GL Recaps Week of March 19, 2007

Friday, March 23, 2007
A butler wheeled Alan inside the Spaulding mansion, allowing Reva to sneak in the open door. Alan-Michael realized his father was still unconscious. Reva frantically searched the study until A-M hobbled in and berated her for using Alan. Reva claimed she thought Alan was waking up, so she wanted to bring him to familiar surroundings. A-M called the cops.

Harley was complaining to Frank that she couldn't get a warrant when Lizzie strolled by, so Harley asked her if she had anything she'd like to say about any criminal cases. Lizzie said she wants the truth to come out, so Harley asked for permission to search the Spaulding mansion. Lizzie protested but brought her home, where Harley walked in on A-M and Reva. He wanted Reva arrested. Harley took her aside for a scolding, then decided to thoroughly search the room to see if anything was missing. A-M changed his mind, but Harley admitted she's looking for the gun. A-M went to call his lawyer and Reva left for court while Harley searched. Meanwhile, Lizzie happened upon Alan propped up in a hallway, and screamed. Later, she apparently returned Alan to the hospital herself. A nurse checked his blood pressure and pupils, then called for a doctor. Meanwhile, Harley found the hollowed-out book, but no gun!

Josh and Cassie embraced in the courthouse elevator before exiting to a sea of photographers. Jeffrey told Josh he didn't want the defendant to testify because he has new strategy: creating reasonable doubt by making everyone look guilty. Josh agreed — but only if Cassie is kept off the stand. Cassie returned Josh's ring and told him to change the inscription. ADA Hornsby made a brief opening statement that Josh intended to kill Alan. Jeffrey's opening was even briefer: "My client didn't do it." On the stand, Frank said Josh described the shooting as self-defense, but the evidence didn't support that. Jeffrey's cross pointed out that when Frank talked to Josh, he had no lawyer and wasn't even Mirandized until after confessing. Jeffrey cited Roland v. Pennsylvania as making the confession inadmissible. The judge bought it, and tossed out Josh's confession. During a recess, Cassie and Billy celebrated, but Hornsby told Josh that DA Doris wants a conviction — any conviction — so if Josh walks he will go after Cassie, and the charges will stick. Then Reva arrived with word of Josh's gun being at the Spaulding place. With court about to resume, Josh took Reva aside and asked,"Do you love me?" He begged her not to incriminate herself, but rather him. He explained that the ADA will go after Cassie. Reva was counting on Harley finding that gun. (Um, oops!)

At the Spaulding homestead, A-M asked Lizzie if she talked to Reva. Lizzie wondered if it would be so bad if the right person was punished for shooting her grandfather? He warned her to forget she saw the gun and clam up. Back in court, Jeffrey formally asked for charges to be dropped. Incredibly, the judge denied the motion. ADA Hornsby admitted he had no other witnesses. So, with Josh's (now-suppressed) confession gone, the case amounted to Frank's assertion that a luger was registered to Josh. Apparently that was enough for the judge, who ordered Jeffrey to present a defense. So he called Reva to the stand...

A quick injection kept Alan from regaining consciousness seconds before Lizzie visited with the news that Josh is standing trial for attempted murder, and she feels sad for his family. Meanwhile, Billy and Reva fretted over how to win Josh's case. At the Spaulding mansion, Beth walked in on Alan-Michael examining Josh's gun. They wondered who originally planted it, since neither of them did. Lizzie peered into the room and spotted the shiny gun. Beth and Alan-Michael agreed it's okay if Josh takes the fall, as long as the family is protected. Lizzie and Ava walked in on Beth massaging Alan-Michael. They were suspicious, but Beth left him to Ava. Later, outside Company, Lizzie overheard Reva giving Josh a pep talk. Lizzie confessed the Jonathan/Sarah stuff has left her feeling guilty/responsible. Reva wondered what Lizzie knows. A flustered Lizzie admitted she knows where Josh's gun is. It's at the Spaulding mansion, but she doesn't think he did it. Reva praised her for doing the right thing, but Lizzie was distraught. Back at the Spaulding manse, Beth dragged Ava away from Alan-Michael to quiz her about what she said to Lizzie. Then she needled the younger woman about the gossip about her and the boss, and cautioned her about being dazzled by wealth — or maybe she'll turn out like Olivia. Later, Alan-Michael pulled Ava onto his lap and told her to ignore Beth. Lizzie returned and embraced her mother, sobbing, "I'm so sorry." She said she feels so awful about Jonathan and Sarah that she just wanted to make the pain go away. Beth told her to hush up and vowed to keep her daughter safe, no matter what, leaving Lizzie puzzled. Alan-Michael and Ava made a date for later. He walked to his room and stocked it with champagne and lit candles. Beth sneaked up on him and tried to lure him into bed, but he wasn't interested, and threw the furious Beth out. Downstairs, Lizzie and Ava informed each other that neither is like her mother.

Harley found Gus working on a photo album, because he wanted Daisy to feel like part of the family. Daisy arrived and embraced Gus, recalling their kiss. Harley warned Daisy to crack the books more. Gus had a plan for Daisy: spending the day with Buzz and Billy! Meanwhile, Gus and Harley spent some alone time together. Harley again fretted over Daisy hating her, but Gus assured her it's normal. Daisy took the guys shipping. Billy got her a gift and they chatted. Buzz gave Daisy Nickelback tix. Gus and Harley were having fully clothed fun when Billy called to offer to buy Daisy a car, but Harley put her foot down. Gus suddenly decided to go back to work, but Reva was at the door. She told Harley the gun is at the Spaulding house. Harley couldn't get a warrant because Judge Parker was at lunch. Gus and Harley went to Company (which was deserted despite being lunchtime) and smooched. Billy brought Daisy there, and she saw Gus and Harley.

Reva went to Alan's room and forcefully told him he's not taking Josh's life away. Later, the doorbell rang at the Spaulding mansion. Alan-Michael checked the security camera, which showed Alan sitting in wheelchair. He couldn't see Reva hiding nearby.

The modern-day Reverend Ruthledge counseled Josh in his holding cell. By threatening not to take the plea bargain deal, Josh convinced Doris to release him for the night before his plea was to be entered. Meanwhile, RJ found Cassie looking pensive and she explained that she was thinking of all of the fun things they would do together once Josh was home. Just then, Josh returned to the farm and explained that he was a free man for the night. Well, sort of...there was guard posted outside. Cassie, RJ and Josh had a fun-filled night of dancing video games, burned dinner and petty vandalism before returning home. Josh asked RJ to cheer Cassie up when she needed it by either burping the alphabet or just hugging his mom. Cassie told RJ it was time for bed. He protested but quickly fell asleep on the couch. Cassie and Josh made love, and he had difficulty sleeping afterward.

In the morning, Jeffrey assured Josh that the plea deal was a good one, but Billy chided his brother for taking the fall for Cassie. Josh called Shayne, who was understandably upset that his father would be going to prison. Reva assured Josh that that Shayne knows Josh loves him. The exes bantered. "I've been through tougher things than prison. I was married to you," teased Josh. Reva told Josh that he was the best man she had ever known. In the courtroom, Josh said his goodbyes and gave hugs to his loved ones.

Josh was asked if he accepted the plea, but when new information was presented to the prosecutor, he asked for a continuance. Doris made Josh recount his version of the shooting again before revealing that Alan was shot at a distance of at least 7 feet, meaning that Josh's self-defense scenario was a lie. Doris took back the two-year plea deal and told Josh the least she would consider given the new evidence was 10 years. Josh told a distraught Cassie about the new plea deal. Billy shamed Josh that H.B. would have fought the charges, but Josh told Jeffrey that he would take the deal. When the judge asked Josh for his decision, Josh made a long speech in which he claimed that while two years for the crime was fair, 10 wasn't and he planned to fight the charges. Josh's friends and family cheered. The Josh Lewis fan club threw an impromptu defense strategy meeting at the farm, where Reva, Cassie and Billy all decided to incriminate themselves to help Josh go free, while a mysterious person watched the gathering from outside.

Reva confided to Daisy about Josh's possible prison term and Daisy claimed that she liked it better when Harley was a long-distance mom. Reva inappropriately suggested that her teenaged granddaughter might meet a nice young doctor while candy striping, but Daisy thought she was more likely to catch "a horrible infectious disease." Reva gifted Daisy with a family photo album and asked her not to tell Harley about the present. Meanwhile, Gus wondered if Alan was faking his coma. Harley tried to startle Alan out of his (possibly phony) unconscious state by grabbing him, but he didn't flinch. Gus and Harley questioned Daisy about her new job, and the teen revealed that it was a full-time position. Daisy dropped the photo album from Reva and explained that her grandmother just wanted her to know she was loved. Harley asked Daisy to spend the day with her so that they could work out their issues, but Daisy said she had to work. Harley left the hospital upset and Gus spotted Daisy dressed in her regular clothes and preparing to leave the hospital. He realized that she lied about having to work. Gus promised that Harley's overprotectiveness was because she loved Daisy and wanted her to be happy. Daisy was upset to realize that she wasn't in any of the family photos but Gus assured that Harley talked about her all the time. "That's how I got to know you before I even met you," he comforted. When he went to kiss Daisy on the cheek she reached up and kissed him on the lips. Gus was extremely apologetic about the kiss.

Reva found Harley at Company. When Reva revealed that the next day was Daisy's first on the job, Harley realized that Daisy lied about having to work to get out of having to talk to her. Reva bought Harley a drink and they discussed Jonathan and Daisy. Reva urged Harley not to give up on Daisy and Harley claimed that she didn't want Reva to fill the void in her life with Daisy. Harley accused Reva of never forgiving her for not telling when Dylan got her pregnant.

Marina held a gun on Cyrus, but he put his finger over the barrel of the weapon, not intimidated. Cyrus announced that he wouldn't go back to prison. Meanwhile, Mallet and Dinah's conversation was interrupted by his ringing phone. Remy arrived, but Dinah gave him the brush-off. Mallet left for home with Dinah after telling Remy that Frank was looking for him. At the police station, Remy helped control an out-of-control perp. Frank said he was working on getting Remy's job back, but Remy said he didn't want it anymore because of the department's handling of Tammy's death.

Dinah and Mallet returned to the Beacon to find their door open. Marina arrived soon afterward with Cyrus. Dinah lied that she didn't know him, but then changed her mind and hugged him warmly. "Don't mess this up for me," she hissed to Cyrus. Dinah claimed that they knew each other from her years on the run in Europe. Marina told Mallet about the smiley face she found in the security system at the jewelry store. Cyrus said he wanted to clean up his life like Dinah. Marina claimed that she had a job for him and escorted Cyrus from the room. Mallet told Dinah he didn't think Cyrus' appearance was a surprise for her. She reluctantly admitted that she knew Cyrus was in town and Mallet asked for her assurances that she was done with Cyrus. Marina showed Cyrus the ropes at his new job...as janitor at the police station. As he cleaned, Cyrus wore the bracelet that Mallet gave Dinah.

Marina was disappointed that she hadn't seen through Cyrus. Mallet asked Marina to help him look for a gift for Dinah and she agreed. Marina found a smiley face note in the security system at the jewelry store that had been robbed, just like the one that was left for Dinah when her bank accounts were wiped out. Meanwhile, Dinah went to warn Vanessa that Cyrus was in town but was surprised when the ex-con himself showed up beside her and knocked on Vanessa and Matt's door. Vanessa reminded that Cyrus tried to ruin Dinah's life, but he claimed that his debt to society was paid. "Here's to a long and profitable association," Cyrus toasted, pitching himself for a role in Matt and Vanessa's new business venture, but they emphatically refused. Cyrus insisted Dinah leave with him and invited her to dinner, but she explained that she had plans with her "detective fiancé" and had no intention of spending time with Cyrus. Cyrus swiped Dinah's room key. Marina found him in Dinah's room and held him at gunpoint. Meanwhile, Mallet gifted Dinah with a bracelet and she wept at the sweet gesture. She worried that she wasn't as reformed as he believed her to be, but Mallet claimed that her unpredictability made him look forward to getting up in the morning.

Gus was upset no one told him that Alan opened his eyes, and he arrived at his father's hospital room to find it empty. Rick explained that Alan was undergoing tests and still in a coma — when Alan opened his eyes, it was only a reflex, claimed the doc. Rick hinted that he would be moving out of Gus and Harley's home soon. Harley mused that Rick was suspiciously happy for a man who was going through a divorce. Daisy arrived dressed for her candy striper detail and refused to speak directly to Harley. Gus assured Daisy that Harley was only tough on her because they were so much alike. Gus lamented that no one would give him information on Alan's condition, so Daisy swiped the Spaulding patriarch's chart. "You did a good job, partner," Gus praised. Harley visited Buzz and wondered why her relationship with Daisy was so troubled. "She's 17 and you're her mother," Buzz reasoned. Rick boasted to Harley that Beth was pregnant with Alan's child and he planned to raise the baby with her. Gus called Harley and told her that Rick administered the sedative that put Alan back into his coma. Gus took Daisy to Company where Harley chided her husband for encouraging Daisy to steal hospital records. Harley revealed that Rick believed he had a future with Beth...and Alan was the only thing standing in the way of his happiness.

The front page of the Springfield newspaper detailed Josh's possible plea deal (and was accompanied by a lovely headshot of Robert Newman). Cassie assured RJ that Josh would eventually be home, though he could be gone for up to two years. RJ wailed that they couldn't be happy without Josh. Cassie agreed and left to see Josh, hoping to convince her intended not to accept the plea deal. RJ found the newspaper Cassie had hidden and saw the article about Josh. Meanwhile, Buzz warned that if Josh was going to prison he should be at peace with it. "I can tell that you're not," Buzz said. Cassie visited Josh and he gifted her with a real engagement ring. She thought the gesture meant that he was going to fight the charges against him until he revealed the inscription: "March 19, 2009," the date that he would be released from prison after serving out the time for his plea deal. She tried to give the ring back, but Josh put it on her finger. RJ ran in and Josh tried to comfort the boy. He told RJ where to find H.B.'s pocket watch and promised that he would think of RJ every day at 8 o'clock just as his father had once promised to him. Josh insisted that Cassie and RJ wouldn't miss him as much as he thought. Cassie pleaded with Josh once more not to take the deal, but he insisted it was necessary.
