GL Recaps Week of May 28, 2007Friday, June 1, 2007 Mallet flashed back to his life as a hit man. He told Dinah he had to leave for work. Dinah found Mallet's hit man suitcase under the bed and opened it, finding his gun and Griggs' phone number. Josh spotted Mallet and Matt on Main Street and shared the happy news that Cassie had forgiven him — and he planned to make her his bride that night! Matt wondered if Cassie was pregnant, but Josh explained that he just wanted to prove his commitment to her. Josh thanked Mallet for saving Cassie, but Mallet brushed off the praise. Josh asked Reverend Ruthledge to perform the marriage ceremony. Dinah called Mallet and told him that she knew he wasn't working. She ordered her new husband home immediately. When Mallet arrived at the Beacon, Dinah asked for the truth about the gun. He claimed it was there for their "protection," but she wasn't buying. Mallet finally admitted that he had killed a man. Mallet claimed that the shooting made him feel powerful...until he saw the man's son. Dinah reminded Mallet that she had killed too. She comforted that she had to believe they both were capable of change. Dinah and Mallet made love. When Mallet left to pick up food for a picnic, he came face-to-face with Griggs in the hallway.
Reva showed up to see Cassie and confronted her sister about faking the paternity results. Reva explained that she had footage from the hospital security camera proving that Cassie was guilty. Reva accused her sister of playing God, but Cassie insisted the baby would be better off with Rick as
her father. Cassie vowed not to let Alan ruin another child's life. Reva reluctantly agreed not to tell anyone about the paternity swap. Cassie said making sure Beth's baby was raised by Rick would give Tammy, Jonathan and
Sarah's lives meaning. Reva wondered if Cassie and Josh reconciled, and Cassie related that they were still engaged and planning to marry. Cassie
stated that Josh loves her. "But not the way he loves me," insisted Reva. "It will never be like that." Reva threatened that she and Josh would be
thrown together again...and she would hate for anything to happen after Josh and Cassie wed (the unspoken subtext being that Cassie should call off the wedding). Cassie kicked Reva out. Josh returned home with flowers for Cassie
and asked her to marry him immediately. Cassie wanted Josh to do something
for her first — spend the night with Reva. At Cross Creek, Reva smashed a
photo of Reva, Josh and Cassie.
Thursday, May 31, 2007 Lizzie and Beth wondered where Alan was when he was late to meet them to attend an event in his honor at Cedars. Rick showed up instead and he, Lizzie and Beth headed for Company without Alan. In the kitchen, Lizzie talked to Ruthledge about Beth's baby, admitting she sometimes forgot that the child wasn't hers. At Cedars, a hospital photographer took a "family photo" of Lizzie, Beth and Rick. Lizzie beamed that Rick would make a great dad. When Alan was a no-show, Beth asked Lizzie to speak to those assembled for the event. Lizzie refused, explaining that she had too much to drink, so Rick gave the speech instead. Rick announced that Alan would make a much larger donation to the hospital. Lizzie praised Rick to Beth, saying that he made Beth act more like the woman she was when Lizzie was growing up, but Beth responded that she didn't want to be that person any more. Too bad, replied Lizzie — it would be nice for the baby to have parents who laugh. Alan finally arrived and Beth told him that it was time to work on a custody "arrangement" with Rick, but Alan cryptically responded that a lot could happen before Beth gave birth. Josh arrived at the hospital looking for Cassie, but Reva informed him that she checked herself out. Josh wondered why show would do that and Reva proposed that it could be so she could avoid seeing them. Josh left a frantic message for Cassie, and Reva annoyed her ex by suggesting that Cassie was in a downward spiral he refused to see. Meanwhile, Alan needled Cassie about Reva and Josh's prison romp. When Cassie told Alan that he didn't deserve compassion, Alan replied: "Why should I pretend to be a saint? Look where it got Josh." Alan wondered aloud what the church would think of Josh's sexcapades. When Alan mentioned Tammy's name, Cassie slapped him and warned that Josh used to keep her in line, but that was no longer the case. When Alan saw Josh, he continued his tirade with a new target and Josh punched him. Reva spotted Cassie on the docks and thought she was trying to commit suicide. Cassie was annoyed that everyone thought she was trying to kill herself. The two women got into it over Josh. "I trusted by sister," lamented Cassie. "So did I," responded Reva. "Well, then, I guess we were both wrong," spat Cassie and left. Reva picked up the hospital pass key that fell out of Cassie's bag. Reva threw away the key, but then pulled it out of the garbage. When Jeffrey explained to Reva that he and Cassie didn't break into the lab together, she realized Cassie may have swapped the paternity results. Rev. Ruthledge wondered if Cassie needed his guidance (darn, that guy is everywhere and in everyone's business), but she didn't want to talk. Josh found Cassie. She explained she had new clarity after her near-death experience. When she thought she was dying, Cassie claimed, her future life with Josh flashed before her eyes. She showed Josh the ring and explained she couldn't force herself to throw it into the water. Josh put the ring back onto her finger, and they kissed.
Wednesday, May 30, 2007 In a flashback that looked like it was filmed on someone's cell phone camera, Mallet picked up a married woman in a bar and brought her back to his apartment where they had sex. In the present, Frank called Mallet and explained he had an assignment for him. Mallet told Dinah about his encounter with Matt, and she announced she would work on getting Vanessa to forgive her husband. On his way to meet Frank, Mallet saw Matt take an envelope from a man on Main Street (in plain sight, where all of Springfield's shady dealings take place). Flashback: Mallet met with Jesse Hubbard, er, I mean a mystery man (hi, Darnell Williams), who showed Mallet photos of his one-night stand and congratulated Mallet on his work. The mystery man planned to blackmail the woman's husband with the photos. Mallet's shady boss gave him photos of the man who would be his next "mark." Present: Frank wondered why Mallet was so edgy, and Mallet fudged that he was exhausted because he is a newlywed. Frank asked Mallet to shake down Cyrus, but Mallet insisted that people should have the opportunity to turn their lives around. Flashback: Mallet called Harley, upset that she didn't respond to his letters after he slept with his ex-partner. Present: Frank granted Mallet time off for a vacation with Dinah. He met Dinah for a picnic on the docks. They were disturbed by a noise, which turned out to be a troubled Cassie. She cried to Dinah that men couldn't be trusted. Cassie confided that Josh slept with Reva, and Mallet counseled forgiveness. Cassie explained that she wanted to thrown her ring to the bottom of the lake so she wouldn't ever put it on her finger again. Flashback: The woman Mallet slept with pulled a gun on him, demanding to know why he betrayed her. Mallet explained that he did it for the money and chided, "You're not one of the good people anymore," before escorting the shaken woman from his apartment. Present: Dinah noticed that Cassie's boat had tipped over and Mallet rescued her. As he worked to save Cassie's life, Mallet insisted that every life is precious. Flashback: Mallet shot his "mark." Present: At the hospital, Cassie assured Mallet that she never intended to drown herself; she simply slipped when she threw the ring. Cassie promised that while she hated what Josh and Reva had done, she wouldn't let it end her. Dinah suggested Cassie should have held onto the ring. She comforted that she had been in a similar situation to Cassie's a year ago. Everyone had a past, Dinah insisted, the key was to keep the past from ruining you. Mallet arranged to meet Matt and questioned him about the envelope drop, though Matt remained cagey. Flashback: Mallet watched as the young son of the man he shot cried. Mallet's shady boss praised that ex-cops were the best trigger men. A distraught Mallet went back to his apartment, where he ripped a wanted ad for corrections officers in Illinois out of the newspaper. Present: Dinah assured Mallet that whatever happened in his past, it made him "the superhero" he now is. She thought he had paid enough, but Mallet insisted nothing he could do would be enough to atone. Still, Mallet claimed he wouldn't let the past drag him down. Just then, Mallet's boss from his days as a hit man checked into a room at the Beacon that Blake had reserved for him.
Tuesday, May 29, 2007 Dinah sought help from Cyrus in protecting Mallet from his past. Cyrus and Marina bantered about his new job. Frank interrupted their flirtation and expressed concern that Marina was associating with Cyrus. Marina assured that she would never date someone like Cyrus. Frank planned to fix Marina up on a blind date, and she agreed...if Frank went outside with a Sanjaya-style mohawk. Frank went to Company so Buzz would vouch for him. Meanwhile, Alex gave Cyrus his Spaulding benefits package. Marina caught a police officer framing Cyrus as a pickpocket (at Frank's request), and ordered Cyrus to be released. When Cyrus wondered why she had helped him, Marina claimed she did things by the book. Mallet had a nightmare about someone named Griggs. He called out Dinah's name, but woke to find Blake in bed with him (fully dressed). Dinah walked in and grabbed Blake, insisting on taking her former stepmother to physical therapy instead of Mallet. At the hospital, Dinah pulled a needle on Blake and demanded to know what she wanted from Mallet. Mallet interrupted the argument and banished Dinah. Then Mallet tried to calm Blake. Blake huffed that Dinah was nothing but trouble and Mallet deserved better. She reached for Mallet's hand, but he balked, explaining he loves his wife. Blake responded that she knew about Mallet's dark past and insisted he do ANYTHING necessary to make her happy or she would spill. Mallet told Dinah that Blake knew his secret, but lied that Blake only wanted them to be nice to her. At the apartment, Blake snooped for info about Mallet's secret. She found a phone number and called someone named Griggs.
