Y&R Recaps Week of August 14, 2006
Friday, August 18, 2006
Phyllis and Nicholas, happy from having spent the night together, discussed their plans for the day. He intended to check on Sharon; she wanted to visit John. Before heading out, they kissed.
Sharon had a flashback of being kidnapped. Drucilla saw that she was upset and asked her pal what was going on. Sharon said that she's concerned about Noah, but Dru didn't buy that. Sharon then said that she's concerned about Dru and all the drama Dru's going through with Neil. Soon, Nick stopped by and told her that he's not letting her go through everything alone. Sharon told him that she has Dru to help her and that it's too hard for her to deal with Nick living there.
Dru went to the office and apologized to Neil for jumping to conclusions about him and Carmen. Neil said he was sorry for ruining her romantic surprise for him. Nick came by and Dru left; Neil didn't want to fill in Nick on what was going on with him and his wife.... Nick then ran into Victoria, who had harsh words regarding Sharon.... Meanwhile, Carmen berated Dru for constantly attacking her.... Dru went to see Neil again and told him that she's going to stay with Sharon for a few days. Neil agreed that this was a good idea. Later, Lily arrived with good news: she passed physics and finally graduated from high school.
Nikki called Hope and questioned her about Victor. Hope reported that he's okay, but went to a monastery. Nikki was frustrated that she couldn't give her more information. Hope was confident that Victor would get in touch with Nikki soon.
At the hospital, Gloria sat with John as Jack and Ashley sadly watched. Gloria told him how special he'd made her feel. "You loved me enough to never give up on me," she cried, "no matter what I did ... I vowed to never give up on you, but I'll let you go. If that's what's best for you." Lauren and Michael arrived to support her. Glo was moved to tears when Lauren's baby kicked.... In John's room, Jack thanked his father for keeping them such a close family. "You held us together with the sheer force of your love," he said. "The damndest thing is, I don't know who I'm going to turn to now for advice." "Jackie, you just have to look inside your heart and that's where you'll find Dad," Ashley sobbed. Traci then arrived and went to see her dad. "There are too many things I have to do with you and too many things I have to say to you," she cried. She then became hysterical and hugged her siblings. "What are we going to do without him?".... Jill and Kay cried over losing John. "He was my closest, dearest friend," said Kay. "He was mine, too," agreed Jill.... Phyllis came to the hospital to pay her respects. "Your dad's a good man," she whispered. "I love him, too ... you know you're doing the right thing." She then went to say good-bye to John. "You were a great father-in-law and a great friend. Thank you for being a part of my life," she said. Later, the doctor came out and told them that it's time to officially say farewell. Jack, Ashley, Jill, Kay, Billy, Traci, Lauren, Michael, J.T., Colleen, Brad and Kevin joined hands and said a prayer, while Gloria stayed by John's side. Then each person said good-bye to him.... Victoria came to the hospital and picked right then, in the waiting room, to quiz Brad about Sharon and his feelings for her (Victoria). Brad insisted that he loves her... In John's room, Gloria took John's hand as his life support was turned off. As his shellshocked loved ones watched him die, the following montage took place: Phyllis and Nick went for her ultrasound.... Brad went to see Sharon.... Nikki and Victoria stood sadly before Victor's portrait at Newman.... A weeping Gloria rested her head on John's body, while a stunned Jack stared, unable to speak as his father flatlined.... Phyllis and Nick stared in awe at their baby on the monitor.

Drucilla waited for Neil at the GCAC, hoping for a romantic night with her husband ... and was furious when Neil arrived with Carmen. She didn't believe him when he insisted that they were working on an assignment. Carmen tried to apologize, but Dru wouldn't let her speak. She then stormed out of the restaurant. Carmen felt guilty, but Neil told her not to. She wondered if he's ready to give up on his marriage, but he wasn't sure.
At the Newman home, Nicholas kept a frazzled Sharon company. She encouraged him to leave so he could be with Phyllis. He insisted on staying put. Sharon admitted how scared she'd been while she was being held captive ... and freaked out at a noise. Nick explained that it was just security and that she's safe. Sharon wasn't so sure. Nick stated that even though they're not together, she's still an important part of his life. Later, an unhappy Dru went to see Sharon for some advice. Nick left the ladies alone and Dru filled her in on her Carmen drama.
In the hospital, Jack told an unconscious John that he will do what it takes to see that John gets his wish to be "free." In the waiting room, Gloria accused Jack of wanting to kill her husband. Michael tried to explain that taking someone off life support isn't the same thing. Glo argued that she's prepared to care for John. Kevin urged his mother to let John's children have a moment alone with him. "Jack has to be all right," she sighed. "He has to be."... Ashley joined Jack by John's side and they reminisced about a time they went camping. Ashley whimpered that she's not ready for John to go. "Neither am I," he whispered, "but it's the right thing to do.".... Kevin admitted to Ash that John's been the closest thing to a father he's ever had. Ashley confided in him that she's reluctant to take her father off the machines... Jack once again tried to convince Gloria to let John go. "Do you love my father?" asked Jack. "Then why do you want him hooked up to machines? ... Are you suggesting we keep him hooked up to ventilators forever?" Gloria still refused to back down. "We have to be realistic," urged Jack. "Doctors are wrong all the time," she debated. "What about what Dad wants?" replied Jack. "What happens to him is my decision," she said. Jack threatened to take her to court. "He is NOT alive. His brain is not functioning ... his soul and spirit are gone," he stated.
Colleen and J.T. joined Billy at Crimson Lights. Coll was happy to see Billy, but wished it were under better circumstances. A guilty Bill regretted being away from home and not having the chance to catch up with his dad. Colleen hoped for a miracle, but Billy wasn't so optimistic. J.T. suggested Bill go to the hospital to talk with John, anyway. Coll asked Billy what he thinks of Gloria; he said that Glo isn't what he expected. "Trust me, she's the worst thing that ever happened to my granddad," seethed Colleen. "And now his life is in her hands," Billy sighed. Next, the duo complained about Kevin. Jana interrupted them to sing Kevin's praises. Kevin then arrived; he and Colleen actually shared a quiet moment as she questioned him about John's condition. Billy was aghast that Kevin was in John's room. Kev said that instead of arguing they should think of John and try to be good people like he'd want... Phyllis told Jack how sorry she is about John. She agreed with him that it was time to let John go.... Paul stopped by the hospital to comfort Ashley.... Michael advised Gloria to not get into a court battle with Jack. Glo accused him of being on Jack's "side." "It's not about sides, it's about preserving John's family," Michael explained. "I am his family," she said.... Jack returned to the hospital with Phyllis. She and Michael discussed the situation with Gloria... Glo went to John's room and decorated it with photos. She then started combing his hair for him. "I know you can hear me, John," she said quietly, tears rolling down her cheeks. "My darling, sweet husband."... Ashley told Jack that she can't let their father go, either. Gloria then emerged from the hospital room. "It's time," she said. "It's time to let your father go."

Neil finally came home and Drucilla reamed him out for not calling. "Were you with Carmen?" she asked. He replied that he spent the night at the GCAC. Lily then came home and backed up Neil's alibi; a contrite Dru apologized, then left for work. At the office, she again said she's sorry; he promised to call "the next time." Dru was upset that there would even be a "next time." Meanwhile, Lily and Devon worried about the pair.... Neil and Carmen planned to enjoy a "working dinner." Dru spied them together and was not happy.
After the B-team managed to rescue Sharon, everyone went home and Brad and Paul made an agreement that Brad is still, well, Brad and not George. Victoria was relieved their brush with Nazis is all over. NotGeorge then reunited with his daughters and mom. Rebecca was relieved to hear that they're now relatively safe. Brad refused to divulge how the thugs were killed.... Colleen was thrilled to see J.T. was safe, but J.T. wasn't so sure that the Kaplan/Carltons are out of the woods. Rebecca planned to go home. Ashley then called Colleen and told her about John.... Brad admitted to his mother that he killed the bad guys. They agreed that they still can't live their lives openly. Brad wondered if they wanted something inside the reliquary. Rebecca apologized to him for making him spend so many years hiding; he told her he wouldn't be the man he is without her. Literally, as it's kind of her actions that made him become Brad Carlton.
At the Newman home, Nicholas ushered a dazed Sharon into their living room. Nick wanted to take care of her, but she told him it wasn't necessary. Sharon caught up with Noah on the phone, then shared a hug with an emotional Nikki. Later, Brad called Sharon to see how she was doing. She admitted to being "a little shaky." Victoria caught her husband in the tail end of the conversation and told him that Sharon doesn't need him. They agreed that they want to stay married. After awhile, Sharon took a nap and had a nightmare. She awakened with a start and requested that Nick and Nikki leave her alone. Nikki obliged, but Nick refused. Brad then stopped by, telling them that he still needs to keep his true identity under wraps. Nick wasn't thrilled to have a Newman exec who has a false identity, but agreed to keep quiet. In private, Sharon admitted to Brad that she wishes she could be with him.
Over lunch at the GCAC, Phyllis filled in Michael on how serious her relationship with Nick is getting. He informed her about John's stroke. Phyllis was devastated to hear the news; when Nick arrived, she engulfed him in a hug. Nick said that he wants to spend time with Sharon for the next few days. Phyllis was understanding.
At the hospital, the group tried to register the bad news that John will remain in a vegetative state. The doctor suggested they take him off life support, but Gloria wouldn't hear of it, believing John will recover. Jack wanted to honor his father's wishes. The doctor revealed that Glo is John's patient advocate, meaning the decision is ultimately up to her.... Billy sadly noted that his dad's body is still there, but that John isn't.... Jack and Gloria continued to argue over John. Jack was actually gentle with Gloria as he tried to bring her over to his side.... Colleen and J.T. went to the hospital. Colleen was devastated when she heard that John's never going to awaken.... Ashley had Abby talk to her grandfather. Abby, not understanding how serious the situation is, happily began to tell John about being in Hawaii. Her face fell, though, when she saw his lack of response. Ash sent her out to say hello to Billy. Colleen then visited John and couldn't keep it together.... Ashley thanked her father for always being there for her, breaking into sobs as she did so.... A second doctor examined John and came to the same conclusion as the first: John is in a permanent vegetative state. Gloria still didn't believe it, Jack begged her to let John go. He was shocked when Ashley sided with Gloria.

The B-Team (Brad, J.T. and Paul) went to the construction site where they believed Sharon to be. They desperately tried to rescue her before a bomb exploded. J.T. helped him disengage it just in time. Meanwhile, Nicholas went into the church and met with the kidnapper. The thug didn't believe he had the reliquary. Nick refused to give it to him unless he released Sharon. The kidnapper threatened to kill them both unless he got what he wanted (the reliquary) and was very offended when Nick called said reliquary a knick-knack. Soon, Paul joined them and the thug held him at gunpoint. Brad then surprised him by arriving from behind with his own weapon. J.T. handed the kidnapper the reliquary. The thug wished "George" good-bye in German, though his accent sounded more British than anything. Brad/George asked who the guy is; the kidnapper explained that he's the son of the Nazi whom Brad's mom Rebecca got thrown in jail. "You killed my father," began Brad, sadly not finishing the Princess Bride monologue which begins much the same way. He and the thug fought in a scuffle where Brad pummeled his fists in the air and the kidnapper kept thrusting at him. Somehow, Brad managed to get the upper hand and strangled the guy. The gang managed to rescue Sharon, who had explosives strapped to her. In the melee, Brad killed the two thugs.
Drucilla called Neil, begging him to come home. She thought about some of the intimate moments she's shared with her husband and then how he reacted to learning that Malcolm is Lily's biological father.... Lily asked Neil if he's ever going to forgive Dru, but he said he wasn't sure.... Devon believed that things would blow over between Dru and Neil, but Dru wasn't so sure.
At the GCAC, Gina gave Nikki a warm welcome. Gina went on about how Victor probably misses Nikki. Nikki tried to keep on a happy face as her friend asked about the rest of the family. Gina then shared that John's in the hospital.
At the hospital, Gloria told Jack and Ashley that she's confident John will survive. Jack hoped for a miracle. Meanwhile, Billy (!) came home and paid his dad a visit. He was unsure of what to do, but Jill urged him to simply talk to his father. "I kept meaning to come back sooner," a guilty Billy began. "Now here's the part where you're supposed to wake up and tell me I haven't been the greatest son in the world ... just make me feel like crap like a good dad." After, Gloria introduced herself to Billy. Jack went to see John and told his dad that he needs him. He reminded him how John had comforted Jack on the night Dina had left the family. "This family is the most important thing in the world to me and my love for you is unwavering and undying," he stated.... Ashley refused to believe that it's John's "time.".... Gloria went to the chapel and prayed for John's life. Kay joined her and Gloria broke down.... Nikki came to the hospital and promised to be there if Jack needs her. She also said a prayer for her friend, as well as one for Sharon.... Later, the doctor called the family together for a meeting and reported that John can no longer breathe on his own. He sadly informed them that the condition is irreversible. Glo begged for a second opinion, as everyone helplessly looked on.

Paul and J.T. made a few calls, hoping to track down where Sharon is being held captive, and Paul gave a number where they could be faxed. Meanwhile, Victoria used her art skills to forge the coveted reliquary. Later, the James Bond-esque kidnapper called, demanding that "Sharon's husband" be the one to bring him the artifact. Paul, Brad and J.T. went to the site where they believed her to be.... Victoria called Brad and revealed that the "7" they'd seen written wasn't a clue to finding Sharon as they'd previous thought.... Nick slowly entered a church. "Hello," he called out tentatively. "Hello, Newman," said the kidnapper. Who knew the thug's a SEINFELD fan?
At home, a sad Drucilla moped around before dejectedly flopping down on the couch. Later, Dru, unaware that Sharon was kidnapped, called Sharon, wanting some much-needed girl time with her friend.
At the hospital, the paramedics desperately tried to revive John, who'd collapsed. Jack and Ashley embraced as they awaited their father's fate, while a nervous Gloria fretted about. Soon, the doctor emerged with grave news: John suffered a massive stroke, was unconscious and there was uncontrolled bleeding in his brain. Yikes! Poor John. The group visited John and tried to get him to awaken, to no avail. Soon, Jill arrived at the hospital. "How bad is he?" she tearfully asked Kay. They discussed how unfair it is that John fell ill right when he was about to be released from jail. Kay reminisced about her friendship with the elder Abbott. "I wouldn't have traded this life ... and I couldn't have asked for a better human being to have shared it with," she sobbed. Sniff. Jill tried to keep it together, but broke down. Gloria believed that John's enough of a fighter that he will recover. Next, Jill stopped in to see John. In the waiting room, Kay told Gloria that John would be proud of her. Glo cried and replied that despite what Jack thinks, she didn't marry John for his money and she would've wed him even if he'd been poor. "I don't have any women friends," Gloria finished. "You have one now," said Kay, pulling her into a hug. Awww. Kevin arrived and shared a nice moment with Ashley as he shared how fond of John he is.... In the hospital room, Jill tenderly took John's hand and recalled memories of them raising Billy. She also noted how Gloria reminds her of herself. "Everything I am is because of you," Jill said. "You're the best person I've ever known. I was so proud to be your wife and I'm proud to be your friend." The doctor later came out and reported that the prognosis isn't encouraging — and that John had asked to not be resuscitated. "NO!" shouted Gloria, refusing to believe that John would want that.
