn't giving in. He told Liv to never lie to him again. Ever. The couple bickered, then Buzz said he wasn't jealous of Liv spending time with Jeff, but that he just didn't trust him. When they made amends, they both agreed that their common goal was to get Ava away from the Spauldings. Later on Main Street, Marina whined to Buzz about being a such a terrible cop, then resolved aloud that she'd do everything she could to find the thief. Once back at the police station, Mallet told Marina that his little encounter with Beth gave him the willies and something just didn’t sit right with him. He surmised that the case of Alan’s shooting and his relationship with Beth was likely going to take a turn. When Marina continued to pout over her lack of policing skills, Mallet told her she was young and that she "needed to get a life" and start dating.
Back at the Spaulding manse, Jeffrey showed up; Ava was peeved, especially after he questioned her recent move-in. Jeff said he was actually there to see A-M (as Josh's attorney) and tried to lay a guilt trip on Ava for hanging out with a family that was attempting to incarcerate an innocent man. Beth called Jeff a bully, while Ava begged him to get lost. She continued to ignore her dad's warnings and then he split. Once alone, A-M reassured Ava about their current situation and he smirked as Ava showed signs of being smitten with him. When Ava left the room, A-M got out of his wheelchair and grabbed the gun from its hiding place.
