OLTL Recaps Week of May 15, 2006

Friday, May 19, 2006
Viki told reporters outside Llanfair that there was no comment on Duke’s death and asked them to please respect the family’s privacy. Inside, Viki tried to comfort Kevin, who was upset after looking through some of Duke’s keepsakes. Kevin recalled how Duke apologized to him when he died, “thinking I hated him. I didn’t say I loved him back.” Viki urged Kevin to stop blaming himself and said Spencer was wrong to have made him choose between Kelly and Duke. Kevin refused to let himself off the hook.

Tess told Nash she feels bad for the Buchanans and remembered that Duke was nice to her. She said that Jessica would know how to help her family but that she doesn’t know how. Nash said he had an idea. They went and grabbed Brennan and gave her to Kevin to hold. Kevin seemed to enjoy it. He told Tess to treasure her daughter, and then said it was time to go bury Duke. They all left for the church.

Blair visited Kelly in the hospital. She told her cousin how on top of dealing with Todd’s execution that Starr was arrested and Jack is having nightmares. Kelly said that Duke never would’ve died if she hadn’t had sex with him. Blair told Kelly that news about her and Duke has spread across town. Kelly then started sobbing and told Blair she wishes she had died instead of Duke. “It should have been me,” she cried.

Spencer told Blair he feels for her, given all she’s going through. When Blair responded that Spencer is also going through a lot, he snapped at her, “What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Blair was taken aback, but Spencer composed himself quickly and apologized, saying he’s just sleep deprived and a little on edge. Blair said she understands and added that she is, too, with Todd about to be executed. She hinted at doubts about Todd’s guilt, and Spencer quickly shot them down.

Clint and Bo went to the hospital to see Asa (off-screen) but came out of his room saying that they just couldn’t break the news about Duke to him. Bo said he thinks it’s best to keep it from Asa for the time being, until he’s stronger. They went back to Llanfair and told Viki they couldn’t break it to Asa but that they posted a cop at his door so the press wouldn’t get to him.

Evangeline sat with Todd and lamented not having her sight because it will make it harder for her to help exonerate him. They went through the events of the night when Todd met Margaret at the lake, trying to figure out how Spencer fit in. Evangeline remembered how Spencer was the one who signed off on Margaret’s autopsy report as a second opinion. They both wondered if perhaps Spencer paid someone to make sure the first opinion was wrong. Vangie said she was going to go have the bodies exhumed so she could find whatever Spencer tried to cover up. After Blair left, Andrew Carpenter showed up. “I’m here so save your soul, Todd,” he said.

John bashed the door open to Margaret’s place and jumped on David. He told David he knows the whole story and included that he thinks Spencer covered the whole thing up. David said it’s true, but John punched him in the gut. Then he pulled out his pistol and pointed it at David’s head. David told John he had no idea the man he shot was his father and begged John not to shoot him. “If you kill me, you’ll never learn the truth,” David said — just as John pulled the trigger. He then walked around David to a dead Denton, who he shot just before he put a bullet in David. He asked David why Denton was going to shoot him. David said he won’t talk without a lawyer, when John pulled his gun on David again, David said that Spencer sent Denton to kill him because he learned that Todd is innocent.

Natalie showed a photo of David to a Thai man and asked if he’d seen him. The guy got nervous and apologized for not being able to help, and then walked away. Meanwhile, Margaret escaped her apartment out the window into the stormy night. She showed up at the hotel with her hair sopping wet. Natalie recognized her.

What example did Tess give when she said that Brennan is a really good baby?

John saw Denton in the elevator outside his hotel. The doors closed before he could get to him, so John took the stairs down and grabbed him in the hotel lobby. Denton squealed that he was just in Thailand on vacation but John said he’d kill him if he didn’t tell the truth. Natalie crutched it down to the lobby and urged John to control himself. John didn’t want to create a scene so he let Denton go, but not before he lifted his "little black book" which contained Margaret's address in Bangkok.

Spencer overheard Bo telling Blair that Natalie joined John in a trip to Bangkok. Blair and Bo both noticed that the news made Spencer uneasy. Spencer walked away and called David in Thailand to tell him that John is in Bangkok and knows who shot is father. David told Spencer either he cares about his little brother or he’s just looking out for his own hide, trying to keep people from finding out what he did to Todd. Spencer said it was stupid to argue about motives and offered to wire some money to David to help him. David told Margaret to hurry up and pack so they could get back to Llanview. He went out into the hallway to make sure the coast was clear for them to leave, and John was standing there with a loaded gun, waiting for him.

Todd called Evangeline to see how she was doing. He told her to forget about him and just concentrate on getting better, but Evangeline said she isn’t giving up on him. Todd fired Vangie as his lawyer anyway and hung up. Evangeline told Cristian she was going down to the prison to see Todd. Cris offered to accompany her but she insisted she do it herself. When she got there, Todd said he’d pay whatever it takes to fix Evangeline’s sight. Evangeline said she’ll only take his money in exchange for her legal services, and Todd agreed to keep her on as his lawyer.

Layla showed up at Evangeline’s and asked Cristian why he let Evangeline go to the prison by herself. Cris said he had no choice. When Layla said she was going to go pick her sister up, Cristian stopped her and said they all need to let her get along on her own. Layla agreed.

The cops hauled Starr and Ricky to the station for the graffiti. Starr called her mother and asked her to come pick her up. Blair showed up and was less than pleased to meet Starr’s new friend. She explained to Bo that Starr didn’t write “Starr Manning sucks” on the school (why would she?), but Bo answered that Starr is also in trouble for shoplifting spray paint. Ricky lied to Blair that he forced Starr to steal against her will. Starr protested. Blair said it didn’t matter and that Starr was going to pay for the crime either way. Starr quickly turned the tables and made it about Todd, saying Blair should be out trying to exonerate him. Bo took Blair into another room and suggested that maybe she cut Starr some slack given that she’s about to watch her father die. Blair broke down and agreed. She told Starr she is lucky that Bo is being lenient, and insisted that Starr still pay for the spray paint. She also told her that she will never see Ricky again. After everyone left the station, Bo called Clint so they could talk about breaking the news about Duke to Asa.

Michael bumped into Paige in the hallway. She told him that she had just resigned. “Good,” Michael responded. “That means you won’t get drunk and kill any more patients like you did my father.” Paige offered up a lame apology, but it just set Michael off worse. He asked if she were drunk and sniffed her breath. “Your sorry means nothing to me,” he seethed. Bo walked by and Paige told him she was sorry to hear about Duke. Bo barely responded. Paige turned back to Michael and told him that he should be happy that the one good thing she had in her life is now gone. “Karma’s a bitch,” Michael answered as he walked away.

A grumpy John and hobbling Natalie arrived in Bangkok. Natalie asked John to promise her that he wouldn't do anything foolish. John reminded her that she could go home at any time. John headed out for a moment, and then returned. "Did you find David?" Natalie asked, "No, but I know where he went." Natalie tried to convince John to wait until morning. John refused and then saw Denton in the elevator which he tried to stop, but couldn't.

Over dinner, David told Margaret the story behind his shooting of Thomas McBain. David said his secret would be safe if no one ever learned Margaret was alive. Margaret asked why David would trust her with such a secret. David wondered if she was starting to remember her life back in Llanview. Margaret said no, but added that people don't act like monsters if "they aren't pushed into a corner."

Cristian brought Layla and Evangeline some coffee and donuts, though Evangeline insisted on working on Todd's defense. Evangeline asked Layla to get everything off her desk and sent Cris to get some of her law books. Cris tried to help her by reading out loud. Evangeline crashed into a table and Cris ended up icing her knee. He was very tender and leaned in for a kiss, which of course she didn't see.

Blair admitted to Spencer she didn't want Todd to die. Blair headed to Evangeline's. Evangeline was surprised she came by and assured Blair she wasn't going to give up on Todd but added she was doing it for Todd and the kids, not Blair. Blair returned to Spencer's office and, in a cynical tone, reported on her conversation with Evangeline. "Evangeline hasn't given up on anything, especially not Todd." "And that upsets you because?" Spencer asked. Blair seemed annoyed that Evangeline believed in Todd, when she didn't. Spencer asked if Blair "was going down that road again." (That would be the road of believing Todd might be innocent.) Bo showed up asking for release papers for Duke and added that Natalie didn't know about Duke's death. Bo explained that Natalie and John were in Bangkok and wondered why Spencer even cared where John was.

Adriana caught Rex looking at a photo of Jen; it was the one year anniversary of her death. Starr rushed by on her way to school. Rex overheard some kids talking about her and he threatened to call the police. Starr was befriended by one of her "friends" with pink hair. They shoplifted some spray plant and planned to graffiti the wall. Ricky showed up and reminded her that just because she was angry didn't mean she had to put on a rebel act. Starr and Ricky started to spraypaint together. Unfortunately that special moment was interrupted by the police showing up.

Kevin, Clint and Bo entered Duke's bedroom. Kevin didn't know what to do. Bo and Clint offered their support. Kevin selected a suit for the wake and the burial and then left. Clint wondered if he was going to get a drink. "Why would I want to be sober now?" Kevin barked. Bo ran into Viki outside of Duke's room. The two commiserated about losing a child. Viki wouldn't let Kevin leave. Kevin stated that he had murdered his son, "slowly over time. I killed him, I did it." Adriana showed Kevin a box that Duke kept in his room. Inside were clippings and little things that showed Kevin that Duke had truly loved him as a father. Kevin could go through the box. Kevin returned to the closet and carefully chose a suit and tie for Duke to wear. This is the suit he closed his first deal in and the tie Asa had given him for Christmas. Kevin also grabbed his baseball cap.

Viki paid Todd a visit. Todd had rejected the priest's offer to pray with him. "I'm going to die a week from Friday, Viki," he said. Viki got weepy as he began recounting the scenario of him being in a pine box being eaten away. Viki explained she was doing everything to help him. "I bet Victor's laughing his ass off," Todd smirked. Viki begged Todd to stay hopeful and reminded him that there has to be a higher plan somewhere. Todd explained that his only hope was John McBain. Hugh came by and suggested Todd get another attorney, now that Evangeline was blind. Hugh added, "Todd, do a decent thing before you die and set Evangeline free."

Evangeline insisted to Cristian she's okay and remained determined to help Todd. Cris didn't think Evangeline could adjust to her blindness overnight and that perhaps she needed some help. Evangeline assured him she did not need any, as she stumbled over the bed and couldn't find her phone. Cris backed off and headed out, at which point Evangeline admitted she'd miss him not being around to give her a hard time. "I know you are right. I can't ignore this, but Todd takes precedence right now," she said, adding that she is terrified. Cristian made arrangements to check Evangeline out of the hospital, but first had to help her find her shoe. He did, played Prince Charming by putting it on her foot, and walked her out of the hospital.

Blair visited Todd and broke the news that Duke was dead and Evangeline lost her sight. Todd asked about Viki and her heart and then accused Blair of lying about Evangeline's blindness and that Spencer had put her up to it. Blair, however, reiterated that just because she came by to see Todd didn't mean she still loved him.

A frazzled Spencer paced around in his office. "It just doesn't feel right," he muttered about the current situation of his life. Dorian barged in with thanks for saving Kelly's life. Spencer explained that he's a doctor, "that's what we do." Dorian insinuated that Spencer perhaps wanted Duke dead. Spencer accused Dorian of almost accusing him of murder. "I wouldn't be the first person," Dorian replied. Dorian recounted all the horrid things Spencer had done since his arrival in Llanview. "You've taken a tragic act of God and turned it into your victory. You may have a heart, but you most definitely do not have a soul," declared Dorian as she stormed out of his office. Dorian hit a nerve because Spencer began throwing things around and wiped his desk clean in that way people do when they are really angry. Spencer took a shower and pounded the wall, saying, "It wasn't supposed to happen like that." Blair entered his office, saw that he was in the shower, took off her clothes, entered the shower and began comforting him by passionately kissing him.

A crazed Kevin entered Kelly's room with the sobering words "My son is dead." "I'm sorry," Kelly wept. Devastated, he claimed that he had sent his son to his death. Kevin went over the agony of how he had to make the choice. "God forgive me, I choose you and he's dead because of it," he cried as tears flowed down Kelly's face. "I'm so angry, I just want to hurt someone," he continued. "I didn't tell him I loved him." Kelly begged Kevin to hate her, not Duke. Kevin showed Kelly a photo of little boy Duke, which sent both of them over the edge.

Claudia visited Antonio — her only friend — in the hospital. Antonio saw right through her. "You don't care whether I live or die. You are here for one reason, — Nash." Claudia denied that though Antonio remained curious on why she decided to relocate to Llanview. "My life doesn't revolve around Nash. My priority is staying clean," she stated. "And yet you are here, starting over in Llanview, where it could be anywhere else," Antonio replied. Claudia asked for a job as a singer at Capricorn. Antonio suggested she go to New York or L.A. "Llanview is where I'm meant to be," she declared. "I'll think about it," Antonio assured her.

A hospital representative dropped in on Tess and Nash with forms to fill out and told them they needed to name the baby. Tess explained that by naming her Brennan the baby would have Nash's name one way or the other. Nash wondered what if she's his child. Would she be called Brennan Brennan? "We'll just change her name," Tess explained. Nash got a nasty call from Reston to keep an eye on his daughter. "Are you threatening me?" Nash asked, and then threatened to kill Reston. "What do you want?" Nash asked. "Just keep an eye on that daughter of yours," Reston repeated. Meanwhile, Tess and Jessica argued, via the mirror. Tess got the upper hand when she started talking about the abuse. Jessica vanished. Tess and Nash got into bed with baby Brennan between them.

Evangeline hoped for good news about her eyesight. She begged Layla not to tell their mother about her condition. Cristian tried to get information from the harried doctor. The doctor announced that the damage to her corneas was quite serious, and doubted surgery would help. "The prognosis is not encouraging," he said. Layla wept. The doctor didn't think Evangeline was a candidate for a cornea transplant. "The blindness is irreversible," he announced, but he invited them to get a second opinion. Cristian promised Evangeline that she would see again. Cris reminded her that she had promised him his freedom and kept her word. Evangeline admitted she was scared. Layla and Blair ran into each other and shared each other's bad news. Blair wondered if Todd knew about Evangeline's blindness and left.

John was not happy to see Natalie on his flight to Thailand. She refused to leave. "You are unbelievable. Go home Natalie," he said. Natalie again refused. Natalie announced it was time for plan B. She reminded John that she was going to save him from himself. An extremely annoyed John insisted he didn't need saving and reminded her that he wouldn't be her nurse. Natalie claimed she'd find David first. John and Natalie began talking about David and Paige and how awful both of them were. John speculated that Spencer Truman must have something to do with this. John added that Spencer was next on "his list." Natalie urged John to think before doing something he'll regret.

Denton aimed a pistol toward Margaret and David's backs. David couldn't get Margaret to remember anything about her past. Denton burst in on them, waving a gun, and admitted that he worked for Spencer, not Todd. David doubted that Spencer had sent Denton to kill him and managed to wrestle the gun away from him. The two men fought. David got the gun, but Denton was still alive, though unconscious. David grabbed Denton's phone and answered Spencer's call by telling his brother that Denton had failed in his attempt to kill him. Spencer assured his kid brother that he did not want him dead. David talked about bringing in Margaret at the last minute to save Todd's life. David offered a deal. He'd keep Spencer's secret (Margaret being alive), if Spencer kept his (having shot Thomas McBain). David insinuated that Margaret was beginning to remember. Spencer accepted the deal. David turned around and saw that Denton had disappeared. David insisted that he and Margaret discuss the article they were looking at online. David assured her that no one was going to lose.

Dorian and Blair were relieved that Kelly survived the surgery but Dorian was irked that she was now beholden to Spencer. Dorian kissed her badly beat up niece. Dorian reminded Kelly that she was in the rectory when they found her and Kelly flashed back to her big fight with Kevin. Kelly began to get up to find Duke, but Dorian offered to find out what was up. Rex and Adriana showed up at the hospital to check in with Kelly. Blair told Kelly that not only was she was naked in Duke's arms, but that Kevin had found her. Kelly tried to explain, "Duke was there, he was so nice to me."

Dorian told Rex that Adriana would be safe with her and that he could go home. Rex replied: "Oh really? Well where were you last night when she was almost murdered?" The two began arguing when Adriana returned with news that Duke hadn't made it. Dorian embraced her daughter and went in to break the news to Kelly. Kelly asked to be left alone and stared into space.

Doctors couldn't resuscitate Duke, much to the horror of his grief-stricken father Kevin and his grandparents Clint and Viki. Spencer did his best, saying, "I will not let you die on me." However, the nurse reminded Spencer that "he's been dead for 20 minutes." Spencer apologized to Kevin. "I'm sorry. Duke is dead." Kevin fell apart. "You have to try," he pleaded. Spencer offered his condolences and said he was needed back in the OR. Kevin screamed, "I killed him, Mom; I killed my own son." Clint and Viki did their best to reassure him. "I don't know anyone who could have made a decision like this," Viki said through her tears. Clint and Viki left Kevin with Duke and exited to the waiting room where they had to break the news to Adriana. Kevin took Duke's lifeless body in his arms and wept. Kevin placed a call to LeeAnn with the horrific news of their son's death. LeeAnn hung up on her ex-husband.

The closing montage featured Kevin entering Kelly's hospital room and Dorian seeing Viki and Clint in each other's arms, trying to comfort one another.
