GL Recaps Week of July 4, 2005

Mallet checked out a room at the Beacon and Harley scaled the walls to get in through the window. Mallet was sort of surprised that Harley actually kept her word and returned. Harley called Coop and told him to keep Company closed down for the night and that he needed to leave. Lizzie asked who that was and Coop said it was Harley and that they had to leave. Back at the Beacon, Mallet fretted that Harley's plan would backfire. Harley insisted that she knew what she was doing. Ever since Phillip was shot, Harley had been at everyone else's mercy, but tonight she was taking her power back, she was taking it all back.
At the courthouse, Gus got out on bail. Buzz said that he hoped that Gus and Harley could get married someday. Gus said that he needed to find Alan. Meanwhile, Mallet and Harley slipped through a door at the courthouse and started sneaking down the hallway until a guard called out to Mallet. Harley hid and the guy said he worked in the courthouse when Mallet and Harley got married. Mel approached Mallet and said that Gus was being processed. After they left, Mallet turned to Harley and said that the last time they were in this building they were getting married. Harley wasn't into going down memory lane, but soon apologized and said her head was really with Gus. In an empty courtroom, Buzz talked to God. After their chat, a messenger delivered a note to Buzz telling him to go to Company.
Gus ran into Lizzie and Coop at Nate's bar. Gus asked if they had seen Alan. Nope, they replied. Coop pulled Gus aside and said that he got a call from Harley. Gus split and the bartender gave Coop and Lizzie notes that said that they needed to get to Company. Back at the Bauers, Rick and Ross strolled across the patio. Mel arrived and said that Gus was out on bail. Mel then handed a note to Rick — the same note that Lizzie and Coop had gotten asking him to come to Company. Across town at Company, Alan broke in and flashed back to the night Phillip was shot. Alan placed his gun on the table and stared at the door.

Jeffrey and Cassie banked on Dinah turning Edmund into the police for kidnapping her. Jeff asked Cassie to an awards dinner, but she had to decline because it was the same night of R.J.'s party. Jeffrey announced he would skip the dinner and be there for R.J. but Cassie said he could go to his own function then show up late for cake and ice cream. Cassie fretted that their lives were getting complicated but Jeff calmed her down with a kiss.
Reva reeled from Olivia's confirmation that Nate was indeed Alfred. Reva vowed to make the snake suffer. Olivia wanted to call the police, but Reva feared their involvement would scare him off. Olivia suspected that Reva was romantically involved with Nate/Alfred. "Either you turn your boyfriend in or I will," Liv threatened. Reva confessed she was once smitten by his charms but nothing happened. Olivia surmised that Nate/Alfred has been terrorizing Jonathan since coming to Springfield. Reva suggested that Olivia spend a lot of time with Jonathan in order to keep him away from his abusive dad. Olivia objected to the plan, but Reva exacted a promise that they would keep it to themselves.
Edmund burst into Dinah's room and announced he was ready to have sex, but pointed out that he would be thinking of Cassie the whole time. Bill crashed the interlude and Edmund left. Bill informed his sister that he adopted Emma and asked Dinah to pose in a family photo. She was touched but turned down the offer because "I'm a liar and a fraud." Bill insisted that Dinah had changed and cited her pregnancy as proof. She convinced him to let her sit out on the photo session. Bill called Olivia and told her to meet him at Josh and Reva's right away. After Bill was gone, Edmund returned and took Dinah up on her offer to have sex so she wouldn't incriminate him. He told her to turn down the bed and he'll be back soon.
Jonathan encountered a depressed Tammy, who was upset by Sandy's accusation that she was hung up on Jon. Zoey then showed up and called him Sandy. Tammy deduced that Jonathan set up Sandy. Zoey stalked away and Tammy blasted Jonathan for his cruelty. Sandy arrived and she apologized for not believing him. Tammy explained how Jonathan framed Sandy. "You borrowed my life for a while, Sandy so I took yours," Jonathan sneered. Sandy and Jon then scuffled as Nate/Alfred looked on smiling. Reva broke them up and Jonathan bristled at Reva's concern. She was repulsed when Nate/Alfred tried to comfort her. "I want my job back," she cooed. "If you'll have me." Jonathan watched from afar as Nate/Alfred happily accepted. Meanwhile, Sandy broke up with Tammy.

At a very empty Bauer barbecue, Cassie thought about the conversation she had with Edmund concerning her lack of rights to the child. Jeffrey sauntered over and asked why she had been avoiding him. (Seriously, where is everybody?) Cassie explained that Edmund gave her a choice: her baby or Jeffrey. Cassie and Jeffrey discussed what to do about Edmund. Jeffrey realized that Dinah could press charges against Winslow for kidnapping and that would render the custody battle null and void.
Reva ran into a beat-up Jonathan outside of Company. She demanded to know who did this to him. Jonathan had a flashback to Nate hitting him, but he lied that he got into a fight. Jonathan misinterpreted what Reva said and felt that she believed he deserved to be hit. Reva was upset; Jonathan skulked off.
As Dinah adjusted her pregnancy pad, Edmund knocked on the door. She skipped over to it and let him in. He mentioned that he had thought about Dinah's ultimatum — that she would stay with Jonathan until something better came along. Edmund pulled Dinah into a deep kiss. She pushed him away in case his roaming hands led him to discover that she wasn't pregnant. Edmund didn't understand what was wrong with Dinah — wasn't this what she wanted? Like a nervous schoolgirl, Dinah declared this was exactly what she wanted, but all the lights needed to be off. In what only can be described as lightning speed, Cassie transported from the Bauers to the Beacon and started banging on Dinah's door. Edmund disappeared into the night, Dinah opened the door and Cassie waltzed in. Cassie explained that Edmund was holding the Contract with Unborn Baby over her head and the only way to make Edmund not win the custody battle was for Dinah to come forward about Edmund's brutality. Cassie insisted that her baby would not grow up without a mother. Dinah fled to the bathroom, rubbed her pregnancy pad, then came back to the room. Dinah said she desperately needed a nap and Cassie backed off and simply mentioned that Dinah could file a complaint about Edmund with Jeffrey. Cassie reached out to the baby with some baby-talk and a flurry of hands. Dinah made a run for it, saying that made uncomfortable. After Cassie left, Edmund came knocking. He pestered Dinah to tell him what Cassie said. Dinah gave him the lowdown about the deal Cassie wanted to make. Dinah taunted that she was considering pressing charges against Edmund. In fact, the only thing that would change her mind was if they had sex....
Tammy played the game "Is He Or Isn't He Cheating On Me" with a napkin container. (The napkins said he was cheating.) Sandy popped in and Tammy gave him the cold shoulder about his whereabouts. Sandy said he was busy getting something special made for Tammy. Aw, GL has jumped on the promise ring bandwagon. Sandy gave one to his girl, but Tammy felt that he was giving it to her only out of guilt. Who walked in then but Jonathan, who looked like he was the Unabomber clad in sunglasses and all black, and he threw the keys of Lewis Construction on the table. Jonathan announced he was out of the company, then took off his sunglasses to reveal a black eye. Tammy asked if he was mourning his mother. Sandy laughed that Reva finally pushed Jonathan out of the nest, but Tammy countered that this was all about Marissa — she had died. Jonathan rattled on about the conversation he and Tammy had at the barn, how she hated the way she felt around him, you know, dirty. Um, what? Sandy asked. Tammy got all teary and said she didn't give a damn about what Jonathan did. Sandy dragged Tammy outside and she spat that she knew he was cheating on her. They suddenly appeared at the empty Bauer patio where Sandy turned the tables on Tammy. He noted that she wanted to think that he had cheated because she was emotionally cheating on him with Jonathan. Tammy firmly denied it, but said she was responsible for pushing Sandy into the arms of another.
Nate stopped by the Lewises where Reva dropped her belongings yet again. Nate fished around to see if they had a shot at a romance. Reva firmly told him that she loved her husband (that would be Josh). Nate wondered if he could come in for a glass of water. Reva laughed at his poor pick-up line, but escorted him into the house anyway. Reva sighed that she had seen Jonathan and she was concerned that he was getting into trouble. Nate dismissed Jonathan's ills as a simply black eye. Wait, I never said he had a black eye, Reva pointed out. After the commercial break, Nate came up with a lie. Jonathan had gotten into a fight at his bar. Reva bought the lie and thanked Nate for trying to help her boy out. Reva shared that she had told Josh about her and Nate. Nate got all weird and Reva assured him it was okay, but that they shouldn't spend much time together alone. Nate asked her to lunch and Reva said yes because hey, friends do lunch.
Edmund came upon Jeffrey sitting outside of Company. They literally exchanged only a few words. In the next scene, Jeffrey was gone and Jonathan walked past Edmund. Eddie warned Jon to stay away from Dinah. Jonathan said that he couldn't wait to turn his own baby against him and ruin his life. Edmund grabbed Jonathan by the collar as Jonathan yelled at him. Edmund left and Zoey, the girl Jonathan bedded while pretending to be Sandy, appeared. She got all tender with him and "Sandy" complained that Tammy wouldn't take a hint and hit the road.
Cassie met Jeffrey at Company and gave him the scoop about Dinah. Jeffrey promised his lady love that her baby would always be a part of her life. At the Lewis house, Jonathan looked at the pictures on the mantle of Reva's family — none of them of him. In his head, he heard the voices of the family saying what a mistake he was. He took a framed photo of Reva, placed it on the floor and stomped on it. Back at Company, Reva and Nate talked about the lunch they were about to have. Reva sent him in, saying she had to make a phone call. After Nate was out of sight, Reva called out. Olivia emerged from the shadows and said that Nate was Alfred, Jonathan's abusive stepfather.

Buzz and Alexandra embraced out on the patio as the Bauer barbecue got underway. In the kitchen, Danny was over the moon to see Robbie again. He wondered where Michelle was and Rick said that she stayed in Africa while Robbie flew back with one of Ed's nurses. Buzz came in and Marina fretted that she wouldn't know how Danny really felt about Michelle until she saw them together. Robbie told a story about Africa and then asked about getting some candy and cake. After Robbie left, Danny said if Marina wanted to know how he felt about Michelle, she should just ask him. She said okay and Danny admitted that he was really disappointed that Michelle hadn't come — because he could then show Marina that his life with Michelle was over.
Dinah peaked into the windows of a darkened Company. A very cool looking Ross and Blake arrived and told her that Company was shut down for the 4th of July. Ross asked his daughter to come to the Bauer house to celebrate the holiday. Blake brought up the baby and Dinah got all flustered. Blake walked off and Ross noted that Dinah's plan to have Edmund fall for her didn't work. Dinah talked about loss, and although she meant the baby, she covered that she lost her faith in Blake.
On the Bauer patio, Olivia admitted to Bill that she wanted Emma's last name to be changed to Lewis. Alan walked in and reminded everyone that Emma's last name was Spaulding. He lost his temper, but quickly covered and said that the only thing that mattered here was that Emma had a father, even if that meant Bill Lewis. Alan plastered on a fake smile and walked away mumbling about celebrating this Independence Day.
Reva was on her cell phone talking about Marissa's death, while ironically, Nate and Jonathan were inside the Lewis abode talking about the stupid barbecue. Nate taunted Jonathan about how it was time to take Reva for all she was worth. Jonathan asked if Nate killed Marissa, a question that certainly offended Nate. Jonathan muttered under his breath about his mom and Nate was outraged at his behavior. Reva walked into the room, all confused. Jonathan slunk out and said they were talking about baseball. Nate said that he didn't want Jonathan to keep walking all over Reva. Reva insisted Jonathan wasn't pulling the wool over her eyes. His pain was real and it was all because of Alfred. Reva got ready to go to the barbecue but dropped an extra set of keys. Nate pilfered them.
At the Beacon, Jonathan ran into Dinah. After musing about hot actresses, he asked Dinah a serious question: When was enough enough when it comes to revenge? What happens when you keep causing pain? Dinah brushed off his questions and told him that in honor of Fourth of July, they should make some fireworks. Jon wasn't interested and Dinah was mad because she thought she was the one who was using him, not the other way around.
Ross and Blake arrived at the Bauer barbecue. Buzz and Alex complimented Ross on the newspaper editorial. Alan used that opportunity to rail on about justice and how Harley was eluding it. Obviously, he offended everybody and Buzz decked him. Alan flew into the desserts. Guess Alan got his just desserts. Ha, ha. Anyway.... Rick and Buzz tried to clean up the mess, then Zach and Robbie helped Ross put up the flag. Ross gave a speech about working together and how thousands have died for the flag. After his speech, Olivia ranted on to Bill about what happened to the justice for Marissa.
Danny and Marina got close outside of Company. After the commercial break, it was dark and Robbie was asleep on his father's lap. The couple talked about how glad they were to have cleared up the misunderstandings. The fireworks went off as they kissed. Back at the barbecue, Alex reminded Alan that it was he who took Phillip's life. Alan stated that it was the town's fault for ripping out Phillip's soul. Buzz walked in and extended his hand to Alan as a ceasefire. Spaulding walked off and Alex and Buzz embraced. (Alex also did a little cheerleading with the flag.) Alan rammed a butcher's knife in a watermelon and got a few stares. As Ross and Blake gazed at the fireworks, he mused that he wished Dinah was there. (Dinah was there, hanging out in the door frame.) Reva gave her condolences to Olivia about her sister's death. Tell me everything you know about Alfred, Reva demanded. Back at the Lewises, Jonathan ran into Nate, who pushed his son against a window.

Happy Independence Day! You know what that means? Time for another annual Bauer barbecue. But first, off to the Lewis house where Jonathan played loud music and ping-pong in the living room. Now, off to the Bauers where we actually saw Bauers. Rick looked at the sky, lamenting the chance of rain. Mel put her arms around him as Rick reminisced about the loss of his wingman, Phillip. Danny arrived and started talking about Michelle. Marina overheard and wasn't happy about the conversation. Mel stated that Danny needed to tell Michelle exactly how he felt. When Mel came inside, the door hit an eavesdropping Marina on the head. While Mel snapped beans for the party, she cautioned Marina not to fight against history. Outside, Rick shared that he believed that Danny and Michelle were over. Once Danny went inside, he helped Marina with the food preparation. Marina sighed that she wasn't as good as Michelle when it came to pie making.
At Company, Buzz teased Zach about eating all the potato chips. He sent the boy to get some more while he and Alex talked about Harley. Alan lurked outside. When Zach came back, he pouted that he didn't want to go to the barbecue. Alex and Buzz convinced him to go, as Alan knocked on the window. Buzz shouted that they were closed. Alan smiled that he stopped by to wish them a happy holiday. Alex pulled him outside and accused him of following her. Alan admitted to the deed, and Alex told him to back off.
While handcuffed to Mallet, Harley wondered if she should turn herself in if it would spare Gus. Mallet thought that was a horrible idea because they needed to find Phillip's killer. As Harley lamented about dead ends, the camera panned to the hospital where Wallace's sister read a note intended for Gus stating that Alan was the shooter. Back at the hotel room, Harley tried to pull Mallet out the door but he was just dead weight. He sat her on the bed and tried to get her to calm down. He insisted that she needed to rest, but Harley wouldn't lie down. They started bickering and their faces got awfully close. Suddenly, Andrea dropped by and said she found a note among her brother's things. Mallet pretended that he didn't know what the note meant, but once he closed the door (Harley hid behind it the whole time), he handed it to Harley. Alan was the shooter? Harley read aloud. Harley was in shock and said that it didn't make it any sense. Mallet said that maybe Alan got rid of Phillip because his "creation" got out of control. Harley realized that Alan was so focused on getting her not out of revenge, but guilt. They decided they had to get back to Springfield ASAP and warn Gus.
Reva picked up a bottle off the floor while Jonathan kicked more things around. He stated that a dead Marissa had washed up on the beach. Reva offered her sympathy, but Jonathan hissed that he could care less. Marissa had stayed with an abusive guy and was just as bad as Reva. Jonathan mumbled that perhaps Marissa's death wasn't an accident. Reva looked a little freaked, but a knock on the door interrupted the tension. It was Nate, and the tension came back. Reva told Nate that Marissa had died. Jonathan gave Nate a cold stare while Reva asked to meet up with Nate later. Nate said he wanted to stay. Jonathan taunted him and wondered why Nate hadn't asked how his mother died. Jonathan insisted that Marissa was murdered. Reva got all frazzled and asked if he thought Alfred killed Marissa. Nate looked like he was about to blow. Reva tried to call Josh, but Nate and Jonathan told her to back off. Reva ordered Jonathan to attend the Bauer barbecue with her, but then she got a cell phone call from Josh and took it in another room. Things were tense between Jonathan and Nate. Jonathan tried to leave, but Nate refused to let his son go.
Alex, Buzz and Zach arrived at the Bauers with a new pack of chips. Rick sighed to Buzz that there were a lot MIAs this year, like Phillip and Harley. Buzz tried to get Zach to practice his patriotic songs. Back inside, everyone gathered to help prepare the food. Marina asked to have a word with Danny. What would he do if Michelle showed up? she asked. Before she got an answer, Buzz called Marina back inside to look at the pies. Alan arrived and said that Rick invited him. Rick deadpanned that he didn't believe Alan would actually come. Alan announced that he would be taking Phillip's place. Everyone looked pretty uncomfortable. Alan offered the Spaulding cook, but Buzz stated that they had things under control. Frank arrived, looking all forlorn. He announced that the cops had arrested Gus. Alan started badmouthing Gus, but shut up once Frank said that Gus asked to see Buzz, not Alan. Zach came running in so Marina took him outside. Alan demanded to know what was going on with Gus. Frank refused to say anything and went to comfort Marina, who was upset over things with Danny. Marina went into the kitchen and was going to talk to Danny until Robbie ran into the room. Danny scooped him up and asked where his mom was.
