GL Recaps Week of May 14, 2007

Jeffrey told Cassie he was leaving for New York, and she accused him of running away from home. She asked Jeffrey to help her ensure that Alan didn't switch the paternity results and invoked her poor, dead daughter to convince him. Cassie thought Jeffrey would regret leaving town and leaving his daughter behind. At Company, Jeffrey and Cassie spotted Norman, the lab tech Alan had paid to fix the paternity test. Under pressure, Norman confessed that he had been paid off. Jeffrey carted Norman to the hospital to tell supervisors about Norman's extracurricular activities. Norman dropped his hospital pass key, and Cassie pocketed it.

Under orders from Alan, Lizzie stalled Rick so that he wouldn't find out about the amnio. She called the doc and told him that she couldn't breathe. Lizzie explained that she had been lighting candles for baby Sarah before her panic attack and lamented that people had forgotten about the baby she lost. Alan called to ensure that Lizzie was keeping Rick busy, and Lizzie promised she was. Rick told Lizzie that she was like a daughter to him and lamented that he hadn't been a better father. When Rick wished for another chance to be a dad, the guilt became too much for Lizzie and she told him about the test. "I think you're a great dad and you deserve to know the truth," she praised.

A teenage boy held Josh at knifepoint and demanded money. When Josh tried to talk him down, the boy stabbed Josh in the hand. A police officer saw the altercation and arrested the boy. Josh visited the teen in juvenile hall. Josh questioned the boy about his family but he didn't answer. Josh did learn, however, that the boy's name is Rafe. Josh left Rafe a business card and encouraged the teen to contact him if he could ever be of help.

Alan beamed after seeing the baby's ultrasound, but Beth worried about the paternity test. Alan assured her that "Daddy's got everything under control." Or not. Just then, Jeffrey dragged Norman into Beth's hospital room and announced that the shady technician would no longer be conducting the test. Rick burst in brandishing the paternity order. Rick and Alan donated their DNA samples. Cassie encountered a newly-bandaged Josh, and he lied that he sliced his hand on the garbage disposal, while Cassie responded with a half-truth of her own, claiming that she was at the hospital to pick up a prescription for Blake. Beth blasted Cassie for interfering in the paternity matter. Beth claimed that the baby was certainly Alan's, and she knew she was pregnant the night she conceived. Cassie spat that Beth deserved whatever she got. Beth told an excited Lizzie the baby was a girl, and Lizzie happily relayed the news to Buzz. Lizzie beamed that she would have so much fun with "my little girl." Cassie broke into the hospital computer and saw that the paternity results listed Alan as the baby's father.

Lillian told Cassie that Beth and the baby should be okay. Germ-phobic Alan demanded "protection" from Rick Bauer. Beth was sure Rick didn't know about the amnio, but Rick was eavesdropping. Elsewhere, Josh wondered why Cassie made three cups of coffee, but she covered. She admitted she suspects Alan will rig the amnio — which means he suspects he's not the father. When Beth sent Alan to fetch Buzz's chili with extra cheese and onions, Rick came in with a gift: a onezie reading, "Springfield High Class of 2026." Rick asked if she really wants Alan to raise the kid. He doesn't want to say "I told you so" in 20 years. At Company, Alan ran into Leah and suggested Rick may be ready for a reconciliation, so she should ask her parents to get back together. Mel arrived and told Alan, "When you were in that coma I should have smothered you." Mel didn't know Beth was pregnant. Alan suggested that by pursuing Beth, Rick was subconsciously trying to reunite his own family. Cassie insisted Alan has to be taken down because "This is what Tammy wants." She asked Josh to call other doctors to do independent tests on Beth. He balked, because too may people will be hurt. They admitted they love each other, so she shouldn't worry about Alan. Josh claimed there's a power "infinitely greater than Alan." He admitted he lost faith in prison, but came out of it through prayer. Mel summoned Rick to tell him about Alan and asked when he planned to tell he thinks he's the father of Beth's baby. Alan delivered the chili and tossed Rick's onezie in the trash. Mel confronted Rick, who told her he was waiting for the paternity test results. So she offered to represent him for $1. Alan says he "guarantees" the test results.

Jeffrey summoned Mel to his room to hand over his half of the law firm so he could move to New York. Mel asked him to stay and make it work with Olivia for Ava's sake, but he declined. Later, Ava burst in to blast Jeffrey for messing with Olivia's marriage, and for leaving when she's just getting to know him. He insisted she matters, and he's glad she's his daughter. What happened to Olivia "when we were kids" was the worst mistake of his life — but out of it came "something incredible": Ava. Nevertheless, he has to go.

Frank told Reva that Olivia broke Buzz's heart. He claimed he relates to Reva/Josh because when his father and Olivia started their fling he stepped aside to give them their chance. She said that's not why she let Josh go — she thought she was dying. He said, "No matter how much you love someone, it all comes down to family." Reva sought out Buzz, grabbed him by lapels and barked, "If you love somebody, you have got to fight for them!" People who give up are weak and sad. Is she going after Josh? he asked. Later, Reva found Josh on Main Street and told him there would be no charges against Cassie. Then she recalled the night on the lighthouse when they tore up their divorce papers, and wondered if he's changed his mind about destiny. She revealed Lillian wants her as the "poster girl" for cancer fund-raising. Josh said he's trying to take responsibility for his choices and told Reva to take the job. She said she plans to throw wild parties and blackmail people into making large donations. In fact, she laughed and said he should write a big fat check "or I'll tell Cassie we slept together." "Maybe we'd all be better off if you did that," he replied. Cassie sought out Jeffrey to help her "punish Alan Spaulding."

Josh was determined to repair the bells in the lighthouse tower, and with Billy's help he did. The brothers were hailed as heroes at Company, where Josh made speech about the bells helping people find their way home. Harley called the bells "magical" — then, as if by magic, they started ringing again. And again. Every 37 minutes. Josh and Billy (joined by Remy) tried to make adjustments, but couldn't. Remy said the previous lighthouse keeper is now in New Hampshire, and refuses to fly to Springfield to help. At 12:27 a.m., Main Street was packed with people who couldn't sleep.

DAY TWO
Natalia and Marina griped about sleep deprivation while Cyrus lurked. Cassie had faith Josh could fix things. Atop the lighthouse, the bells woke a snoozing Josh. Billy said the old keeper still refuses to help. Cassie told Tammy's ghost she's tired of the lack of sleep and lack of justice — the bells mark Alan getting on with his life. Josh arrived to pick up some tools, and Cassie assured him, "You fix everything," and hugged him while ghostTammy looked on. Josh returned to Billy at lighthouse, and wondered if he should tell Cassie what happened with Reva. Billy advised him to say nothing, then gave Josh a Richard Nixon mask to wear in public. (How about some ear muffs?) The bells sounded slightly later this time.

DAY THREE
Gus arrived with a sledgehammer, but Josh wrestled it away from him, insisting that smashing the bells would solve nothing. (Well, except for the bell problem!) Gus asked Josh if he ever met a soulmate but was too young/stupid to realize she was The One? He said there was someone before Harley, when he was younger, and now she, Natalia, has moved here and is "putting down roots." And Harley doesn't know Natalia was his "only true love — except for Harley, of course." He fretted about telling her, but Josh advised him to confess. Then he called himself a hypocrite. Harley startled Marina, who was snoozing at Company. Marina felt like Cyrus was watching her — and she feels like she has feelings for him! Harley called it "Stockholm Syndrome," and told her to give it some time. Cassie still managed to be startled by the bells, and broke a plate in anger. ghostTammy comforted her just as Josh returned and said, "We need to talk." False alarm: He just apologized for spending so much time with the bells. Gus, meanwhile, sat Harley down to tell her he used to be in love with Natalia, but he walked out on her after his father died. He feels stupid for not telling Harley, who seemed confident she has nothing to worry about. Cyrus suddenly appeared in Marina's room, and she wasn't sure if she was dreaming him. He said he was "waylaid" on his way to Australia and got a job. She was sleepy, so he tried to leave, but she stopped him and they kissed. Natalia laid down for a nap at Company and Remy covered her with a tablecloth. After Josh left, ghostTammy asked why Cassie doesn't tell him about her. Cassie said she's not ready to give her up. ghostTammy suggested there is a way to ruin Alan's happiness. After Billy told Josh the lighthouse keeper got on a train for Springfield but it derailed, Josh admitted defeat and beat the bells into silence with a sledgehammer. Gus and Harley reveled in the silence. Cassie thanked God — make that Josh. Marina kissed Cyrus and passed out; he covered her up and left. Tammy watched Cassie snooze, then disappeared. Josh told Billy he tried to tell Cassie the truth but couldn't, and didn't know what was right. Billy said he needs faith. Josh said he needs a sign. Then he noticed there were words scratched into a bell gear — GUIDING LIGHT's opening theme: "There is a destiny...."

Blake interrupted Dinah and Mallet's smooching and sent the couple out for pancakes. Then Blake summoned Matt: She wanted him to renovate Dinah and Mallet's suite to make it more handicap accessible. Blake gossiped that Mallet and Dinah were fighting over Cyrus. Meanwhile, Mallet was praised for his work on the crime commission. When Mallet left to run errands for Blake, Matt asked Dinah about her troubled marriage. Dinah was miffed that Blake was spreading rumors, but Matt counseled her not to let Blake get to her. Meanwhile, Blake fell trying to get out of her scooter and Mallet helped her. Mallet fished that if Blake heard anything in her coma, it would be old news. "Some time old news is the worst kind," menaced Blake. Dinah returned home, and Blake scooted off. Mallet claimed he was close to getting somewhere with Blake when Dinah interrupted, but Dinah just wanted Blake out of their home.

Ava told Coop that Alan-Michael was gone. They talked about Buzz and Olivia's problems and Ava suggested that like their parents, she and Coop could use a little R&R themselves. "I think you're shameless," chided Coop and accused her of using Buzz's pain as an excuse to get close to Coop. Coop claimed he couldn't just blow off his job. "I didn't sleep with my boss to get mine," he spat, storming out. Later, Coop apologized to Ava and assured he knew she didn't sleep her way to the top. Coop offered Ava half of his sandwich. "That's how third graders make up," she pouted. Ava explained to Coop that she wanted a second chance. Ava swiped half of Coop's sandwich on her way out the door and told Coop that she never had sex with Alan-Michael.

At juvenile hall, Daisy refused to see Harley. Gus didn't want to visit without his wife, but Harley insisted. Gus accused Daisy of traveling to Chicago to visit a guy, and she wondered if he was jealous. Gus realized that Daisy really made the trip to find Natalia. Daisy was shocked to learn that though Natalia had moved to Springfield, Gus hadn't yet told Harley about his ex. Coop arrived at juvie to teach, and Ashlee offered to give her dog to Buzz to cheer him up. Daisy pumped Coop for info on Natalia and when he left, teased Ashlee about her crush on Coop. Daisy told Ashlee that Coop had confided that he was over Ava, and secretly watched as Ashlee celebrated the news.

Harley helped Natalia at CO2 and commented they had a lot in common (more than you know, Harley). When Harley confided that her daughter was in juvie, Natalia counseled Harley to give her daughter more time. Harley praised that she was glad to have Natalia in town. Mallet gave Natalia a history lesson of Harley's tangled romantic past. "Gus is my fourth and hopefully my last husband," Harley admitted. When Gus arrived, Harley immediately questioned him about Daisy. When Harley excused herself, Gus confronted Natalia about meeting Daisy, and Natalia claimed she just wanted to say goodbye. She promised to make an effort to stay out of his way. Meanwhile, Harley lied that she was Daisy's boarding school roommate to trick her daughter into accepting her call, but Daisy hung up on her.

Blake made herself at home in Dinah and Mallet's Beacon suite, setting up photos and putting her clothing in Dinah's dresser. She ran over Dinah and Mallet with her motorized scooter in her rush to get to a letter from her kids. Blake asked Mallet for help getting the SpringfieldBurns charges dismissed, implying she would reveal his secret if they weren't. When Mallet left, Blake praised to Dinah that Mallet was handsome and reminded her of Ross. Dinah urged Blake not to take advantage of her husband.

Marina cuffed a man she believed to be Cyrus, but was embarrassed to find he was merely a look-alike. Frank urged Marina to take time off to rest after being shot, and Mallet argued that she was too emotionally invested to work on the Cyrus case. Marina suspected the crook was long gone anyway. Mallet argued the Springfield PD shouldn't pursue charges against Blake for her SpringfieldBurns crimes, and Frank explained that the governor had asked them to drop the case. Marina received a call from Cyrus, who informed her that the weather was wonderful Down Under. Mallet called and gave Dinah the news that the charges were dropped, which she relayed to Blake, fibbing that Mallet had been responsible for clearing her. Dinah then lied that Mallet had to work at the police station, but Blake spied the newlyweds kissing in the hallway.

Alexandra and Alan clashed over his decision to force Alan-Michael to leave town. Alex claimed her brother was pushing everyone and everything else aside for Beth's baby. When Alex wondered if the child was even his, Alan countered that any paternity test would confirm what he wanted it to confirm. Alex fired her driver and hired Cyrus on the spot to be his replacement.

At the lighthouse, Josh assured Reva that he was serious when he claimed that he wouldn't go back to Lewis. She slipped and he grabbed her. "You saved me again," she smiled. Josh confided to Reva that he was concerned about Cassie's mental state. Reva explained to Josh that she didn't want to hear about his problems with Cassie. "At least have the decency to feel awkward," she spat. Josh agreed he wasn't treating either Cassie or Reva fairly.

Beth and Cassie argued over Alan and the baby, and Beth fell to the floor. A police officer arrived and the two women went with him to the hospital. As the policeman questioned Cassie, Alan arrived and wondered if Cassie was involved in Beth's fall. Meanwhile, Josh received a call about Beth's fall and rushed to the hospital with Reva. He pulled Cassie away from the police, and Reva asked Cassie if she had pushed Beth. Cassie accused Reva of trying to turn Josh against her, but Reva insisted that wasn't how she would try to win Josh back. Beth told Alan that Cassie was responsible for her fall. Josh threatened Alan and Spaulding told police that the fall was an accident. The doctor assured that Beth and the baby were fine, but suggested an amnio to be safe.
